Is it possible to flash 1.5 and 1.6 roms still? I have AOSPmod .8 and I was wondering to flash 1.5 or 1.6. I'm not sure if the official 2.1 update did something to the phone that you can't run 1.5 or 1.6 anymore... I just want to make sure before I try anything. Thanks.
You can go backwards.

Do you think that the G1 will get Android 2.1? Or are we going to have to wait until Drizzy comes out with his. Hopefully Cyanogen comes out with one, his roms are fast.

yes, The g1 might get the OTA Android 2.1 update and lets hope we can get the official Sense UI on the g1 like the htc magic
Let's hope so.
It would be great. But I'm hoping Cyanogen comes out with a rom based on the Android 2.1 like Drizzy is.
is there any way to get flash running on the mt3g or g1 without using a sense based rom?
and also are there any full 2.1 sense roms where everything works in tearms of camera and video?
still have stock 1.5 on my sprint htc hero cdma phone, can i go directly to this 2.2 update ( stable version)?

are you looking for an official update? or Dev update?
flash over any modded rom from froyo 2.2? i use CM6, root your hero (in the development forum), then flash a recovery image using ROM Manager(in the Market.) and then flash CM6. If you need further instruction, or need more details or have questions, dont hesitate to PM me.
So I have a htc cdma hero with the official sprint update and latest version of 2.1 I just rooted my hero last week and I was wondering if I could run a 1.5 custom Rom? Or will that not work?
Yep, you sure can.
The real question is why?

Yes, just make sure to Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik before flashing 1.5.
thanks for the help guys.. well I wanted to flash a 1.5 rom because I thought I could get the clock widget that flipped but i guess it never flipped on cdma only gsm is that correct?
1.5 is certainly NOT worth going to, especially just for a clock widget.

Don't flash a new rom to get it.
Just extract the rom's .zip and go into /system/app in that folder.
Copy the .apk and adb push the file to /system/app on you phone then restart.
Should work if you extract it from a gsm rom.
My Evo made me Swype this from the XDA App.
I have seen other forums where people have tried using the apk files from the gsm hero and it ended up bricking their phone. Is there any truth to that?
Gsm radio will brick it for sure. Just an .apk should be fine

my G1 was unusable when it was rooted running gingerbread, eclair, sense, even froyo... constant lag and freezes even though I had apps2sd. I never tried a rooted donut rom yet, are they more stable?
anyway for now I unrooted but I'm only on 1.5 using the guide in the forums, but he says there's a problem with the 1.6 update ota file he supplied, so I tried googling it and every link I click on it either says 404 error or download unsucessful... anybody know what is going on? does anyone have a working link? I've tried like 10 different ones

Did you try these?

As far as I know, you have to apply cupcake, then go apply the other OTAs to get to a donut rom. I haven't ever seen a stock donut full rom.
Have you tried a rooted stock donut rom?

I have a rooted donut 1.6 rom on my phone right now. I don't really use it, so I can't say how stable it is. My poor G1 is just used for flashing and testing. I did have to pull the battery because I pushed SetCPU down to 19 Mhz. Otherwise, I would think it is decently stable. You might also look into CM4 or CM5.
