So I have a htc cdma hero with the official sprint update and latest version of 2.1 I just rooted my hero last week and I was wondering if I could run a 1.5 custom Rom? Or will that not work?
Yep, you sure can.
The real question is why?

Yes, just make sure to Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik before flashing 1.5.
thanks for the help guys.. well I wanted to flash a 1.5 rom because I thought I could get the clock widget that flipped but i guess it never flipped on cdma only gsm is that correct?
1.5 is certainly NOT worth going to, especially just for a clock widget.

Don't flash a new rom to get it.
Just extract the rom's .zip and go into /system/app in that folder.
Copy the .apk and adb push the file to /system/app on you phone then restart.
Should work if you extract it from a gsm rom.
My Evo made me Swype this from the XDA App.
I have seen other forums where people have tried using the apk files from the gsm hero and it ended up bricking their phone. Is there any truth to that?
Gsm radio will brick it for sure. Just an .apk should be fine

Is it worth it to wait for 2.1 for my CDMA Hero or should I just flash a custom rom?
If so what is the best ROM for the Hero thats out right now?
And if I do flash a custom rom can I then upgrade to 2.1 when it is officially released?

There is no reason to wait for Sprint to release 2.1. Go ahead and flash a 2.1 custom ROM, as for what ROM... I can't suggest a good one they are all pretty great. I suppose to start you off I would suggest flashing the latest Damageless or a Fresh ROM, a lot of ROMs are based of their work.
Once Sprint releases the official 2.1 don't upgrade. There is a possibility you may lose your root access, besides that someone will have a optimized version readily available soon after release.
Alright, will do.
For some reason I was forgetting they would optimize sprint's 2.1 for Hero after it came out.
Now to pick...
1 more question... I'm pretty sure the answer to this is yes and I know its a stupid question but...
I'll still be able to use my phone as a phone right? Wiping the data before I load a rom won't wipe the phone number linked to my account right?

Of course!
As long as you sign into Google at the startup, all your contacts should sync. You will still have your own number. Your own number is linked to your Sprint account anyway.

Once I have the new ROM to apply an espresso bar mod I just flash that with the normal filename then?
fresh 2.0d and regawMOD (and others) have espresso built in.

Was able to do the USB tethering trick on 1.5 unrooted, you know, changing to 1X only, connecting, then changing it to EVDO... anyhow, the new 2.1 ROMS don't have that option anymore.. least I can't find it... I have a 1.70 PRL, and a ROOTED Hero... but thus far I can't find a USB tethering solution. This is for my Ubuntu desktop so PDANET won't work..

I hope you mean a Hero ROM that's based on the Eris leaks. Eris = GSM. GSM ROM = Bricked Hero.
I feel like an idiot >.<

Eris is not GSM, Eris is Verizon's Hero bastardization.
But yes, flash an Eris based Hero rom (Damage 1.0)
This gives you the correct PRI to Tether.

GSM ROM Will not brick you hero
BUT
A GSM Radio will.
Sweet! Thank you! Could I request a link to the rom? I'm on my phone atm at work, this is my only internet right now. Thanks again!
I can't find a rom called damage. You mean damage control?
Yeah, but 2.08 or 1.0 won't do it, needs to be 2.03 (I think that's the one)

Also, try DarchDroid (Which is the best rom i've used -- it's fast, and doesn't have Sense UI)
Hey guys I'm a noob and sprint decided to give me a hero do to my defective noment I took it over the intercept because of the support here on XDA and I've been lookin around and I like but my question remains what's the best rom for the cdma hero that will still allow the flasplayer to work any ideas or ways to keep makin it work. THANX
Unfortunately, full flash support can not be achieved. There's a light version out there, but I don't know how well it works.

I believe Nfinite's Roms have Flash Lite, and then using a browser like Skyfire gives additional flash support as it deals with it server side.
Use Nfinites rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849024 there and then do a search for Zen's Any Kernal with no Perflock. It makes it an extremely snappy Sense Rom. Only Sense has the Flash working, none of the AOSP roms do I believe.
Only downside is Nfinite is on Hiatus due to some personal stuff but he has popped back in and said he isn't gone, just dealing with it and plans to update again soon.
my replyo
ok thanx so fo example even I port the flash light apk (htc flash player) can I at least use that on the aosp rom or the cm 6 or does they need the sense to even aollow it to work ? I just want to be ready to root asap when the hero arrives tomorow
You cannot use those functions in an AOSP rom, has to be with sense.
Ok one last thing before I do this once I get my recovery going and I'm rooted of course I do a data wipe then apply a zip (rom) file correct and if I want to try other roms repeat the proscces. Right just want to make sure. That's how I would do it on my moment

Yes you would go to recovery, do a factory reset, wipe Dalvik, Cache, etc and then you can flash the new zip for the rom you wish to try.
Most roms will have a sort of guide or instructions, some have things specific to the rom being flashed, so make sure and read the full post, and maybe browse the thread for tidbits that users have had to say about the rom.

Looking for a sense ROM for Mytouch 3g 32b (or G1) Radio 27.08? I see plenty of HTC sense ROMs bot none for radio 27.08. I have tried SenseL2.7 but can't get past the language selection screen. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116154
Would be great if it was Froyo or Gingerbread sense for Radio 27.08.
Sense lx is 2708+ (and why didn't you post on th thread that it didn't work? We would have helped)
The gb sense rom is 2708+
Namit1994's sense rom is 2708+ I think
I Just re-flashed it to try again. I didn't use the MTD I using the recovery from Rom manager (Still can't get passed the language screen). What is the link for those other two ROMs you mentioned?

I am monitoring the SenseLX I am currently using SenseLX 2.7 waiting for wifi to work on 3.0 before installing it. I do not have a data plan so I use wifi for everything.

Me too. lol
I'm looking for a more stable ROM for my G1. I've been running it on the Chromatic Dream for too long, I want something that can make it a daily user again without lagging/much lagging and without draining the battery. Thx in Advance.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
well those are some pretty high demands coming from a junior member... j/k
lol im not going to say 1 rom is better than another because it depends what you like in a rom, but to be straight forward with it... Froyo is the way to go, there are many different kinds... stock froyo, themed froyo, even sense froyo!! but i believe the most stable/un-complained about rom would be Froyo by laszlo... hands down this rom is just... almost perfect, so try that and other froyo roms till your happy
happy flashing and good luck!!
Thx for the intel. I downloaded the ROM by Laszlo this morn; I'm hoping to have it flashed on my G1 this weekend. And again Thx.

I also wanted to know since my G1 is already rooted do I have to flash another custom recovery and re-do adb. Couldn't I just load the new custom ROM on the root of my SDCard and flash it?

Where can I find laszlo's latest rom? The only one I could find was discontinued in march.

yeah the sad truth about laszlo's rom is it was discontinued, but is still the most stable... lol and yes you can just put a rom on root of sd and flash to your device... but be sure to wipe data

As long as you do a full wipe via recovery first, that's the preferred way of installing new ROMs...
This phone must have over 100 roms in total, you should be able to pick one from that batch...
