Hey, I'm just curious about something. in my zune i have 2.3gb listed as reserved and content from other computers(if any) im presuming most of this is just applications and games? ive decreased it to 0% for reserved storage in settings. just trying to make sure i can use all the space thats all. Would prefer it to tell me how much apps in particular are using etc.
everyone else got similar sizes?
I don't think reserved space is apps and games. I always set my reserved space to 0% on my Zune, PSP, and other devices. When I got my Zune 120GB it's stock reserved space was 2%.
The "Reserved Space" is specifically for Zune related information. Your friends' Zune social cards, marketplace downloads, track/album information, things like that. I always set it 0% and don't get any issues, so I assume that some space is always reserved regardless if you set it to 0%.
its also used for receiving music from other handsets/zunes
Hey guys. On my Omnia 7, whatever I set the reserved % to, it always says it has 4gb of reserved space and won't let me transfer music or videos into that space - essentially limiting me to just over 2gb.
Anyone know how to get around this?

I don't know if this is normal or not so I'm posting my findings for you. Here's the situation: whenever I am playing something with windows media player the memory usage jumps from 32MB to 90MB!!! I have not seen this on my previous wizard and I am thinking it is some kind of memory leak. It's really problematic as I can't open any more apps simultaneously because I get the out of memory error. Sure could use a fix if there is one. Thanks.
Is there any way to get Doubletwist to recognize and store my files on the removable SD instead of the phone's internal "media area"? I'm filling up the latter quite fast, while the external card is nearly empty. I can't find any setting in DT that lets you choose where to store music on the device.
I know that Doubletwist's publisher has been promising a "fix" for about five months now, but I figured someone here might have come up with something on their own.
Any help appreciated. TIA
Alternatively, any recommendations on a player with desktop iTunes sync functionality and flexibility in storage locations on the Bionic?
This is a known issue with the Bionic and DoubleTwist. I submitted a ticket with Doubletwist support, and they confirm that the software is not working properly with ExternalSD on the Bionic.
I uploaded my DeviceID information for them, and the support agent promised that it would be fixed in the next release. They offered no workaround. Sorry
I've been using Songbird with MediaSync to get around the issue, but it does no transcoding, which is less-than-ideal.
It's because Moto made /sdcard the internal memory and /sdcard-ext the external as opposed to the normal /emmc and /sdcard for internal and external respectively.
This problem is shared with the x2 and d3 and there is a fix, I"m just not sure if it was adapted to the Bionic yet.

I use Easy Phone Tunes Plus on my Bionic and it works fine for me. Easy Phone Tune has a free version that you can try to see if you like it. It's also available for PC or Mac.
Thanks for the info!
@kraamerica, does Easy Phone Tunes Plus store files on sd-ext? That's my bigger issue, really: Even with syncing only a portion of my music, I run out of space quickly. Kind of a bite to have the SD card there and not be able to use it.

I will look this afternoon when I get back to my PC. That's where you control the syncing and it's pretty good and letting you choose what you want to sync (including podcasts) I just can't remember if there is a "where".
When you 1st establish a connection through the setting's of the Easy Phone Application, it will show your "2" phones (one is your internal, the other external). You would chose the 2nd "phone" unless you have the SD card swap in place.
Then you go through the rest of what you what synced in the next section of the setup and you are good to go. Or so I would hope.
To those of you who have the 16 gb version and are dual booting webos and android, is the 16 gb of built in memory enough for you? Are you running out of space with apps, pics, music, etc? Might buy one so kinda curious. Then again I do have dropbox and the 50 gb box.net app so I'll probably be good anyways. Thanks in advance.

Should be plenty for dual booting android. Not sure what kind of resources Linux uses
Google Music will be your best friend if you have a large chunk of music. I never was a fan of any of the cloud services only because of the upload limit size, however I did just find this workaround for box.net

Still not sure how much I'll use it since I don't do anything with books/novels and my music is taken care of through google music, and I'm sure that work around mentioned above won't work unless it's multiple files, not one large one, such as a movie.

They will get rid of that work-around at some point.... just saying.
I have the 16gb Touchpad and most of the memory is filled of files from Gameloft and EA games and my titanium backup (don't like dropbox).
The rest is all on google music or Box
I've always felt 16 was plenty. I have all the apps I want in both webOS and ICS, and still have about 8GB free on the storage. I think I have about 1GB free on the system partition (that's where the apps install). But, I don't put on any music or videos. I have Netflix, Pandora, and Google Music, so I stream any content I want.
To me the device is basically a paperweight without a network connection. Like 90% of my use is either YouTube, Netflix, or web browsing. So I dont worry about space.
If you plan on loading it up with music I would think 16 us still plenty. Even though I have over 100 GB of music files, I only really listen to about 2GB consistently on my phone. If you plan on loading movies on it, 16 may be an issue.

Although I'm subscribed to services such as google music and box.net, I store my media files locally as opposed to streaming, so 16gb didn't suffice for me. My thinking is that streaming media files via box.net or google music is a good option if you: 1) stream only over wifi or 2) have an unlimited data plan. Basically unless you're utilizing your phone for wireless tether (on a limited data plan) for the majority of your network consumption, you could conceivably survive with 16gb.
I own the 16GB version, and the space is sufficient for my needs, although in hindsight I would have preferred the 32GB version because I often find myself playing the game of "Do I keep these files, or those files?".
hi,
is there any chance to see the specific usage of the storage in the system.
I copied a folder onto my phone with 11gb but deleted it again and there where already broken links in pictures music and videos.
Now i have 2.39 GB of "other" storage and i dont know where this is coming from.
Apps is 611MB music 89 and videos 90.. system 1.91gb
is this 2.39 something apps and browser put there or should they count into apps. and where do my 2 nokia maps downloads count in?
in the explorer i only can see pictures and video that is right.
music is only my music pass files without downloads
Reported as dup of thread in Lumia 920 Q&A forum.
The word is this is flexible storage that Windows Phone uses. This is larger than it needs because your not using the space. it will compress if you need the space..
What is using all this space, im counting everything together and I come to approx. 1,5 Gb. I don't see any app would have such an amount of date.
The phone is a week old, no heavy games.
I do have a lot of Mp3s but they are shown under Music and Audio.
Does anybody else have this issue, what could it be?
Thanks in advance
