[Q] How can I write only-text mms? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!!In my first post i introduce myself in this so helpful web, (i'm surprised with the amount of knowledge here!), and I send a question:
Here in spain my only text mms costs 6 cents., and I can write a lot more than a sms, which also costs 6 cents. That's why I rather send text mms instead of sms. But I can't find the way to do this with the Galaxy S!I think the phone changes the message type according to its content (text->sms, multimedia->mms). Is it possible to change that?Or maybe with some market app?
Thank you very much and sorry if I made some mistake with english!

SMS Problem.. Need an extra "9"...

Hi. I have a Kaiser with Dutty's Rom. I'm in Peru.
When i receive a message (normal style, no threated), the number showed is (by example) +511980816915. When i answer it, i answer to the same number, +511980816915, of course. By the way, +511 is the country/city code.
This is my problem. My service plan needs an extra "9" to make a call or send a text message. It means, when i answer the example message, the number should be +5119980816915. So i can't send a message by selecting the answer message option directly.
Could you help me? Is there any script to do it (put an extra "9"? Thanks in advance.
I messaged someone that might be from peru and gave him the link to this thread. This sounds tricky.
Hi, I´m in Perú too, Im think thats nothing wrong if you take attention apart of the +511 you have the nine numbers of the new numeration that includes the 9. Let me test in my artemis.

SMS restricted to 160 characters?

Seems SMS messages are restricted to 160 characters on my Diamond, anything over and it goes into a second SMS. Is there a way to extend this?
I've searched the forum, but I couldn't find a solution... either that or my searching skills are nil points
even if you changed it on your end. the received phone would still split the message.
You sure? I don't understand. I could type bigger texts than this on my old phones. Isn't there new versions of SMS that support more characters that have been out for a few years now? Or am I missing something?

It is called email
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_message_service
SMS is restricted to 160 characters each message. That isn't something with the Diamond but a limitation of the protocol -always, on every phone-. that's why it is called SMS: "SHORT message service".
Most modern phones, including the Diamond, are sending multiple messages to overcome this limit. In most cases the receiving phones are able to combine those segmented messages.
So, perhaps some settings (on you Diamond, or more likely on the other end) are mixed up.
So I just ignore the fact I can type text messages over 160 characters on my old LG/Sony phones without having to send two messages and get used to the fact my futuristic Diamond can't?
aaah, maybe it's an optical illusion. I just feel I'm having to send shorter text since getting this phone. Maybe I should reduce my font text size to help me from feeling/seeing things lol. Excuse my loco'ness.
As I said, your Diamond will overcome this restriction by dividing your text in seperate messages, you have to do nothing, just type what you want to type. If you are not able to do so, search for any relevant settings. I guess your Diamond isn't much different from mine, and mine is intelligent enough to do the job on its own.
Yeah, it will go over 160. So, if I do, the recipient will receive two (or more) text messages?

Techically: yes. But he/she also did with messages send with your old phone. It all depends on the phone and settings used by the recipient if it actually shows up as seperate messages or if they will be combined again.
cheers. I shall put it to the test by text my girlfriends phone! Huzzah!
Succes! (and as this forum has a restriction of AT LEAST 10 characters, I type some nonsense as well )
Just send an MMS, its cheaper than two SMS (at least with my german contract) and you can send 300KB of text. That should cover even the longest short message ;-)
Well my phone contract allows me unlimited text messages (sms). I just didn't want to confuse ppl with my 2 part texts.
I did the test. Sent a text 180-odd characters long (Diamond said '2 messages').. received on a Sony Ericsson all contained in 1 text message. Damn you Diamond for making me flap.
You really don';t get it do you?
When you had to pay for your sms, you'd get really expensive.
Technically, in the 'mobile phone world', a SMS-message CAN NOT BE longer than 160 characters.
Not a single phone can do that.
So when your girls phone sais 1 message, it cleverly combines your 2 sent messages.
Send it to a ericsson t28
No, I really didn't get it, but now I do thanks to my thirst for knowledge and the helpful people of this forum.
Sorry if my lack of SMS protocol knowledge appauled you

Can anybody solve this ???

Using hero on stock from but rooted and removed crap applications...thax to everyone...
I bought this cellphone for the business use. I'm having more than 1000 clients and i've added them in the group. But my bad luck, system's sms application is just sending sms to just 40 numbers of a group.
Later i used HANDSCENT sms but it is also not providing support..and its too much slow ohhh god...i had to uninstalled it...so much errors..
CAN ANYBODY HELP ME OUT WITH THE SMS APPLICATION WHICH CAN SEND THE GROUP SMS (Specialy unlimited). I mean should not restrict the upto certain numbers. SEND TO UNLIMITED PEOPLE at a time
Thanks in advance..pls help me out

Sms Problem In LG optimus 2x Su660

hi guys! i have a korean optimus 2x phone (codename SU660). in Korean each sms has length of 80 symbols (may be they use unicode for encoding Korean text). so when i send text messages in English, even when using 3rd party apps like Go SMS or Handcent my sms is limited at 80 symbols. if i compose a longer one, the reciever will only recieve the first 80 symbols of the message. i only can send a 160-symbol message which will cost me double the fee. i tried deleting the stock messaging app by titannium backup but Go SMS still can send sms. so i think there is something in charge of sending messages in android. do u knows what it is? can i modify it or replace with another one from other rom?

As no one answered your post in 2 days I jump in
There are modded mms.apks floating around which increase the limit to 160.
For example this one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591989
and here for more versions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797341
If you have questions about them please ask them in thr respective threads, I never used a modded mms.apk, I just read about it some time ago.
problem fixed?

[Q] sony xperia tl message settings?

Hey all! I recently got my new Xperia tl from att. One thing I have yet to find is a message limit to convert SMS messages to mms messages. All of my other phones I've owned would either automatically change SMS messages to mms messages after say like 5 pages were written, or you could select the type of message. The reason why I ask is when a message is like 5 pages long the person in talking to usually gets 5 messages but they almost never come in the right order so its like trying To put a puzzle of messages together! Haha. So is there any way to set a limit to.change the message type after the text gets to certain length? Thanks all!
I think that a five message long could be divided with a few Full Stops. Or send a email, better I think for such a long message.

You could use a third party mms message app.
Now that you have asked your QUESTION and I have ANSWERED it, can you recognise which section this thread should have been posted in?
Thread moved. Please post all your questions here in Q&A in future.
Thanks
