I wiped from recovery wipe data and cache wipe dalvik cache and wipe sd ext.I hope so this is the meathod to wipe
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

Yup, that should've done it.
Not sure what is going on, all I can suggest a factory reset, or revert to stock and start again...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

factory reset as in stock recovery and and stock rom?

That's about all I can suggest. You can back up before, and you can always root again...
Or wait for some other advice, I'm sure there's better ideas floating around, and honestly, I've never heard of this issue before...

CM Nightly and Google Apps

I know you don't have to wipe to upgrade to a CM nightly, but should I get Google Apps again when prompted to in ClockworkMod?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
If it's the same version that you already have, then there's no point...
If it's a newer version, then go for it...
Latest version can usually be found here:

Thanks a lot. I need my flashing fix so I'm going to start doing nightlies. I just can't wait for final.

Flashed it without the GAPPS and upon rebooting they weren't there. I just downloaded them from the link, flashed, and now I'm setting them up. I guess it deletes all of your login info. No biggie, easy stuff.
Sorry, if you're doing a full wipe, then you will need to reflash the gapps. I seldom wipe on the nightlies...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Oh no I didn't wipe, that's why I thought it was strange. No biggie.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
its a RM shortcoming.. you have to select gapps at that prompt or reboot into recover and manually flash just the ROM.. otherwise your gapps dont survive
Got it!

I was looking at the Cyanogen site, and few people have been commenting on some of the latest nightlies removing the gapps (presumably overwriting the whole system folder).
No biggie, and not a common occurrence...

need help on cwm
hi, im some what new to this and im having some problems with wcm on mytouch 4g... well had the phone working great and i when to try out a new rom called synergy-rc1 i booted in to recovery then wipe data/ factory reset then wiped cache partition and also wipe Dalvik cache then installed from sc card like before everything was going great then restarted the phone after it completed the install and it booted into the synergy rom screen then it sat there for about 10min and it restarted again and it keaps looping over. restarted in to recovery (cwm ) and tried to do a a factery reset and clear cache and this is what i got and i cant even do a restore.
clockworkmod recovery v5.0.2.0
checking MD5 sums...
Erasing boot before restore...
restoring boot image...
restoring system...
Error while formatting /system!
any help would be appreciated [email protected]
probably a corrupt sd partition.
cwm is known top do that..
try formatting your sd card after saving the content to your pc first.
after format move stuffs back
I would go ask this question in the mytouch 4G section you will probably get better answers.

[Q] HELP!!!

I'm new to this site and it won't let me post in the development section. I flashed cyanogenmod on my captivate and now it's stuck in a reboot loop. I don't know what to do! i pulled the battery, didn't work. I tried to put it in download mode, didn't work. it goes to the at&t screen, then the cyanogen mod screen, then to the recovery screen. it does this forever. and i mean FOREVER, it only stops when i pull the battery, then i start it up and it does the same thing. PLEASE HELP!! how do i fix this? i need a phone!!
How are you trying to get into download mode?
At what point in the install did you start having problems

Can you go into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache, then try to boot?
Or do you have any other roms in your card you can flash.
Does amonRA make a recovery for samsungs, or you guys gotta use CWM?
Edit: sorry, not sure what 'download mode' is. You mean you can't get into bootloader?
Edit2: sorry didn't know that. Know nothing about samsungs. Good luck buddy.
You guys can only use cm or miui?
Isn't there a rooted version if your stock rom in your subforum? Couldn't that fix the issue, if you could DL it to pc, then go to recovery, USB/Ms and move rom to SD card?

[Q] Soft bricked 5570 - boot screen freeze

Hello dear friends!
I have following issue with the phone>
1. Phone had froyo installed on it.
2. i tried to copy a custom rom to sd, and then, i just tried to flash it directly via stock recovery. (completly noobish, i realize now...)
3. apparently by the status from the stock recovery it succeeded. BUUUT actually not...
so>
4. i got stuck into the samsung boot logo...
so>
5. i tried to flash cwm recovery through this steps provided by this tutorial.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342190
6. I now got a black screen instead of any recovery. tried it also with the froyo version of the recovery (designed apparently specially for froyo devices) and also with the gingerbread one. still no joy....
now, i am really lost and have no further ideas.... please help me at least get this back to stock again (it is the phone from work and i will have a hard time explaining them that i bricked it.... )...
please advise what should i try further??
THANKS!!!!!
PS> pls take into account that i am kind of a noob regarding this device... did a lot of things on my hox, but i do not know to much about this s5570....
download a four package firmware then flash it with Odin
Can u pls give me a link to a download / tutorial?? It's my first encounter with odin, so i am pretty noobish... Pls pls

ok, now device is in following state>
flashed GB rom on it - working
by downloading official gb rom from
here
flashed cwm recovery - works with the steps from my first post now
flashing a custom rom from a zip on the sd card does not work afterwards!!!!!!! - it soft bricks phone again and i have to redo the 2 steps above.... why???
what am i doing wrong???
you didn't wipe data and cache before and after flashing process, right
now u have cwm recovery just boot into recovery and flash another rom... but before u flash rom make sure u clear cache and data from recovery menu then flash rom.
Guilty as charged!!
Trying it now and updating afterwards!

if your flashing gingerbread over froyo without wiping cache and data then that's why your getting soft brick.
I flashed jb from odin, so no cache deletion needed...
But yes, for custom rom install delete cache data all except sd before!!
So now cyanogenmod is up and running!!

[Q] bootloops after flashing rom

I just got a nexus one for $35 that i plan on using mostly as an mp3 player. I rooted it using the one click method but it's still S-on. Part of my issue is that booting into recovery using CWM only works maybe 25% of the time. Not sure why that is. A couple times I've been able to flash a rom via recovery but after seeing the X screen, the phone bootloops on the next splash screen. This has happened on two GB roms - MIUI and CM 7.2.
Any guess on why this happens? One reason I want to flash a rom is that the camera doesn't work so I'm curious if it would work in a different rom.

Before flashing a ROM, clear cache/ dalvik-cache from recovery. If you don't do these, then you will see bootloops.
I had been doing that through rom manager but just did it through recovery. still bootlooping.
I wiped cache but did not factory reset

If you are changing ROMs, its always advisable to do a factory reset in addition to clearing cache and dalvik. Try it
Sent from my Nexus One
Best advice is to skip ROM manager and always do everything manually in recovery, this has never been a problem for me
And just because, I would suggest using 4ext recovery as in my opinion it is by far the most superior recovery... Just saying
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Unfortunately, I've tried flashing manually via recovery too...still bootloops
Check md5sum of ROM (maybe bad download)
Make sure you wipe fully (manually in recovery or with fastboot)
Make sure you meet requirements of ROM in op (as in you flashed gapps if needed or you have a large enough system partition etc)
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
yeah, i haven't checked the md5's but it's odd that it's happened with both official miui and cyanogenmod. i did wipe cache and dalvik. i think i'm just going to give up. i'd do a factory restore but don't want to do that because then i'd have to root my phone again. i rooted the phone using a Vista computer but now I'm back home and my computer runs windows 8. from what I can tell, installing the android SDK is kinda complicated on W8.
Factory reset is needed and will not mean you have to reroot your phone, this is something that would be done before each flash, in fact the cleaner the wipe the less chance of an issue.
Also there is no need for the SDK to root (but its easy to get for windows 8 anyway and tools such as fastboot and adb are very handy... Also there are other ways to get these tools without the SDK) but all that besides the point, these are your steps
Nandroid backup
Wipe everything as clean as possible
Flash ROM and anything else needed (gapps etc)
Reboot
This is the procedure you should follow for any ROM flash for any android and never a need to reroot in between
Best of luck
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I really appreciate the help. the reason I mention the SDK is that my computer doesn't recognize my phone unless I install the SDK and the associated drivers. So I'd hate the wipe my phone so that I can flash a rom, but then be unable to flash a rom because I'm not rooted!
But you feel confident that if I factory reset, I won't loose root?
I factory reset daily! You'll be just fine, when you factory reset and wipe all partitions you are following the proper procedure to change roms. When you flash the new one you are sure to still have root access
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
well, did a factory reset last night but i'm still having the same problem. I'm at a loss.

[Q] AOSP Alpha Build 6 ROM install failure

This is my first time installing a custom ROM. The phone has been rooted for some time now. I downloaded the AOSP ROM and GAPP 2012011, and flashed both packages. I did not use any third-party software to flash, and it appears the process was successful. When the phone reboots, it hangs at the point where the glowing X (like when my Nexus 7 starts up) appears, and nothing else happens.
Where did I go wrong?
Thanks to anyone who has a suggestion.
Maybe it was a corrupted download or you forgot to wipe

Did you forget to wipe your data, cache, and dalvik cache before you flashed. Also are you sure your downloads are not corrupted :cyclops:
Assuming you mean this AOSP right http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2081011&highlight=aosp
I would just use Supernexus 4.2.2 plus AOIP kernel whitescreen fix or if you want 4.1 use camcorys 4.1.2 build
Also what recovery and build are you using?

I don't know what you mean by recovery. I used the file AOSP_ancora_tmo_tim1928-4.1.2-Build 6.
And no, I did not wipe the data before I installed the ROM the first time. However I have tried that, and then reinstalled the ROM. Same results.
I feel there is some app or more detailed procedure to installing this ROM, but I don't find specific instructions anyplace.
Thanks for the help I've gotten so far. Any other pointers or suggestions?
