CM Nightly and Google Apps - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know you don't have to wipe to upgrade to a CM nightly, but should I get Google Apps again when prompted to in ClockworkMod?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

If it's the same version that you already have, then there's no point...
If it's a newer version, then go for it...
Latest version can usually be found here:

Thanks a lot. I need my flashing fix so I'm going to start doing nightlies. I just can't wait for final.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

Flashed it without the GAPPS and upon rebooting they weren't there. I just downloaded them from the link, flashed, and now I'm setting them up. I guess it deletes all of your login info. No biggie, easy stuff.

Sorry, if you're doing a full wipe, then you will need to reflash the gapps. I seldom wipe on the nightlies...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

Oh no I didn't wipe, that's why I thought it was strange. No biggie.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

its a RM shortcoming.. you have to select gapps at that prompt or reboot into recover and manually flash just the ROM.. otherwise your gapps dont survive

Got it!

I was looking at the Cyanogen site, and few people have been commenting on some of the latest nightlies removing the gapps (presumably overwriting the whole system folder).
No biggie, and not a common occurrence...

need help on cwm
hi, im some what new to this and im having some problems with wcm on mytouch 4g... well had the phone working great and i when to try out a new rom called synergy-rc1 i booted in to recovery then wipe data/ factory reset then wiped cache partition and also wipe Dalvik cache then installed from sc card like before everything was going great then restarted the phone after it completed the install and it booted into the synergy rom screen then it sat there for about 10min and it restarted again and it keaps looping over. restarted in to recovery (cwm ) and tried to do a a factery reset and clear cache and this is what i got and i cant even do a restore.
clockworkmod recovery v5.0.2.0
checking MD5 sums...
Erasing boot before restore...
restoring boot image...
restoring system...
Error while formatting /system!
any help would be appreciated [email protected]

probably a corrupt sd partition.
cwm is known top do that..
try formatting your sd card after saving the content to your pc first.
after format move stuffs back

I would go ask this question in the mytouch 4G section you will probably get better answers.

I wiped from recovery wipe data and cache wipe dalvik cache and wipe sd ext.I hope so this is the meathod to wipe
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yup, that should've done it.
Not sure what is going on, all I can suggest a factory reset, or revert to stock and start again...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
factory reset as in stock recovery and and stock rom?
That's about all I can suggest. You can back up before, and you can always root again...
Or wait for some other advice, I'm sure there's better ideas floating around, and honestly, I've never heard of this issue before...

Pretty correct, although wiping data/factory reset isn't always so necessary, but still preferable and you don't have to restart after wiping/factory reset...you can just go back and flash right after!
Also, I would suggest you to do some NAND backups to get back to your old ROM in case you don't like the new one you installed!
So if its not nessasary to wipe/factory why do does it say in each rom thread to wipe?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
1. Download rom, put on root of SDCARD.
2. Boot into recovery.
3. Depending on if your switching around roms, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache
4. back to root of recovery
5. select flash file from zip.
6. select name of rom file
7. reboot when finished

Sometimes you can get away without wiping, but until you get familiar flashing, I would follow this method...

Thx guys now i understand clearly but i got one more question. What will happen if i dont wipe?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
If you don't wipe the phone will run Thermonuclear-War.exe
Worst case is a stall at before the boot animation, most common case a boot loop at the animation.

lawl epic answer xD
Yeah well wiping is optional, but highly recommended (especially if you're new to the stuff as danger-rat said)
I wipe when switching ROMs completely, just to make sure I don't fall on bugs. I only wipe dalvik-cache and cache when updating to a new nightly/update of the same ROM.
Some people change ROMs completely and don't wipe and don't have problems, but meh...I don't want to cause useless conflicts!
You generally don't need to wipe between versions of the same rom.
But if i do the wipe data/factory wouldnt it delete the clockwork and nanodroid backup and ill have to flash clockwork again?

No, as long as you don't wipe sdcard...
Anyways, if that's all that worries you, make a copy on the computer of the whole "nandroid" or "clockworkmod" folder on your computer just in case...

Facebook and camera on aosp cm7 mod

How do I get Facebook and camera working after flashing to aosp gingerbread cm7 mod. Can't find a workaround or an update to fix. Is it still in the works?
Sent from my SUPERHERO using XDA App
The ROM is currently an unstable WIP, and the Camera does not work.
I haven't heard about any Facebook issues though. What exactly is the problem you're having with FB?
The Facebook that was on gapps FC when I go to sync in accounts and on desktop as a widget. Reinstalled twice once on hard reset and ounce in flash recovery/reboot
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Hm, I've heard of people having FC issues for certain apps when they don't correctly wipe.. what recovery are you using, and did you wipe EVERYTHING (except SD card of course) before flashing the ROM/gapps?
Cwm 3/ recovery is 2.05. Did a backup of froyo then install gb aosp latest as of 5days ago. Then install of gapps latest as of 5days ago. And went thru the steps of (install rom from card) install /wipe cache option and then reboot
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
When you say wipe everything can you briefly describe. Maybe I'm missing a step?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Okay, make sure you have the CWM version 3.0.0.5 from the aospGBMod thread, as well as the newst version of gapps and the ROM itself from that thread.
Before you flash the ROM, from the CWM Recovery main menu, go to Mounts and Storage. From there: format boot, system, data, and cache. (Do NOT format sdcard!) Then at the CWM Recovery main menu, wipe data/factory reset, just for good measure. Then try flashing the newest ROM, followed by the flashing of the newest gapps, and try to boot. See if that doesn't fix it.
Obviously, nandroid first if your current install is important to you.
This should fix any FC issues. Most issues people have with that ROM come from people not wiping correctly or from using a recovery that doesn't wipe correctly.
Word! Will try and will report back with results

Worked. Thank you

[Q] bootloops after flashing rom

I just got a nexus one for $35 that i plan on using mostly as an mp3 player. I rooted it using the one click method but it's still S-on. Part of my issue is that booting into recovery using CWM only works maybe 25% of the time. Not sure why that is. A couple times I've been able to flash a rom via recovery but after seeing the X screen, the phone bootloops on the next splash screen. This has happened on two GB roms - MIUI and CM 7.2.
Any guess on why this happens? One reason I want to flash a rom is that the camera doesn't work so I'm curious if it would work in a different rom.

Before flashing a ROM, clear cache/ dalvik-cache from recovery. If you don't do these, then you will see bootloops.
I had been doing that through rom manager but just did it through recovery. still bootlooping.
I wiped cache but did not factory reset

If you are changing ROMs, its always advisable to do a factory reset in addition to clearing cache and dalvik. Try it
Sent from my Nexus One
Best advice is to skip ROM manager and always do everything manually in recovery, this has never been a problem for me
And just because, I would suggest using 4ext recovery as in my opinion it is by far the most superior recovery... Just saying
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Unfortunately, I've tried flashing manually via recovery too...still bootloops
Check md5sum of ROM (maybe bad download)
Make sure you wipe fully (manually in recovery or with fastboot)
Make sure you meet requirements of ROM in op (as in you flashed gapps if needed or you have a large enough system partition etc)
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
yeah, i haven't checked the md5's but it's odd that it's happened with both official miui and cyanogenmod. i did wipe cache and dalvik. i think i'm just going to give up. i'd do a factory restore but don't want to do that because then i'd have to root my phone again. i rooted the phone using a Vista computer but now I'm back home and my computer runs windows 8. from what I can tell, installing the android SDK is kinda complicated on W8.
Factory reset is needed and will not mean you have to reroot your phone, this is something that would be done before each flash, in fact the cleaner the wipe the less chance of an issue.
Also there is no need for the SDK to root (but its easy to get for windows 8 anyway and tools such as fastboot and adb are very handy... Also there are other ways to get these tools without the SDK) but all that besides the point, these are your steps
Nandroid backup
Wipe everything as clean as possible
Flash ROM and anything else needed (gapps etc)
Reboot
This is the procedure you should follow for any ROM flash for any android and never a need to reroot in between
Best of luck
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I really appreciate the help. the reason I mention the SDK is that my computer doesn't recognize my phone unless I install the SDK and the associated drivers. So I'd hate the wipe my phone so that I can flash a rom, but then be unable to flash a rom because I'm not rooted!
But you feel confident that if I factory reset, I won't loose root?
I factory reset daily! You'll be just fine, when you factory reset and wipe all partitions you are following the proper procedure to change roms. When you flash the new one you are sure to still have root access
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
well, did a factory reset last night but i'm still having the same problem. I'm at a loss.

[Q] i9001 crashed, not starting anymore

Today i had my phone on the charging cable. Reactivated it: everything crashed: trebuchet crashed / sms crashed /whatsapp crashed.
So i took the battery out, tried to restart it. It won't boot, just the Cyanogenmod Circle for 5min+.
Flashed again, same result. Flashed new rom (from davidteri 10.1.0 RC to 10.2 Beta 9.) but now it's stuck at Android is updating / Starting Apps (maybe it's called different, just translating from german).
Any ideas / thougts??
You can't just install cm10.2 over cm10.1 without wiping data. It's a different android version. Try to install cm10.1 again and wipe cache and dalvik cache and fix permissions. If that doesn't work, then I'm sorry but you have to wipe data. If this is the case, do a nandroid-backup. After installing the new rom you can use titanium backup or AppExtractor to extract your apps out of the backup
Greetings, käsebr0t.
