Odd gallery problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi hope this is posted in the right area... But anyway for some reason whenever I connect my galaxy s to the pc with the mass storage option, once disconnected I end up with 3,4 or even 5 copys of each image on my sd card and internal storage... I'm running JPM at the moment.

I am getting this problem as well, and it only affects file on the external SD, and only picture files when inside the gallery.

Not sure why sometimes if I connect the phone to the pc or move the pictures into another folder it fixes the problem but it comes back everytime I connect back to the pc... I don't remember it happening in the old firmwares...

Do u unmount ur phone the propper way or do u just unplug it? Cause im on jpm and i always use unmount and i never had this problem

i had this problem before...
delete the folder.. DCIM\.thumbnails in internal/(external) sd
see how that goes
should work =)
cheers

I normally do it the unmount way, once done with using usb just to make sure. I deleted the thumbnails but if I use usb again it just recreates the thumbnails and I get even more pictures in the gallery... :/ Its a bit hit and miss. Thanks anyway

Same problem here... i've already tried everything. Now i have 4 repeated thumbs!! JIZZ
I'm using JPA firmware.

[Q] Error copying files from internal SD to PC

I hope you guys here from XDA can help me solving a question I have about some errors I get when trying to backup the gameloft game's data on my PC and either nandroid backups created on the internal SD of my Galaxy Tab (something that usually happened with my old Galaxy S too).
I try both ways, with the Tab connected to Windows 7 in Mass Storage or Kies mode, but sometimes I get some weird errors (the file transfer stops and the USB connection hangs out, and sometimes, when I insist in trying to copy the file that gave me the error, the file ends up corrupting itself in the internal memory), but after turning the tab off and then on again, I can get the files normally and get no errors.
Does the internal SD memory of Galaxy series get corrupted that easily, the USB connection is poor or what?
The weird part is that this only happens copying files from the internal SD to PC. In the reverse way, I get no errors, so I don't believe it's a dock conector/USB cable problem, since it's a original and new USB cable that don't show any kind of problem when flashing roms, for example. I belive that if it was some kind of dock/usb cable problem I wouldn't be able to flash roms or transfer large files from PC to Tab without the same kind of errors showing up, right?
Did someone here experience the same errors I mentioned?
Thanks!
Nobody?
Have u updated ur Kies software becoz it installs latest USB drivers for ur Tab.
Yes, Kies is updated, but I dont think it matters when using usb mass storage mode...
Rooted tab? Read-write mode enabled?
Yes, rooted, and no read-write enabled for /system.

[Q] ADB pull /sdcard not working?

hey
I've a question I try to save the data of a friends phone whos screen is broken and dont respond.
Everytime I use
Code:
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/ C:\Android
it responds with
Code:
Code:
pull: building file list...
0 files pulled. 0 files skipped.
What do I wrong??
Thanks for your replies
Does really nobody know it?
Or does anybody have a solution the save data from a phone which screen is broken (black) and touch screen doesn't work either and last but not least usb debugging isn't enabled.
Without USB debugging enabled, you can't connect trough adb, try doing "adb devices", wich will probably show nothing, what means that you can't use adb.

I've rooted the phone blind and in the recovery my pc shows the device in the list, status = recovery.
Oh okay, then try to mount sdcard and try again, if that doesn't work, try to unmount it again and try again.

thank you very much for your replie, i tried it with my phone (i9000) and it worked
the problem is that my friend has a Galaxy S3 and i don't know the structure of CWM 5.5...
Well there isn't that much difference between the cwm versions, if you look at it it almost explaines itself
Sent from my awesome fridge
there are some diffrentes between the versions and because i don't see what i do, it's very important to know in which order the things are coming
At the moment the situation is the following:
All the data on the sd got erased (i dont know when), but i have now access to the sd over the pc. The problem is that the S3 doesnt support usb mass storage which means that recuva etc to restore the files wont work.
Are there any other ways to restore the data or to activate usb mass storage?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
not unless you have a TitaniumBackup...if you have CWM 6.0.1.0 mounting USB storage option is in recovery itself
also i have no intention of high jacking this thread but off late i am facing certain weird issues with adb myself Error mounting SDcard
My dont have a TitaniumBackup but that is anyway useless cause he need his pictures etc. Do you have read the whole thread? Because at the moment the problem is that i cant restore the data from the erased sd card cause windows dont detect the Galaxy S3 as a Usb mass storage. And because the screen is broken I also cant try a solution from xda ^^
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Well, the data on your sdcard is gone, if adb won't recognize it. But what files do you want from your sdcard? 'cause when you only need the pictures, it might be auto-uploaded on dropbox or google drive etc
Sent from my awesome fridge
I think you missunderstood ^^ first the pictures arent uploaded to dropbox etc. And the problem first was that i couldnt get access to the data cause he had a pin to unlock which i cant tip in without screen. After flashing a 3 file fw the pin was gone and i could access the data. Unfortunality it also formated the whole SD.
The same Problem happend to my phone and i could restore my data with the program called "Recuva".
The problem now is that the S3 don't have a USB Mass Storage like the S1 and the PC dont detect it as a hard drive so Recuva wont recognize it either
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Well you can always buy a USB stick with sdcard availability, or use another phone with that sdcard to wich does have mass storage enabled.
Sent from my awesome fridge
The problem is, i need the data from this Phone. Accidently it formated the whole internal memory on which everything was (Music, Pictures etc.).
With a Tool called Recuva you can restore deleted files. But Recuva doesn't recognizes the Galaxy S3. Because Galaxy S3 don't have Mass Storage anymore, I thought Samsungs uses now MTP or something like this. And now i need a Tool or something to restore everything from the formated internal SD.
Try searching for that on google.
Sent from my awesome fridge
I did for nearly 5 hours
you're my last hope
All wouldn't be a problem if the screen would work or if my friend enabled usb debugging
Is there any possibility to get into recovery mode and flash a Rom? If yes, you could use a Stockrom with a modified build.prop so USB debugging would be enabled.

Usb debugging dont matter at the moment cause all files are deleted! I need a tool to restore a formated sd

Okay nevermind, it's possible, but to recover the files you need something to pare your sdcard to your PC, do you have any other phone or a USB stick with a sdcard slot?

[Q] Certain Files not displayed on PC Please Help

OK guys I am in a bit of a Pickle here.
I plugged my phone into a PC in Bangkok to print out some PDFs containing flight information.
the pc started making .exe files on my phone with duplicate names of existing folders. e.g i have a folder called media on my phone so an exe called media.exe was created DCIM.exe and so on.
i plugged the phone into my laptop and ESET found a high amount of infiltrations over 400 which it cleaned by deleting. these were all the duplicate . exe files that it flagged as worms and Trojans.
now when i plug my phone into my laptop only certain files are visible. this is on the external SD and the phone itself. the files exist on the phone and SD card as i can see them all in in the explorer app such as all of my pictures and music camera photos etc, but alas the pc will not display these folders but when i click properties on the drive name in my computer it shows the free and used space correctly.
please do you have any suggestions ? my phone is rooted and i am using the alliance ROM. and do not want to brick this device just because of a stupid Asian virus.
thank you for any help you can offer
Alliance rom? JB or ICS?
Cuz in JB there is an issue with mtp of not displaying all files.
In ics, you can try to format your internal sd card and restore the data and check.
For this boot into recovery. Go to mounts and storage and mount usb storage. Connect to pc and this time you should see everything. If yes, copy all data to pc and format the storage using pc or format/emmc. Then put back the data. Reboot and check.
It is Alliance Rom ICS. so you mean format the phones SDCARD and the External SD card in recovery mode ?
yes either using the recovery option or using the drives displayed on the screen when connected to PC

What is the use?
If he formats it he will lose the files he is trying to access.
I have the same problem but I don't have any viruses. Just ask the photos from the last two months don't show when viewed from a Windows PC across a USB connection.

[Q] Data loss from internal storage and sd card

Hi guys
I plugged my note into my pc using usb cable to transfer games I had downloaded. After unplugging I discovered that all video files and all picture files have disappeared from both the internal sd and my sd card. This is really confusing. I've no idea how this has happened and what I can do to restore it all. This is really upsetting as we had a new baby recently and all my photos of her and my other kids have disappeared. :crying:
Any advice will be gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance.
GG
Just reboot your device and check again
Hi
Tried reboot. Still nothing. File manager shows folders as being there, but contents are missing.

If they are really deleted try something like "DiskDigger" and check if it finds your pictures.
I used it on the JB leak which doesn't show all files and folders when connected to the PC. I didn't think of this and deleted an "old and empty" folder. I lost about 200 pictures of my baby.
With this tool I got back all of them.
That sounds fantastic, I'll give it a go. Many thanks!

Note cant see internal usb storage

So my Galaxy Note has just stopped seeing the internal usb storage. I have a 32GB SD Card installed and can read that fine but the internal USB storage has unmounted itself somehow. When I go into settings and storage and try to mount the usb storage, it does not work, it just flashes up with "Preparing USB storage" and then nothing happens.
File explorers can't see the usb storage but can browse the SD Card fine. Some aps are running, some do not run properly as a result (eg Swiftkey keyboard works but can't access text prediction etc).
Presumably a file is corrupt somewhere and stopping the phone from reading the internal storage somehow but I am not very techy.
It is running the stock Samsung firmware with Android 4.1.2. I've turned the phone off and on a couple of times, taken the battery out etc.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Done. :good:
Have you tried a factory reset?

Maybe formatting it is the last option if changing ROM doesn't help.
I haven't tried a factory reset yet, that is probably the next step. However, will that effect the EMMC bug? I guess the other alternative is to flash with a ROM, probably the same one I have now but as I have no experience of doing that, I will need to take some time to read up on the process etc.
Thanks E.Cadro for moving the thread.
Hello, I'm currently facing the same issue as well. For no rhyme or reason, the internal phone storage is not detected. Trying to find ways to salvage the memory as there are some stuff that's not backed up.
Does any one have any tips on fixing it before trying the last resort of formatting to factory settings?
Some details:
Stock samsung firmware running 4.1.2
Not rooted

I'm just not seeing why a factory reset is such a big deal (from a safe kernel of course)
So you have to spend 20 minutes setting up the phone again...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Point is to try to save the storage as I have mentioned, some things (photos and stuff) have not been backed up yet.
Sent from my LG-E988 using Tapatalk 4
I resolved the problem by doing the factory reset. Not such a big deal but lost some data in the process that I could not back up because of the internal storage not being mounted. In my case the data I lost was not such a big deal as most of my important stuff was on the ext sd card or in a cloud somewhere.
After the reset, the note is obviously like new and running very smoothly. Makes me think I should do a reset every so often to clear out apps that accumulate and just to give the phone a fresh start.
