I'm looking for an application that can read music and use playlists located on my computer in Windows Media Reader, using Wi-Fi. My files are all MP3 and WMA.
Can anybody help me ?
Skytunes works via wifi, or 3G

Thanks for the info. Skytunes looks interesting and uses Adobe Air and seems to be able to stream music using WiFi. Unfortunately it does not handle WMA files and a good chunk of my 60+GB of music is WMA...
Here's something interesting...
I just navigated from my phone to a folder on my PC (using EStrongs Explorer), and clicked a WMA file, to see if I could stream it. The file played after about 2 seconds, but the screen was blank so I've no idea what was playing it...?
I'll keep digging...

For rooted phones with custom ROMs (or just custom kernels with CIFS support), and for users that know a bit UNIX and aren't afraid to use Terminal:
Search Development forum for "CIFS mount".
I've been playing with Twonky to serve media from my PC to my Revue. There's also a Twonky app for Android, and so I can now stream from PC to my Nexus...
Works great, kinda expense for PC client (I'm still using demo), and no idea of supported formats, but maybe worth a look?

Subsonic is a good app.

My PC and Nexus connected to same network over wifi. I tried to do subject over estrongs file explorer but there is no result I can't play any video file unless I coppied it to the phone. I what to watch video streamming from the PC, without needs copping. I guess there must be special app for this task. But wich one is it?

I haven't been able to stream from my pc, but I can use ES to copy a file to my sdcard and play it via rock player. I'm pretty sure there are served based apps like OrbLive that allows you to stream from your desktop, but they require you to install a service on your pc. My pc is cluttered enough as it is, so personally I'm against that route.
Curious as to any other options you uncover.

i believe gmote allows some video streaming though i'm unsure of which file types.
Gmote won't do divx avi. Otherwise it's a perfectly workable solution for mp4 and any format that android natively supports.

Perfectly will be to watch avi using estrongs file explorer over samba via yxplayer. But any of files can't be open direct from the PC in estrongs file explorer at least. They must be first coppied to the phone. How can I open files direct from PC like if I do that from PC to PC?

Maybe there is a player which can play video over UPnP for example?

If you're rooted - look in Development forum, there's a post about how to mount the Samba server path as one of the system directories using binaries. This would allow you to do exactly what you want to do.
You might also try using RockPlayer Beta as the media player.

I finally got my VPN set up how I want it and now I am running into problems using the PnP apps out there. I am using mediatomb on my storage server, which is a basic uPnP server. Skifta is able to browse it and see content, but when I try and play something, it launches rock player and hangs and I have to force kill both apps.
upnplay doesn't find the mediatomb one, but it does find a upnp server I made by using windows media play on a windows box on the network. However, when I browse down to a folder containing the content, it just says "invalid action". Many times it will simply not find any upnp servers and there doesn't seem to be a way to force a scan.
What are people using to play videos over upnp? Ideally I would use rock player as these are typically divx encoded avis.
Hm, upnp it seems to work OK when I am local, is rock player really that sensitive to latency?
I use UPnPlay and it works great.

I am using ubuntu with minidnla to stream my videos. I am not sure if reacts differently with different oses but like I said I have no problem what so ever. I use it with my Xbox, PS3, android & iOS devices.
I used to use rock player but I have switched to mobo player.

Hm, I'll give mobo play a try. Are guys streaming via wifi (or 3g) NOT on your home network?
Hi,
1) After weeks of looking for an app that is similar to AirVideo (Ipad), I came across Emit. However, I am able to hear sound but not picture. I've tried with avi,mp4 and mkv. All with same result. Has anyone have the same experience and know how to fix? My DS 7 still has OS 2.2.2 but rooted.
2) Does anyone know any similar app that allow to stream video from PC, but not playing on PC as the same time lik Emit or AirVieo(Ipad).
Thanks
You can set up plex media server on your pc and install the client on your tab. that's what I do

Plex media server works. Thank you navycow.
What is the easiest way to stream HD MKV to my tab maybe one that doesn't need all sorts of apps installed I have xbmc and vlc already installed on my desktop rig

VLC Direct is what I use. As long as you setup the web interface and have both devices connected to the same network, you'll be able to do the automatic setup and either use your tab as a remote for your computer, or (if you long press) stream the file straight to your tab.
The cool thing about VLC is that you can set this stuff up over 3g as well. As long as you open the port that VLC uses for its web interface and have your ip address (which you can get from www.ipchicken.com) you can remote/stream through 3g. However, unless you have some crazy upload speeds from your ISP, it won't really work too well for streaming.
By upload do you mean 3G out my actual internet

If your tab is rooted: I use cifs manager to mount a share I have setup on the PC and play the files through Diceplayer. Works really well.
I haven't tried it with MKVs, but ES File Explorer can stream a video file over samba to a video player of your choice without the need for cifs manager even.
Personally, I like Upnplay + Moboplayer. Sure, you need a DLNA/UPnP server on your PC, but there are lots of free ones.

does ES file manager let you pick which video player? I've been trying different combos of file managers SMB/cifs clients and video players (as well as editing build.prop) to get a working solution EVERY time, I've got it to work once, but as soon as i did a fresh stock > rooted stock flash the same process doesn't work anymore. Oh well, more tinkering I suppose..

Yeah, it's a recent addition to ES, past month or so maybe. I use it with Rockplayer.

Yeah. If you have a high enough upload speed at home (meaning, higher than like, 7-12 mbps, most American households have around 1-3 mbps >.>), you'll be able to stream no problem through 3g (but it will use data on your tab). Meaning, you can watch it from anywhere.
Or, you could just stream to your tab via your wireless LAN in your house.
Can anyone tell me the best way to view files, video(movies),pics, music over y wifi network. I've tried various apps like upnp along with mobo player and codec add on but it only plays certain files most of my media is not accesable.
I used to use a laptop and watch everything perfectly from my pc downstairs using the windows library share if only was as easy with my xoom. when i try to acces the library the xoom see's the library but only short video content of all my video camera clips nothing is organized as is on my pc. Please help as there doesnt seem to be any info anywhere, Thanks.
I used mobo and then mx player. I tried BS player and for me it works a lot better. My pics and music are in picasa and Google music.

Install subsonic on your desktop, then the subsonic client on your Xoom. Best streaming solution I've found.

This is the correct answer. I highly recommend it.
I use zumocast. Works great for me. For local files, Rockplayer lite plays everything I throw at it. There is also a pre-Alpha release of VLC for Android out that I use sometimes.
