Hi all,
As with the topic above, anyone knows the real reason with the call back of the official JPM firmware( or JP6)?
Read up on some sources, some said that its causes unstability. However, so far it seems okay to me in terms of stability and usabilty. Running on Darky's Steel Edition Rom 3.0. Seems good.
Cheers.

Just take a quick look at the changelist from JJ1 (SC02) and JPK, JPM / JP6 and compare these. All of these builds are from the same tree!
And did you ever take a look @ your logs (being on "stock" JPM / JP6)?
Yes, the customized ROMS are really really good. But all of 'em still have some (mostly minor) issues. I think Sammy has got to fix all (or most) of them before
they finally want to release it.
Btw, do you remember the first 2.2 releases from HTC
The only question is: Which way does less overall damage?
I think the final release will be almost identical as JPM/JP6 but Samsung has to patch the Kies so that it won't brick SGS so easily.
My Froyo 2.2 is unstable!!!
I for one really can't wait for the next "official" fix
My cold boot up times are way slower than the JG5 firmware and the phone suffers from forced closes sometimes and lags like hell!
It's just so annoying knowing what the phone is capable of but not having the firmware to back it up.
I hope the official froyo 2.2 release fixes all the bugs!
Well mine run better then ever on the official jp6. Granted root and lagfix is still needed becouse of the lovely rfs...

Here's hoping that the delay means that they will upgrade to 2.3 rather than 2.2 that will save you samsung.

Hello everyone!! My name is Dimitris and I am 15 years old. I'm new to this forum and also new to the android world. I spend a lot of time on mobile phones. I had a Nokia N82 and I learnt almost everything about symbian os. But now it's old and I decided to go for a new phone. After long research i decided to buy the samsung galaxy s. i'm pretty happy with it so far. but i need some help to learn more about the android os. and by that i mean the hacks and mods that exist. 1st of all i want to put froyo on it. can someone help me root my phone and then flash it with the best froyo rom so far? I know that this must have been already asked. but couldn't find anything... also i'm gonna make more questions in this thread. any answer will be appreciated
i suggest u look further in the rom section because there are enough tutorials on how to root your phone and how to flash a custom rom on it
search and u will find.
My two cents: wait for the official froyo update. The froyo versions out there are still quite raw.

yup it is so raw, that will make the phone work like a piece of junk, you are better off with the stable ROMs that are currently avaialble
A lot of froyo stuff seems to have been backported by Samsung anyway (such as Highmem support it seems). You need to ask yourself why you need froyo specifically. It's due so soon though, it probably isn't worth the effort
Thank you for your replies. First of all I want to improve my phones batery life because I currently sucks. Also I want the voice to text thing that other phones that you say something and it turns it to text. Also I want a button at the samsungs keyboard to change between english and greek language fast like on the iphone. Finally I would like to know if there are any cool apps or widgets that I should install mostly for social networking.
yes, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM FROYO BETAS!!! It will most likely break your phone!. Wait for OFFICIAL release next week
FROYO BETA's won't break your phone. PM me if you need further help.

It's trashed some people's IMEI's. So if your phone is more than a toy, you are still best off only using the official firmware
Meh, I don't see why it could trash your IMEI if you follow instructions carefully. And backup your nv_data.bin as I do. And ofc, your phone is unlocked!
The problem is, if you don't, your phone will be permanently messed up. It isn't worth it, unless you are using your phone as a toy.
You certainly can't say it wont break your phone, unlike normal flashing, there is risk involved...
Just wait for the official froyo release. Are you so much in a rush for froyo to put your phone to some risk? A week or two and froyo will be out. Migh as well wait.

so with the leaked release of froyo coming out last night. I had a hell of a time getting froyo on my phone. So just out of curiousity who stayed with froyo, downgraded back to cog or waiting for a cogged release of froyo?
waiting for cog 2.2 to check out froyo, thats how much I like having it
I wasn't running cognition to begin with, but I am sticking with froyo.

I just flashed froyo a little while ago and all seems well. I'm definitely going to keep it. I had froyo on my g1, and didnt realize how much i missed i was stuck on 2.1 with a new captivate. But the lock screen is killing me, you have to pull the screen wayyy to far!
Flashed it as soon as the multi upload link was posted. Do far no deal breakers for me. Got it rooted, side loading enabled and everything setup to be my daily driver.
I wish they'd just release the damn kernel so the people smarter than me can really get cooking on some ROMs.

I flashed to 2.2, and it is working amazing. I would never think about going back to 2.1, even though I am not smart enough to root it without the other people making it easy, which they have not done yet lol
With the leaked JI6 Froyo being so stable, I plan on sticking with it until an official release is made.
Does anyone know how to get apps that aren't showing up in the market to show up?
I flashed to froyo today and I like it. I think I'm staying with it. It has too many improvements to give up. It may start getting ported to us by at&t real soon anyway.

I flashed this afternoon.. after having some difficulty (mostly my stupidity for not disabling voodoo lagfix from Cognition) am running Froyo. I've noticed a little lag here and there but used Ryan's one click and it helped somewhat. Sofar it's amazing, havent tested GPS though. I've gotten Chrome to Phone and it works great as well as being able to play Flash. So far nothing to complain about.
I posted over in the COG thread, but I tried Froyo for a day and then flashed back to stock and then back to COG 2.1.6 w/Atinm's Voodoo kernel. I loved the GPS performance in 2.2 (after I switched to supl.google.com), but everything else is so much more polished in the current COG (as expected). I'm looking forward to the progress that is inevitably coming with Froyo though and more than likely will flash to it again soon.
Sticking with it although I cannot keep all the contracts out of the list SIM, Google and Phone contacts all load......I decided to delete SIM and Phone and keep Google contacts.
Its a keeper though. No need to root the phones yet I have everything I need.
Leaky Froyo beats crappy Eclair any day. It will be fun to see how AT&T cripples the new rom.
I went with Froyo and have not found any show stoppers at this point, so it looks like I will be staying with it.
I went with 2.2 and have stuck with it. I'm not having any issues other than the contacts list thing and its not that big of a deal to me. Ill go with COG 2.2 when he gets all the bugs worked out with a clockwork or odin install.

Never tried cognition Roms, but the leaked build seems to be 100% fully functional. Haven't had any issues, I'll be staying with it until the official release and rooting etc gets as easy at eclair build.

Its really pointless porting a 2.2.1 rom at this point. First, its honestly not much faster. Second, we're really close to have an official 2.2, maybe even gingerbread. We'll more than likely have gingerbread before anyone actually ports a fully working, bug free 2.2.1 rom based off i9000 code. You might get a VERY minor speed increase, but of course with the trade off of having tons of bugs. Not worth it in my opinion. Speed AND stability is the way to go. Not speed and bugs.

Exactly, and the only reason I brought Ragnarok to the point I did was because I had already started it. I did, however, learn a lot in the process. And I finally figured out how to fix the dang gps - even so, it is nowhere near a daily driver - more a curiosity.
This is true, if we have a ported 2.3 there is no point of having a 2.2.1
But I had in my i9000 a 2.2 ROM version and when switched to the one of Darky (2.2.1) I could see a real change in speed. (I had before Voodoo). Anyone could notice the snappiness of the phone!
It is pity, the devices have so small differences in hardware and it is so difficult to port ROMs. If you notice the Galaxy S forum is full of custom ROMs and mods, plenty of them. Aditionally long time ago there was unofficial and then official FroYo...
Waiting....The only reason I got the Vibrant is the AWS ... (and it still needs a mod for the FFC)

Yeah, I had the same curiosity 2 weeks ago. I had 2.2.1 running on my phone. For the most part it ran fine, but would randomly get tossed into a bootloop. And when I say randomly, it was extremely random. There would be times my phone would run for hours, other times it would bootloop an hour after boot, 20 minutes after boot, or immediately after boot. lol.

If you read the ragnarok thread there is a possibility that the boot loops are triggered by signal strength. Still, it would require capping the strength to stop it.
Ok so I am understanding (sorry still learning the lingo here and there), The I9000 2.2.1 is not that great but the 2.3 Gingerbread from the NS is possible to be ported to the Vibrant right?
If so then sombionix, may I suggest you dont bother your precious time with all these leaked releases (JL_x's) and only work on the 2.3 NS port. I have used a few of your roms and they are sweet, I can only imagine what it will be like with all the JIT patches in 2.3!
The i9000 is a year old, (and still is the best android phone in most markets)
it came with android 2.1 , we got 2.2 , we will get 2.3 in , lets say about 1 month , wright when 2.4 will be released.
I think samsung will eventually release a 2.4 firmware maybe in june - july but then "ice cream" will be released
So what do you guys think , we will ever see "ice cream 3.x'' officially on the i9000 , or gingerbread will the the end of the line ?
Yes, i think we will, and if we dont, we will kick up a fuss and demand it from samsung lol
or we could just wait for someone to port it from another ROM, android hacking will never die !!!!
My guess is that 2.3, maybe with a patch or two, will be the last thing that Samsung does for the i9000. I don't think there is in their interest to support a phone older than 18 months, as they probably rely on statistics. And the statistics tells them that you and me probably have bought a new phone by then.
true i suppose.
If ice cream ever did come out for the SGS is probably wouldnt be for a while, and yea me and you probably would have a new phone, so we wouldnt be on the i9000 forums to find out if it was released.
but im happy with cyanogenMod, and as long as that always gets frequent updates, il stick to this til i get a new device

Very True
Like any device the manufactures have to drop support from it at some point! I think we will see Android 2.3.3, which from ports does run smooth on this phone and then afterwards just the normal updates we see floating around for 2.2.1 etc..
Then again there are loads of adverts for the Galaxy S still on the TV so I suppose in reality we will just have to wait and see.
I really cant see us going to 2.4. I suppose someone like Darky or DOC might come up with a 2.4 ROM for the SGS in the future but who knows! I think at this stage I will be happy when a ROM comes out with fully functional 2.3.
What about the Galaxy S II. Is that a better phone than the I9000?

How could they?they aren't developers(afaik) they both need a rom as a base if sammy doesn't release one they can't mod it.
Since there is a cyanogenmod projekt for the sgs now we will propably get updates for a while because it is based in many parts on nexus s source.
So if you make the jump to cm you will propably (if they make it to the mainline) see ice cream or whatever the next updates are called

At least it has the necessary hardware to run it!
I don't think samsung will give up on the phone that increased their market! I mean 10 million units is not exatly a couple of phones...
And at the end of the day they are nothing like LG Those sad faces are still wondering about 2.3 for their Optimus 2x

Android 2.3.x is the last for Gingerbread going to be released for the i9000.
However, due to the large numbers of i9000 devices within the market, and still being sold, Samsung have no option but to release an upgrade to Ice-Cream Sandwich (Android 4.x.x).
There will be no 2.4 for Android, it goes straight to 4 (Ice-Cream Sandwich).
Because Android cannot sustain development for both 2.x.x and 3.x.x concurrently, it makes sense to release the "co-op" version for both smartphones and tablets.
Rumour has it, this version will be released end of October, first for Samsung Nexus Prime.
So November seems to be a good enough guess for the rest to follow suite.
Note: if you don't like waiting for upgrades in your country, and your device is already a year old, just install/flash a stock ROM released for a different country (closest to yours...check GSMA for technology standards if you're really worried). Also, if there is a big difference in GSMA standards, you can still flash a ROM of your choice and then use your current Modem, e.g. flash JVR update on your phone, then flash the modem for previous working version for your country.
I am from India and it's bleak in a way. The android bug hasn't really caught on here. We are severely crippled. We did not get an official Nexus. We got the Galaxy S II, the prices of GT9000 have dropped. But still no one goes for it. People here are still caught up in the iphone bug. I think Samsung will pull the plug soon to make their other phones sell.

HTC phones blow for battery life and signal. (Take it from someone who has been down that road many times with different OS)
THE SGS2 is zippier with the processor and RAM, but goes through the battery faster.
Your best bet is really one of two options:
Keep the SGS and grab a Samsung Armani battery. Its 1650mah (same physical size as stock) which makes up for any custom fast kernal battery loss versus stock.
Or
Get a Motorola Atrix which has the power of the SGS2 minus the screen but at least has the battery.
Unless you can wait a little while longer and see the ICS phones coming this fall for even more options...

It will get fixed as soon as the SGS gingerbread source code is released. Also any other AOSP ports will need to use the CM7 kernel source as does MIUI and the source port that was opened here on XDA today, as it is kind of a port of the kernel for the nexus S that is designed to run on the other SGS variants.

Before writing an derogatory post, do a bit of research.
CM7 on Galaxy S runs wonderfully and a significant number of Galaxy S users are using this as their daily driver. The remaining bugs are small. Battery life is only slightly worse, and in my usage patterns, makes no difference really. New builds are released every couple of days...check the changelog/release history.
Giving up hope on something that's nearly perfect? How depressing.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...d-7-for-samsung-galaxy-s-phones-experimental/
To the OP: someone is already trying to do a "clean AOSP" based of the work that the CM7 is doing. Why you were using ZTE Blade instructions is beyond me. A brief search would have turned up this:

And try to post in the right section please It helps everyone.
Thanks guys,
I'll try the CM7...
If not, I'll try the PMDroid.
SGS is confusing, there is XXJVK and UGKC! or JPJPM
with the MyTouch if the rom is 32A then it will work...
I have GT-I9000. with GB 2.3.3. XXJVK stock Rom.
I have lost the Phone, Contacts, Message icons on Bottom Bar of idle screen, it remained only Applications icon.
How can I bring back those..
I had this once with froyo:
go to settings -> applications - all apllications > tw launcher (or startpage or homescreen) and delete all data. But be aware, at least in froyo you loose all homescreens as well.
