Wow, that's one MOTHER****** of a long sentence.
You should flash the DOC_KALPIK FROYO JP6/JM6 V6 custom ROM. This ROM is the best I have tried so far. Instructions are on the 2nd or 3rd post and follow them to the letter!
Major credit to Docrambone and Kalpik.
You'll thank me later!
FroYo sucks bigtime for me as well. I've got a fresh jp6 with voodoo and everything still seems slower than jf3 with voodoo. Especially the browsing.. Samsung messed it up, again.

Well benchmark results of oclf are way higher than the ones of voodoo. But voodoo fixes the things u really use. Benchmark is just a stress test 4 ur phone but its far away from really using ur phone.
Did u check repartition while flashing? Coz what ur telling sounds like there is some bad software running in the background. And belive me i know what im talking about i had to do factory reset today after trying to download galerians rom for psx (downloaded @ rombuddy psx) and i wasnt able to locate the malicous file on my phone.
Im on jpm with voodoo and it works perfectly. Psx4droid and all.the gameloft games (asphalt hd, nova and gangsters) are running without problems. Just some psx roms are not but thats problem of the rom amd not froyo.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
so jpm runs more smoothly even with a lower quad rating and yes i repartitioned and lost like a 100 and something apps lol i will try jpm for a bit then see how that runs if its not great ill try the custom jp6 see how that runs. last time i installed jpm after jp3 using "JPM_JPM_U_JPM" as pda it worked but is this the right way.
thnx for your replys
Yes it runns more smothely (in my oppinion) but still ive put voodoo on coz there is some lagging. And jp6 isnt really different from jpm (at least I cant feal any difference between em)
@phandroid
There is a fix for the browser coz samsung really did mess up with that. Just search the forum for froyo browser fix
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I reckon reason why froyo is slow for some is that Samsung put in extra bull**** startup process's. Hence giving you less ram. Disable them with startup manager and install 336meg free ram kernel as froyo comes standard now with only 300 megs readable. Also I am seeing lag after installing jfs lag fix via the universal lag fix kernel. Starting to think all lag fixes screw up after a week. Prob due to fragmentation. I have to reformat every 3 weeks due to data corruption with lag fixes. But without a affix the damned phone is slow as a freakin Nokia phone. Screw you Samsung
Sent from my GT-I9000
Yeah it's a shame that Samsung is able to deliver such great hardware but screw up such a great operating system.
Too bad voodoo won't work with the 340 MB kernel...
Well, let's just hope for another FroYo release.

I don't recall Samsung EVER saying that, and that sounds like an assumption.
And forget about quadrant. It doesn't test realistic workloads. You might have a I/O write speed of 6gb/sec, a read speed of only 1mb/s, and for all we know, Quadrant might treat them equally (even though the phone might barely perform any writing at all). Use it as a guide, but unless you know EXACTLY how it tests the hardware, and the workloads you need, the results can be deceptive.
Also, I messed around with an iPhone 4 2 weeks ago and it was laggier than my SGS even without lagfix in JPM. Sure the scrolling was smoother, but switching between apps was a joke.
Give JPO a try, and wait for stock mods. But personally, I recommend against using filesystem conversion mods.
The ram is a problem for some people I guess, but I'd imagine it depends on what you are using your phone for..

I'd wait til CM6 becomes final. 2.1 IMO just doesn't run well enough on G1's hardware. The speed is there, but apps get killed too easily for memory.

There is a lot of good custom ROMs. Go check The Rom Bible and look at the ratings of every ROM there. You will find something good.
And I agree that Eclair is usable, but not to fast. You have to set up a swap partition to run it good enough to be a daily driver. However, you will not find as fast 2.1 ROM as stock Donut. G1 has too little RAM memory (processor is good enough). But something for something - if you once see 2.1 ROM you won't want to go back, trust me .
If you're looking for speed - check Dwang, it's very good.
BUT! Very much depends how your son will use the phone. If his gonna do a lot of multitasking and play with the phone 24/7 then he should stay on 1.6 or start reading how to really set up an Eclair ROM to run smooth. If he is really casual user then almost every ROM will be OK for him.

Interesting.
If he's anything like my son, he'll be using the phone for messaging. I would definitely avoid Eclair and Froyo for now. No need to root it - stock 1.6 is fine for most everyday purposes. If he starts to want to install tons of apps, then you can root and start investigating your options.
lol that happened to me my first day having the phone >.<
Hey Guys... So after updating to official froyo how is the new experience for everyone?
Few for my part...
1. MTP Application Error seems to have been fixed even with a file extension of length more than 16
2. The Mass Storage option while connecting to a computer has changed
3. But speed hasnt changed on a scalable level from previous
4. Still some Applications need force closing
5. Many more applications starting automatically
I think theres a big improvement on my device. I have a ton of apps and lag is very minimal. GPS was really poor at first but recently using the google nav app its been REALLY good. I really don't know why though. Even when I change route it takes like 2 seconds to recalculate and show where am going.

its first realease of Froyo. Still samsung need to work on performance tuneing and more stable version of froyo......
i have just discovered that the camera firmware is MUCH better on JPO than it was with JM2
I went from jm9 to jpo yesterday. I am still wondering whether to stay with froyo or go back to eclair. Eclair is definitely faster and the gps fixes were in the latest releases of eclair, I had no problems with the gps in the latest eclair versions, it still wasn't what I would call a great phone gps but was good enough for most things.
The memory usage for the browser is horrific on froyo and the browser crawls compared to the eclair one, a bit disappointing.
Market in froyo is super fast, nice.. but not a big thing really because I dont spend that much time in the market. I'd prefer having a faster browser.
Froyo does bring a few nice things but its definitely not wow like I was expecting after hearing so many people moan about it being delayed etc.
Flash? its so slow its not even worth it. Maybe when dual core cpu's come out flash might be better but I can kind of see why apple didn't bother with it now heh.
Hopefully we are going to see Samsung keep releasing new versions of froyo like they kept doing with elcair and they will get better and better but for now.. Im seriously thinking of heading back to eclair.
I dont know how the hell the samsung company can t make a froyo that has no bug or problem, and the guys from htc did that with no problem. I have a htc desire with froyo updated via ota and i have no problem very fast and stable.

better focus, better compression settings, resulting in higher quality, sharper images
......although vignette still takes images at twice the quality with less noise, (tradeoff being the very slow speed)

As experienced in the Accessorie section, loud noise limitation are more likely hardware related.
There's a workaround (external microphone) wich will give you results way ahead of any phones (original's mic)
Slow exchange gmail
Hi
After my update to froyo my exchange email has become very very slow.
CPU is using more than 40 o/o to run the gmail app. ( no sync.)
Anybody els facing the same problem ?
Hi
I installed JPA ... and I must confess that's the worst experience I ever had with a FW.
I can't count anymore the number of FC and the lag has reach some level never reached before.
The mail is so laggy that once ... after waiting for the refresh I tried to go back ... .nothing .... nothing ... and my account was gone. I had to recreate it.
I installed the DOCRambone 7.6.rom and the lagfix no RFS + ext4 and it doens't really change my feeling about the lag. For instance when I open my mail it takes few second to appear and when it appears it is forzen for 5 to 10 sec more ( I can open a mail , I can scroll the folder bar on the top ...)
I didn't try yet the GPS , I installed cardio trainer so next time I run I will do a quick test. I don't know why but I'm pretty sure it won't be nice to see

I am running oclf ver. 2.3.0. On another note. I am also running setcpu now. Placing the min speed at 1000 and forcing the cpu to run constantly at 1ghz, which brought my quadrant to just over 1700. I dont run it like that constantly but when i do you can definatly tell the difference. I would love to find a custom rom or at least get gingerbread on the p1010. Luckly i can get my rom flashing fix on my nexus s.
i did the same tonight (5-20-2011) Z4root, OCLF (dont know version). went from 1000+ straight to 1600+. Played with setcpu and got a 1942 out of it (@1000MHz.) Went back a bit to Min at 600MHz and this device is an all new machine (around 1550+). Everything is snappy. No laggy BS. Click Click Boom. LOL. What depends on me keeping it now is the support this wifi only device is gonna get from the mods/community. Cause i really dont wanna fork over the extra for a less protable Xoom(599.99+) when i could buy *almost* two of these (299.99+.)

I feel the same exactly. I got this mostly to use at school and get all my readings on it, which are mostly PDF. I think a much bigger screen would make it almost a pain to lug around, and my laptop has an even bigger screen than a Xoom, but was actually a lot cheaper. So I really like the size and feel, but some custom roms would make this a MILLION times better. And as a student there is no way I could possibly convince my wife to let me buy anything better. haha
I'll chime in. I just rooted using super one click v1.9. It was done in about 90 seconds and I wasn't sure it worked but sure enough, there was a new super user app on it and I got an adb shell up with access to the apk's. Success. I then ran the one click lag fix v2.2 which increased my quadrant score from 780 to 1600 (!). However, I don't have haptic feedback any more. I can live without it for my application (car stereo/navigation replacement). I'm not sure which operation caused it though...

What do you expect? At least you should install the 0013d/2708 combo to get additional 15MB RAM, otherwise Gingerbread ROMs will be slow, especially when you enable swap. If you would like to try out a GB ROM on your G1 you should go with ezGingerbread or one of it's variants. Just my 2 cents.
i might get rid of the g1. I saw on youtube peoples were running fast but mine is unusable except to text and make calls and even those apps are slow.

Have you tried updating your SPL/radio and ROM? Froyo ROM is pretty fast.
the phone is posted for 10 times .
and I find that the cyanogenmod 5 is very fast .
you can try.
the android system is 2.1 .
well if you have the time you could solve your problem quite easy.
root, change firmware and radio, and install a newer and tweaked rom like Laszlos' rom or froyo for trout. these are quite reliable.
This phone really isnt slow. It all depends on a persons needs as a cellphone user. For me its perfect. I dont play games, or run ram intensive apps. I thought about Laszlos ROM, but end up not using it. Don't know why.
Anyone still experiencing lag after root?
I am on ATT LTE.. And after root with adw launcher ex...
I froze all the bloatware...and still feels a little laggy...
I am used to ipad 2 smooth... And still no bell dump for our LTE units....
Man.. I like the weight of it and size... But the lag and no dev... Really sucking...
I think HC just plain sucks. But dont know if ICS will be smoother....
believe you me that ICS will be a lot smoother.
its showing in the alphas already.
that being said it sucks bad that there are no LTE devs around. hope someone capable picks up the device and starts working on it.
Yeah... But we are at the mercy of att and samsung updates.... Which their track record is... I say 9 months from now... Even the samsung galaxy 2 which is their most popular phone still havent gotten an update... While xoom already got ICS... Maybe because google bought motorola......
I've had no lag. Did you root with the oc kernel? Have you tried other launchers?

Xoom got the update because the US WIFI only Xoom is GED.
What does GED mean. I didnt use oc kernel since i have to wipe the whole thing. I dont know how to do a complete back up.. I am waiting for a bell dump so i can turn it into a wifi hotspot.. Then maybe i will do a wipe and hopefully will have oc in a bell rom.....
