[Q] P1010 Custom Roms / Root - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the GT-P1010
Is there a Root exploit for this yet?
Do ROMs from the P1000 work in any way, shape or form?

hi,
the roms for p1000 doesnt work. there are other hardware components at p1010

has anyone rooted a gt-p1010 using z4root?
what method has someone tried?

I rooted my p1010 last night with z4root and everything went fine. I also ran oneclicklagfix and bumped my quadrant score from 700 up to 1500. I am very pleased with the results

What oneclicklagfix version did you use???

I am running oclf ver. 2.3.0. On another note. I am also running setcpu now. Placing the min speed at 1000 and forcing the cpu to run constantly at 1ghz, which brought my quadrant to just over 1700. I dont run it like that constantly but when i do you can definatly tell the difference. I would love to find a custom rom or at least get gingerbread on the p1010. Luckly i can get my rom flashing fix on my nexus s.

i did the same tonight (5-20-2011) Z4root, OCLF (dont know version). went from 1000+ straight to 1600+. Played with setcpu and got a 1942 out of it (@1000MHz.) Went back a bit to Min at 600MHz and this device is an all new machine (around 1550+). Everything is snappy. No laggy BS. Click Click Boom. LOL. What depends on me keeping it now is the support this wifi only device is gonna get from the mods/community. Cause i really dont wanna fork over the extra for a less protable Xoom(599.99+) when i could buy *almost* two of these (299.99+.)

I feel the same exactly. I got this mostly to use at school and get all my readings on it, which are mostly PDF. I think a much bigger screen would make it almost a pain to lug around, and my laptop has an even bigger screen than a Xoom, but was actually a lot cheaper. So I really like the size and feel, but some custom roms would make this a MILLION times better. And as a student there is no way I could possibly convince my wife to let me buy anything better. haha

I'll chime in. I just rooted using super one click v1.9. It was done in about 90 seconds and I wasn't sure it worked but sure enough, there was a new super user app on it and I got an adb shell up with access to the apk's. Success. I then ran the one click lag fix v2.2 which increased my quadrant score from 780 to 1600 (!). However, I don't have haptic feedback any more. I can live without it for my application (car stereo/navigation replacement). I'm not sure which operation caused it though...

Which car nav are you running?

Thanks for that info. Just bought a new p1010 for £225, but was worried I wouldn't be able to root it.
I didn't think about Z4root, as it didn't work on my galaxy s. But pleased to say it's worked fine on the tab. Well happy with my little tab, already love it.

I just installed the OCLF V2.3.0, but it won't let me install the OneClickLagFix V2.2+. It says "You do not have a /system/bin/playlogos1 / /system/bin/playlogos file!" . Did any of you get this issue??? Thanks

I'd wait til CM6 becomes final. 2.1 IMO just doesn't run well enough on G1's hardware. The speed is there, but apps get killed too easily for memory.

Well, I couldn't run Pandora and then check my email and do gchat. Pandora would shut off when I try to do other things. Didn't have SWAP set up. Didn't have this issue with 1.6.

There is a lot of good custom ROMs. Go check The Rom Bible and look at the ratings of every ROM there. You will find something good.
And I agree that Eclair is usable, but not to fast. You have to set up a swap partition to run it good enough to be a daily driver. However, you will not find as fast 2.1 ROM as stock Donut. G1 has too little RAM memory (processor is good enough). But something for something - if you once see 2.1 ROM you won't want to go back, trust me .
If you're looking for speed - check Dwang, it's very good.
BUT! Very much depends how your son will use the phone. If his gonna do a lot of multitasking and play with the phone 24/7 then he should stay on 1.6 or start reading how to really set up an Eclair ROM to run smooth. If he is really casual user then almost every ROM will be OK for him.

2.1 sucks for multitasking. My widgets update 5 minutes late on average and sometimes they never do and I have to open the app to get them to update. Horrible.

that problem went away for me as soon as I ditched all Widgets that required a background dedicated service.. rather than just using the widget API to update from application data.

Interesting.
If he's anything like my son, he'll be using the phone for messaging. I would definitely avoid Eclair and Froyo for now. No need to root it - stock 1.6 is fine for most everyday purposes. If he starts to want to install tons of apps, then you can root and start investigating your options.
lol that happened to me my first day having the phone >.<

Wow, that's one MOTHER****** of a long sentence.
You should flash the DOC_KALPIK FROYO JP6/JM6 V6 custom ROM. This ROM is the best I have tried so far. Instructions are on the 2nd or 3rd post and follow them to the letter!
Major credit to Docrambone and Kalpik.
You'll thank me later!
FroYo sucks bigtime for me as well. I've got a fresh jp6 with voodoo and everything still seems slower than jf3 with voodoo. Especially the browsing.. Samsung messed it up, again.

Well benchmark results of oclf are way higher than the ones of voodoo. But voodoo fixes the things u really use. Benchmark is just a stress test 4 ur phone but its far away from really using ur phone.
Did u check repartition while flashing? Coz what ur telling sounds like there is some bad software running in the background. And belive me i know what im talking about i had to do factory reset today after trying to download galerians rom for psx (downloaded @ rombuddy psx) and i wasnt able to locate the malicous file on my phone.
Im on jpm with voodoo and it works perfectly. Psx4droid and all.the gameloft games (asphalt hd, nova and gangsters) are running without problems. Just some psx roms are not but thats problem of the rom amd not froyo.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
so jpm runs more smoothly even with a lower quad rating and yes i repartitioned and lost like a 100 and something apps lol i will try jpm for a bit then see how that runs if its not great ill try the custom jp6 see how that runs. last time i installed jpm after jp3 using "JPM_JPM_U_JPM" as pda it worked but is this the right way.
thnx for your replys
Yes it runns more smothely (in my oppinion) but still ive put voodoo on coz there is some lagging. And jp6 isnt really different from jpm (at least I cant feal any difference between em)
@phandroid
There is a fix for the browser coz samsung really did mess up with that. Just search the forum for froyo browser fix
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I reckon reason why froyo is slow for some is that Samsung put in extra bull**** startup process's. Hence giving you less ram. Disable them with startup manager and install 336meg free ram kernel as froyo comes standard now with only 300 megs readable. Also I am seeing lag after installing jfs lag fix via the universal lag fix kernel. Starting to think all lag fixes screw up after a week. Prob due to fragmentation. I have to reformat every 3 weeks due to data corruption with lag fixes. But without a affix the damned phone is slow as a freakin Nokia phone. Screw you Samsung
Sent from my GT-I9000
Yeah it's a shame that Samsung is able to deliver such great hardware but screw up such a great operating system.
Too bad voodoo won't work with the 340 MB kernel...
Well, let's just hope for another FroYo release.

I don't recall Samsung EVER saying that, and that sounds like an assumption.
And forget about quadrant. It doesn't test realistic workloads. You might have a I/O write speed of 6gb/sec, a read speed of only 1mb/s, and for all we know, Quadrant might treat them equally (even though the phone might barely perform any writing at all). Use it as a guide, but unless you know EXACTLY how it tests the hardware, and the workloads you need, the results can be deceptive.
Also, I messed around with an iPhone 4 2 weeks ago and it was laggier than my SGS even without lagfix in JPM. Sure the scrolling was smoother, but switching between apps was a joke.
Give JPO a try, and wait for stock mods. But personally, I recommend against using filesystem conversion mods.
The ram is a problem for some people I guess, but I'd imagine it depends on what you are using your phone for..

[Q] Feature seems to be missing.

Hi, there!
Before I get started here, let me apologize if this subject has been covered before. I can't seem to get the forum keyword search function to return any results--at all- and I don't have time to read pages and pages of threads to find what I'm looking for. If there is a better place for this, please let me know.
I'm new to the Nook Color, and I'm running CM7 nightly release from 07/02/11. I love it, but I have some questions and a comment.
When the app drawer is open and you long-press an icon, it used to put a shortcut to that app on the homescreen. now it brings up this weird little submenu... What exactly does, "Choose Catalog", mean and what does it do for us? I REALLY miss that long-press to add shortcut to homescreen thing. Is there a setting that I can change to re-enable it?
Is there a specific thread to use to give feedback and ask questions about the nightlies' that is for the Nook Color only? I saw one for the nightlies, but it seemed that it was mostly irrelevent to us since all manner of devices--includung phones-- were being discussed.
I've just been using the CM7 nightly releases with Google Apps installed. Am I missing something by not installing Dalingrin's clockwork mod kernel? I was afraid that it was a replacement--not an addition-- for the CM7 nightly build. Should I install it? I'm sure I'd like to overclock my Nook to over a gigahertz, but I wouldn't like losing the stability and fumctionality of the nightly build I'm using.
Thanks in advance for any assistance y'all can offer.
Looks like the launcher is sorta corrupt. Try a different launcher that will work. Go Launcher EX (free) on the Market. Launcher Pro Plus is the best I think but it costs a little amount. Oh, but if you want to really stick with the stock launcher, go into Settings>Applications>All>ADW Launcher. And uninstall it. Then re-flash CM7 Nightly + Gapps and it should be restored.
First... on the launcher screen... use menu... more.... make sure homescreen is not locked.... Then it will do as you're used to regarding placing on launcher screen.
Actually... you don't have to unlock desktop... just wiggle finger when the menu you are talking about is up.... you will have to unlock desktop to move the item or delete it if you want.
Now I will edit this to answer more... just wanted it posted before you did anything as drastic as replacing or reinstalling your launcher...
The CM7 user thread in the Nook Color section is a great place for discussing all things NookColor CM7 related.
What the catalog does is....
You can place apps in a catalog... then when you're in app drawer then the left and right app launcher buttons turn to < >... use them to move between catalogs... ALL apps will still show everything... but in each catalog will show only the apps you add to it... so you can create a catalog called "Utils" and place all the Nook Color and CM7 utilities in it... scroll to is and ONLY those apps will show on the screen.
As for Dalingrin's OC kernel... if you're not using it and his NookTweaks... you are TRULY missing out... STRONGLY encouraged to use them.
Oh and don't OC past 1.2 GHz in NookTweaks.... it will give you SOD every hour.
Thanks for the quick response. I didn't know about the long-press-and-wiggle technique, and it worked like a champ.
Do I have to start over to install Dalingrin's mod? Does it replace this operating system entirely?

That is a pretty dumb blanket statement especially when there is a percentage of users who have hit 1.3GHz and higher without getting a sod. I get them less then once a day. I used to get them as often when I was at 1.2GHz. So please don't misinform people

Well, when I went any higher than 1.2 GHz, I got sod every other hour. When I clocked up to 1600 Mhz, the thing got SOD like every 5 minutes.
EDIT: @PoisonWolf, do you know how to get up to 1.6 GHz no SOD? I would love to be faster than the Flyer... which is double the price.
C'mon, people. We provide feedback based on our own experiences and it's not always 100% true but still, no need to use harsh words to correct the mis-info. Be nice and together we can build a strong community.
Anyway, even though I'm using Dalingrin OC 063001 version and nookcolortweak installed, I cannot ever seen any option to overclock greater 1200MHz, how do you guy get up to 1.3GHz, left alone 1.6GHz? What kernel do you use?

Well, to be able to get up to 1.6ghz, that is really the luck of the draw. I would gather that the manufacturing process is not perfect and not all chips can achieve such speeds. If anything, I would imagine there to be a range on the "limits" of these chips.
I found out that mine was 1350 mhz. No matter what I did, anything higher than that resulted in clunky responses, choking, skipping, etc.
I was hoping I'd get something in the 1.5 ghz range, but ah well.
Thus, I now run it at 1.3 ghz ondemand!
Just tinker around with the combinations / voltages / governors to see what your true limitation is. While you are doing this, do NOT set anything ON BOOT.

Most Nooks go around 1.200-1.300mhz.Some few lucky can go a bit more.

Goodbye Nooksters!

I've had a lot of fun with my Nook, and have made all my friends envious. But the thing that dampened my enthusiasm is the poor battery life. I am running CM7 off of a micro SD card, and I swear, I have to fully charge this thing every other day ... and that's with minimal usage.
I also found the screen size kind of tiring for any lengthy forays to the Internet, and was constantly hitting the wrong links on pages because the text type is so small (yes, I did frequently zoom in when I had to).
Well, I've been sitting on the fence about buying a 10-inch Honeycomb tablet, and doing a lot of research in the meanwhile.
But today I got the push I needed when I opened up my email and received a $100-off coupon for any tablet at Staples. So, I hopped in my car and picked myself up a shiny new Samsung Galaxy 10.1. Have only played with it for a few minutes and it's a lot different than my Nook, so I've got some learning to do.
Meanwhile, my girlfriend is going to be pretty excited when she finds out I am giving her my NC. She's been bugging me for one ever since I got mine. But I may take the SD card out and let her use it stock. She's still have Internet and email access, but the battery life should be a lot better.
Thanks to everyone on these boards who have helped me with my questions.
Everyone has their own preference on screen size (7" is perfect for my needs, 10.1" would annoy the hell out of me), but if you expect better battery life with another device...well, good luck with that. =)
Rodney
1. compare the Galaxy to the NC is apple to pineapple.
2. 10" is bigger than 7" for sure but the trade off is the weight. Can't use it to read when laying out bed
3. Imaging if the NC has $100 off, B&N will burn their stockroom quick.
Anyway, enjoy your Honeycomb tablet.
Oh, btw, I personally think you g/f will jump up/down asking you to give her the Galaxy
You had a good run. Good luck! Personally, 7" is about right for me for something I commute with. Battery life has been fine but I have CM7 on the eMMC so perhaps that makes a difference.
You've probably heard it before, but if you're still using the last stable version, cm 7.0.3, update (for your gf ) to the 7.1 RC1 or Nightly 136. With deep sleep fixed, I've gotten as much as six days of light use out of my NC.
If you're using verygreen's SD image, you'll need an update for that, too, toward the bottom of his OP in that thread.
I'll never understand the point of people that put up threads saying they've decided to with another product.
Fine, the Nook didn't work out for you and you found something better for your tablet needs. But honestly why do I care? I just don't get it.

Anyway, enjoy your Honeycomb tablet.

Thank you, I hope to. Yes, I understand that no tablet is going to be all things to all people. I'm sure my gf will love the NC.

You had a good run. Good luck! Personally, 7" is about right for me for something I commute with. Battery life has been fine but I have CM7 on the eMMC so perhaps that makes a difference.

Thank you. My days with the NC are not over ... I'm sure my gf will be asking for my assistance on a regular basis.

If you'll be sticking with CM7, do her a favor and put the latest nightly on it. Dalingrin's OC kernel is included now and deep sleep has been fixed since the last stable release.
Nook's size is perfect for me. Battery life hasn't been a problem. The only thing missing for me (and I really mean the only thing, since I'm not looking for a tablet as a laptop replacement) is a means to make Skype calls. We're close with the partially functioning usb, but not there yet.

I also found the screen size kind of tiring for any lengthy forays to the Internet, and was constantly hitting the wrong links on pages because the text type is so small (yes, I did frequently zoom in when I had to)

Bumping up the resolution to 200 or 220 will fix these problems. I'd do this before giving a Nook to anyone. There is a free app in the Market called LCD Density that will do this temporarily. To change the resolution permanently is only a small modification of the build.prop file. EX File Explorer, also free in the Market, will allow you to do that. There are many threads on XDA that will tell you how.

Dalingrin's OC kernel was rolled in as of n132 - all subsequent builds have it, including n138.
FWIW, my battery life is every bit as good with the latest nightlies as stock, if not better.

Wait, why wouldn't the people who put out the various roms already account for that? MIUI 1.7.15.1 is set to 240.

you should have waited few months and spend same money for quad core ICS with higher res screen. or at least wait couple months for honeycomb dual core omap 44xx like archos g9. in any event overclock the tegra2 and you're probably going to find battery life not much better than cm7 nook color. good luck to you.

Because it's a matter of preference? I have no problem with the NC's default density.
ETA: and a lot of people like a density right around 187, which makes everything a bit bigger without screwing up the status bar, widgets, layouts etc.

g1 to slow

I know the phone is old but its really unusable. Its so slow even the time is about 8 mins slow. I restarted the phone but after an hour the time keeps going back 8 mins. Using apps are really slow.
I am using cyanogenmod 7.1.0
Its just to old bro, like an old dog. I sold mine for like $50 and 3 J's hahaha

What do you expect? At least you should install the 0013d/2708 combo to get additional 15MB RAM, otherwise Gingerbread ROMs will be slow, especially when you enable swap. If you would like to try out a GB ROM on your G1 you should go with ezGingerbread or one of it's variants. Just my 2 cents.
i might get rid of the g1. I saw on youtube peoples were running fast but mine is unusable except to text and make calls and even those apps are slow.

Have you tried updating your SPL/radio and ROM? Froyo ROM is pretty fast.
the phone is posted for 10 times .
and I find that the cyanogenmod 5 is very fast .
you can try.
the android system is 2.1 .
well if you have the time you could solve your problem quite easy.
root, change firmware and radio, and install a newer and tweaked rom like Laszlos' rom or froyo for trout. these are quite reliable.
This phone really isnt slow. It all depends on a persons needs as a cellphone user. For me its perfect. I dont play games, or run ram intensive apps. As long as i can make a call, send text/mms and browse the web every once in a while im a happy camper. Not to mention Laszlos Rom is so fast, i feel like im on a newer device anyway.

yep. its fully enough for me as well. now that theres DreamTeams' Froyo 2.2.2. based ROM, it even more snappy and fast than was with Laszlos' ROM, except there's not yet notification powercontrol and reboot option at Longpress-Powerbutton, but they are working on it.
so should one do nandroid backup and try that mod as well!

Blazingly fast for me. I also use it to play games that are power hunger, but it does not even slow down as much as I thought.
I am using Froyo Melt latest version (AKA: DreamTeam 2.2.2 : Same build with mod)

for some reason both of those Roms we're acting up for me ... I think you were in that thread BeenAndroidized.. Froyo Melt had tons of FC issues for me. DreamTeams Froyo worked great, except when i imported contacts from SIM or Sdcard they would not show up on contact list, but they would show up in text message app..very weird. So Laszlos for me right now lol
I also enjoy the features Laszlos has like Magpie and overclocking built in. Makes my life easier lol

I am in both threads, both Dreamteam and Froyo Melt ROMs has the same build. I am not sure why you have a lot of FCs. I have not had that issue there.
With the import from SIM card, I do not know what to tell you.
