Hi all,
When I purged my Stock ATT apps, I forgot to backup ATT Navigator. The link to the stock app dump is broken, does anyone have a new one, or can someone post ATTNav-Samsung-Vega-1488.apk?
Thanks,
Justin

Thanks!!
Am wondering, why people would pay to use this when google nav is out for free? Is paying for a navigator make it that much better?

For the simple line of reasoning that is, there is a sucker for everything.
that is like saying why buy bottle of water when you can get it from fountain for free!
1 thing i dont like about google navigation, when on freeway, it will says "exit 24", "exit 88". just give me the name! Exit Gold Ave, or Exit Cappy Blvd instead!

I was wondering if anyone has used or tried Google Navigator? The verison i have keeps crashing and i wanted to see if anyone knows of where i can get the new verison for it at? To me when its working its alot better than google maps. Just wanting to get it working.
Is there any way to "pre-download" maps for someone not on a data plan? I would love this!

You could possibly share with someone that has the maps already downloaded
Google Navigator v. 3.8
Yes, I purchased google navigator several weeks. I think it's up to version 3.8 now, which is pretty good and becoming more stable. It can be purchased here - http://www.pdafun.net/buy.htm
dealwagon,
As far as "pre-downloading" maps for offline use., that's a no go and not an option for Google Navigator. Your best bet is using Tom Tom, iGo, Garmin, etc, that uses phone's internal gps. You may want to check this out though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340667
Google Navigator 4.2
WARNING:
NO WAREZ OR WAREZ OFFERS!
THIS IS YOUR FIRST WARNING AND IVE SEEN YOU ASKING FOR V4.2
STOP ASKING/OFFERING OR I WILL BAN YOU FOR A COUPLE DAYS
4.3 is out and about and yes I have it....... Its hard to believe but.... I actually have a legitimate copy which I paid for!! My new GPS antenna for the Kaiser should be here tommorrow or Saturday. I am getting 7-8 satellites right now, but hope to improve it with a external antenna..........
I got hooked on the Google Navigator when the guy I bought the phone off of sent me a DVD with 4.3 gigs of applications on it for the Kaiser
Guys if you have to purchase this software I wouldn't mention sharing stuff on here because that might be considered warez and will get you the banhammer from the mods.
I tried searching but couldn't find an answer quite simply I'm looking for the best free gps/nav out there. It has to be free tho.
free?
Google Maps - this is the only FREE software, though to use it you must be a subscriber of a data plan.
Google Amaze GPS. It is free and is pretty good, with spoken directions.

Not entirely true. Google Maps is the best working "out of box" free navigation, but take a look at the navit thread.

amaze gps is great. but you do need a data plan.
As far as I'm concerned, these are the three best GPS solutions (best is first):
1) Tomtom
2) AmazeGPS
3) Google Maps
And luckily, only Tomtom is priced. AmazeGPS is free and Google Maps will come with most phones by default.
I swear I'm not navit's PR guy

I'm pretty sure that with a little work, navit could do the job just as nicely as TomTom. I just can't figure out the XML file config for the raphael. Once someone does that, I think it could easily replace anything else as primary usage.

*Looks up Navit*
Er, sorry, but I disagree.
On the other hand, it does look somewhat better than AmazeGPS/Google Maps, so yeah, Navit would probably be better for someone who needs a free GPS solution. The idea of editing an XML file to change settings, however, seems kind of ridiculous, but the developers did say that it is early and usability has been put off to the side, so I guess it can't be helped.

Meh...to each their own. I'm attempting to create a working XML file in that aforementioned forum thread, post #7.
i run TomTom on my Touch Pro. Its fantastic! takes up just under 1gb on the memory card and runs flawlessly. It also looks brilliant on the TP screen. just gorgeous.
SideNote: On a side note, i highly recommend something NOT requiring an internet connection. I was recently road-tripping through Wyoming on the way to Montana, and my sprint connection was dodgy at best. google maps would have been worthless. TomTom worked like a champ
just my 2 cents. Cheers!
Hi all, I notice with Modaco's ROMs, WaveSecure comes pre-installed. Went to the website and it seems useful, but has anyone here paid the $20 for a year subscription? What are the main, useful features? I haven't been able to tell that much from the website.
Thanks.
Do a search. Numerous threads on this.
personally i dont use wave secure, i use mobile defense. they are both great, but i use mobile defense as its free. i wish modaco ROM hadd a way to uninstall wave secure, because since i dont have an account, yet it pops up every reboot asking me to login. and i cant get rid of it!!
mobile defense lets you track your phone as well and it works great.

Just download the prebake without the default MoDaCo additions. Usually the last prebake option. You only lose this: Spare Parts, Titanium Backup, WaveSecure, WiFi Status Indicator. Any of which you can install later.

Anyone know where to get mobile defense? No longer available in the market

Has anyone given the AT&T apps a good try to see if any of them are good to keep?
I see instructions out there on how to wipe AT&T off of our phone, but haven't seen anybody comment on why they're wiping the apps off besides to "get rid of the AT&T apps".
I'm just wondering if there might not be one or two of the included apps that are actually worthwhile to keep.
I know one I won't be sorry to delete is the mobiTV one. I loaded it up to the welcome screen then had to step away for a couple minutes. When I came back it kindly told me my 2 minute trial was up... LOL nice! So yeah, unless it really is an incredible piece of software worth buying I'll be dumping that one at least.
Many if not all require additional fees and subscriptions, despite free alternatives.
For example, the AT&T navigator app is $10 a month, but Google Maps is free.
There's also the matter of principle... the fact that AT&T made them non-removable is a compelling reason to get rid of them.
The only at&t app worth using is the att my wireless app that you can down load from the market place. It lets you keep track of your minutes usage, data usage, and change your plan.

I agree. Funny thing is, that's the only app AT&T didn't preinstall on the phone IIRC. I guess they expect you to pay money for their crappy services by default (or by mistaken clicks), but don't want you to have a way to track it so easily.

You just staited my two primary reasons.
It is disgusting that AT&T forcefully occupies space on lesser phones with pay apps. Just appalling.
Well ok then, looks like I'll be clearing them all off! lol

I'm not sure if it's an AT&T app, but the music player that comes on our phone is awesome!
I even started a thread asking if there was a way we could extract it or reinstall it after flashing a different rom. Hah. I like it.

This is a Samsung app. We'll get it in new ROMS.
Look at about 1:05 on this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3QwvMsBGjE
Yeah I have to say that music app is pretty nice.
Although I just installed one called "Moodagent" that is kind of neat. Haven't had a chance to fully explore it, but it appears to have quite a few features along with the main interface that's a bit gimicky, but cool. It has sliders that you adjust up or down (Sensual, Tender, Happy, Angry, Tempo) and it adjusts the playlist according to the levels you set. Probably old news to everyone else but interesting to me!
everything that is labeled att_nameofprogram is pretty much useless. the other programs like allshare or instant messaging may still be usefull.
Allshare
If you interest in using DLNA, the Allshare app may be a good one to keep. Although, I have one major problem with it: you can only add 1 song at a time to the Queue. What a pain.
But I haven't found any good alternatives yet.
I opened the 'Where' app, and (stupidly) breezed past some part about a monthly charge if I don't cancel. Has anyone else run into this? And if so, do you know how to cancel?
"Where" does AT&T get the idea they can charge for this?
You probably want to call AT&T ASAP to make sure you don't get charged for using the Where app. Also, stop using the included one and download the free one!
Funny story about the Where app:
I had a Nexus One and saw that Where was on a lot of "best app" lists for Android so I went to the market to get it. It was nowhere to be found. After a bit of research, I found some vague explanation about how AT&T had a deal with Where and that they blocked it. This really pissed me off since I paid full price for the N1 with no subsidy from AT&T -- how dare they block apps? Anyway, I found the APK online and installed it.
Later, I rooted my phone and installed the MarketAccess app. Now I could find Where in the Market and installed it from there -- still free of course. When I got the Captivate, the first thing I did was root it. When I saw that Where was pre-installed, I thought "great, now I don't have to jump through hoops to get it." Luckily I saw the warning about being charged, what, $2.99/month to use an app that is free for every user of every other Android phone? I promptly used Titanium Backup to remove the pre-installed version and then used MarketAccess to download the free version from the Market.
The point is that AT&T is really trying hard to charge extra for things that every other Android user gets for free (maps, navigation, Where, etc). Very frustrating. My employer pays for the service on my Captivate and I will be moving my wife's phone (that I pay for) to the Epic 4G at the end of this month after being an AT&T customer for 7 years.
What about AT&T Hot Spots?
I visit Starbucks frequently and occasionally McDonalds. Both offer free WiFi, but require you to check a box and click a button to agree to terms before using it. I know that's not a big deal, but it is a little bit of a hassle especially if I am not planning to use the browser anyway -- I just want to go straight into another app that uses WiFi.
Since I got the Captivate, I've noticed that as soon as I turn on WiFi while at either of these places, I get a notification that says "AT&T Hotspot Detected" or something like that and I am able to use WiFi without having to visit the agreement page in the browser.
Does anyone know whether this app is required for this detection and agreement bypass to function? I have thought about making a backup with Ti Backup, uninstalling, and testing it but am worried that it might not reinstall properly. Also, it might be handy for finding hotspots when traveling -- making it the only useful AT&T pre-installed app.
ATT wifi hotspot app seems to be useful to connect to Attwifi hotspots without having to manually agree to terms
does anyone have a copy of it ?

I have it and will try to make a backup and post it within the next couple of days. It might be Monday before I can do it, unless someone else beats me to the punch.
Update: I still have it on my phone, but it seems that Titaniun Backup only backs up the data, not the APK. I also tried Mybackup Pro with the same result. I have root, so if someone knows how to extract a system app as an APK please let me know. I haven't searched yet, BTW, so if I find out how to do this myself I'll update this post (again).

I swear they are only doing that to mess with us. While it's not hard to completely remove all AT&T ware, it's fairly simple to hide the apps with LauncherPro.

Here is the APK (zipped). I'm not sure whether you can just install it like any other APK or if you have to use adb to push it to /system/app. If you try it please let me know what worked (if it works).

Hello everyone
I just switched from the Epic 4g to the One. Unfortunately when I went to try to put Telenav GPS on the phone, the playstore said it was not compatible. Has anyone successfully added it to their phone and if so, could you point me in the direction of the correct APK?
Thanks in advance and looking forward to learning more about the One from all of you.
The Telenav GPS program is now called Scout. It is available in the Play Store, but should already be on your phone.
Really? Thanks I will check it out.
I would just use Google's navigation application. Telenav is not really any better and you have to pay for the premium version.
