JPO vs JPA - What's different? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

JPO vs JPA...two official ROM the same day with similar Build.time, but what are the difference between this two firmware?
Could be interesting to post here your feeling about what is different, in order to understand which is the best firmware to flash....

JPA is XEE and JPO is XEU. diffrent regions.

I did not already try them, but as far as i can read the jpo is smoother.
However, as you are italian, you should flash jpo.

i really really doubt theres any diffrence is speed.. maybe becasue one of them have more apps installed etc. its same base on both.. JPP

Samsun Letter Code table on samfirmware.com say:
(JPA) XEE = Sweden
(JPO) XEU = Great Britain
But why is JPA about 20 MB greater than JPO ?
Regards

JPA Quadrant score no lagfix = 957
JPA Quadrant score voodoo lagfix = 1234
JPO Quadrant score no lagfix = 976
JPO Quadrant score voodoo lagfix = 1596
on my device after titanium backup restore

Apparently the quadrant score is lower than jm9 with voodoo.. This is weird

How do you lagfix?
Are you replacing the kernel with the JPM kernel?
So the kernel contains the low level system and drivers right?
So you then have the old version again but with new versions of the apps right?
I would like the same new kernel if I lagfix.

Use oclf lag fix from the market. It's safe and effective. Does not require to downgrade your kernel.

But OCLF is not ext4. Or has that changed?

Can somebody please list the Swype languages from both ROMS?

Languages of JPO
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8911297&postcount=34

Ok thnx, there is no Slovenian in Swype
Can somebody check if its there in JPA or even better, post such screenshots.

I personally feel JPO is a logical descendant of the latest thread of development. JPC->JPH->JPK->JPM->JPO.
The other lineage could be from an earlier branch of FroYo development.
Correct me if I am wrong.

This is from XWJPA:

JPA hast swype 2.6... and JPO has 2.1 installed. So I ask myself which other new versions are there too?

[Q] Question about roms and cf-root

I am new to the android world, and reading about what to do with my shiny new Galaxy.
I read about roms, JPa, JPM, JP6 and so on. What is the difference between all of these roms, and why should one use these, rather than the official Samsung versions?
Next, I read about applying cf-root kernels. What is the benefit of this?
If there is a nice peace of reading on this, I would be greatfull.
Thx.
All Rom tweak the sgs in there own way. Some don't like how sgs is and changed that.
There also custom kernels.
This is often to speed up the sgs.
They can tweak some settings or converting the filesystem to a better one.
I do preferred original firmware with a custom kernel.
I use my own kernel and use ext2 filesystem to make the phone fast.
Sent from GT-I9000 jpo. My own kernel for z4mod and with 342MB Ram
Pretty much as DamianGto said its a personal choice i also go for stock firmware jpa in my case from samfirmware with cf root kernel. Custom kernels do various things from spead tweaks to colour adjustments. I'm running stock jpa with cf root kernel this gives you root with 2e recovery then i just used oclf from the market for the lagfix had this combo for a while and works perfect.
I would stay away from cf-root kernel. Its way to big and a bad way to root.
Oclf was good, but its an old way to lagfix. You should use a kernel isteed. Its smother and all is faster.

Thank you.
I'm not sure what is the firmware and the kernel. And not yet sure what all those different jpm, jpa, jpk, jp6 versions mean and do.
Furthermore:
I have flashed froyo, using odin, with the JPM version.
Now I found out that I have that gps problem too. The default *#*#1472365#*#* option does not work on my sgs. Any sugestion on this?
Ho.
Jpm is not the latest firmware.
In froyo you use this *#3214789650#

hello, i want to flash my sgs to froyo, i am looking in the custom roms do you guys recommend any custom roms or kernels... i dont want to use the stock ones cuz i know there is always something you dont need and you dont use...
Do you think is better to use OCLF or voodoo with ext4?
thanks!
Well its a personal taste what you use.
I only use my own kernel to speed up the system and get more memory. The rest i use mod i se and like. I have not seen any rom that have things s want.
Oclf is old and you should use kernels with lagfix.
Use ext2 if you want a fast filesystem.
Sent from GT-I9000 jpo. My own kernel for z4mod and with 342MB Ram
Browse around in the android dev subforum, I'm using doc's rom, bunch of other people use darky's.
If you use a custom kernel, those usually have a lagfix inbuilt which you enable in the recovery menu, you don't need to use voodoo or OCLF on top of that. (Custom roms usually have custom kernels)

[Q] Speedmod kernal, question!

I have the Speedmod kernal installed and the lagfix with the tweaks. So i just wonder what the quadrant score should be? I now it doesn't matter but anyway.
Is something wrong if i only get 1300-1370?

Tanks! Good to know!

[Q] Anybody has the same problem?

I have asked this before but i didn't get any answer so i ask again!
When i play games who need a high end device such as a SGS it lags. The games i played and notice this problem is Shadow guardin(Gameloft), Fast five the game(Gameloft) Dungeon defender first wave and some other games such as Angry birds rio!
So my question is! Is it my phone that's broken or something like that or is it the games thats laggy overall?
My device: SGS Speed modkernal with lagfix.
Anyone????

SGS GT I9000XXJPY 2.2.1, 2.6.32.9 [email protected] # 14 (LAGFIX AND TWEAKS), FROYO .XXJPY and ADW Launcher EX.
Is that what you want?
One of the first places to start would probably be to update your Speedmod kernal.
K13E is the most current version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
To be on the safe side, you should disable the lag-fix prior to flashing.
After the flash, clear your dalvik cache, and wipe the cache partition. Might as well clear your battery stats while you're there too.

It's up to you man, it's your phone.
I'm only telling you what I would do.
You shouldn't have a problem, being that you are flashing another speedmod kernal. But you never know.
Clear dalvic after the flash as well.

Maybe there is a technical issue? But when i run the bechmark test i get pretty high score overall.
Perhaps you could try to move to a gingerbread rom.
I'm using Juwe's rom 4.2, Quadrant went from 900 on Froyo to 1500+ on GB.
I don't own those games though so I can't tell if GB helps them a lot.
Alright tanks! Now i got a lot off different options.

Was on JPY and voodoo 5.5.3 kernel and everything ran smooth, upgraded to JVB and this http://dl.project-voodoo.org/Gingerbread-GT-I9000-stock-kernel+hacks.tar and though it's still very smooth, Quadrant Advanced 1.1.6 doesn't display it's graphics properly in some sections of the test (Quadrant Standard 1.1.7 has fixed this), and Gameloft's NOVA is now unplayable with just white screens. Gameloft haven't been able to resolve the issue either.
Quadrant scores mean nothing in the real world, if gaming on your phone is a big thing to you then I'd stick with JPY and the latest voodoo kernel.
Hope this helps

CF-ROOT KERNEL VS VOODOO KERNEL . Gingerbread.

Hey . what kernel is best of this? cf root 3.2 ? or the voodoo ext4 kernel.
JVH ROM .

does the voodoo kernel you've mentioned (Gingerbread-GT-I9000-XWJVH-stock-kernel+hacks.tar dated 08-May-2011) come with a lagfix for JVH?

Voodoo over CF-Root
Can I install voodoo kernel (XXJVP) after my phone (SGS) was CF-rooted (v3.7)? Can I solve this without factory reset? I had backed up and restored all of my data before, but I'd like to try out voodoo kernel with ext4 filesystem convert, without dataloss.
It would be important, so somebody please help me!
Thx,

I think you should flash the stock JVH first.
Using JVP (2.3.4) I had bluetooth issue with CF-Root, none so far with SpeedMod.
GPS was also not so goot with CF-Root, I'm gonna see tonight with SpeedMod
Has anyone done a quantitative comparison of battery life with different kernels?
I think every kernel has his own good and bad parameters so the difference between kernels depends of what apps do u use and what do u want from kernel...
So for someone it is Voodoo! For another one it's CF-Root and so on !!!

[Q] [kernel] Galaxian quadrant score

i have stock JVP ROM and Galaxian kernel V4 installed. Other users claim to have a quadrant score above 3,000 but im just getting 2,300 on 1.4 Ghz. What could be causing this poor result?
