I need another Android phone to use here and abroad. The Acer can be bought for a pretty good price through Rogers and Fido. Was wondering if it can be unlocked now.

A relative is going to US soon and will buy a phone for me to use with GSM networks in Brazil(I dont care about using it on GSM networks in US). I could find boxed units of droid 4 for $179 on ebay, so I'm considering it due to high hardware specs with relatively low price. I also found some units of the same phone for $350 when I searched only for unlocked phones.
I've read in another thread that after flashing ICS its possible to use this phone with gsm networks outside US, my question is: Does this apply only to the $350 unlocked phones or I'm good with the $179 version of the phone? What does the $350 version has that the $179 doesn't?
Thanks in advance.
Yes but , with ICS update or Jelly bean the xt894 it's already unlocked...all xt894 was unlocked after ICS update...you'll fine if you buy the $179 just be sure it isn't damage
The US motorola site lets you purchase a Moto G (Global GSM) model at the same price of 199$ for the 16GB one.
I was wondering if its possible to buy a Moto X (XT1052) UK edition (with LTE 1800mhz) from the US at around the same price (329$).
The Moto X if bought in UK converts to around 550$ which is prohibitively high and you don't get the customization options as well.
I wouldn't say so, whoever Motorola's distributor is in the UK wouldn't be over joyed by that.
Are you in Europe or USA?

Yup, ebay. but for that price probably only used ones. Hope that helps!
Also, you could see which US versions match your bands since they're on sale for cheap for another week.

Am in Asia actually and am trying to have a friend in the USA buy it from Motomaker. And the LTE band used here is band 3 (1800), which the UK Moto X (XT1052) has.
The used UK models on ebay are double the price of a brand new US moto x. Guess I'll have to skip LTE.
I am in Ireland and to get a 32gb Dev Edition, I had to buy from the USA. I won't need LTE for probably 2 years.
Mine including shipping cost me €320
There are people in Ireland and on Ebay looking for €600 for them!!

I know there are various generations and versions of the Moto G. Do any work well with T-mobil?
yea the moto g model #xt1064 works with T-mobiles Hspa+ bands
you can get one from best buy
XT1064 here running unlocked on T-Mobile without issues. Picked it up at Sears for $133 last night. $2.60 unlock code on eBay.
Hi, guys,
I want to get your opinion.
Let's say you want to buy Samsung Galaxy S3 from eBay.
The phone is from AT&T, for example, and you are with Rogers (Canada)
So, to use this phone with Rogers you need to unlock it.
Current price (on 10-JAN-2015) to unlock S3 is about $12-14
Would you buy AT&T for, let's say, $40 and unlock it for $12. ($52 in total)
Or you will buy unlocked S3 or Rogers' S3 phone for more $$$, let's say, $55-60
Thanks
Locked/unlocked is not really a concern except for Apple devices which are unlocked through a central database.
Hi.
I've seen a Moto X xt1097 here over in the UK but I thought the XT1097 only worked on American bands (AT&T)? When I spoke to the seller he assured me it will work here?
Is this right?
I've looked into it more and the bands seem to be compatible with the UK.
Well I managed to cancel the sale before it was sent out in the post. From what I have read the XT1097 is stuck on Lollipop and didn't get an official MM release because it was carrier locked to AT&T. Also the bootloader is a pita to unlock and it costs $25 to do.
