Hello to all,
I have using my Galaxy S without SIM card for a while and now when I put one I notice a problem with volume level when making or receiving calls. The indicator show that the volume level is at maximum but I barely hear the voice when someone is talking to me, even when I am at close and not noisy room. When I put hands-free or put the call in speaker mode everything is OK - I can hear what the people are talking to me.
I search in the setting and put everything for sound in max but there is no change....
I read in the forums about the hidden service menu and I saw that there is an audio section with sections headset and handset but I don't know if this will solve my problem, because I don't know if the problem is software or hardware..
My phone is Galaxy S I9000 - international, Eclair 2.1-update1, JM1, not rooted. I make factory reset just before posting this thread and the problem is not solved....
If anybody have similar problem or anybody have a solution or ideas how to solve this, please help me!
Thanks,

From previous thread started by me:
"During calls there comes a moment that people are complaining that they cannot hear me. When i move the jog dial upwards (hence increasing volume) they say that they can hear me ok. I have not experienced this using the bluetooth headset. Maybe a hardware problem??By the way i used 5 different radios and upgraded also to 6.1."
Well here is what i did. I sent the phone to htc hellas where they replaced the mic and the earphone. Problem not solved. Then sent it to htc uk where they replaced the speaker and the main board.Problem not solved.
Suddenly today while using the bluetooth headset i observed on the phone a sudden drop on the volume indicator while speaking (different indicator from the one while not speaking). Most probably a software error (windows mobile)?
So do u think there is any registry change, tweak which can keep the indicator constant on a certain level??
By the way i have also changed tens of roms and radios but problem remains.
Thanks
cmon guys am i the only one with this problem????

Can you specify, what exactly your problem is?
This weekend, I had a speaker problem as well - when I phoned someone, I didn't hear anything, although the connection was established - after a reboot, the problem was gone...
Kind regards,

When i recieve calls in outdoor environment, the volume is very low, its difficult to hear. the volume of the earphone speakers s very low. but when we use the headset to hear music, the volume is fine.

I am making a wild guess have you installed any call recording app which is running in background, this may be the problem.
In Call Speaker Problem
Its a New Unit have not installed any applications till now. what about you people how is the volume in outdoor.
i had the same problem a few time since js5 firmware. an interesting thing is, that im using a voodoo kernel with every firmware since js5 and perhaps this causes this problem to european devices ?!...

didnt read this before posting my thoughts. but i have the same problem anyway.
hello.
is there a way to permanently boost the sound volume (in call volume) of the speaker in galaxy s ?
when a talk to people everything is fine, but it's to quiet in some situations, so i can't hear them very well.
i've found several topics about the volume boost, but none of them work permanently. they are either a script or app for ''the time of the Eclair'' so it's outdated, or boosting from service mode, which works great but it resets its self after the restart.
does anyone know some sort of the solution, or could show me the topic where it's already answered ?
i'm currently on juwe's 5.3 and semaphore 1.5.0.
thanks in advance.
come on, is it posible that there is a milion and one developer on xda forum, and nobody want's to answer my question ?

i have the same problem m8 , if u find a solution please inbox me
Try turning the phone round during a call, the speaker is on the back.
Hi!
Everytime i get or make a call i cant hear my "call-partner"...when i turn speaker on i can hear him perfect! He can hear me also perfect the whole time! When i click on Volume up it shows "Headphone volume" and the over the headphone i can my call-partner. So i guess my phone thinks the headphones are connected?! But... my media player works normally over my speakers and my phone rings, also....
pls help me out...its now almost 3 weeks, that i always have to make calls over the speaker and i flashed every possible firmware...from stock ginger to cyano to miui back to a ginger-rom and and and ....
now im on Miui, cause my phone also goes black during a call and on MIUI i can turn off my proximity sensor
somehow my phones sucks :/ but i love SGS !!
Thanks for the help!
Please help me somehow...write ideas or anything...

Maybe there is some trouble with your Headphone input detection. Have you tried to use a headphone with it? Do you have sound then?
Thanks for the answer!
Yes, when i put my headphones in, i can hear the voice of the "caller" and i can hear music....but when i put the headphones out again, i cant hear him.
So i thought, perhaps my phone thinks that there are always my headphones plugged in.... but my music player plays sound through the speakers....strange?!
whats going on?! is there a different phone.apk i could try? but i flashed many FW and nothing solved the problem...
or does an app exist here i can test my external ear speaker?!
I vaguely remember a CM7 issue wherein you had to toggle mute to trigger the voice to work on calls. I'm sure your problem is different, since it's happening across multitple firmwares, but it's food for thought.
I would have also assumed your phone was thinking headphones were plugged in when they weren't. But if music plays through the rear speaker just fine, this must not be the case.
Whatever it is, good luck!
Does nobody know a method or a app with what i can test my "Earspeaker" ?
I have the same issue with my i9000M and have been unable to determine the cause. There must be a way to completely wipe the phone and restore a stock ROM in order to reset whatever setting controls handset speaker volume.
psss... noone is looking??? it is top secter Samsung's procedure, do not share:
1. factory wipe
2. flash stock firmware
3. factory wipe
I've got this exact issue.. proximity sensor is also broken and locks up the phone. I disabled it with a patch - but my earpiece is non-functional on stock.
Ideas? Hardware defect?
[Sorry to bump.]

Use ''Equalizer'' from the market place, this is the solution to boost volume.
i can't download it from market cause it says that my country is not qualified to install or download it
so can you please provide a link for it to download and install directly?

Don't forget to hit the ''thank you'' button.
I'm not kidding, are you sure holding the phone correctly? It is not easy to put the upper speaker right on your ear since the phone is so large. Personally experienced.

Strange sound problem help.
Whenever i get a call the sound is so low i an hardly hear it. Suddenly while in the call a minute or so later the sound becomes clear and i now can hear clearly. This problem does not occur if i call up the same number. I have checked with equalizer, volume boost and others but the result is the same. I use total recall to auto record all calls could this be the culprit. The recordings are however clear both in speaker mode and headphones.
