[Q] Question regarding Dialer Pad "long tones" and how to change? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Can someone tell me how I can change my dialer from inputting "long tones" when dialing to "short tones"?
Example... When I call my bank to check my acct. balance and enter my ATM card number, it always gets read wrong because of the length of the dialer / number tone and I am never able to get it right.
My Samsung Omnia was like this as well but it had an option for either "long button press tone" or "short button press tone" and I cannot seem to find this option on my SGS.
Can anyone advise on this? Does anyone know what Im talking about?

Anyone? Does anyone know how to change this or if there is even an option to do so?

Use Dialer One (search the Market). There you set the tone interval in miliseconds (unders settings).
And believe me... You will never use the stock dialer anymore

How does this work exactly? Does it actually automatically replace the stock dialer or does it need to be started seperately everytime you make a call?
I dont mind the stcok dialed otherwise but I just wish I could figure out how to shorten the tones when dialing the phone.
This also only happens when I am already IN a call. When I make the initial call there is no actual tone sounds like a regular push button phone. It makes little "bloop" sounds instead... (Im sure you know what I mean... LOL!)

I have this same problem and it seems to happen at random, try disabling the touch tone sounds in the sound settings.

I have just tried that and I will let you know my findings. Thats kind of weird that this is the only way to do this and that there is no setting for it.

***EDIT*** Yes... This works but again it is awfully strange that there is no actual setting to switch this.

It replaces the original dialer (actually both can coexist). You just have to choose which icon to click. But I tell you. It's really a way better experience. Very customizable.

HTC dialer very very slow

Why is the HTC Dialer very very slow. When i press a number, it takes time to show on the screen. So, i cant dial a number quickly. I need to press every digit individually and wait till it shows on the screen.
Is this normal??
HELP
Hmz dunno, don't have this problem.
Turn the sounds off in the options menu in the Phone application. Set the Keypad to 'Off' and it will speed up. No sounds but much quicker!

Disabling the smart dialing option increases the speed too (especially when you have many contacts stored).
open dialer -> menu -> smart dialing options -> deactivate
Greetz,
Hans Olo
It did speed up my dialer, but still not upto the mark. Isnt there a way to make it even more faster?

Hi:
FWIW, my HTC keypad is very fast. I have both smart dialing and sounds turned on. Maybe you could try a hard reset. Is it possible that something you have installed is somehow affecting the dialers speed?
Hi dudes
I had the same problem but using your tweaks, especially disabling keypad sound, solved it. Thx
Ciao
i have same problem
but when disable sound
still slow
for those of you haveing issues still, did you ever install Vibra? Vibra was an app that allowed the user to quickly change to vibrate but use of a hardware key.
If so, this is the problem, it messes up all the sound settings which in turn causes issues with the dialer response times...
You can also try to disable the dialer theme:
[HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin]
Enabled = 0
Disabling sound solved the issue on my TyTNII, ,even with a quite huge contact database.
Thanks!

I had that problem, and that pesky program does not fix the registry even when you uninstall it. Luckily I had old registry backup and was able to look up the lines it messed with, and recover.
Gotta hate when little cabs like that can break your phone in such a bad way.
Lesson learned - always run registry backup before installing 3rd party apps and even Sprite Backup.

Tilt Dialer Button Behavior

I got a warranty replacement Tilt last week. On my new device, I get no sounds or vibrations when entering numbers on the telephone dialer. My last Tilt used to make a sound as I entered numbers. I have Kaiser Tweak installed, but get nothing whether I set dialer button behavior to tones or vibrate. Any suggestions? I went to Sounds & Notifications and enabled sounds for Screen Taps and Hard Buttons, with still no change for the phone dialer.
did you try searching??
try these keywords:
- keypad vibrate
- keypad sound
and see if there is solution for your problem.
i guess there is, so i would suggest to use search in the future.

thanks, I had found the vibrate thread, but that wasn't what I was looking for. My search did not turn up the dialpad sound fix cab.
there is more than this one thread regarding vibrating dialpad. if this is not what you was looking for, than you could explain what you need in more details. link to sound fix was in keypad vibrate thread. please try searching. but for real this time. you can't expect to find solution with two clicks, you will need some time for serious customization of your phone.

Dialer off right after end of call- HOW to do this??

Hi,
I've been looking for the answer but couldn't find any. This is very annoying for me.I use S2u2 and when I pick up an incoming call with a button or slider after the call the dialer is still on and Phone locks automatically(with dialer on). I have to unlock S2U2 close dialer and lock the phone again- this drives me crazy. Any solution will be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help with this...

Yeah it annoys me too. I use S2U2 as well and I hate that both the dialer and the contact list don't close after I made a call or receive one. The registry solution from the other thread doesn't work with the TF3D dialer.

Have you tried Advanced Config > Phone > End Call Delay? I haven't myself so I don't know if it's the time it takes to disconnect the call or the time it takes to close the dialer. Worth a try.
No, that's the time it takes for the phone to end your call after pressing the end-call button. Which is ridiculous, when I press the button I want to end it immediately .
I agree. Of what purpose could it possibly be to delay the end of the call?!? I mean if you could recover from accidentally hitting the end key that would be one thing. But you can't so any delay is just plain stupid AFAICT.
You can also use Advanced Config to turn off the silly animations and sounds at start up or shutdown. They also do little else but make start up and shutdown longer...
I've switched to the WM default dialer now, as was suggested in this thread, let's see if it it works for me. I liked the HTC dialer though .

I've also tried that and it works but that's not a solution.WMs dialer sucks, keys are small and poor responsible for touch.Anyway I don't like WMs dialer. I don't understand why this reg tweak works with some roms but with some doesn't ;/. Hope it will be fixed in next official rom or somebody from XDA will find a solution for this annoying issue. As U guys sad when I press end button i wanna end immediately ,not in 5 sec!.
I now use the phonecanvas cab for my Diamond, so I don't have to use S2U2 anymore. But I believe this only works with the HTC dialer.
So does anyone have a solution for this problem? I really need it

"slide down for more options"

Hello, im using miri 8.1 premium and i want to remove the "slide down for more options" when i make a call... is this possible??

i also do not need it, and would like to know how to turn it off
+1.
Its a pain to mute/un-mute during conf calls with this on.
Anyone?
For those users interested to find a solution to disable the curtain, here is the package. Could be a dll or a registry key.
Found a solution
Found a solution with reg key.
Goto HKLM\Software\HTC\Phone\Cover
There is a DWORD value ResumeInterval set to 5000 (5secs).
I changed it 300000 (5mins) and soft-reset.
Now the call starts with slider on, you only need to slide down once. Then it will wait for 5 mins of inactivity to come back up.
Probably higher values can be used, but 5mins should work for me.
As always, modify registry at your own risk...

I must admit the Topaz dialer (as nice as it may look) sux! What was wrong with the standard HTC HD dialer? it supported landscape and was functional.

i assume you like the curtain and i'm glad for you, others don't
maybe we use this and just don't need an extra step of protection
and we want to find a way to turn it off

I had zero issue with the standard one, it was functional and did exactly as one would expect. Topaz dialer hides all options instantly making it absolutely dangerous to try and activate loudspeaker whilst driving . The other issue is landscape view, if using any rotate screen app and having the device in landscape (ie. whilst using GPS apps etc) and receiving a call there is no dialer shown at all!
Surely I am not the only one to notice these problems?
thanks man it helped

Anybody tried Inesoft Phone v6.08 on Xperia x2?

Hello to all X2 users,
May i know if anyone has tried the app called Inesoft Phone v6.08 on X2? I find it to be a wonderful replacement for the X2's Dialer. I've uninstalled it however because it caused my phone to hang a lot. And this hanging usually took place when there was an incoming call. I studied and noticed that whenever there was an incoming call, the standard Dialer always started before Inesoft Phone took over. And i guess that introduced some conflict in the X2's RAM resulting in its hanging.
If anyone has tried it, i'll be glad to have them share with me how to solve this hanging problem. Or is it a bug that has to be removed by the Inesoft people? Thanks in advance
if youve got "sktools" you can specify the default dialler in one of the tweaks. maybe you can disable the standard one and that might improve reliability.

Thak you very much sir. Yes i have sktools but i'm not sure of the steps involved in disabling the standard dialer. I shall take a look however and let u know if i find it. I'm sure it will solve the problem b'cos another third-party dialer called Iconsoft Phone Extension v2.2 has as one of it's options "Disable WM phone (for better performance)" and this app has never caused my phone to hang. So i'll look it up in sktools. Thanks again.
try "system tweaks" then "tune up" then the fourth page "phone edition" and scroll down. it says something like OEM DIALLER SKIN. if you disable it then hopefully that will shut off the standard dialer. there may be other options somewhere but thats a good place to start.

Thank you very much. I tried the following in the registry before your post came:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin" and changed the value of 'Enabled' from 1 to 0.
Since then my phone has never hanged though i've received a few calls. I'm still testing it, but i feel strongly that the problem is now solved.
Thanks once again, dear.
Was facing the same problem earlier...but been able to address the issue. Try updating the application and then change the settings mentioned in earlier posts. Should work...it worked for me.
