Hello all, I'm running latest stock Telus 2.1 on my Milestone.
Today I had it in my bag for most of the day, took it out and it was extremely hot to the touch. It would not turn on, screen stayed black no matter what.
I pulled the battery and powered on, everything seems okay but...I am a bit nervous. What could cause this?
Could be some renegade app in the background.

Yeah I'll definitely check into it, although I really don't think so...I literally have no apps on this phone besides Engadget, Facebook (which I never use) and QuickOffice. But I'll check.
I haven't installed any apps or changed fw on this phone for several weeks so that's why I am so concerned that it happened.
Battery drained from 60% to nothing in a short time while this happened. I had put it away and just a couple hours later it was roasting and down to nothing.

Try switching to other ROM and see how your phone behave!
Let us know!
I recommend switching to stock by flashing an original sbf.

I am currently on stock running latest official Telus 2.1 sbf nothing custom at all even launcher is stock
I do this all the time with my droid, and every non clamshell phone I have ever owned. In my case, I put it away with the screen still on, or somehow magically unlock it with my pocket. I can't say exactly how the screen stays on, maybe something was pressing one of the hard buttons. But an hour in a pocket while on will kill a battery pretty fast, and make the device scorching hot to boot.
Try running cyanogen mod 6. Its much better anyway.

Hi,
I have now had 2 occasions where my LG OX2 were automatically shut!!
I took it of the charger this morning, screen brightened, all normal. After 5 min. when I needed it, the phone was off. Later I had one more like this. Got to work and after some hours it was off when I needed it! I really don't get it. Battery was full.
I am on 2.2.2, rootet.
Has anyone had same experince??
I had that issue aswell.
Had that aswell yesterday morning, had to take the batteri out and put it back in, to get it back on
Same here.
Hi guys. Thanks for your answers. This is indeed very strange. This could be something that I will not accept for a smartphone this price. I will contact LG.
Are yours also rootet and have you removed anything?
Cheers.
Rooted. Not removed anything at all.
You mentioned that you have rooted the phone, did you freeze any applications?
Same here.
Only happened once and it was plugged into a charger (and would have been at 100%).
Battery pull was the only thing that worked.
I'll add this thread to the bugs thread.
Have not happend to me yet. I have used it for 1 day now. And 3 charges. No problems.
Rooted and deleted some apps.

Nope.

So it seems to happens just on the rooted phones. Maybe the root its not stable yet?
No, i have not yet roted and i had the same problem yesterday. Nothing so far today though.
Optimus S ... same problem!
It seems like Optimus S have the same problem

Mine is not rooted, I had around 54% battery when I left work. Phone rebooted two times during the 15min walk home, once during a call and once when all I was doing was swiping around the homescreens... :/
My o2x rebooted once today, with 50% battery left.. Edit: Mine is also rooted and I have frozen the car home app.
This is very distressing. Being that this problem affects the 2x, rooted or not, then it is def. a hardware issue. Possibly solely a battery issue, or the design to which where the battery is housed (connectors), or simply power hit/miss circuitry design. My advice is, if it occurs enough not to annoy you (meaning, you don't want to deal w/ a return/exchange & don't mind the re-booting) then keep it. I believe that no software patch can fix this & for such an expensive device, I would return it for a fresh unit.

I did withnis this twice yesterday.
The phone doesn't shut down. It is a huge lag.
It happend the 3th time. I didn't pull out the battery, after 20sec that I pressed the power button for the screen to light up, the screen showed.
So it is lagg.
Not rooted. And to make it clear i'm talking about the phone screen not turning on, so you have to pull out battery and power it on again. No reboot.
What?! 20s lag? I was looking forward for quick device since I switch my Rhodium for LGO2X. I hope that this would be fixed soon by LG...
How odd. I haven't experienced this at all, and i've rooted mine and removed apps like F-Secure from my phone (By renaming them, don't worry.)
I guess a good way to find out if it's lag is to see if adb is still working.
Had it yesterday myself, once during charging. Then the powerbutton did work. Hour later I had to pull the battery. Wanted to advanced but forgot to leave USB debugging on. Had it so far only with my replaced unit. The first few days with the original unit didn't show signs of this...
Have to say my first unit wasn't rooted until the day they swapped it. The one I have now has been rooted since day one.

So earlier today my phone went from 90% to 15% charge instantly. I went to the Verizon store to see about a battery, obvious possible issue. They wanted to reset my phone to factory default but being rooted and on a custom rom, this would not work. Made some excuse about not loosing all my data, grabbed the phone and back to the office.
Imaged the system back to LG stock with root and removed CWM and all the sudden everything works fine. Its current at 65% charge. Before it would not charge over 15%.
Just thought I would share. Anyone else have an issue like this? It was completely random. Phone has been fine on revolt 1.0 for since it released, before that decrapped 1.0. odd that switching back made it work. The guy at verizon said that factory resets will often fix this issue...
H.
I had something like that happen, but my phone was running hot as well. It happened following a spontaneous reboot, the battery never able to charge as fast as it was discharging . I didn't get as far as you to test stock again for other reasons. Here was my thread as I tried to figure it out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216468
Well it is working fine now however I forgot to disable updating and it updated last night and I lost root...

off and on. I am an IT guy so I am in and out of my office.
Welp it has happened again...
I am rooted on decrap 1.0 with CWM. Today it has run completely dead in under 5 hours with no usage. I am trying to charge it enough to get in so I can remove CWM before I take it to Verizon as the first thing they will want to do is factory reset it, only need 5 min so I can run revotoolkit.
This is the suck. While I like the phone I am also really starting to regret this phone.
Oddly enough it is charging normally. This battery sudden drain is weird.
I understand your frustration.....mine behaves that way occasionally too. Plus the spontaneous reboots are becoming more frequent as well
[I'm Revolting -- are you? Beamed directly into your brain by Revolt 1.3]
Diddo last week. So Squigs, suggested a data wipe. So I did it and flashed revolt. Well setting up the LG/Verizon stuff was a no go, so I went homeless. I did my initial set up, and then pushed the Revolt. I have been running golden now. I just wonder if there is a way to run 2 roms at the same time, or a double rom. Because my battery life was 4 hours before I did a system wipe, this info was via my battery widget, but when I wiped everything, I have 15 hours when I start my day. I had calibrated my battery prior to all of this as well.
That is the odd part about it, it works fine for a week or so then bam, the battery goes wonky... Then returns to normal, it seems after a battery pull.
That's no good. Sorry to hear it happened again. Running Decrap 1.1 and I haven't had it happen again yet *knock on wood*
I need to find what is eating up the resources. The phone says the android OS is eating over 64% of the battery and the phone is not being used.
Android OS on my phone generally uses close to 80 or 90% on my phone. With that I still got 12 hours yesterday on the stock battery before I was at 3% battery and plugged in. Try a data reset if you already haven't and if that doesn't work I would say you need either a new phone or battery.
My phone has done this multiple times. Once in a while ill get a text. It'll vibrate for 2 minutes with the screen off. Then reboot with 40% less battery

So I ran it dead, charged to 100% and while still on charge ran a battery calibration app (as the app instructed) and I am back again getting 20+ hours on really light usage, 6 - 8 on moderate usage. This is weird. I have 2 upgrades on my other lines, I am really thinking about getting a bionic, reports are it gets exceptional battery life and then selling the revo.
Sigh... while not eating as bad it is still ripping through. I got 1 good day and now it is back. It has been off charger for just over and hour, no usage, and it is down 6% already. Frustrating.
recently experienced the same issue. had a random 2-3 day spurt where the battery was dead by noon.....then all of a sudden, it returned to normal. never did figure out why.
recently received a new phone (but same battery)....installed Home-Less....currently experiencing much better battery life.
from previous posts, sounds like you bought thru verizon......if not, and you bought thru best buy.....i think they will order you a new battery pretty much no questions asked.
After I got my replacement phone about a week ago, I downgraded, rooted, ran homeless battery was doing ok....well, just yesterday my battery when to crap again...just an hour and down to 70....i really wish I could figure out wtf...

I have reverted to stock rom with root. I am using Titanium Backup to freeze the bloatware to see if it has something to do with the modified ROMs. Crossing my fingers.
from my experience, the custom ROM actually helped my battery issues. my problems were encountered when i was un-rooted. what kills my battery the most is the fact that i work on the fringe of both 3g and 4g....causing the phone to constantly cycle between 3g/4g/1x. when i'm on straight 4g, i can last all day without a problem.
i'd be interested in hearing your results.
ok, I recently replaced my bionic due to a shattered screen. the one verizon sent me didn't come with a battery so I'm using the same old one. so when I rooted my phone on ics, a couple weeks later I noticed that my phone was taking awhile to recharge. with the battery hd app it said that from about ted percent it would take nearly 4 hours to charge! as opposed to the usual hour, hour an a half. then I updated to jelly bean an due to my internal storage becoming unmounted, I had to fxz an lost root altogether. so after getting my internal storage back an waiting what seemed like a month for a root exploit, my battery was back to charging normally, which was pretty sweet. so today I booted ubuntu an rooted my bionic using the samba exploit recreated by the master genius of moto exploits himself, all hail Dan! after playing around an getting back to my old setup I drained a full battery. I plugged in an yet again battery hd. is reporting a 4 hour charge time, plugged into ac! so my question is, does anyone know what could be causing this?! from what I know so far it seems that having root access is the cause. but I can't put the two together an understand how that is an I don't have the kinda time for a 4 hour wait on a charge....somebody help!
Try to delete the battery stats. Maybe the phone is traiting the battery like a 10000mah one and recharges it a while.
Let me know if it worked!
yea i tried that right off the bat. in recovery, with a battery calibration app, and manually. nothin helps
It could be one of two things: one, there could be a problem with your ROM's battery app, therefore displaying incorrect data. Another issue could be the battery itself, as these batteries degrade over time so it could have gone flat and no longer hold an efficient charge.

hopeully its just the rom. i'm installing safestrap right now so i can jump over to another one and see how the battery acts there, maybe help narrow it down. an now i'm thinking it probly is the rom as the battery holds a charge like it always has. it just charges super slow. if i use the wifi tether or download any big files such as a zip file for a rom, it actually drains the battery very slowly while plugged in to ac. around 1 percent every five or ten min, depending how much i have goin on at the time. i clearly remember when it started happening. i checked once and it showed a normal charge time between 1 an 2 hours. i fiddled around did some things, of which i now cant remember what i did (install apps for example) an ten minutes later it was in this state where it takes 4 hours to charge. i've tried deleting apps, calibrating the battery, hopefully it works normal on a different rom its turning out to be quite the inconvience. Thanks for you help and input!!

ok so I installed a different rom on the safe system using safe strap an I was still having issues. tried a different rom and same thing. I went back to the unsafe side and did a master reset on the stock rom and it seems to have fixed the problem. I'm curious to see what it is um doing that's causing it as this is the second time its happened. gonna pay close attention to the possibility of it happening again to hopefully pin point the origin.

If you tried various versions of different ROMs, and you're still experiencing the same issues, it's probably an issue with the hardware, so I would check the battery to make sure.
its back to normal now. But I'm still pretty curious as to how my stock rom was causing the problem across different roms even using safestrap. an fxz fixed her right up

Hi,
A few days ago I upgraded my Note from a very ancient (stock) Gingerbread ROM to (stock) Jellybean. I hadn't been getting OTA updates because the Gingerbread was originally German rather than UK, so quite a long time had passed without any updates. Anyway, because of the no OTA, I used Odin. Everything went fine and I had a nice few days of usage, although the battery consumption seemed to suddenly be quite high, mainly due to additional wakelocks from the new Google Search it looked like. The night before last at about 3% the phone turned itself off, which is unusual as normally the battery will run itself lower than that. BTW, it's an official battery bought just a few months ago to replace the one before, which was getting old.
Yesterday evening when I went to use the phone it was dead. Completely unresponsive. It wouldn't charge either. (The battery had been at about fourteen percent I think, so it should have still had a lot of juice left.) Turning it on would leave it stuck on the Samsung logo only. Recovery mode didn't work, but I could get download mode up, so I installed the Philz kernel as people have said, and then did a reset using that, and all was okay again and after reflashing the ROM I could use the phone again, although because of the reset I had to set everything up again.
Just wondering what people think caused it. Just a weird coincidence, or something else? As far as I'm concerned, the problem has been sort of mitigated for now, but definitely not fixed, because what's to stop it happening again? Has anyone heard of strange things going on with Jellybean? I know there's an issue with flashing/resetting from ICS, but I never used that so I don't think that's an issue, and it looks like it was just a soft brick only. Still, a bit weird and worrying. Does anyone have any ideas?
That was caused by an unexpected shutdown of your phone - if you remove the battery without it fully turning off then you will get it and yeah, blame samsung.
The only way not to have it again is to flash philz kernel with the bootloop fix BEFORE you get the bootloop. Alternativly, if you get it again then you can try what is in this post:

I didn't take the battery out though. It was low but not dead.
Since then it has happened once again, a few days ago, this time at 93% full. I was doing nothing at all taxing to the phone. I was just in a shop listening to an mp3 with the screen off, and then it stopped and the next thing I saw was the bootloop. Luckily (thanks to the new kernel?) I could just delete cache/dalvik and be back up and running again without having to reinstall everything. Today my screen temporarily went a weird purple colour like in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2216867 . Sounds like it's just dying in general really, rather than anything else. My phone contract upgrade date is in two days. Purely a coincidence of course. Weird how phones tend to last about the length of a mobile phone contract. Until then I'm just running on power saving mode and hoping for the best.
Anyone else having extreme battery drain issues?
Just started out of nowhere. I woke up, checked my phone as usual.. it was cool when I picked it up, but after 5 minutes on it, it started getting hot.
Battery is draining 20-30 in 15 minutes.. I've wiped the phone and installed a fresh ROM, both AOSP, and Sense-based. If I take it off the charger it will drain and die. I've had this happen to a previous HTC One.
Does anyone have any ideas?
It doesn't make much sense to me.. if I wipe the phone, and all it has is a bootloader and recovery, what could the problem be? I wipe the phone and turn it off, and it still gets hotter and hotter. I'm barely keeping it alive on the charger.. I can manage flashing a ROM, et.c. but if I leave anywhere with my phone and use it.. it will be dead in an hour I feel. Then it will be a brick.
Anyone?
I've tried the PWR Volume +/- too..

Batterycell problem, assuming you've always used the original charger that came with the phone?
Anyways it sounds like a warranty issue. I would return the software to stock and deliver it back saying it's always been like this. You should get a new.
Whatever you do, turn it off at night. Assuming the cells are unstable, it may actually overheat and explode. I wouldn't want to be asleep at that time if I were you...

Ugh.. this is already my 4th One in 3 months. Tired of this problem.
I'm probably going to request a different model of phone. Too many problems here.
Thanks...
Feel for you bro... I've fortunately never had any problems with mine, nor have my friends with their One's.
Well, sounds pretty bad, sorry for you
But i would sent it back (again) and make some pressure and tell them you want a fully functionally phone already! I dont know what i would do, i'm fine with mine ('knocking on the table*) but if had such issues and already had THREE phones because of issues i would go enrage lol.
Have had issues with a new laptop the first one had heating problems with graphic processor, so i sent it back, made some pressure and got a new one which is fine now
What i will say, always make a little pressure and don't say "okay" to everything you will get
