Hi,
I have now had 2 occasions where my LG OX2 were automatically shut!!
I took it of the charger this morning, screen brightened, all normal. After 5 min. when I needed it, the phone was off. Later I had one more like this. Got to work and after some hours it was off when I needed it! I really don't get it. Battery was full.
I am on 2.2.2, rootet.
Has anyone had same experince??
I had that issue aswell.
Had that aswell yesterday morning, had to take the batteri out and put it back in, to get it back on
Same here.
Hi guys. Thanks for your answers. This is indeed very strange. This could be something that I will not accept for a smartphone this price. I will contact LG.
Are yours also rootet and have you removed anything?
Cheers.
Rooted. Not removed anything at all.
You mentioned that you have rooted the phone, did you freeze any applications?
Same here.
Only happened once and it was plugged into a charger (and would have been at 100%).
Battery pull was the only thing that worked.
I'll add this thread to the bugs thread.
Have not happend to me yet. I have used it for 1 day now. And 3 charges. No problems.
Rooted and deleted some apps.

Nope.

So it seems to happens just on the rooted phones. Maybe the root its not stable yet?
No, i have not yet roted and i had the same problem yesterday. Nothing so far today though.
Optimus S ... same problem!
It seems like Optimus S have the same problem

Mine is not rooted, I had around 54% battery when I left work. Phone rebooted two times during the 15min walk home, once during a call and once when all I was doing was swiping around the homescreens... :/
My o2x rebooted once today, with 50% battery left.. Edit: Mine is also rooted and I have frozen the car home app.
This is very distressing. Being that this problem affects the 2x, rooted or not, then it is def. a hardware issue. Possibly solely a battery issue, or the design to which where the battery is housed (connectors), or simply power hit/miss circuitry design. My advice is, if it occurs enough not to annoy you (meaning, you don't want to deal w/ a return/exchange & don't mind the re-booting) then keep it. I believe that no software patch can fix this & for such an expensive device, I would return it for a fresh unit.

I did withnis this twice yesterday.
The phone doesn't shut down. It is a huge lag.
It happend the 3th time. I didn't pull out the battery, after 20sec that I pressed the power button for the screen to light up, the screen showed.
So it is lagg.
Not rooted. And to make it clear i'm talking about the phone screen not turning on, so you have to pull out battery and power it on again. No reboot.
What?! 20s lag? I was looking forward for quick device since I switch my Rhodium for LGO2X. I hope that this would be fixed soon by LG...
How odd. I haven't experienced this at all, and i've rooted mine and removed apps like F-Secure from my phone (By renaming them, don't worry.)
I guess a good way to find out if it's lag is to see if adb is still working.
Had it yesterday myself, once during charging. Then the powerbutton did work. Hour later I had to pull the battery. Wanted to advanced but forgot to leave USB debugging on. Had it so far only with my replaced unit. The first few days with the original unit didn't show signs of this...
Have to say my first unit wasn't rooted until the day they swapped it. The one I have now has been rooted since day one.

Hey, guys, I tried dong some research but I can't find anyone with a similar problem.
I've got a T-Mobile (USA) G1 and I've got Cyanogen's Eclair ROM flashed on it. Prior to flashing Cyanogen's ROM, I was using OpenEclair. OpenEclair was working [relatively] well until my phone randomly started shutting off. I thought it was a battery calibration problem, so I recalibrated my battery by letting it die completely and then charging it fully, but that didn't work. I flashed Cyanogen's Eclair and hoped that my problem would be fixed, but the problem still persists.
I can't really isolate the problem. My phone can shut off in the middle of a call, in the middle of writing a txt message, or without me even using it while it's in my pocket. It shuts off regardless of the battery level (I've seen it shut off at like 97%). This wouldn't be THAT bad except the phone refuses to turn on right after it shuts off. When I press the power button, the phone will show the G1 logo for a few seconds and then shut off again as if it was dead. Sometimes if I press the power button, the phone won't turn on and I'll see the LED flash red which gives me the idea that the phone "thinks" it's dead. In order for me to turn the phone back on, I need to plug in the charger. This is becoming extremely annoying.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I would try wiping/re-flashing but I don't wanna lose all my data :/
Thanks,
Gerard
I'm having the same exact problem ever since installing cyanogen 5.0.7 Test 1... so im not sure whats going on but i went to T-Mobile today... and they said my battery is warped or somethin not to tech savy... yet it was working fine like totally so... hmmm anyone know anything?
yea this has happened to me too! It shuts off randomly then i cant turn it back on until like 30 minutes later without touching it. I noticed that it happened after i flashed a open eclair rom that wouldnt start but i did flash it correctly. I have wiped battery stats and dalvik cache. Well i hope we can get some answers
I had the same problem I have tried just about every rom out there so dont remember when it started but i ordered a new battery off ebay for 10 bucks and havent had a problem since

So you think it's a hardware problem? I find it kinda hard to believe that all of us coincidentally got this problem after installing Ecalir ROMs...unless Eclair destroys our battery somehow?
:/
yeah same here but mine started with Amon Ra 1.2.3 and the blue haze rom. I updated my recovery to the latest 1.6.2 I think and switched to htcclay's superfast and the danger spl slso tmobile is comping me a new battery just to be safe, although switching rom's seem's to have helped my battery life a little. hope this helps someone.
Have you tried replacing the battery?

Nah, I'm part lazy and part unconvinced that it's a hardware issue. I mean if the phone reads that the battery is like 95% charged, why would it just give out randomly? I don't know much about hardware though, so maybe I'm wrong...
I want T-Mobile to get a new Android phone that's like incredible I want a new phone already damnit!!
im just gonna buy a battery on ebay or something because my battery does look kinda swollen so it could possibly be the battery. Gonna give it a try though

You think you could update us when you find out whether it changes anything or not? :/
This phone gets me really frustrated because first it started shutting off and now i have a unresponsive lock screen! I push all the buttons and the screen is black like if its turned off. I have to do a battery pull but theres a risk of the phone not turning back on and shutting off on the g1 screen. I was planning to buy the battery today but i think im just going to use a different phone for now. I hope someone can really resolve this problem. Cant wait for the samsung galaxy s
For what it's worth, I started having the same issue last week with my G1. I think it's entirely coincidental that you switched to the CM 2.1 Test branch and your phone started getting screwy.
I looked at my battery as the first suspect, and what did I find when I pulled it out of the case? A badly swolen battery. By the end of the week, the swelling had gotten so bad that it was visibly bulging the plastic backing on my G1.
I took it to 3 separate T-Mobile stores looking for a replacement battery. The first two were of no luck, but the 3rd finally had one in stock. The CSR saw my battery and almost freaked out. She says I was lucky that it didn't pop because it was ready to at just about any moment.
Long story short, since replacing my battery, I have had ZERO issues, and my battery life has once again been phenomenal (well, for the G1).
I just checked my battery and I think it's possible that it's swollen. On the side where it says "htc Innovation," is it supposed to be perfectly flat? There's like a rectangle that's slightly raised above the rest of surface. I'm a little hesitant to buy a $50 battery if that's the way the battery is supposed to be.
Thanks,
Gerard
Spontaneous power off - sunspots?
Yes, this happened to me fairly frequently about 3 months ago. Now it happens (maybe) once a week.
In my experience, it isn't a Cyanogen issue - it would spontaneous die when I used Enomther's official rom, SuperD (one of the previous versions), and some others. That made me think it was hardware, but ... I haven't changed hardware, and still drop the G1 into my pocket like usual.
So if it isn't ROM software and it isn't hardware, what is it - sunspots?

It should be perfectly flat. A new, good battery does not have the bulging rectangle in the middle you are talking about. Mine did the same thing. In fact, both sides were swelling. The battery would no longer sit flush in the back. My theory was simply that some sort of movement was causing it to lose contact and shutting off the phone.
If you take the battery out and lay it flat the table, you shouldn't be able to rock it by pressing an edge. If you can, your battery is dying.
I just bought a battery yesterday on amazon for 15$ You should check it out. Hope this battery resolves my problem. I also fixed my lock screen issue. I had set cpu to 120 instead of 128 so it unresponsive.
I have the same problem, and indeed when i now look at it my battery seems a bit swollen. I ordered a replacement battery on dealextreme. They have a few different battery replacements for the G1 for cheap (and lots of other things, regular customer) with free shipping. So i hope that will fix my problem .
I found this thread because I've been having random shutoffs as if the battery were pulled (black screen immediately, no "Shutting Down" prompt first), and it would only do this when NOT charging. This started happening when I first ran Firerat's all-in-one script but I think it was coincidental. So anyways, I found this thread after wanting to pull my hair out because of the random shutoffs, and sure enough, I pulled my battery and it's a bit puffed out. Time for a new battery.
My question is : does anyone think this is a result of the extra strain placed on the battery / heat generated from being overclocked? Once I get a new battery, I'd like to prevent it from happening in the future.
definately a battery problem. had the same thing on my g1. got into a whole big argument about how it WAS NOT PHONE in the cyanogen6 thread. guess what....it was my phone.
its not the rom. its your phone. seriously.
also, just to point out, most of us here got our phones relatively early in its release, and lot of people are having this problem now apparently. battery has life of 2yrs by my calculations.
if you can mimic a reboot with the phone plugged into usb or wall charger...it may be rom. but if you phone DOES NOT DIE while PLUGGED IN...ITS YOUR BATTERY.
Had the same problem with my 2008 bought g1, swollen battery and random shutdowns. Just inserted an new bought battery. Hope it fixes the problem.
Hello all.
I bought a Nexus One in at the beginning of the year. It's not rooted and I've had no problems from it till this month. I can not say the timing is exactly this, but it seems the battery issues started just after the FRG83D upgrade. I am accustomed to using my phone for most of the day before it needs to be charged. 12 hours or more with moderate use. Since around the FRG83D update my battery is about dead in around 4 or 5 hours. I haven't changed any settings or gotten any new apps or anything for quite some time.
For example, Friday night I charged my phone to 100% and then unplugged it (to plug in my girlfriends phone) and went to bed (about midnight). At 5:15am my alarm went off, i glanced at my phone and found the batter was at 10%!! the phone had been sitting there doing nothing all night with the screen off. I checked the battery use screen and it showed cell standby and AKMD taking up all the battery (55% and 35% respectively). I should mention that I have full signal where I am and have never had an issue. I cut off the screen rotate in the settings just in case that was part of it (AKMD being the gsensor i believe).
At next full charge that day i noticed the same problem, after being at 100% my battery was down to 10% after about 5 hours, almost the entire time I didn't use the phone. This time "display" was the largest percent by far (followed by cell standby), but clicking it showed only 15 minutes of use time for the display as I had purposefully not messed with the phone much.
Last night I had to be out and a bout so I decided to test things again. Charged full and cut airplane mode on. about 4 hours later my phone was down to 20ish percent, the only use of the phone being me looking at the charge level a couple times through the night.
I installed "spare parts" app and it shows my battery as being in good health and such but who knows how reliable that is.
Anyone else having similar issues? Any suggested remediation measures? I'm considering flashing the phone and reinstalling apps and such but would rather avoid that having never done that before and not having a desire to deal with setting everything back the way I have it.
Don't know if it matters but I run LauncherPRO and I do use the friends widget but it's never seemed to really cause battery issues before. I also run the news/weather widget, but again, no previous problems.
Any help would be great
Thanks!
In the spare parts app check partial wake usage. See if any apps are not letting your phone sleep.
nothing stands out other than UID 10073 which is handcent. currently my phone is charging but I'll pop it off the charger soon and watch the battery drop time again. I should note that inbetween all the tests so far i've rebooted the device so hanging apps of any kind should be killed off...
What ROM are you using?
Are you using Extended Controls? There is an issue with that and FRG83D. Uninstall it until the dev sorts it out.
yeah i am using extended controls. i'll take it off and see what happens.
Me too
I Have exactly the same issue, also have extended controls. Uninstalled and waiting to see if that works.
Cheers for the suggestion.
That did the trick! Loss like extended controls was the problem. A shame as i really like that app. Will hope they update and fix soon. Thanks!

Yup, uninstalling fixed it for me too. Haven't seen the update though. I remember seeing an update yesterday, but I had this issue with that update so that did not fix it for me. Hope they update it again soon

I think it was updated again today. Now v5.03, and it seems to work properly.
So nobody saw Extended Controls showing up in Spare Parts, System Panel or other such programs?
First things first, this is my first time posting on XDA Developers and yes I have searched the forums for a similar question/answer and only found one but my I had a small additional problem as well.
Problem 1) My battery indicator is always wrong, one time it says it's 50% and then I restart my phone and then it says 15%, then I play games until it's 12% and then restart again and then the phone now says 20%.
Problem 2) When my battery indicator is incorrect, when I turn off my phone, the xperia T will just restart and then I have to turn it off again.
What I've done;
- I used sony's repair software online (Sony PC Companion)
- Used ICS format option
- Exchanged Xperia T for another one at Carphone Warehouse 2-3 days ago (Original purchase was last week)
- Drained the battery from 100% to 0% and then charged it again.
NOTE: My Xperia T was bought from UK (Carphone Warehouse) and I haven't flashed it onto another ROM nor have I rooted the phone and the phone is unlocked too.
NOTE 2: I had exchange the phone once and still same problems occurred, dunno if I'm "Bad Luck Brian" this week or all certain xperia T's behave this way.

I have come across the issue of the phone restarting on power off. Quite strange but yet couldnt isolate as to why it does it.
Just gt my phone exchanged due to a suspected bad microphone, and the new one too restarted on a power off.
The previous one seemed quite good with battery life and the new one is yet on the 1st cycle of drain.
Yes, occasionaly my phone does a restart instead of a power off, but i find it quitw usefull because normally I am rebooting to get into recovery and I hate not having a reboot option...
Well done sony
EDIT
The other thing that bigs me is the random reboots...does anyone else get this on stock kernel. I am advanced v3 stock kernel.

Good to hear the restart is a common thing
I've had a random reboot once, while running sat nav sw (sygic).
Today I exchanged my phone to Galaxy Note 2, couldn't be happier.
Also, I've contacted Sony before the exchange (and after this thread was posted) and they said that the issue is known by Sony and it's unknown if it's a software or hardware problem for now, wish you guys good luck and hopefully it's a software bug

In the past month on which I own the device I maybe had one or two random reboots. All stock only rooted. So my guess is its in the advance kernel. Since most people who have it have a unlocked bootloader

I haven't experienced any restarts but my battery level indicator is a bit hit and miss.
I can run my batt down to, say, 5% then turn the screen off and leave it for a while and it'll report something like 15% when I turn the screen back on several minutes later. It will also stay working for AGES when at 1% - my best effort was just under an hour of video with 1% being reported!
I'm sure it'll all get fixed in an update. The T is much more stable than my G-Note was just after release, it took months for Samsung to sort things out on it!
Not random reboots nor battery level issues. Currently in fw 195.
The first 2 weeks of my tx, it could stay at 100% for several hours even over night.
After that, It could stay at 1% for up to 3 hours. Lol
The indicator is not Accurate, but hey, I got pretty good battery life out of TX, around 30hrs per charge.
As for the battery indicator: the percentage is calculated based on the current the battery puts out. The problem with current batteries is, if you pull a lot of energy in a short amount of time (boot/reboot, play game, other hard phone use) the current temporarily drops and thus a wrong percentage is calculated. After a while, the current recovers and the correct value will be shown. Comparable to the fuel gauge showing less/more fuel when parked at a steep hill.
This explains how the meter can fluctuate. What I cant answer is if your phone acts inside the "tolerance margin" or if its way off. My Galaxy Note recently went from 30% to 5% in a couple minutes (I used the hell out of it...) and after I stopped using it, it went back to 15% overthe following 30 mimutes.
As for the other issue, I obviously cant help as I dont possess a X T.
Gesendet von meinem ASUS Transformer Pad TF300TG mit Tapatalk 2
So far battery life seems insane with the extended standby mode... Haven't run a full day yet but it's barely dropping at all for the last couple hours.
Sony T restart problems
Hey guys,
Just looking at sony website, i searched xperia t and in the tutorial it said that holding the power off button turns the phone off while holding the power off button and volume up button at the same time makes it restart. All you guys saying you've got problems with the device re-booting. ITS NOT THE DEVICE ITS YOU PRESSING THE VOLUME UP BUTTON:silly: . A little research never hurts every once in a while!!!!!!!!!!
Noticed the battery percentage peculiarities too... Can't we hide the battery percentage altogether? It makes me anxious.
Had only 1 reboot on the other hand, while going into airplane mode. Phone is pretty stable (build 223).

That's 3 VERY old threads you have dug up, can I ask the reason why you are doing so?
Anyone else having extreme battery drain issues?
Just started out of nowhere. I woke up, checked my phone as usual.. it was cool when I picked it up, but after 5 minutes on it, it started getting hot.
Battery is draining 20-30 in 15 minutes.. I've wiped the phone and installed a fresh ROM, both AOSP, and Sense-based. If I take it off the charger it will drain and die. I've had this happen to a previous HTC One.
Does anyone have any ideas?
It doesn't make much sense to me.. if I wipe the phone, and all it has is a bootloader and recovery, what could the problem be? I wipe the phone and turn it off, and it still gets hotter and hotter. I'm barely keeping it alive on the charger.. I can manage flashing a ROM, et.c. but if I leave anywhere with my phone and use it.. it will be dead in an hour I feel. Then it will be a brick.
Anyone?
I've tried the PWR Volume +/- too..

Batterycell problem, assuming you've always used the original charger that came with the phone?
Anyways it sounds like a warranty issue. I would return the software to stock and deliver it back saying it's always been like this. You should get a new.
Whatever you do, turn it off at night. Assuming the cells are unstable, it may actually overheat and explode. I wouldn't want to be asleep at that time if I were you...

Ugh.. this is already my 4th One in 3 months. Tired of this problem.
I'm probably going to request a different model of phone. Too many problems here.
Thanks...
Feel for you bro... I've fortunately never had any problems with mine, nor have my friends with their One's.
Well, sounds pretty bad, sorry for you
But i would sent it back (again) and make some pressure and tell them you want a fully functionally phone already! I dont know what i would do, i'm fine with mine ('knocking on the table*) but if had such issues and already had THREE phones because of issues i would go enrage lol.
Have had issues with a new laptop the first one had heating problems with graphic processor, so i sent it back, made some pressure and got a new one which is fine now
What i will say, always make a little pressure and don't say "okay" to everything you will get
Every since I "upgraded" to lollipop, my battery is acting very strange. When the phone gets to about 30% it will shut itself off, then when I charge it, it will show 0%.
Today the phone shut down when it was at around 53%, and wouldn't turn on. I charged it a coupe of hours, it went to to about 70%, then at some point I rebooted the phone, and it shows 23% (See attached screenshot).
I tried doing a factory reset (through the phone, not through PC companion), it didn't help.
My phone is not rooted. Is there anything I can do?
The same here, in the last two days . Everything stock, no new app installed. Maybe change battery?

I'm having the same problems as you are. Everything was ok before updating to .283. Now my battery goes even from 90 to zero when doing something like browsing the web or using the facebook app. I'm waiting for a new battery, but now that I saw your post I'm beginning to doubt that the battery is the problem and maybe its a software issue.
Notice in the picture that my wifi is always on, but it was off the entire day. Could that be the problem?

Same here, it shows the wifi as always on, but I have it turned off during the day. So I'm guessing a software issue.
When in heavy duty, also with 90% of charge it shut down and I can't switch it on again because battery is 0%. I will change the battery

From what I was reading I thought the 283 update helped with the battery drain? I am thinking of jumping back to KitKat for the time being as ealier today I was out, phone on full charge, got to the town I needed to be in, battery was on 60% from light usage, then when I went to use google maps to see where I needed to go phone died, tried turning it back on, got it passed my sim lock and then it died again, later on that day when I was finished at appointment, I tried turning it on and it worked, but reduced to 15%. Also I noticed that when the phone was locked, I could feel the battery heating up itself, in my pocket.
Annoying thing was when I got home I charged it and I tried using it for a few seconds and then dropped back to 0. It must be a problem with Xperias only, because I know of no-one else on Lollipop that has a battery drain like this.

I feel your pain. I'm having the same issues.
I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue or what...
I notice that it shuts down sometimes when I try to move apps to sd.
Whenever I fully charge the phone and use it down to around 70%, it will drop to 1% if I try to restart the phone.
Sometime it will drop to 1% without notice. It will need to charge up a bit to make it work again.
Also, when I restart the phone, it will tell me sd damaged even though it is working fine. I tried formatting it already.
When I hard reset it using power button and volume up, it will recognize the previous charge level sometimes.
It's just really strange.
I feel like there is two different charge level the phone remember.
Attached is what my battery graph looks like.
It dropped to zero when I tried to restart it.
And then I did a hard reset, it went back up to 80%.
I tried moving apps to sd then it dropped to zero.
Going to put KitKat back on later today and see if it goes back to normal, will keep you posted, really pains me to do this as 5.1 is due out sometime this month onwards.
guys, this has been talked before. moving back to KK will not help. the only way to fix it is changeing the battery. LP messed with the battery hardware. thats the reason its happening to a lot of user...
Well if battery needs replacing that's fine I can get it done for an ok price just wish I didn't have to.

I really don't want to have my battery changed by a third party because I still want to have the water proof feature.
Also, I'm in Canada..I contacted Sony but they said they don't serve Canadians.
Does reverting back to KK not work at all?

Well got my phone in for a battery replacement, forgot to ask if waterproof seal will remain. but I would never trust phone in water, all I need is for the phone to stop dying at %50. Local phone shop going to do it for £25 > €35.49 > $38.78. Will report when I get the handset back.
My phone worked fine after changing the battery and installing stock kernel.
Just reporting back.
Right I need some advice as I am having a dilemma, other than the battery is there anything else it could be? Reasoning I am asking and although I am dubious about what was said, I need to ask. I handed my phone into a local place to get the battery replaced, and after close to two weeks, I went and asked how much longer they think they would take to sort it out, they spoke in their own language for a few mins and then came to me and said they could not sort it and told me they replaced the battery and the same thing still happened, they also said they did some testing with the phone. My phone is encrypted and requires a pin to login, can they still test the phone without this? Also as I said at the beginning, is it definitely the battery or could it be something else? I have bought my own battery and I am going to test it myself and if it works, although I will not get my money back that I had to pay I will go and complain.
