[Q] Video messaging??? - HD7 General

I haven't heard definitively, but I keep hearing whispers that WP7 can't/doesn't support video messaging as of this moment.
IS THIS CORRECT???
Thanks.

You should be so sedate about it not working, do something about it. It'a s problem.

If you have a TyTn II with a front camera, looks like you might actually be able to use it on the AT&T Network.
Maybe.

My remark was without elaboration, sorry for not completing my thought
Live video over their 3g network to other AT&T customers ? Video calling , video conferencing, video sharing? All semantics. My point was , AT$T aready has one way video calling ( sorry , Sharing ) and Apple has iChat (two way internet video chat) neither anything new, To add two way video calling ( sorry sharing) ala iChat to other AT$T phones and to add iPhone to the 3G network didn't seem to me to be a revelation that was going to corner the market for Steve Jobs and AT$T.
Sorry if I rained on anyones parade. By all means , woot woot woot

Why doesn't google

Why doesn't Google implement video chat into Gtalk or Google voice? I think that would be the next logical step in the evolution of those two apps what do you guys here think?
Skpe is good but I don't use it and I would rather use a app that I already use on my desktop that I am familiar with that I can use on my mobile device.
(Nexus One) plus it would give me a choice.
I know that the Nexus One does not have a front facing camera, but a native video chat app for the android os would be best. plus it simple to make a mirror for the camera so that it can be use for video chat.
What makes you think they're not working on it for Android already?
http://www.google.com/chat/video
I know that they have the plug in for the desktop which i use, i do hope that it will be implemented ,maybe the next update (gingerbread).
Won't do us much good without a front facing camera. Maybe once the hardware becomes more common they will add it.
I remember when video phones were all the rage many years back. The plans were ridiculous, the quality was piss poor, and no one used it. Now that mobile networks are getting faster it might start to make sense finally.
well once a long time ago i had a iphone (god forgive for i have sin) and some guy had written a video chat program for it which never was release but i copy the mirror setup to use the camera on the iphone which did not have a front facing camera. so nexus one could use it .
You don't have to have a front facing camera for video chat.
Imagine you're talking to someone and see something cool. "Hey, check this out" / turn on video chat for a few seconds and point at whatever / turn video chat off.
As video chat becomes more and more popular, I bet that's what it'll be used for rather than looking at someone's face for 30 minutes.

I certainly hope they do but I don't think they're in much of a hurry because alternative services like Fring and Skype already have it covered.
However [and this may be a little off the rails] I hope that MMS is high on their Google Voice priority list because people send me pictures and not only can I not see them, it doesn't even tell me that I got it. Very annoying.
Whats the point to use video chat to show someone something, just record a video and mms it. I don't think video chat will catch on anyways, its been tried before with landlines. People just don't like to be seen when talking on the phone. They wouldn't mind seeing you but they don't want to be seen. Plus I see schools getting pissy about new types of "sexting."

for one its real time ,i won't have to open another app to send a mms, i can just point and show and im done.
I guess it's a question of time that Google will bless us with a full blown video app (mobile or not). The recent acquisition of Gips gives us a hint.
As voice and video is however only marginally close to Google's mission (and possibly, core competence) of making the world's information universally accessible, they are dragging their feet. And, they make internet-enabling all sorts of devices a priority.
But I can't wait for an integration of Google voice with gizmo5, which would make the talk/chat client more Skype-like.

Doesn't that only activate if she opens the Maps app?
Video chat should be made standard into android and smartphones in general. Its of great use for people that communicate thru sign language. I know it would help friends of mine and their families.

Google talk or call

How to get Google talk or call to work in other places apart from the US?
Sent from my X10i
I think you mean google voice? there's no such thing as 'call', and Gtalk is their IM service which is available world-wide. There are some methods available, but judging by people's comments they are extremely unreliable. I'd like to think that when someone contacts me via phone or SMS, *they will be able to contact me*, for me it's not worth messing with even though I'd really like to use GV.
Well if the a person studies abroad and has to call back home its gonna be pretty expensive. I installed skype but it has. Horrible voice quality.

There was an app in the market place via which one can make video caller rather phone calls for free via ggoogle voice. But they mentioned that its available only to US customrrs
I think this is only available to US customers, you can only call through gtalk to gtalk just like Skype. Gtalk call is very limited.

maybe soon Gtalk will release a better version but right now we have to deal with it. You can just use Skype for the meantime.

Hardly, I've using video calling on Gtalk via iChat, it works very well.
You can't call a service crap just because it doesn't offer a feature that you want (which it never advertised).
Well Google voice only runs in America.

Huh? I have perfect call quality with both google talk voice, and skype. You prob had bad internet at that moment. Maybe something updating.
If it's a girl, calling would be the classical way of doing it, but video chatting might be a little better... I don't know.
Yeah I guess

Video calling?

I've had my Incredible S for 3 days now and I absolutely love it.
It's my first Android phone so I'm still learning my way around, but one thing I can't find anywhere is video calling. Can someone please tell me how i start a video call?
Dont think its possible at the moment....the incredible S packs a front vga camera in preparation for android 2.3/3 as i believe google will roll out their next update with video calling as their new feature
I downloaded the Skype app too but there doesnt seem to be an option for a cam on that either. Maybe that is dependant on the OS too as I'm sure I read somewhere that video calling was possible with Skype.
No option for sending video on Skype for me either, but Video calling using Tango is great (except for some reason my send video is upside down !). Tango is great, and its cross platform.

So Froyo doesn't support video calling?
I can't believe they shipped the phone knowing that one of its main features would be unusable.
I guess i'll have to wait for the Q2 update.
Out of curiosity, is there any way to access the front-facing camera just for taking photos etc?

Yes, You can go into the camera app & click on settings. There is an option there to switch to front facing camera.
There's many programs to make video call.
Search on market for:
oovoo

yahoo messenger

Well, the Skype file is too large to load on here. It's the 3G version that has been floating around on other forms. I'm using it now and it works really well connected to my EVO. Also the NHL works well for live streams and videos full screen. PM if you need Skype apk and I'll email it to you.

Have you tried downloading spare parts from the market and disabling compatibility mode?
Good look. I forgot to mention that. I did that first before I installed the others. Make sure you get spare parts and uncheck compatibility mode.

No video and calls work over 3G and WIFI. The one from the market doesn't work over 3G. Not a big deal for some. I"m subscribed though, 30 a year unlimited calling. Saves me minutes to landlines.
I would suggest you take down root explorer, as its not free and considered warez.
