hello. i saw somewhere there was an app or something that can make your screen res so much better.... like certain apps that are on your homescreen that are long on their title fade out... wit this app it makes it show the whole thing? hope i am making sense lol. i saw it before i got my captivate and now that i have one i dont remember where i saw it and its driving me nuts! any help is appreciated!!!
It's called LCD Density. You need one of the apps that changes it.
LCD Density is the one that i have used... but it doesnt save the setting, so anytime you power off your phone and turn it back on, it goes back to its normal Res.
I used one once that had an Apply to Reboot option. Don't remember what it was called.
Lcd density. Paid version saves it. Well worth it. I cant use stock anymore. 190 is a good setting.
does anybody use that app? if so does it make a big difference? is it worth it?

yup. worth it and huge difference
I love LCD Density...really makes it look like a whole new thing...a must. I use 182 as my Contacts crash if I go any lower with my current beta ROM.
I used to do 160!

I have a sprint touch vogue so I don't know why it wont work. I am using myns rls3, flashed the 240×320 nbh and change lcd density to 110, even tried 113 but everything is just a tad bit off. Everything is a little stretched. I'm happy withe the 320×480, I can handle the barely noticeable blurriness. But when they fix the full market problem with 240×320 id like to switch. Anybody know why this wont display correctly?
Not a noob so I'm pretty damn sure I did everything right.
Thanks
Have you tried an LCD density of 120? Seems sharp to me.
Yeah it looked the same as 110 and 113. That is why I'm stumped at how this not working.

Did you reinstall the 240x320 version of myn's build?
I did not do that but all that does is change the lcd density. So I didn't bother

No offense, but are you sure? when i flashed from 240x320 to 320x480 to fix my market (without reinstalling the other build), some images were sized incorrectly. I guess that could have been density related, but it might be worth a shot or a pm to myn.
Myn uses custom fonts.
Switch back to standard android fonts supposedly fixes things. I don't know how or what files.
Perhaps an androidupdate.tar?
Lol yeah I'm positive. I've talked to myna about it and he suggested trying the 240×320 build but he also said that the only difference is the lcd density. I guess I could give it a try but I'm sure it wont be any different
OK I just flashed the latest 240×320 nbh and installed myns 240×320 build and still looks like crap! I give up. 320×480 looks pretty damn good anyways.
I ran 240 x 320 exclusively until about 2 weeks ago never had any problems. Did you blank your sd and re-install system and wipe data? Make sure you have the latest nbh. I keep both nbh's in seperate RUU folders on my desktop and update both as DZO releases new ones. When I went from 240 x 320 to 320 x 480 initially I did not install the new system and the icons were super small LOL
No I kept data. Don't think that would make a difference anyways. Maybe my phone is just drunk. I'll just stick with my current resolution.
Yeah I think I might switch back to 240 x 320. Game graphics are a bit crisper.
Just switched back no issues. I did not keep my data just copied all my apps to a folder on my sd.

I think keeping data may have part to do with it. If you don't mind backing up/restoring your apps/contacts I'd go ahead and try a fresh install. Fresh flash, fresh sys, fresh data.
Still don't think that will work but I'll give it a shot

Not yet cause I got to thinking, in or to do the full market trick you have to have a 320×480 data.

not an old one. you can just make a new one.
I'll give it a shot but I still don't see how wiping my data will make it look right. And the boot animation is cutt off a little.
OK, flashed 240×320 nbh, installed myns 240×320 build, wiped data. And it help but some stuff still looked bad! Like the text on the beautiful widget clock was overlapping the clock. The market was a little messed up. And some of the text was really blurry. My phone is not messed up and I did everything right. Guess I can never use 240×320
So now that I finally have my Nook rooted and running Custom Nookie Froyo im playing with it constantly. I noticed while looking at it next to my HTC Droid Eris that the Eris screen looks crisper and more colorfull. Obviously the Nook is much bigger but I began to wonder if it looked better with the original software than it does now. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? Could it be something that will improve as development of the software continues? Is there an app that will allow me to fine tune the colors?
I think the colors look great although it would be nice to be able to adjust them if you want. as far as i know there is no way to adjust at this time.
Im not complaining by any means but clearly next to my phone I can see a difference. Im thinking its simply because Froyo is scaled larger than Google intended which may cause the loss in crispness and color. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed and maybe had a theory as to why. Looks like Ill just stick to my theory and continue to enjoy this fantastic software on this fantastic device.

Have you adjusted LCD Density?
That's the first thing that came to mind when you said "loss in crispness".
Adjust screen?
This is what was brought up before while posters were talking wallpaper. How is this done? i'm going to check the menus now for density.....
I think it's just because froyo was never meant to stretch like this. I use CM7 which defaults to the ADW launcher and it looks crisp to me, but that launcher is also compatible with larger screens.
Well I seemed to have taken care of it. I was being thrown off by the lousy way it handles wallpaper. Using ES Explorer to set my wallpaper made a huge difference.
Even still how does one find the LCD density settings?

Or if you want to do it the manual way, and you have adb installed..
(on your computer)
Code:
adb pull /system/build.prop
then use a text editor to edit build.prop. Change the line with "density" (just do a search for it) from 160 or 169 or whatever to whatever value you want.
then, again on your computer
Code:
adb remount
adb push build.prop /system/
adb reboot
Is there any way/app to change the screen rotation delay?
Sometimes more delay would be nice, and on rare occations a shorter delay... ie, when my asswipe iphone fanboy friend of mine comments on how "slow" the phone are
I try to tell him its an delay that are set, and not lagg but deaf ears...
Anyone know ho to do this?
Anyone have any input?
I am 99 % sure you can't make the device delay the rotation
It only depends on the CPU speed and memory usage (RAM usage).
Only suggestion would be to make the phone lag which is always an horrible idea

+1. Don't really think that there will ever be such a feature as most users will not really use it haha. Faster is always better to me
Well.. how to make it respond quicker then?
Im not talking about lag or rotation speed.. im talking about the delay from the time i flipp the phone to the screen starts to rotate

First you want delay now you want it quicker???
Why do you need the delay and why do you need it to be quicker???
there probably will be a way to do it but to be honest no developer is going to sit down for hours trying to figure this out as there really is no need for it.

If You had read my first post You would see i asked for BOTH... what does it matter... sometimes like when I need a wider keyboard, i would like it to change quick... when in galery it would be nice... sometime it would be nice to have it as it is today or even a few ms slower.. say when your reading documents, playing games (when You move the phone alot and dont want it to change emediately..)
there are alot of reasons for this feature, just because You'r happy with the delay.. Hey!... some are even ok with the stock ROM... but i dont argue with them...
Anyone else that have any info?.. or atleast give me som pointers in the right direction.. maby i'll be able to figure it out myself... just does'nt know where to start....

Its possible....roman did it in the galaxy tab 10.1 pics aokp build with his from tools app..Not sure how
it is kind of possible (changing the screen rotation animation speed - making it look like instant rotate or slow screen rotate). Using Temaseks Kang with ICS transitions - you can go to "Spare Parts" app (downloadable via market in case you don't have it in your rom), scroll down to Transition animation and experiment. I'd guess it's not the solution you wanted, but close enough.
A smart App on the Market available for free : SmartRotator
You can choose which applications enables/disables the screen rotation
I use it since few days, it does it job.
(Don't remember if it needs root access or not, but I don't think so)

Hi..
I've searched about this LCD Density setting and found that it works on other devices.
But I'm not succeed with my Optimus 2X, I use 2-3 tools from Market, none of them works (the value is resetted to 240 after reboot).
So, do someone know how to do this? please share to us..
Note: I haven't touch build.prop manually.. .. still not that comfy editing text settings directly .. will try that later..
Thanks!

Edit build.prop
Just change the line lcddensity=240 to whatever you want, I personally use 200 and it stays after every reboot.
If using the new market you might run into to "app not compatible with your device" after changing the density - it can be worked around using an older market (I use 2.3.6)

hi, all..
yes, finally i've decided to edit it manually ..
215 is the best for me (well, I just try 200, 190, 215.. .. for me 200 is a little bit blurry on font).
@rQvsnaps: after install that old market, did you stop market updater?
@pa.pn2: what's your app name? there's some LCD Density at market.
@shpapy: well, actually 215 is pretty good for me. Not too small, not too big (it displayed as small as my wife Ideos X5 3.7" -normal density- , but mine have extra line to view.. hey, our's is 4" ) ..
But I can't update some of my app; I know that there's some problem with installing app, but I think I can install them via web Market, just didn't think that it will prevent update too .. silly me..
So for now, I go back to 240.. hopefully there's some way for spoofing Market (or use older Market.. just wait for rQvsnaps feedback ).
Just freeze MarketUpdater.apk in Titanium backup and then uninstall updates of Market in Application manager in Android settings
Thank Rusty for this tip

But still can updated manually (search them & click update) rather than New Market (it's showing "Not Compatible").
For now.. I revert to 240 density.. but keep the old market .. like it better.. (faster, snappier)..
Thanks..

Yeh lcd density isn't advised for this phone strange though since most of the other android out there are fine with it I changed it in my old x10 pro and it was fine

.. yeah.. for me it's not about the launcher, but for app (messages, taking notes)
I think this 4" screen should show more items than bigger items ..
Hi guys ive changed lcd density to 215 but the dockbar isnt on the right place its like it is surrounded by black border
Simply said it is to small
Any ideas?
Sry for my english^^

@selami023: what's your launcher? I use LP and all is good.
i use toppogi rom its the LG launcher also the dial pad is not shown correctly, but denisty 215 looks very good, so hopefully we will find a solution.^^
selami023
yeah, it's looks very good ...
for me, the main problem is app update from market.
using old market, I have no problem with installing any new app, but my installed app (which listed not compatible) won't update (not listed in "My Apps").
I tried a lot of lcd density changers and no one seemed to work. It's better to just edit the build.prop because that works everytime you do it (remember to restart your device after you changed it). If you really want to use an app: The only app that could change my lcd density was ROM toolbox but I recommend to change the lcd density in build.prop.

arcee: the star, the galaxy R, and the grand X are completely different devices. different components, different resolutions, different radios, different audio amps, different panel manufacturers, different almost everything. The designs have nothing in common other than being T2

Hey Guys.
I have recently discovered how to change my LCD density using Rom Toolbox. I have changed it to make everything smaller, kind of zoomed out. I was so happy until I wasn't able to install apps off of Google Play. My question is: why does LCD density mess up market downloads and can it have a negative impact on the device? IE: does the screen have to constantly re-draw to set to new density?
If anyone is knowledgeable about how LCD density (build.prop) effects the device, can you please post below with your smartness Thanks.
i have seen how this work in my galaxy s where they had higher density roms.
i dont think it can actually hurt your device.
i have tried it on an ics rom on my n1 and i dont experience any trouble to install apps from play. may be its gb problem or specifically your rom?
actually i was surprised how well the system adapted to the new settings
except a few graphical artifacts everything looks ok.
btw i used 200 value on medroid 6.1 if i remember correctly.

Yea, I tried lowering the density and I couldn't install any apps off of the market. I had to set back, reboot, and clear Play's data in order to download more apps. Happened to me on CM7.2, not sure if it is a rom limited problem or if that's just how it is.
The apps themselves aren't coded for such low (or high) pixel density for your device.
