So I'm curious to find out what it is in custom ROM's that make the battery drain faster than when you are running the stock ROM.
When I am using the stock ROM, my battery only drains a couple percent OVERNIGHT. When using a custom ROM (Cognition for example), the battery drains about 20%..
So, what is the culprit here that does this? Am I the only one (please tell me no )

This is actually the opposite for me. My battery would never last overnight on the stock rom.

Battery drain usually only happens when you flash a rom and your battery is not at 100%. After you flash you should let the battery die before your next charge at least one or two times so the android system can create a correct battery stats file. If you flash at 100 and charge at 30% thats how much battery life your phone will think the battery can last. Just my .02 I always had bad battery life (10-12 hrs). Since I started doing it this way My battery life has doubled

Hello,
I was wondering if i did something wrong when flashing, I flashed me phone yesterday, love the rom, but the battery life stinks, today I have been off the charger for 3 hrs, 1 20 min phone call and check download my email and my battery is at 73%. This morning before I unplugged my charger I went into oxdin and removed battery stats to see if that helped, any advise would be helpful, I did flash to stock with oden3 one click and I had 85% battery and plugged in charging when I flashed to this rom. I want to keep this rom as it is super fast and no issues found other than the battery
Thanks in advance for any help

I would give it another day or so. It can take it a little while for the battery to settle in. if that doesn't work you could try flashing another kernel or modem.
Just a few opinions...

yes like the previous post
you have wait for few days cz it takes tym recalibrate battery stats. couple of charges and discharges will fix the battery drain
Thank you,
I'll give it a few days and see if it fixes itself, this is the best rom I have tried and would hate to have to change as everything with it is how I would do it if I had a clue how to custom a rom
Thanks
Tony
Like the others have said give it a few days, my battery life VASTLY improved after 3 discharge cycles. Also, another thing to check is the cell standby and make sure that you're not having the 50% time without signal bug. I had that this morning and it drained 20% in barely over an hour.
hi,
i installed the new criskelo rom, v23. and for some reason the battery drains super-fast.
i've got android OS taking half the battery and drains it in about 10 hrs.
that makes no sense.
anyone?
Same problem, with stock rom though. I think it happens after starting Google maps. Investing at the moment.....

@OP
Probably messed up battery meter, let it drain to 1% or so and charge it fully, after 2-3cycles you should get good battery life
Hi,
Just a quick one and any responses from personal experiance would be great.
Has anyone used an app to re-calibrate the battery? If so did it help or did it seem to make the battery life worse?
I had a major drain on my battery so did a complete reinstall of tweaky ROM and the drain has stopped. Just wondering if I should bother to recalibrate
Thanks

Calibration did not help me, I have the same stamina... JVH + Criskelo v56 + CF-Root 3.2
from those many many times i have tried to do calibration in all possible ways that has being suggested even waiting a few days for the cycle to end...
my conclusion its bull**** it depends on the rom or apps that are running ....
the only thing it does it shows u 100% when u finish charging in case u dont see it already.
Does it work or does waiting two weeks for battery to settle down work .
jje
My findings are similar to JJE. After flashing a ROM, it will take 4-5 charge cycles (just charging every night, nothing special....may run down to 0% after first charge) before I see a stable, decent battery life.

Ditto, I try not to judge a ROMs battery appetite until about a week, espescially if I was to lazy to flash at 100%.. But I think that is what is meant by battery calibration..
Ok thanks guys, think I'll wipe battery stats next time I flash a new ROM 100% battery

I'm running an un-modded MIUI ROM from MIUI[dot]us and basically the battery drain is becoming an issue to which I assume its kernel and theme related. Basically has anyone got any suggestions to a compatible battery saving kernel that can aid my issue? Whilst I was on the phone now for 30 minutes it apparently used 40% battery. Thanks for the help in advance
Use the Battery Calibration App from the market. IT wtll fix your battery stats after flashing.

I noticed it too. One week ago I was using gingerbread, which the battery lasted for about 24 hours with the same use as now with MIUI [ICS] 4.0.3 that lasts for about 18 hours.
I calibrated the battery two times, it helped a bit.

Hello.
I was a PA 1.6 and PA 2.X user since last week, when I decided to install stock ROM to check if battery life would improve.
I've been trying different ROMs and realized that battery performance was worst,so I decided to check stock ROM to see if I could get any improvents in battery life.
Yesterday I installed SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS stock ROM, but during the night I lost 50% of the battery (I didn't turn Flight Mode on) and now it's draining at 3.5%-5% battery per hour.
I reinstalled the RADIO, but I cannot understand how stock ROM + RADIO can have this much of battery drainage.
Any ideas on what can be happening and how can I solve this?
The only thing left is to format all SD partitions and pray.
try slim bean with sync off and just 3g
and check ur battery
if it presists then try flashing xxlrk or xxlr1 modem

go read the sticky on wakelocks
Have you checked the battery section of settings to see what are the apps drawing the battery? install betterbatterystats and head over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878828 to understand whats going on

Yes, I already bought better battery stats but haven't find any wakelock issue... it looks as if it got normalized and now I'm getting 1.5 % per hour, which seems pretty decent...
