Voicemail problem is fixed, so please if you could, just skip to where it says "EDIT"
Ok so whenever I get a voicemail, it appears in the notifications bar, but when I click it, it dials the number to get voicemail service and then tells me my inbox is empty. This entire system is pretty damn stupid. Wouldn't it be easier, the way you'd normally do it on the phone, you just go to the voicemail app, and then proceed to listen to whatever voicemail you want to listen to? And for the past like 2 weeks, I've only had the same amount of voicemails (9) and it keeps bringing up the damn notification every few minutes. Can't change the settings on it to make it stop, and at the same time, I can't listen to the fcking messages it's telling me that I have received. Please can someone help me?
EDIT: I should also add that all day today, ADW Luncher and something called "ascore" keep force closing. Pretty annoying and I really can't do anyhting at all because when one isn't force closing, the other is. Wtf. And I've tried rebooting 3 times.
You can get the original Sprint Visual Voicemail app from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774172
Although I don't know why even when it dials your voicemail inbox, you don't hear your voicemails... that's very odd.
Also, if ADW Launcher is giving you problems you could try LauncherPro instead, which is quite similar and perfectly stable in my experience.

Well thank you for the voicemail link, but I can't try that out until I fix the ADW Launcher problem. And when I said I can't do anything, I meant I literally cant do anything. Like, my screen is practically frozen. I was going to try downloading a new home launcher, but I can't do anyyythingg. Ahhh this is so frustrating..
I am having issues with voicemail too in cm6. Sprint app didn't work for me. Adw may be fixed by dalvik wipe and apk uid mismatch fix in recovery always fixed my fc issues.

Will I have to re-install all my apps again?
You will not have to reinstall with just a dalvik wipe. The 9016 message I found out is a provisioning error on sprints end. I had to call in to get it corrected.

You all are talking about different things here!
Sprint uses a SMS voicemail system. The stock HTC rom would receive the SMS message in the background and filter it from the messaging apps, download the voicemail message into visual voicemail and then notify you when the voicemail was in your inbox.
If you change to ANY asop ROM (not just CM6) your phone will not filter the SMS from Sprint which comes from number 9016. If you have installed Sprint VVM the best way to deal with this is to use Handecent and blacklist 9016 then you won't be bothered by it.
If you are not receiving your voicemail you are not properly provisioned and all you need to do is dial *38.
The worst problem is if you are cursed with the voicemail notification "New Voicemail Message Dial..." There is no fix for this. Sense based ROMs filter this, asop ROMS don't and there is no clear way to get rid of it.
Ok well I tried the dalvik wipe...4 times...none of them worked, at all. And I figured out that even other home launchers are force closing on my phone. I tried to use BetterHome and it started force closing repeatedly too. Please, someone has to know what to do, I'm really f*cking sick of not being able to use my phone. Nothing but problems with this PoS phone, ever since I got it...
Edit: Well, I decided to just wipe my phone and install CM6 AGAIN....hopefully it doesn't act up this time. I don't even know why it happened, I've had it for like a month now and it was working perfectly..

I cannot seem to send sms messages when I install handcent on this phone. Mms work fine, and I can receive all day. Not sure why, has anyone else seen this?

that's interesting cuz i was having similar issues as well.. not all the time, but just had that first occurence yesterday. Have you tried sending a message and waiting for the "spinning" timer disappear before exiting the convo?
I have used handcent since day one with the phone and have had no issues. Im not sure what may be wrong with yours but maybe wait until the circle stops spinning like ^^ said

Yeah, I have. It works fine on my gf fascinate, but not mine. Funny thing is, I've gone all the way back to stock and still won't work. Maybe a network profile thing.

I have a similar problem except SMS works fine for me but I cannot receive MMS messages. I can send MMS fine though... I hope 2.2 will fix it.
Daswolven,
Aren't you the same person that posted that thread about removing junk apps? I think some of those VZWSMS apk's you deleted might be affecting your ability to text because I removed everything VZW.apk and had too many issues with texting such as receiving the same message 30x's, people receiving an error message saying I never received their message even though I did, etc... So I reflashed an ODIN file and only removed the obvious apps such as Bing, Blockbuster, etc. Phone has been perfect with handcent since then. The stock messaging app will not tell you which exact message failed to be sent which is why I went with handcent.
ithecho84 ,
Contact tech support and have the "flush" out your cell number. I had the same problem with my DROID and they did something to the switch in the network and I have never had an issue with MMS ever again.

I am the same person.
I also know exactly what the apps I remove do.
None of the apps I removed affect sms to cause the issues I am having.
My g/f has the same phone. I have removed the same apps on hers, she doesn't have the issues.
I have a buddy with a droid incredible on CM6, he flashed a new radio and couldn't text his GF, but only her.
I have another friend with a Droid2 who cannot use handcent.
The handcent boards have posts from people on every network with various phone who have various issues.
I never had a problem with handcent on my N1.
So then, Mr. Logic boy. Put that together for me with the pieces I have given you.
let me know what you come up with.
P.S.: You may have missed the "I went back to stock and it still didn't work" part of This Thread.
Make sure the stock Mms.apk app is there, reboot and give it a try. I also saw a few days ago you moved the sns apps off - out of curiosity, do you know what these do? For some reason I left them in there. I know you said you went back to stock and all, but I had some issues when I tried to get rid of the stock Mms.apk. That's all I can think of. Outside of that, try doing a logcat while sending a text to see what the logs say.

The sns enable the syncing with the integrated Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace clients into your address book and the TouchWiz widgets. I have no use for these, as to me it's unnecessary contact clutter, and sync drain to boot.
The stock Mms app can be replaced, and has been, but I use the stock for the ability to select multiple recipients which is absent in the Android stock mms.
I haven't figured out all the differences between the Verizon and T-mo network stuff yet, but I will do some research as I have time, because I am 90% sure my problem lies there. The tech support I've been able to get through to seems uninterested in any kind of in depth troubleshooting, instead urging me to replace the handset, which I will not do.
I had same issue and I uninstall and put it back without using the back up data from a back up . Worked great .

If you look at your contacts and see an + in front Example (+1-555-555-5555) it will not send. Im coming from GSM service so I had to re-edit all my contacts and remove all the + symbol from the front. It worked for me. Hope this helps with any SMS issues not just directly to Handcent.

I was wondering if you resolved your problem with Handcent? I have a problem now where if I try and attach a picture to a mms directly from the camera Handcent force closes. I tried the same thing with the stock MMS and same result. I went to Rom Manager and downloaded the MMS.apk for the ROM that I am running. I tried it again on Handcent, same result, but I was able to do it from the stock MMS I downloaded. I personally like all the options that Handcent has and would like to know if you have any suggestions regarding my problem.
Yeppers. Whatever the issue was stopped after I changed my methods of building from stock a bit.
Never managed to pin point it.

I'm confused by the notes about the "+" in front of phone numbers? Why would you have a "+" like that, and what does that have to do with GSM? Furthermore, can you send a text to these numbers with the stock Messaging app, but NOT Handcent? Or does it work in neither? Thanks.
If you find a specific, reproduceable issue with Handcent though, especially if you know the cause, let me know if you want, because I've been working with one of the developers (or the developer, I'm not sure) - Jack, directly and frequently. I'm the one that cleaned up the Handcent forums to get rid of all the spam threads/users recently (if you've ever been there, you'll know how horrible it was prior), and helped him get it changed over to SMF from phpbb2, etc. I'm also a mod on the forums there, and I've been testing a few bugs directly with him, on beta builds of Handcent. So I can certainly bring something to his attention directly if it warrants it.
I am not so sure if this is double SMS notifications or a random notification from somewhere else, but here is the situation...I upgraded to CM7 and installed Handcent right away. Disabled the stock notifications and that worked no problem, I was only getting one notification from Handcent as expected. Then I got to setting up Google Voice to use for my voicemail. After doing that, now any time I receive a text message, I get two notifications: one from Handcent (I can tell based on the icon and such) and one from somewhere random (when I click this notification, it pops up something asking me where I want to open it - Google Voice, Handcent, or the stock app). Even if I select Handcent, it will still send the two notifications and the second one will still look different (it just says "New Message" and then the phone number) I have even gone as far as completing uninstalling Google Voice and changing my voicemail back to the standard setup and I still get the random notification.
My question - where the heck is this second notification coming from? Is the fact that it started happening after I installed Google Voice just a coincidence or is GV sending it somehow? I have searched a bunch on different notifications from both GV and the stock app and I have all the correct settings in both (or so I think, at least...) Just looking to see if anyone has dealt with this.
Its from voice. Check your settings and I think you can disable it.
In the voice app, menu>settings>sync and notifications
Disable the notify by text and voice will not send you one. Also, you can disable inbox notification and it shouldn't pop up anything.

This didn't seem to solve the issue either. I tried the reflashing route I mentioned and installed things in a different order this time around: first installed Google Voice, then texted some texts and voicemails. All notifications were perfect. So then I installed Handcent, and thats when I started receiving the second notification again (again popping up with with Handcent, regular messaging, and GV as the options to choose from). So I uninstalled Handcent and the notification persisted. Uninstalled GV and it still persisted (although this time it just opened in the Messaging app since the other two were uninstalled).

This issue has been bugging me for quite some time now. I can't access the dialer at all. Clicking phone numbers through a text or a website results in the same message popping up and then closing. The 'Dialer' app will appear for a split second followed by the error. The only way I have been able to make calls is to save the number and calling them through 'Contacts' or the call button from Hangouts.
What is also weird is that from the lock screen I can access 'Emergency call' with no issues. Never had this issue prior to updating to 4.4 (Also, the caller ID feature isn't enabled or there for some reason..). Stock with unlocked bootloader, no root. Switching back to Dalvik from ART didn't resolve it either. However, I had the same issue with my GNex but I had that phone rooted with CM 10.2 Nightlies so I assumed the issue was with the roms.
Anyone have a fix for this issue (other than installing a 3rd party dialer app)?

Yeah I had the same problem. I ended up uninstalling youmail and I got in touch with them on their getsatisfaction.com forum. They pushed out an update, uninstalling and reinstalling with the new update fixed the problem for me.
so on kitkat i had the voicemail icon stuck. i use google voice, and i think this is just a standard verizon voicemail icon. i've checked and there are no new voicemails.
i figured when i upgraded to lollipop it would go away. well guess what, it didn't. so i did a factory reset, and now it's back.
i found that by deleting the data and wiping the cache on one of the 4 phone apps, i'm able to get rid of it, but then when i reset the device it comes back.
any help please!!!!

What happens if you go to settings-apps-voicemale untick show notification?
Have you maybe disabled the default messaging app?
The verizon system voicemail notifications come through to your phone as an encoded txt message, so if the messaging app isn't correctly parsing those to the system, it may not clear the voicemail icon.

i have disabled the both the verizon and motorola native messaging apps. i use hangouts. any suggestion on how to correct the messaging apps?
To test that theory, enable the Verizon messaging app again, then have someone leave you a voicemail. Call your voicemail and delete it. It should clear the voicemail notification. Then you can probably disable it again and see if it still happens the next time someone leaves a voicemail for you.

Oh, and check that it really is the Verizon voicemail indicator. In your notifications, hold your finger down on the notification, then touch the "i" that comes up.

It was. Weird thing happened, I apparently had a voicemail--once I listened to and deleted that, the app started opening again. Really strange.
Is it stock? If you flashed something, like a ROM or an app, it is probably that and you need to (clean?) re-flash the ROM. Happened to me before on another phone when I flashed, and a re-flash fixed it. NVM, seems you have it working now.

I had the same issue seems like the phone app can't handle voicemail. I turned off visual voicemail to see if I can isolate the issue. Let's see what happens. BTW does anyone know if the source code of phone app is opensource or not?
EDIT: I think I know what the issue is, the voicemail I received was from a private number (VOIP). Looks like visual voicemail was unable to determine the caller number and died (I did not look into the logs but I am fairly certain about it).

I had the same issue. It turns out that I had a voicemail that was not deleted from an "unknown" number (t-mobile usa). The phone app was not able to handle it and crashed. I am assuming the phone number field was empty and whatever data that was there in its place from next field simply corrupted its memory or caused it to segv. I think this is just a bug in their phone app. In order to replicate the issue, just have someone block and send the voicemail to them and try opening the app, it crashes without any incident. Is there a way to see any exception thrown? or is that not on the consumer build?
