I have an HTC Hero CDMA (obviously, since I'm posting in this forum...) with CM6 on it. I sent myself an email with two APK files attached. One of them shows the Android logo with a paperclip, the file name, the size, and an open and save button. The other one just shows the logo w/clip, name, and size. No open or save button. They are both the same file type so it's not a type issue. The only difference between them would be the filesize. The one I can open is 216kb, the one I can't is 6mb. Is the 6mb one too large? How can I get that to open or save?
Thanks

Another thing is that it selcts more than one folder... the first folder is selcted and when I touch an other folder it also select that folder... (like ctrl on an regular pc)
When I write a text message it automaticly gives returns.....
Thanks in advance

Hi all, i have a question with the battery calibration app step..
2. Navigate to sys>devices>platform>ds2784-battery>setreg>long press>open in text editor, then:
a. set your aEvolts to 3201 (type 0x66 a4 in setreg & save/exit)
i have no problem finding the file but when i go to it and long press how do i open in text editor.. i tried a few different text editor apps and it didnt seem to help i get an error.. thnx
i got the file to open with quick office but it seems blank.. is it supposed to be?
im 90% sure its not supposed to be blank im having the same problem. Ive tried to open the file with 2 text editing programs and its still blank so idk what to do from there.
It's supposed to be blank. You enter the register data into the blank file and save it, and that sends the command to the battery.
Root explorer is what I use, long press, open in text editor.
But we are working on updating the app with setreg so you can just do it easier from the app rather than needing to use setreg. Coming soon.
i can't find the path:
Navigate to sys>devices>platform>ds2784-battery>setreg
i'm using and explorer
you must be running one of the supported kernels to see the file in ds2784. cyan, pershoot, etc. which kernel are you running?
Hey, all work for me now. I'm now in the Tread from you signature active.
Tanks
When I go to gallery and see the selections for all photos, camera shots, then the various picture folders on my vivid, what is the factor that chooses which picture is the cover thumbnail for that folder? I know for camera shots it's the most recent one, but I can't determine what it is for the others. I'd like to manipulate a dummy photo so that it's always the cover thumbnail in a few of my "other" folders!
I can't find an option to change the top picture. You may have to get another album from the play store.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
Another album meaning replacement app for "gallery"?
There must be a method to the way the top picture is chosen, whether it be size, date taken, name? Ideally is like to be able to sequester certain folders from showing up at all in the gallery, accessible only by file explore r!

Have you tried creating a blank '.nomedia' file in that dir? Just a thought...
I've changed the name of some pictures before however it doesn't affect which one is selected for thumbnail view. in root explore, the folder is listed alphabetically but in gallery view it seems to be by date created?..
Is there a way I can edit a jpg file so that it says it was created in say 2005 for example? Hopefully this will allow me to choose which file is the thumbnail

Can you go to the My Pictures/Pictures folder on your PC and find an old picture - one older than the ones in your album(s)? I know I have photos 8-9 years old on my PC.
Using Windows you can edit the "date taken" by right-clicking, properties, Details tab, edit Date Taken field. Apply. OK. See if that works
Every time I take an older picture and copy it into this folder, it changed the date modified field to todays date, which makes it no longer an older picture! I even created a new folder and copied all the pictures over, with the one I wanted as the cover first, but it reverted to the same order it was in before!
On my work laptop with windows seven I'm not able to edit the date fields, I can change some other info on the file but right clicking or double clicking the date doesn't do anything.
So this is not possible to change the picture that shows up as the cover of the folder album!

Try the QuickPic app. It's free I believe. I got it because the HTC Gallery app was displaying my shots in random order, not in the order I took them. See if QuickPic works better.
Looks better! Thanks for the tip. Any way to set it to default over "gallery?"
Like when the camera is open and I click the pictures that have been taken it opens gallery

I don't see a way to change the association between the camera app and the gallery app, both from HTC. You can associate QuickPic with photos. Using a file explorer app (I use Astro), go to a folder containing photos. Long press on one file name. You will be prompted to select from Gallery or Quickpic. Check the default checkbox and then select Quickpic. This may, or may not, help some.
As for date changes on the files when you transfer them, try Dropbox or a similar app. I use it for moving files between my PC and phone. The file dates don't change.
I really miss my Resco Photo Manager from my old Windows Mobile phone. It is much better than any Android apps I have used.
Thanks, I have drop box I'll try that!
any way to enlarge the photos IN Gallery? before the ICS update the gallery was easier to see all the pictures.. but now its smaller and hard to make them out before opening it
GOAL: Set my own picture that appears when connect it to PC.
I delete default pictures in
Code:
./system/media/screensaver/authors/
I copy to this folder my own images. Change permissions. But if I connect nook to computer I get black screen. Somebody do that?
(main screensaver work good)
That screensaver system on the Nook is overly complicated and poorly implemented.
In many cases where it screws up it falls back on a fallback image.
The very specific fallback is the Brontë sisters.
The more general fallback is the /system/media/screensavers/authors folder.
If you want to keep your life simple, just delete all the contents of that folder and
put in a copy of your own screensaver in there (named anything).
I delete all content of this folder.
I only have blank /authors/ folder
I copy my own pictures. (same I have in media/screensaver)
Still have only black screen, when connect it to PC.
Sorry, I'm confused. Do you mean the popup that says "USB Mode"?
That only covers the center of the screen, the rest should be whatever was there already.
That image is /res/drawable-mdpi/ic_dialog_usb.png in framework-res.apk
no no, i mean the whole screen background. -the screensaver activated few minutes after i connect nook to PC.
Default it show the writers photo.
After I delete it from ./system/media/screensaver/authors/ it show only black screen.
Oh, screensave while USB mounted on a PC?
What exactly do you have in /system/media/screensavers/authors/
Are you sure that the images are good?
Just put one PNG in that directory and make sure that it's not screwed up.
There is also the screensave directories on /media and on /sdcard/My Files
The .PNG is the problem, i think.
In normal screensaver folder /media/screensaver/ i have .JPEG and work it.
Either should work.
I use only PNGs.
So, I use .PNG,.GIF images, but don't work. - I got black screen.
Images have correct dimension. I don't know where is problem.
I have no idea what is going on here.
All screensavers must have their own named directory.
Delete all that junk and put one PNG in
/system/media/screensaver/authors/whatever.png
This should be the only file in this directory.
Notice /system/media/screensaver vs. /media/screensavers
Go into settings and make sure that you have authors selected as your screensaver.
Sorry nothing work.
Code:
For full understanding
1. Connect NST to PC
2. Wait until it show USB conected
3. Lock screen by back button
4. That picture I mean
I don't understand at all what you mean.
If you take a Nook, plug it into a PC a popup appears, "USB Mode".
While that popup is up, no button, even the "n" button, has any effect.
If you are using Button Saviour or something to go back, that's another matter.
Then you are completely screwing up the internal state of the Nook.
Why would you want to do a "back" operation while the Nook is mounted on a PC?
Press the bottom button, not the "n".
Than you see the different screensaver. (default).
The button only lock screen imidiatly. -after period time it auto lock
Do you mean the power button on the back of the Nook?
Yes
Change the permission of the image and make it "rw-r--r--". I got mine to work after I did that.

For what it's worth (I know, this thread is so old), it was possible to change the default Bronte image screensaver by just putting my preferred image in the ./system/media/screensaver folder as the "default.png" file, after I renamed the original. No need to make a new folder, or delete anything from the authors folder, just swap out the existing default.png in ./system/media/screensaver with the image file of your choice (within the proper size/format ratios). In Settings, my screensaver is set to use ./media/screensaver/dontpanic/dontpanic.jpg. The dontpanic.png file was just converted from the dontpanic.jpg file into dontpanic.png and renamed default.png and dropped into ./system/media/screensaver folder.

I did the same thing (with the same pic, LOL). For good measure, I also swapped out bronte from the Authors folder, and set my screensavers to Authors. That was actually my main reason for keeping my Nook rooted -- I needed my scrensaver!

This is a really old thread but I just found the answer to a question I posted recently in the line quoted directly above! But......where is the "res" directory?? I'm using Root Browser and don't see it at all.
(I can also confirm that changing the permissions of the "default.png" [or a renamed "Bronte_Sisters.png"] as described earlier in this thread works like a charm. Sure looks better than that black screen!)
.apk files are actually zip files.
/res is a directory inside the .apk file.
To change normal (not foo.9.png) images you just need a zipper.
framework-res.apk has all the little icons and stuff.
Screensavers and power down screens are elsewhere.
