[Q] Changing resolution moves desktop icons - Shift Development

Everything is working on my Windows 7 Shift, and I use it every day, it is such an awesome computer and still rules Starbucks.
I have one quirky issue that shouldn't really happen. On 800x480 resolution I have a moderate number of desktop icons, but they fit easily on the desktop at this resolution.
When I change to 1024x800, the bottom row of the icons moves one line down. Grrrr! Why does it do that? I always move this offending row back up to it's correct position, but this reoccurrs every time I change resolution.
Why don't my fourth row desktop icons stay putt??
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

New WM 6.5 Titanium Theme

Hello everyone,
Just finished another version of Titanium Themes I am working on. I have portrait & landscape cabs for: VGA, WVGA, QVGA & WQVGA.
The .cab changes your titanium text to icons only, the background, taskbar, etc will not be changed.
Note that I do like the text, however, the icons allow for a more visible background.
Themes are thanks to twolf & mallman as it could not have been completed without them.
I suppose we can call QVGA & WQVGA official, no weather or Opera support now though I do intend to add them ...one of these years.
Downloads attached in this post. Betas are thanks to OndraSter.
You may lock up your phone & have to clear storage, so I recommend you back up first.
A new not so beta WVGA has been added for download. Note the home tab is slightly different (4th screen). Support for Opera & a few other plugins was added so long as you install your plugins first. Lastlly you won't have the Neuropol font, which is only attached to the home tab, unless you add it to \windows\fonts\. I dunno if I can attach it here or not so here's a link to dload it for now: http://www.dafont.com/neuropol.font
Background for VGA screens are from SsS (by Deck on PPC) rom default, stated made by jbchow.
Please feel free to modify & repost this theme as long as it is free.
Enjoy!
very slick
very impressive! Could you upload your wallpaper as well?
This looks good. I didn't like the large text, so reduced it...but your idea of having icons is perhaps even better. I wonder if there is a way to show the icon and when you put u drag the bar, if the icon + text can show. I'll give it a shot when I have some free time.
Thanks
SeanFromSoCal: You should be able to do both. I was thinking about changing the icon to text only when highlighted myself. However, the preview of messages, etc is the only reason I stray from doing so.
My next icon only theme will remove at least one of the secondary icons. You may have noticed the time/alarm was slightly lower than the other icons, it is my intention to release a set without the time/alarm icons on the time bar to better show backgrounds.
eleguent: About the background question, apologies as it is not mine to give, however, you could extract it from the SsS rom here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=68755
oldsap: Thank you!
Thanks everyone, I hope the set is enjoyed. Also, please feel free to rip this thing apart & reuse it to your pleasure so long as you keep it free.
ok realease on qvga NOW i love it

Okay, about 2/3 done with the qvga & noticed an issue with the alarm icon on vga version which I will work out as soon as I am done with qvga.
Update: Alarm only shows if you have alarms set, lol, man am I a winner. W & QVGA's betas posted, definite issues with WQVGA landscape, wip.

I'm with you. In attempts to maximize the amount of background shown I also tried messing around with the layer heights. I was trying to make the ClockExpanded height nearly full screen and leaving all the other layers their current height, but the Titanium doesn't appear to let you have different height attributes. When I make all of the plugin heights larger (trying to get fullscreen/near fullscreen plugins), the text would get distorted.
Stupid M$! Fix your Titanium UI to make it recognize all XML attributes so we can full flexibility.
am waiting lool
ive installed the cab but cant see it in the list of themes.
am i doing something wrong?

I believe you may not be using the windows default (titanium theme).
The theme should appear when you check "Windows Default" in you Today settings.
Please let me know how it goes.

You could do that by shifting the images of the clock plugin outside the panel and insert above the clock plugin some blank plugins so the text of the other condensed plugins does not come in the way.
How bout in WQVGA PLEASE

Omnislash Live Wallpaper! Download link/instructions included!

Hello everyone! New to the forums here and JUST rooted my Aria over the weekend. In my personal way of giving back I'd like to make available this sweet Omnislash live wallpaper I put together. In order to use the wallpaper, you need the app LWP Creator from the app store. If you can't find it in the app store for what ever reason you can alternatively navigate to this webpage:
http://www.simproduction.com/lwpcreator.html
on your phones browser. Then click the link ownload me (Android only link)
This will take you to the application in the market. Download and Install.
Next you'll need to download my Omnislash folder which simply contains the live wallpaper frame by frame in .png format. You can download that here:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/orzyp29tk2w2rd9/omnislash.zip
After you download the folder, unzip it and move it to your phone's SD Card.
I recommend putting it in the Download folder on the SD Card to make it easy to find but you can put it anywhere you like.
Once it's on your SD Card disconnect your phone from your computer and let the SD Card remount on the phone. Then, on the main screen on your phone, tap and hold on any blank area. As if you were adding a widget or application, and scroll down to wallpapers on that menu.
Then scroll down to live wallpapers at the bottom of the next menu. If you don't see the live wallpapers option the livewallpapers.apk is not installed on your phone. If you need help installing that just post, I or someone here will help you.
In the live wallpapers you should see an option called LWP Creator. If you do not see this option you do not have the LWP Creator app installed (See above). If you do have the app installed, tap the LWP Creator. There should be some yellow text on the screen talkin some nonsense about folder paths. Ignore that.
Tap settings on the bottom right. In this menu make sure "Sd card?" is checked which it should be by default. Then tap folder path just below it. Navigate to where you put the Omnislash folder on your SD Card. After you find the folder, tap it.
You should now see several files named 01.png 02.png 03.png etc... Select the third option on the bottom of the screen called select all. There should now be a red X next to all of the png files. Now tap Submit, the left option.
It will now take you back to the main settings screen. Here you can edit the framerate of the wallpaper and the Placement and Sizing. I just set the frame rate to 60 fps and that looks nice. It still looks nice on lower frame rates and lower framerates are more battery efficient.
Then on the Placement and Sizing option, select Middle (No resizing). After setting the options tap the back button on the phone and you should see the animation playing! If so tap the set wallpaper button on the bottom left and watch as Cloud Strife rapes face behind all your awesome apps. If you didn't see the animation you did something wrong and need to read all this again -.-
I hope who ever uses this enjoys it, I know I do. And thanks again for all the people that helped me make my Aria as awesome as it should be,
Enjoy!!!
Here is a link to the video I used to make the wallpaper. The wallpaper plays from 1:02 to the end of the video. It does not include the little screen that the person put in that video if you happen to see that when you click at 1:02...

Since no one has commented id like to be the first to say that its amazing great job i just wish there was a way the images could fit the whole screen

First off, thanks for the reply! I was beginning to think there were no FF7 fans on here... heresy I know... Secondly, it does in fact hit the whole screen! Return to the LWP Creator via the method explained above. When you enter the settings screen, look for a scaling option. I made the wallpaper to fit perfectly in landscape mode, I'm guessing it's not fitting because you use your phone in portrait mode, I still have all of the original files, I guess I can also upload a portrait version, will post a link soon. Thanks again for enjoying it!
Ugh, nevermind... Sorry, but resizing the video for portrait mode makes it stretch in an ugly way. It's basically the same as the normal wallpaper viewed in portrait mode, only stretched vertically a bit more, still has black bars on the top and bottom... Unless you REALLY want it I'm going to hold off on making it...
If you're using CM6, R01, you could do what I do and use the phone in constant landscape mode. The ADW allows for the actions on upswipe and down swipe motions on the screen. I have my phone set to only 1 home screen, so no scrolling.
Then, I have the 5 ADW action buttons over on the right, they also have no background and look very nice. (click link for pic!)
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?0e42r757wh26xsu
Then when I slide down, those 5 disappear and 5 new ones appear with the faded black on the right. (click link for pic!)
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?9p09c9d6con9297
Then sliding up on the home screen brings up my app drawer. (click link for pic!)
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?khy9fg14x56gldg
Also, I have the Power management widget with a transparent background off to the left. This setup makes it very easy to get to any of my apps without the need of multiple home screens, plus, the omnislash LWP looks amazing. I'm also running dumfuq's OC kernel at 806Mhz. This runs the wallpaper incredibly well, (plus it allows for 100% super nintendo emulation with sound! (doesn't help with PSX very much though -.-)) Check out these pics!
I really hope people, especially FF fans, check this out. From one fan to another, this came out REALLY well, and it's by far the best final fantasy wallpaper out there, and believe me, I checked...
Also, if you're feeling particularly lazy... feel free to post a youtube URL along with the start and stop times of a live wallpaper you'd like and I'd be happy to get it for you. They will be formatted to work with the LWP Creator app with the instructions provided in the first post. Try to pick short clips, for example, the omnislash wallpaper is about a minute long, the LWP Creator allows for 300 total frames, this allowed the video to be about 9.5 frames per second. The shorter the video, the more FPS, more FPS, the better it looks.
I look forward to your requests!
Yea i use my phone in portrait mode but no prob man i love the wallpaper.

CM7 with ADW Launcher EX set to 160 dpi

I was running CM7 -197 build on SD card with ADW Launcher EX. Due to the know Market issue, I would change the LCD density to 160 dpi to regain the Market. Each time that I would do this, my screen would squeeze all the icons into the middle 3/4 of the screen leaving a gap at the top and bottom where no icons could be located. If I returned the resolution to 161, my full screen would return and my icons would be spaced correctly. This morning I loaded the -200 build which has the 160 dpi built-in and I am back to all my icons crowded into the middle of the screen.
Has anyone else encountered this? If so, is there something that I can do to fix or correct? I have looked at all the ADW Launcher EX settings but see nothing that helps.
As a side note, I can run the ADW Launcher that comes with CM7 and everything is spaced correctly at 160 dpi. I do, however, prefer the icon and icon text settings that the EX version allows and would like to run it if I can get it to work correctly.
Thanks, in advance, for any help.

Uncheck Density hack
Done!
I can't explain how long it took me to find that...
Thanks for these suggestions. I had not tried either one until now. Unfortunately, neither suggestion worked for me. I tried a reboot after unchecking the density hack but my screen is still showing the icon rows and columns in the middle 3/4 of the screen.
If I cannot find a solution I guess I will just stick with the regular ADW Launcher. I just wish there was a way to get the icons to be a little bigger. Maybe I will just step up the power of my reading glasses.
I have the same issue. I also believe it is caused by the screen layout, not dpi. My setup is 7 rows x 8 columns (looks better to me when switching back and forth between portrait and landscape). No change when I change lcd density, but if I add more rows, the gaps disappear.
btw, I've had density hack unchecked the whole time.
I don't mind it so much because my screen is pretty full anyway, the gap is a nice visual break.
Might try unchecking compatability mode.

I've always had that unchecked as well. The only thing I've changed that successfully gets rid of the gaps is having at least 8 rows.
hikersc, how many rows and columns do you have?

I have 5 columns and 7 rows. As mentioned, I like to increase the size of the icons (and icon text).
I looked but could not find a setting for "compatibility mode". Could someone let me know and I will try that?
Thanks for everyone's help.
I would guess he means the compatability setting in Spare Parts.
I have the same issue. I have tired all of the above fixes... None of them have worked except changing the DPI, but that removes the market apps.
I am on Cm7 nightly 206 with the most up to date version of ADW ex. Does anyone else have any ideas? Even with more rows and columns there is still a gap of about 3/4 of an inch on both sides, or top and bottom depending on orientation.
Solved... sorta
The issue is definitely with ADW EX and the new fancy-pants dock bar.
The good news is that you can easily get your screen real estate back, the bad is that until ADW fixes this you wont be able to have your familiar 3-5 icon dock, you'll have to make the new "hidden" dock your primary
UI Settings
Main Dock
Main Dock Style
None (expand desktop)
The new bar is still persistent when you scroll across all screens... I'll get used to it... heck, I might even learn to like it.

Wow!...Thanks! This does, indeed work. I would prefer the old dock or at least an option to have the old versus the "fancy pants" new one but at least I can adjust the icon and icon text size and not have the big gaps at top and bottom (or worse...a crippled Market).
To tell you the truth, I have been looking at the regular ADW icons for so long I might just stick with that. None the less, thanks for coming to the rescue. I had tried a number of different things but never found the solution. Great Job!

Thank you so much! I have been pounding my head trying to get this to work.

Columns & Rows

So I've been fiddling with LauncherPro running in CM7, and I've been trying to get the grid set up properly. I'm really not sure what the optimal is as far as avoiding distorting things too much, but I read somewhere earlier that 10x10 was best. Considering the screen size I felt that seemed weird.
I managed to set things up perfectly on my phone, and using very basic math determined that on my phone (LG Phoenix) the proper sizing was 80x96 pixels per square, but unfortunately this translated to a grid of 7.5x10.7 on the Nook Color. When I tried it out at 7x10 (using LP's Calendar widgets) things looks smooshed.
More trial and error, lots of searching (with no results anywhere), and the best I came up with was 6 columns by 7 rows. Using the calendars as a gauge I can say that so far it looks best. A problem with this size though is that everything looks enlarged.
If anyone has anything to offer, I'm all for it, but this was the best I could do, and I am pretty new to this kind of thing (I've only had the nook for a few days). Since I found nothing in here referring specifically to this issue, I thought I'd at least post what I've worked out so far. Hope it's helpful.
Thanks for the feedback, hwong96. I should have also added that my numbers were for portrait. I tried 6x8 but it was still a bit smooshed together. I Keep using LP Calendar widget as a reference, the first one being longer and more rectangular, the second being square, or at least they should be if the dimensions are right. I will also add that I've got Auto-fit checked.
I use ADW set at 6 column and 8 rows. App drawer set at 5 column in portrait and 6 column in landscape.
For maximum flexibility, use 10x10 and resize any "smooshed" widgets to make them large enough to not be "smooshed."
One of the few features that I liked on my WinMobile phone was the ability to arrange icons and widgets differently in landscape and portrait modes. With a bit of work, it could look "perfect" in either orientation. I've forgotten what launcher it was, but it was a simple solution.
Even better is the B&N launcher interface with no grid. Just drag things around and size them as you like. It can auto-arrange and size things if you like. More like my messy desk, I guess.
Meanwhile, I've gone with 5x7 on CM in portrait mode. I quit worrying about making it look anything but usable in landscape as I change it around too frequently to spend that kind of time on it!
ADW EX allows you to resize icons. Not sure if LP has that feature, but it didn't last time I ran it. That might help if things look too sparse.

[Q] Lock Screen Wallpaper

Hi to all.
I cant find a solution to my problem and maybe someone can help me.
I have found some wallpapers for our Note in the right resolution (800x1280) to use these in my lockscreen.
The problem is that when i choose a wallpaper with lot of black color and choose it as lockscreen wallpaper i can see some horizontal lines on it.
If i choose the same image as phone wallpaper everything is ok.
Where is the problem?
Thank you all.
I have the exact same issue. Horizontal lines on lock screen, but looks fine everywhere else. I don't have the solution, but maybe I can help you out a bit.
I did some searching, it turns out that there's some sort of software bug that doesn't allow black images to be truly black but rather very dark grey. The thread is somewhere in this forum.
Also the native lock screen resolution is actually smaller than the screen resolution because of the notification bar. Per this forum: http://androidforums.com/htc-hero/37268-lockscreen-resolution-compression-issues-false-info.html
Also when you set an image to be the lock screen, it seems the picture is re-scalled and saved again (in another directory), which means compressed again.
Android phones usually don't display images in 24 or 32 bit color but rather 16 bit color, which means color banding. More on that information somewhere in this thread also.
My suggestion is:
1. Find out the native lock screen resolution. I'm also searching for the figure.
2. Edit your photo, change it to that resolution, and make sure the black areas of that image are truly digitally black (000000), and save it as an uncompressed image.
Maybe the horizontal lines are because the image is being re-scalled, re compressed, and the image being displayed at 16 bit color with a "true black but" is resulting in horizontal lines.
The solution is this. I'm using it and black is perfect.

Not bad idea at all...I have used widgetlocker in my previous phones but somehow i had some little problems like small lugs or battery draining.
I dont know if in the latest version is fixed.
But ill try cause i love black lockscreen in our huge super screen...
edit:Not working properly for me cause i have lower destiny...
Ah, what a shame! But WL does work, so if you ever go back to the stock density i highly recommend you using it.
Magick locker is free so you can test that, get a theme and customize wallpaper, set any black image and its fine. so its samsung lockscreen software bug
