Would greatly appreciate some help with Tasker. - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In order to improve battery life and such like I want to accomplish the follwoing with Tasker or another app if deemed better.
1. Turn off Wifi and Mobile Data at night, lets say between 11:30pm and 6:30am.
2. Turn Wifi on when in range of my home access point, and off when out of range (I understand it requires regualar scanning of wifi but I always forget to turn wifi off when I leave the house so it must improve MY battery life)
Obviously though the first rule should override the second. I can set both up but cannot get the priority or execution handling rules to work properly, also do I need exit tasks?
Would really appreciate the help. Tried the app help website and searched but cannot seem to find out the exact settings required.
Thanks in advance.

I know it's not what you asked for, but http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.schwimmer.android.wifistatus could solve your problem #2.

There's a huge Tasker thread in the apps and themes section where you might want to ask.

Connection questions (again...sorry)

Hi there,
Since last week I also have a TD2. It's a Vodafone-branded TD2 from NL. I've read a lot here about the dataconnections, but I think that I still don't know how I have to configure it for my purposes. What I would like:
1. When there is a known wifi (i.e. @home of @work), I'd like to have the TD2 connected to that wifi, instead of the payed (and slower) connection. How can I configure this?
2. I would like to have my email checked every 5 minutes. What I understood from reading here, it should be possible that the dataconnection closes after the check, and reconnects when the mail should be checked again (I hope I understood it right). This should improve batterylife. Is it true and how do I configure this?
3. I would like to have a notification (sound) when a new mail arrives, but not when I'm sleeping. Is there a simple tool that gives automatically a silent notification (so no sound and no vibration) from i.e. 22.00h until 7.00h? The phone/sms should NOT be silent then (since it could be an emergency-call). Of course all could be silent in a simple way when I want to, just like now.
I hope that any of you can help me configure this since I've read too much I think; I don't get it anymore....Thanx in advance!
Regarding point 2, why do you want to close the data channel every time? If it's not being used it shouldn't affect battery life. It might even make battery life worse if every five minutes you request another ip address and internet connectivity. Not to mention giving your network a hard time!
I understood that a non-closed data connection uses battery power. But if it isn't, it makes it a lot easier.

Auto 3g on off with the screen

I want to ask if anyone knows any application
or may develop
Who works as follows
to turn off 3g
turning off the display
or
by blocking mobile
then activate 3g
to turn the screen
or
to unlock the phone
I say this because, and found that leaving 3G enabled
my battery drains very fast
and annoying on and off every time I turn the mobile screen
Sorry for my bad English
I hope you understand
or
3g on = display on
3g off = off screen
Look = 3g off
unlock = 3g on
For me it would be very useful
This topic should be in Q&A or Themes and Apps. That said, try Tasker: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/

After a while configuring the application to achieve
working properly
anyway
I insist that it would be more practical
an app that focuses on the function
and consume fewer resources
would also be good
to do tethering, via USB or Wi-Fi
not disconnect
Really would be very appreciated
someone who is willing
encoding application that meets these functions
JuiceDefender
Check tasker out... it's a paid app... but it seems almost endless uses...

Maybe you can try 3G Auto On/Off
Cheers

It would be
easier to read

It makes them

+1 on JuiceDefender. It's at least doubled the battery life of my device by disabling data while leaving the PDA and phone active.

Auto-switch between wi-fi and network app?

Hi everyone @XDA,
I'm wondering if there's any application or workaround that will let my phone auto switch between network and wi-fi.
At the moment, I have to do these 7 steps before I leave home/office:
Step 1: Pick up phone
Step 2: Click trackbutton or power to turn it on
Step 3: Drag down screen lock
Step 4: Enter pattern lock key
Step 5: Tap 'Wi-fi' icon to switch off wifi
Step 6: Tap 'Network' icon to switch on network
Step 7: Open door and leave
I want to do it all in 1 step:
Step 1: Pick up phone, coffee and leave (with all the other stuffs running in the background)
Perhaps a workaround that can remember a particular wi-fi profile (ie. Home, etc) to connect, and if I lose that range, then it will automatically switch on the network data plan I have.
I'm guessing that this kind of app/workaround will be running in the background and it'll be great if it isn't too battery consuming.
Thank you everyone, I hope this thread may be useful to some of you too.

You need tasker you can set it up to turn WiFi and or mobile network on or off by gps location

Thanks for the response eljefe27.
The solution you provided would require GPS to be on at all times, am I right? I think that would be battery consuming right? Perhaps something more like, the phone would recognize saved wi-fi settings/locations/name — then switches to mobile network once it is out of range.
By the way I'm quite interested to get to know tasker, would you please provide a link or thread that discusses tasker? I tried searching but couldn't find any.
Thanks again!

You want this: auto wifi toggle
You can also use the long-press wifi toggle, if you want a one press manual method.

yeah gps has to be on but you can also also set up profiles to do what you need depending on what time it is
I prefer droid wall. Not only does it help pass off from wifi to network data seamlessly, but you can also select which apps you want to access the network and which ones you done. Thus you can allow apps like xda, opera mini, browser, and google voice search to run over 3g when you aren't in wifi range but prevent data heavy apps like pandora from screwing you if you accidentally leave it open or something. Then you can set droid wall to automatically allow all apps to access the net when connected over wifi. Not sure if this is quite what you're looking for, but it suites my needs very well.

Turning gsm radio off PERMANENTLY?

Hello all!
I was wondering of there is any way to switch.off.the gsm radio of the tab completely and permanently.
I found a solution using service code in the dialer but after resrtarting the device the annoying icon comes back onto the status.bar.
Thanks in advance!

Are you trying to convert it to a WiFi only model?

Seen that there are no updates here so I thought I'd stop by and ask how you made out?
If you still haven't done anything about it, have a look at this post
Just got a possible solution from frgking12!
I'll post it here if someone would like to try it:
I used Llama to create an Event called "Start Up" which will automatically turn Airplane Mode ON, wait 1 minute, then turn Wifi ON. This essentially makes it a Wifi only device and conserves battery life. Here are my Llama settings:
Conditions -
Phone Reboot > After Start up
Actions -
Toggle Airplane Mode > Airplane Mode On
Queue another event >
Conditions
Event name > WiFi on
Queue Delay > 1 minute
Actions
Toggle Wifi > WiFi On
Thanks to frgking12 again!
this method of turning airplane mode on and then enabling wifi also makes it so that bluetooth is disabled (and therefor won't work for my needs as I often use my apple wireless (bluetooth) keyboard with it.
unfortunately, it looks as if the post referenced by theREDlegion is a temporary fix that must be done each time you restart.
if anyone has an alternative, I too would appreciate the ability to turn off the gsm radio (and save battery life) as I too have a tmobile sgt and I also choose not to subscrube to 3g service but would rather use wifi all the time.
thanks in advance

My reference was only for the OP's original request which is an easy way to disable the GSM radio, and EASILY revert back to it working, nothing permanent. There are also widgets to do this but some of them are buggy. The fix outlined works well, the average tab user does not shut off their tabs regularly only the screen. The OP will not find that this is something they would be doing constantly. There are also scripts that can be run at boot, or apps such as Tasker which can automate these tasks.
A permanent fix would be to flash a ROM without a modem, but I'm not sure how you would get rid of the existing one. I'm sure some searching would get you places.

ooh, that's an interesting idea. shouldn't it just be a matter of restocking the tab, then flashing overcome (or any other rom of your choice that doesn't integrate the modem software), and simply choosing to not install a radio at that point?
I might experiment with that at some point (has anybody else tried it?)

Airplane mode on when in specific location

Hello,
Would someone be kind enough to post instructions on this please (like I'm a 6 year old - I'm 50 . I have a non-rooted S9 on Oreo.
Thanks for any help.

Actually, it would also be ok to have airplane mode automatically switch on whenever I connect to my home network. Whichever is easier really.

Thanks. Unfortunately that doesnt give me step by step instructions on how to enable wifi mode once I connect to my home network (without then disabling home network). I wasnt joking when I said it needed to be for a 5 year old
When it comes to determining ones location, often a good idea to explore would be to use two different sized auto location geo fences and cross-reference them.
So actually I need Tasker to change from 2G to 4G when leaving a certain location. Is that possible and would someone be kind enough to give me step by step instructions
Alternatively, if its easier could Tasker make 4G go to 2G when my home wifi is activated. Both scenarios achieve the same thing.
Thanks for any help.
The best choice to disable/enable airplane mode without root into Samsung Galaxy is through Routine (Good Lock 2018 plugin) or Bixby Routines
