[Q] DTS Video player - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
Is there a video player that supports the Galaxy S video hardware acceleration and that can decode DTS?
Probably looking for the holy grail here

[Q] Playing Mp4 video files on Samsung Galaxy S

Hi,
I have downloaded a movie in MP4 format and while playing it on my Samsung Galaxy S, i can see the picture but there is no sound coming...
Picture quality for the file is very good no problem in it..only thing is sound is missing.
Is it some problem? Or some settings needs to be changed?
Seniors..plz advise.
Regards,
Anoop.
Remember that media volume is independent of ringer volume, so make sure you turn the media volume up.
I have run into a bug a few times where the sound on an mp4 won't play, but then I just exit the video player and try again and it works.
Otherwise, it may be the sound codec of the mp4 isn't compatible, although that is unlikely as the Galaxy S seems to support every major codec under the sun. Does the sound work on your computer?
I'm also unsure of if the Galaxy S is able to playback 5.1 encoded sound, so perhaps the sound is beyond the Galaxy S's playback capabilities. That would probably only be the case with a huge bitrate however.
Finally, you can always just encode the video into another format using a tool such as the excellent free Handbrake program (for Windows and OSX). Settings that work flawlessly for me are H264 .MP4 at 800 x 480 (the screen resolution of the Galaxy S, can crop videos if needed) with bitrates up to 2000kbps and AAC audio at 128kpbs, 48000hz stereo.
How the f.. a 1ghz Humingbird can beat a 1.6Ghz Intel atom??
I had the same problem with some 720p Mp4 video,
I also tried Rockplayer, but the playback freezes badly,
with the default Galaxy video player HD video is smooth, while on my intel atom netbook, HD is unwatchable..

Because the Hummingbird supports GPU hardware accelleration for H.264? ;D
Just grabbed myself a Galaxy S and im in the prosess of flashing official Froyo btw.
Best phone evah! (With lagfix)
Nice update now in Froyo,
I see my MP4 HD movies now have audio,
Well at least they did smth right..
The fact is Samsung can play most of MP4 files. Several special MP4 videos will not be played as MP4 is a container video format which may encode with a variety of codecs like H.264, MPEG-4, Xivd, DivX, MPEG-4 ASP etc. or with subtitles or multi-channels audio tracks. As MPEG-4 AVC H.264 codec, support is limited to the required specifications. If your MP4 files are using audio and video codec that Samsung Galaxy cannot support or your MP4 files cannot meet the supported specifications of audio and video codec, your Samsung Galaxy phones or tablets will fail to play MP4 files. Even you download different Android video player, they still fails to play.
In order to successfully play MP4 on Samsung Galaxy, a better solution is to convert MP4 to Samsung Galaxy supported MPEG-4 Video with require specifications. Google search TechiSky How to Play MP4 on Samsung Galaxy you will find the answer.
Try MX-Player

[Q] CyanogenMod Unsupported Video Format Playback Efficiency

I want to switch to Cyanogenmod but many video formats and containers will no longer work natively. These formats can be played using Rockplayer. My questions are:
Does playback quality suffer?
Does playback efficiency (battery life) suffer?
For instance, I can reliably playback 720p h.264 video format with mp3 in an mkv container on the stock rom. Would it mostly the same on cyanogenmod? Or would it need to use the cpu to decode thereby dropping frames?
Dice Player and BSPlayer use the phone's hardware to decode h.264 videos.
I haven't found such a thing for WMV videos.

[Q] Hardware Acceleration and video decoding

Hi all,
I have samsung galaxy s and i switched to ics rom from GB 2.3.6(very stable and awesome) and found there no built-in video player while gb has samsung video player which plays all format with hardware decoding and MX player hw decoder also works but in ICS there is no hardware decoder also MX player hardware decoding not works. sw decoder is very lagy and useless and live wallpapers is also lagy. While in Team ICSSGS RC4.2 says Full Hardware Acceleration so where is hw acceleration???
I'm using Dice player and it seems to handle most of the formats I have with HW acceleration. Give it a try.
I recently installed dice player, it only show HW icon like MX Player bt actualy does not do hw decoding. U can feel the result of, video is very lagy and sound is chopy. In GB there is no issue and i often watch HD movies, I don't know why anybody feeling this basic issue. Without HW acceleration ICS there is no fun thats y i was using GB with ICS moded them
I use BSPlayer lite + BSPlayer ARMv7 VFP CPU support
Now i tried this, player is very pathetic and if i m using its hw mode of bs engine then video works else system mode does not work. Y u r using BSPlayer ARMv7 VFP CPU support while only bsplayer lite playing mkv files?
I'm running CM9 + semaphore 1.2 kernel, Moboplayer and MX player is working only in software mode, but Dice player hardware mode is working!
I use MIUI.4-SpeeD rom and no problems with live walpapesr. Default player, integrated in galery, play mp4 without problem, mkv play withoot sound, avi not play. BSPlayer play all formatss what i need. Wen using software decoding, mkv drop some frames, wen using system HW decoder, screen is OK but no sound, when using BSPlayer HW decoder screen and sound is normal.
Thanks for all gud replys, Dice player is working good. But i came to point that ICS has not built-in support for HD videos or doesn't have HW decoder. Every player is using its own decoder and produce different result. I just wana know what is technical missing in ICS comparative to GB, because GB has everything built-in(hw decoder and codes) to play every type of file?
Was interesting and i flash phone back to GB rom XXJVU. Default video player not play avi, mkv play withou sound, mp4 play good. The same results I obtained with MIUI.4-SpeeD rom withou any external player and codecs.

MX player (HW decode) not support ??

tried to play mp4 video with MX player
HW+ / HW decode failed..... but SW decode succeeded
is nook hd+ not support HW decode ??
thanks
It does support HW and HW+ decoding, I've used it to play a number of h264 encoded videos.
Your issue may have to do with which h264 profile the video was encoded with. I know for a fact that it will fail to play 10-bit videos in HW/HW+ mode.

that's mean not support mp4 video ?
I'd also recommend installing the MX Player ARMv7 NEON codec from google play store. I'm pretty sure that that one applies to the graphics chipset in the Nook HD+. all the mp4 videos I've tried playing worked in H/W+ mode.

personally i dont care for mp4 but have tried huge 1080p mkv's and all play without a hitch (streamed from home network pc I might add)

1080p HEVC decoding

I'm thinking if this tablet could be a good choice, but I would like to know if the device support smooth playback of 1080p HEVC 8-bit and 10-bit video?
Any ideas?

Unfortunatly, there is no hardware decoding for HEVC on this device and the cpu can't handle the load for HEVC software decoding.
To choose the right device, look at the supported codecs by the gpu.
As an example, galaxy tab s5e seems more suitable with its snapdragon 670 whitch support both HEVC 8 and 10-bit (according wikipedia, qualcomm wesite does no mention bit depth).
When i use MX player with transvoding SW or HW (i forget), hevc works without freeze
