So... I'm going towards purchasing HD7 but i just talked to a T-Mobile representative and they said that they are giving it for $499 but unlocked. They do not provide unlock codes even for a fee and that I'd have to get it unlocked elsewhere...
Anyone know about this?
If you buy the device full price from a tmobile corp. Location, then you need to call customer service and request your unlock code. It is that simple. They will provide it, considering you didn't buy it on a contract and take a discount. Even if you take a discount, after 60 days, they will provide the unlock code to you... free of charge.

Thanks for that... but i saw HTC Mozart here today and it just blew me away! The screen is perfect and the device itself is superb quality...!
i.e. am now a proud owner of the mozart! Cancelled my order of the HD7!

Called AA&T today and requested sim unlock code for upcoming trip abroad. I was told no problem, phone rep filled out a request on her end and said it would be emailed to me by Oct. 15th. I bought the Tilt yesterday outright, no upgrade or contract extension. Hope this is useful.
Any cost?
How much did you pay? I am looking to buy one straight up with no contract and ATT won't tell me how much it is! Some crap about how "they dont price the phone until it is out."

It's $550 with no contract.
$550.00 plus tax. It shows up on their consumer page now. I love this phone !!! Dumped the stock rom and went HTC. Much better !!!
Hmm...
For $550, I might just pay alittle more for real HTC Kaiser... They are arouind $670. By the way, My Tile is on the way, how does it look? AT&T website did not really showing the photo of it...

There is no cost to get an unlock code from AT&T for any of their phones. The only thing you do need is to have the international plan on your phone. The plan is an add-on service costing about $5-$10 per month and it does NOT require a contract.
So, call AT&T, tell them you will be travelling internationally soon, and ask them to add the int'l dial plan to your service. THen tell them, you will be there for a while and will use a local company SIM for a period of time which will require yo to get an unlock code for your phone. THey will give you one, which will unlock your phone FOR GOOD. Then, you can go online to the account mgr and remove the option from your service. You willonly be charged a pro-rated amount and your phone will still be unlocked forever.
I did this with my 8525 before I bought the unlocked Kaiser a month ago. And it took all of 10 minutes on the phone with AT&T Sales/Service to get it done. This is only for SIM unlock (which lets you use any SIM). It does not CID unlock which lets you flash a different ROM on it.
Hey,
Here's my experience of how I got a free unlock code from o2.
If you order a HD7 from them on Pay&Go they wont give you the Unlock code, you can pay around £15 to buy one online, when I bought mine there wasn't a code avaliable for my IMEI.
Basically, you need to buy a Simplicity Monthly Sim. There's a deal they have £10, 1 month rolling contract. This is the one I went for, because I assumed I would have had to pay the first month.
Once you've done this, they will send you your new pay monthly number by E-Mail the same day. Use that number to fill out this form http://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Hand
You will get an unlock code straight from o2, in my case I got it the next day.
Then.. when your new Simplicity sim arrives you need to phone o2 customer service. Much to my surprise you can cancel the contract under the 14 day return policy. They will charge you nothing the contract will be cancelled and you just throw out the sim.
The only charge to you is about a pound or so from phoning o2 Customer Service.
thanks for the tip

In the USA, the only place that sells the HD7 is T-Mobile and it is SIM locked to T-Mobile.
You can though, but it full price without a contract from T-Mobile, and that'll net you around $500.
600.00 and if you buy it off contract I'm pretty sure t-mobile will give you the unlock code but I might be wrong and you might have to use a 3rd party site.

Thanks, even if it costs $600, it will be cheaper in almost $200. If I can, I'll buy it.
Thanks again.
Jota
You can actually buy it on Amazon for $500, no tax or shipping fees, if you are in the US.

Click the Phone Only option, and there you go.
If you are coming to Toronto I'll sell you mine! I love the phone but I have to live on Edge since T-Mobile and FIDO are different Bands. I cannot get 3G with Fido network with the T-Mobile phone. Willing to sell the phone and then wait for WP7 and HTC HD7 that I can get 3G service with. It's unlocked so should work with any carrier. Just make sure you can get highest speed data back in your home land. PM me if you are heading this way.
So what's the procedure for unlocking the unsubsidised phone? Is it unlocked right out the box or would I have to call T-mobile?
I bought one through tmobile. I called them and 24 hours later they sent me the unlock code. via email. They told me it may take 8 days to get it but I got it the next day

Do you have an account with them / a contract?
Greetings to you all, gurus of the mobile universe.
I just bought a T-Mobile G1 from a friend and it is locked. I bought a code from a guy on ebay and it doesn't work, so he refunded the money.
I still want to unlock it but I don't know anyone who is a Tmo customer (all Sprint in my neck 'o the woods). Is there anyone here willing to file an unlock request for me?
Thanks for help and no thanks for flames.
Cancel this request, as I got impatient and paid a local shop $20 to unlock it for me.
Can just call t-mobile say its an old phone and going out of the country and need unlock code. Dont even need an account with them they ask for a number and give you the code. free
Totally not true.
I tried that route when I bought my Touch Pro II and they flat-out refused to give me a code unless I had been a paying customer for 90 days. I went round and round with the guy on the phone for an hour, talking to two supervisors and they wouldn't budge.
If you aren't a 90+day customer, TMo WILL NOT give you a code.
Hello.
Is it possible the phone gets unlocked in a t-mob store if I pay full price for it?
Thanks.
Yes it you pay full price you can get it unlocked I have talked to a rep and is possible is your phone they have to unlock espclecially if you paid full price, tell them you're going out of the country.
Completely up to the store/rep you get. Most will not do it on the spot and will not sell it without a service plan (that you can later cancel). They try to stick to the stated policy of not unlocking phones until 40 days of service.
Individuals have gotten reps here and there to unlock it for them on the spot, but AFAIK those experiences are in the vast minority.
Most folks have just gone with a 3rd party unlocking service ($24-35) and then cancelled service.
What dawheat said
It's not standard procedure to allow for unlocks before 40 days of service even if you're going somewhere
Last year I got an S4 unlocked at the store (Had to pay full price + a $50 prepaid plan of some sort)
I'm not from the U.S so I needed it unlocked. Hopefully I can get a Note 4 in a few weeks as I'll be traveling to Atlanta.
Good luck to both of us! if you already did it, I'll apreciate if you tell me how it went
