Hey Guys, My HTC wildfire is net locked to 3, i have tried several times to install a custom rom via unrevoked 3 tool.
This is the process i went through:
downloaded rom(s) - have tried several
copied to SDcard
ran unrevoked 3
backed up
reset to factory settings + then wiped cache partition
install from SDcard > navigated to zipped rom
installation flashed up for a second then quit, does this everytime on any rom
reboot
checked software name everytime and is only coming up saying 2.1-update 1
any ideas on how i can get either unlocked 2.1 ROM or 2.2 ROM installed? is there anything i am doing wrong / missing
many thanks
w1ngs
You need to first debrand your WF. You do this by creating a Gold card.
I did mine by the Modaco method.
Google debrand wildfire and you'll see.
Good Luck
Ok nevermind, have found it, many thnks, now sitting with my debranded phone, flash time
Hmmh, still the same result when i came to flash the ROM. It opens then quits a second later. I now have a debranded phone.
Any ideas?
Well I can't offer you a solution but I can tell you that my Wildfire works on 3 without any need for the gold card method. Make sure you have added 3 network settings in wireless network settings. Sometimes custom ROMs don't pick this up.
Also, at the risk of sounding insulting, make sure you have paid your bill. I thought I had my bill set to direct debit but either the 3 customer service goons failed at setting this up or my bank wouldn't allow it. So for a couple of days I was thinking that my custom ROM wasn't working but actually it was 3 had cut me off.
just a small point here but a fairly substantial one, i am talking about flashing the wildfire to a different ROM, not having network issues, your comment was unhelpful as perhaps you did not read the original post. Thanks
Can anyone help?

Try reflashing as I had that problem once. And try a different memory card as I have killed 3 mem cards upto now!

Did you click install zip from sd card or apply update.zip

Hi! Just to share what happened to me recently.
My Legend is now sent to service. Don't know exactly what went wrong, but anyways.. I rooted it a couple of weeks ago. Been installing and trying out some ROMs ju find "the one" for me (I'm not new to this, been using rooted Magic and Hero earlier). Finally, I installed a ROM with busybox..so far so good. Then I rebooted my phone - FAIL! It didn't wake up again!
Finally I managed to reinstall a ROM by running "step1" from unlockr's "how to root a legend"-Guide.. But the phone complained about me removing the SD-card. Figured, maybe it was because of unlockr's (Pauls??) testimage, so i ran the official RUU 1.31 and it installed fine (it didn't before). But no, sd-card was still "removed". tried a secont sd-card, same problem. Bought a new 16GB Class 10 card (previous cards were 2GB/8GB class 4) - No go. So - the conclusion is - my sd-card reader is gone. Not to worry, warranty will take care of it - but has this happened to others? If it has, maybe busybox isn't such a great idea on the legend for now.
Hi, nothing wrong with your phone, just an glitch in software that controls usb.
Happen twice for me after flash/root
quite easy to fix with adb and fastboot and terminal software.
se other post and howtos for usb bricked
just make sure that you got same HTC_xxx number to match your device.

Oh, thanks.. then maybe I should try it before I send it in I actually read the posts before, but I didn't get how to hexedit the file :s I need the how-to for dummies maybe you can help me with that part?
Edit: I can try this later, need to re-root my phone first.. I have my goldcard at home, I'll do it later tonight (I get off work in 6 hours). I'd appreciate if you could help me with the hexedit thou. Now I get "INFOCID is HTC__Y13"
Edit2: since I no longer have root, is it even possible to root the pgone with the sd-controller disabled? :s
Edit3: This is gonna be a loooong post. sorted out the hexedit anyway, I'll se what I can manage :9 Thanks
Problem solved! Thank you for your help! Got back root, now it's just the flashing part left The problem was, I couldn't see my Sd card - at all. but that was easily fixed with the help of this forum! You're great!
I´m glad to help
Hi all, I've searched for help on this and not found anything, please don't crucify me if the solution is extremely simple. I wanted to post my problem in the relevant thread but it wouldn't let me do that so I made a new one.
My girlfriend recently won an Incredible S in a competition here in Shanghai. Great phone but it seems that the Chinese ROM is crippled in some ways - most importantly no Google syncronisation. She can set up her Gmail account in the usual way but it doesn't sync her contacts/calendar/email etc. like her Desire does. It's also got a bunch of Chinese crap that she doesn't need (Weibo, RenRen, etc.).
All I want to do is put a non-Chinese stock Sense ROM on it. I don't really care about custom ROMs as she really likes the Sense UI. It's currently running Gingerbread 2.3.3.
So I downloaded the 2.3.3 Virgin Mobile Australia ROM from this thread (since it seemed to be the most popular and apparently is free from any Virgin Mobile branding or bloatware). I researched and realised that I need to make a gold card. I did this using Goldcard Tool 0.7, and I double-checked with a hex editor that it was correct according to the .IMG I got from the site where you input your CID and get the IMG. Everything seems to check out.
So now I have the gold card in the phone, I connect it with USB debugging on, and put it into mass storage mode (I've tried in charge only mode too, didn't work). I then run the Virgin Mobile RUU file on my Windows 7 PC (RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_Virgin_Mobile_AU_2.12.981.2_R_Radio_20.2803.30.085AU_3805.04.03.12_M_release_185029_signed).
And every time I try, I get the same error: Error [131]: Customer ID error.
I researched this and it seems this is what happens if you try to flash another carrier's ROM to your phone without a gold card. The full error text is "The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again."
I also note that the Virgin Australia ROM has a lower version number (2.12.981.2) than the ROM that is currently on the phone (2.21.1400.8), could this be the reason why it won't update?
My main question is... what do I do from here to get the Virgin Mobile ROM running on the phone? Is it possible that they've made this phone so you can't flash any other ROM on it, even with a gold card?
Apologies for any noobishness. I have spent hours researching this, but to no avail. I previously rooted my girlfriend's HTC Desire and didn't have too many issues (and learned a lot about Android in the process), but this seems to be kicking my ass as I'm following instructions to the letter and it's still not working.
Any advice? I would really appreciate any help.

This usually indicates a bad goldcard. What size SD card did you make the goldcard with? Also, when you ran the GoldCard tool, did you use the MMC0 or MMC1 value? Either way that is the problem because the IncS actually uses MMC2, so you need to use SimpleGoldCard:

Thank you SO much for replying! I was using MMC1 (MMC0 didn't work). I will try SimpleGoldCard and report back.
I tried with a 2Gb and a 1Gb card (both Sandisk), neither worked.
Thanks again for your help! Hope it works this time.
Well... progress! I think the gold card is working now, because I'm now getting a different error - Error 140, wrong bootloader. Guess it's back to Googling solutions...

That could indeed be due to the fact you are on a 2.21 ROM and you are trying to flash a 2.12 RUU. The HBOOT versions are probably different.

Well, I ended up using revolutionary.io to S-OFF the phone and install ClockworkMod Recovery, then tried the RUU again for good measure... and guess what?
IT'S WORKING
It's currently 30% through the "Updating system" phase, which is further than it's got before. There's also a progress bar under the HTC logo on the phone's screen, which hasn't appeared before.
I'll check back once it's worked or bricked the phone. Thanks again for your help!
VICTORY!
Thanks again for your help, mate. Now got the Virgin Mobile ROM up and running, and all the Google stuff is there. She's really happy with it!
Feel free to close this thread now guys, nothing more to see here.
Thanks again tpbklake!
Hey everyone, after a year of not caring about any mods or hacks for my galaxy s I thought that I should get one problem out of this world.
I am talking about the constantly flashing led buttons...so I stumbled upon BLN control which needed a special kernel, so I downloaded the promoted Kernel Flasher and the .tar file of the manual site of BLN (the site i was linked to via my mobilephone when opening BLN).
That tar file was called something with odin in it (not the "update" version). I used odin back in the days I remember...anyways, while in kernel flasher i inserted that tar file...and the kernel was installed, auto-reboot and since then it restarts on loops. Loads the desktop, checks for sd cards...you can scroll around a bit...then after 8 seconds it gets black and restarts.
I am really desperate here, because my exams are coming up and due to my carelessness I have this nasty problem to solve on top of that. Arghh...
There are some appz with important information in it (like notes), a clear swipe would be the absolute last resort here.
Can I recover my old kernel (didn't backup my old one), or replace/update with a new, working one? Through the recovery menue?
If you'd be so kind to step by step explain how it should be done? and I will cease any modding, hacking after this one. -_-
It is a rooted 2.3.3 Gingerbread kernel, as far as i can remember.
Can you go to download mode ? if so flash the .tar file as pda in odin. MAKE SURE IT'S THE RIGHT KERNEL FOR YOUR DEVICE.

Thanks for the tip.
This morning I played around with this bootlooping phenomenon a bit and found out, that when I immediately close any wlan or phone signal my phone works normal...just that I cannot phone anyone, or be phoned, or surf the net.
I manually did a backup of all my important files now, phew.
When using backup programs my phone resets immediately too.
Ok, long story short, I got my firmware, kernel info now, so you might be able to tell me which kernel, firmware would be appropriate for me (didn't update for a year now, so I am not on top of the news).
Kernel/file that screwed up my phone:
i9000_jvh_backlightNotification_v3.0_odin.tar
My actual Kernel Version:
2.6.35.7-i9000XWJVH-CL184813 [email protected] #51
Buildnumber:
Gingerbread.XWJVB
I am able to enter the download mode, but which . tar-file should I use in your opinion? What's a good one today?
Ah, I see the light, maybe I once again will be able to phone again.

do you want to use a Samsung stock kernel or do you wanna give a try to Cyanogenmod stable or something like that?
Last time I saw samfirmware sites I saw that 2.3.6 was avaible for Europe...
Well... that's your choice!!!
Will I be able to keep the functionality of BLN, that keeps those led-buttons at the bottom turned off?
With a Samsung Stock-Kernel you will loose the BLN-Feature. You can try flashing another Kernel which has implemented this feature too. I used the SemaphoreKernel which has this feature. (works on all GB-Roms)
If you try Cyanogenmod you will loose BLN too. But Cm has a feature called "LED-Notification" which does the same as BLN does.
So, I downloaded update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyS-signed.zip should I go on with this manual? http: //jjpda.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-install-cyanogenmod-71-on-i9000.html ?
Or do I have to go back from a root to apply this new one?
Which program do I use on PC, and which one on my phone again? :O
Search in Cyanogenmod wiki for i9000,you will find all the steps to follow..
You need 1st TO root the phone, than install ROM manager, install CWM, place CM7 zip on internal SD, remove SIM And ext. SD,reboot into recovery, wipe data, cache and dalvik, flash CM7 zip and reboot.
Don't forget:
-fully charge your phone before starting
-read CM7 wiki page
Hope this might help you.

Well, I did everything the wiki told me to do and here i am with a new rom.
But now my SIM-CARD isn't recognized anymore. I accidently forgot what bedo told me in his last post, and left that card inside while flashing. My bad, i guess.
But what can I do now? I re-flashed, wiped already, with no success, my sim card is still absent in cyanmod. :\

Can you post a screenshot about info of your phone with CM7?
(long press power button and select Screenshot when you are in the info menu )
Here some info for your amusement. Have fun!
Supposed we get to a solution, so I can use my phone for communication purposes again, I wanted to format the internal sd memory of my phone.
Can I just format it, then just leave the flash files on it, to reflash again?
How does that work?
Also, I flashed that googleappz package rom too after the cynomod flash, as I was supposed to by wiki manual.
But I cannot find google maps, android market etc.
I wonder if there is any connection to my initial sim card problem.
But first things first I guess...wanna do some calls :\
Thanks so far for all the good souls trying to help me!
try to flash cm7 radio .
What is the difference exactly? Includes a radio option?
Does it also have the option to turn off the led sensor buttons?
Has it an option to do phone calls too?
PS: I cannot seem to find any cyanmod radio file...hmm

O_O OMG!
Seems no SIM card detected....
Very very strange...
Like the fact that you flash GApps and you can't see market...
Did you wipe cache and Dalvik cache?
+ try this:
"Settings -> Location&Security -> Set up SIM card lock -> Lock SIM card (uncheck)"
I found that in some cases might help.

Take a look here and try with JVK if it works...
I wiped everything possible in recovery mode, flashed that ominous JVC rom, then googleappz. At least now I can shop in the android market. But the sim card still is in the land beyond imagination.
Has my sim card been...bricked?
Which other flash files do you suggest me to try out now? Or should I get me another sim card from the store?
Everything's solved! And the solution was too easy to believe...
Checked the sim card slot more deeply and found out that the sim card wasn't placed in correctly. I seem to have taken it out through the flashing process and in all the "commotion" quickly put it in wrong. Sorry for the big fuzz, everyone.
At least now I got some training with flashing.
So, should I reflash the first cyanmod again?
no you don't need to reflash the rom, cause you already flashed twice plus wiped all possible options...!
I just didn't want to ask you to check if the SIM card was insert properly,
but that would solve your issue faster...!
Enjoy CM7!
Well, I had some time to try out the performance and stability of this mod.
Games definitely are running with a some lag (also reaction time of the sensor to control your game, makes them unplayable).
I tried to uncheck the Cyanmod setting option "Dithering" and "JIT"..also put the cpu settings to "performance".
To be sure I formatted internal SD and external SD.
My phone had some problems finding my external SD, but some guy on the net told to go to Cyanmod settings, applications, use internal memory...and now I use my external SD for everything I guess?
Maybe this is because everything is in slowmo?
Maybe the firstly flashed mod was more...stable?
So, my question would be how to use my internal sd card, maybe it gets faster then?

What about changing to kernel infinity?
Ive searched and havent been able to find a solution to this, although Ive seen it asked before.
Galaxy Tab P100 bought from a pawn shop. It still has the prior owners (unknown) gmail info minus p/w. I cannot remove the account, or access market because of this. Everytime I tried to data reset (both via Privacy settings and also CWM), add a new rom, or add apps - after I reboot it goes back to the prior owner settings and apks.
I have Odin'd/Heimdall with different roms but they dont stick. Different kernels install though. Ive added two different CWMs. Superuser breaks after every reset - I gain, then lose, root. Ive rooted/added root explorer and deleted accounts.db and user.db - they go back after. Ive spoken with Sprint and we tried everything they had, as well as a ##786# and MSL number (resetting phone activation I think?). Their response was take it in to send back. I want to fix it myself.
It seems to me that this prior info is overriding and reinstalling every reboot, preventing any new flashing/etc from taking place.
Here is my question. I took it apart this morning and disconnected the battery (thinking maybe it will wipe any memory). But does it have a CMOS-type battery? I noticed there is a small round battery-looking connection soldered into the mainboard (see here - step 7/8 http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-Teardown/4103/1)
Does anyone know what this is? I dont really have anything to lose, but Im not great with a soldering iron, but will try. Im thinking this might be for the memory, and disconnecting/reconnecting this would erase any permanent user information, freeing it up for me to add mine.
Or if anyone has any new ideas I would appreciate it.
Thanks for the time. Ed

It is not a battery backed memory, it is a NAND chip.
Sounds like the chip gone bad.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA
Just an update.
I did not do anything with the round battery thing, as priyana stated the memory is stored on a nand chip. I put the tab back together.
I rooted again, and found the ea24 firmware and loaded it via odin. It took, but the prior user info was still there, and everything (I mean a crapload of apps) began force closing. I did confirm that ea24 was on it. I then flashed back to ef17.
I contacted Sprint repair store again, and they told me that they probably cant fix it, and its something they have to send back. They said that I have done all that they would do in-store.
I dont understand what could be wrong, as I found the prior owner and spoke with her. She had no issues with it. It worked fine prior to her getting rid of it. And it works fine, I just cant get rid of any prior info. I googled it and it seems like there are people out there who have the same problem, but no one has an answer, including sprint or samsung.
So much for my venting. Ill keep trying to find an answer.

First of all, I'd like to apologize for posting something that won't really help, but I recognize this from somewhere else. On some devices, there's some kind of file (that you can delete via the adb prompt when you're root) that on every bootup checks to see if the installed ROM matches stock, and if not, restores to stock. This sounds exactly what you're experiencing when you mention that no ROMs "stick".
I think you should try to look into if there's some files that need to be erased in order for a ROM to be cleanly installed that you haven't gotten rid of. It might also be some kind of feature that the previous user enabled, so maybe it's somewhere around in the settings that you can disable it, who knows.
It definitely does not sound like a memory issue because I don't see how a memory issue could make the stock ROM suddenly appear again after you've installed a custom ROM through CWM (assuming CWM gives no errors or anything and the custom ROM has actually been wiped).
Maybe you can do a more thorough wipe of the device memory manually with some guidance from someone who knows more about how these tablets work :fingers-crossed:
I agree with you about some type of file and bootup. Thats why I went with maybe it being a cmos/nand issue. I couldnt understand that I wiped everything, and information was still coming back. It makes me think that somewhere, something is being stored separate from the main drive.
Ive used the factory restore, CWM (2 different versions - 3 and 5 I believe), and wiped data (factory reset), cache and Davlik three times each before I flashed the CM ROMs. And I have not had any errors or problems installing any of the CWMs.
I spoke with the previous user, and she did nothing above turning it on/off, and using it. I am not on the Sprint network with it, and the wi-fi doesnt turn on until I set it up, so I cant see it being something that contacts Sprint and OTAs from them.
Can anyone tell me if, using ADB, there is a more thorough wipe I can perform ? More than the normal one done through CWM or Android factory restore?
Something similar to the reformatting of a hard drive?
Thanks
Ed
I have the same problem. Did you find any solution?
I believe the previous owner info is stored on sprint servers. When you reboot, it downloads all the crap.
The long time required to reboot explains the slow transfer of data - wireless.
These wireless service providers are pretty sneaky.
Thanks
Hi,
Have you tried formatting both internal and external Sd via Windows? (connecting via USB)
You can also try CM10, it has a different memory map which will write your device completely.

No offesne, but i love to be clear with what i do. So, another question. Will it affect your phone in any matter (except charging) if u flash different ROMS sonstantly day after day???
No. I've flashed 9 roms in 1 day. Has no effect what so ever.
What u Ned to do is read threads clearly. If people add things seperate it means there not built in.

Have you installed anything new? used anything new? Your ext3 will only vanish if your sd is corrupt, you used link2sd and created the link while already using data2sd.

That was quick reply. I have 2 sd cards 4gb class 4 and 16gb class 10. I have tried with both the sd cards. :fingers-crossed:I will try again with new installation and document every step as I do. Thank you.
Problem installing BBx ROMs
Hello, and firstly, great work and very useful tutorials BB.
I have a Salsa, earlier in the year I updated HBOOT, Unlocked bootloader via the HTC website, so am now S-ON, Rooted, CWM and was running the un-official CM7 with the memory fix.
I tried to put BBx V13 on, 3 wipes, but it sits on the white screen with green HTC, I gave up after 30 mins and pulled the battery as holding the power button didnt work.
So i then put ParanoidAndroid2.99 on, no problems booted in 2 mins.
I then wiped and tried to install BBx Holo3a, same problem with sitting on the HTC white screen, 30 minutes and had to pull the battery.
Could there be a difference with the hardware or S-ON, I work in a lab and follow procedures word for word, could there be something I have missed?
Thanks,
Mike
**Additional, I have just found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320012&highlight=paranoid+android
Could the problem be that I have S-ON but there is no boot.img in the BBx ROM but there is in CM7 ?
X -series GPS
Hi all,
I have been using the v12 of BBE X-Series ROM for a while now and love it, but for some time the GPS has not worked. Can someone please help? The GPS worked initially (But with v13 it did not - so thats why I changed back to v12). Now it is not working at all, but it is turning on according to the settings in the phone, however the Icon does not appear. I have perflock installed also, but that was same at the start when it was working.
All GPS apps think it is on but no GPS app gets a signal and never does the icon pop up on the top bar.
I recently updated Busybox and had not re-installed the new version so I thought maybe this could have been the problem but when I re-installed (lastest) it still does not work. I update apps quite a lot and possibly something else changed that was needed?
Everything else works fine in this v12 except WiFi hotspot (which crashes in the settings) but I have found Barnacle as a work around for this although I can never update the password. Any suggestions on this would be appreciated too .
Also if all things work in another ROM I am happy to change to it but would rather a fix.
Long time lurker.
