I currently have Vlingo, Simeji and stock android keyboard inputs.
I frequently switch between Vlingo and Simeji for Japanese input, but now whenever I long press the "123" button to bring up the change input method option, selecting "input method" to switch between input methods does nothing. I'm able to go to "Vlingo Keyboard Settings", but not change the input method.
Disabled Vlingo keyboard, same problem on stock keyboard and now I'm stuck with it.
Do you mean, when you long press "123" and choose "Input method",nothing shows up?
I recently had this problem, so I used another way to switch between IMEs. Instead of using keyboard button to switch IME, long press on a text box and choose "Input method".

Yeah exactly what you said.
The alternative method works too.. Just wondering what's causing the problem.
I noticed this problem since I started using Titanium backup to restore all apps... I used to do clean install of all applications but I found that very cumbersome.

Hello, it's my first post, I would like just to say hello.
I've searched forum but I haven't found solution to my problem. As said in the title, I cant change text input method. Whatever I choose, the option comes back to full qwerty mode. Am I doing something wrong? Or should I take some additional steps to get it working?
Regards, fck.
Input methods...
How are you trying to change the input methods? I may be missing the obvious, or you may be, so we'll start at the top.
Open up any app where you can access the SIP's (soft input panels)... try Word or Notes. Tap the keyboard icon at the bottom centre of the screen, now tap the tiny arrow to the right of the icon and choose an option here.
Let me know what this does
Ah! Thank you very much! It does work. I was changing it in settings/input/then chosen keyboard. However, it still doesn't work for me to change input method from settings tab. Why? The same problem occurred on stock t-mobile rom and so as on custom one..
Is there a way to use the better keyboard on the nexus? i installed it but still uses the default one
Yes, open the keyboard and hold the 123 keys till input method wording show. Then you can choose better keyboard as the default.
I installed Smart Keyboard Pro. To use I had to enable it in Settings > Language & Keyboard.
But I can only use it in html forms by long pressing a form field, selecting "input method" and than choosing it. The whole process makes smart keyboard pretty much useless...
Please, let me know If you can successfully enable better keyboard and overcome this problem somehow...

Thiago Souza

Make sure you go to your keyboard option in the settings menu, make sure Smart Keyboard Pro is checked, then go to the keyboard hold down 123 and select it

thanks, now just need to fix oversized text problem.. i'lll be back if i can't find solution lol
is there anyway to remove the soft (on screen) keyboard and use the stock one with Gingerbread/Froyo?
this moto/integrated swype thing kinda sucks
maybe it's because i've become so used to the suggestions/auto complete from my D1 but i really just want the basic android version
I can't verify this right now on my Droid 4 (cuz I bricked it ), but you should be able to press-and-hold the Swype menu button (the long S with the hand icon, the softbutton on the bottom left corner) and get to a menu which features a "Select Input Method" item. Use that menu and select "Android keyboard" and Bob should be your uncle.
I believe you can change the input method (keyboard) by long-pressing in any text entry box.
Thanks guys, I assumed this was a 'moto tweak' and didn't realize it was that easy to switch back.
So if anyone has played around in stock keyboard settings. There's something called Hot Keys
Where you can assign text shortcuts by long pressing the number keys. Well I set up my text shortcuts, but unfortunately when I try to use them by long pressing the number key I set. My keyboard force closes. Can someone try to see if they have this issue too
Tmobile Note 4 not rooted
Just tried it, and it worked fine for me with assigning a simple line to #1. No force closes occurred.
I am rooted, with the fist Ota installed.
