Hi Peeps,
For some strange reason my SGS has decided to stop sending sms. After hitting send the messages just get stuck on "sending"
I have checked the message centre number and the mms setting just in case. I have tried the sim in an old nokia and it texts just fine.
It was having intermittent issues with sms around a week ago, where it wouldnt send a message, so i would send the same one again and then both would send simultaneously. However now its not sending at all.
I am running Froyo.xwjp6 with kernel 2.6.32.9.
I have also tried instaling Handcent SMS but i just get the error "message not sent"
Thoughts on a postcard?
Same here, although trying handcent has allowed me to send, but strangely, will intermittently fail, im sure its a froyo bug.

I managed to fix it. Couldn't be bothered with trying to reflash the modem or even the os, so tried the Privacy-return to factory settings option just out of curiosity. Can't figure out what it did exactly but when it rebooted i had not lost any settings or applications, and all my home screen app shortcuts were still there. The only discernable difference was the lack of gadgets on the home screen, which I had to reinstall.
The important thing however is that messaging worked again. God knows why.
One susipicion I have is that this is due to my usage of Titanium Backup. I installed it when i was running Eclair, and each time i upgrade the OS i use it to restore my old system data and apps. Perhaps some change between Eclair and Froyo's messaging settings is being overwritten by and older version by Titanium. I suspect this as following the above factory restore I tried a Titanium restore and instantly it broke my messaging again. So I did the factory again and got them back. There wasn't really any need to use Titanium as I said before I didn't seem to lose any setting or apps, but did it anyway out due to that old cat's friend curiosity
Give it a go if u dare and see what happens
Let me know how u get on...
Ok so im still having the same problem.is there really noone out there with an idea?

Hey guys, I'm having a SMS timestamp issue since rooting and installing SenseUI rom and CM rom.
Note, this did -not- happen on the stock n1 rom. I'm currently in China using China Mobile so I haven't been able to test this back in the states (TMobile) yet.
Basically, when I send a message to anyone (android, iphones, etc), their received timestamp of my message is 7-8 minutes in the past. Obviously this is quite the annoyance for threaded messages on smartphones. I can replicate this by sms'ing my own phone and the timestamp of the received message is 8 minutes before I sent it.
I've tried everything I can think of. I've even nandroid restored my original backup and the issue is still happening. I've turned on/off the "get time from network" settings, updated radio and redowngraded, tried 3-4 different roms, but nothing is working.
Anyone seen this before or have any ideas? Frustrating the hell out of me!
anyone have any ideas?
So I have had my Captivate for a little over a month now and I have the basic mods done to it, rooted and sideloading enabled and have used everything on the phone with no problems up until now. A few days ago I installed anycut and was messing with the settings and set it to gsm only and tried some other things with no success. It seems that maybe a day after that all my texts were failing to send, however I can still receive text messages. My data still works, phone switches from edge to 3g with no problem, everything works, I just cant send texts now. I have done EVERYTHING that i can think of to try to solve the problem by resetting the phone, tried reverting to a backup taken by titanium backup, reverted to a complete rom backup, even completely loaded the phone back to stock non rooted/sideloaded and none of those things fixed the problem. is there some setting somewhere that I can check/verify that might affect me being able to send text?
LOL i did the same mistake and did the same thing you did to try to fix it.
I figured out that i deleted the sms center number so i could receive texts but not send(not good when your girlfriend is having a breakdown btw). So nerdy me went into the secret phone settings(service menu's) to put back in the sms center and kept getting an error.
Baffled I called att and had a facepalm moment when they told me to go to the stock messaging app and go to settings and input the sms center number from there.
Short Version: Open Stock Messaging app -> Settings -> message center option input +13123149810
Im gonna go look for the other number if that one doesn't work
Edit: Try this one if the other doesn't work +19703769301
Wow thanks! that fixed it. Man what a dumb move on my part.
*82
My messages where also failing sporadically. I checked for the call center number and I did have it. It turns out my problem was because I was using *82 in the contact phone number.
I hid my number from being displayed to others by going to home - settings - call settings - all calls - show my number - hide. And I added *82 in front of just family member phone numbers. But sms / texting was incompatible with *82. So I changed the family mobile phone numbers to ###-###-#### and added a second phone number with *821-###-###-####.
I use my cell phone for business and personal use so that is why I have it configured this way.
Hi,
this never happened to me before on my Legend.
I'm using handcent sms, but don't know if it has something to do with that, with the OS (used handcent on my Legend too) or my carrier provider.
When I write loads of sms with a friend, it happened already 3 times that suddenly I got a reply from someone completely unknown (unknown number), informing me about that he/she (wrongly) received this sms from me that should have been sent to my friend. My friend then didn't get that sms, although it's correctly listed in the appropriate sms "thread" for my friend's contact and NOT in the new thread created for this unknown number.
Has anyone experienced this before?
I think it's even more strange since this number isn't in my contacts and it's completely unrelated (not just a few numbers swapped, but a completely different carrier).
Has anyone experienced something like that?
This happened to me 2 times on stock Froyo and yesterday on Gingerbread..
Thanks for any help
Max
That's due to a bug with Android itself.
This was fixed with version 2.3.3, so if you get your self a GB(2.3.3) rom, all will be good.
That's strange, I'm already on gingerbread.. still it happened yesterday or the day before.
Handcent is your culprit!
Got myself into a LOT of trouble with the right msg going to the wrong person... LOL
get yourself chomp which is better in this aspect
or use the default app..
Ive been running serendipity 6.4 for a few days now and love it.
Everything works great except when someone tries to call me I get a weird audio tone and then the person calling me gets forced to voicemail after one ring.
And on my end I never even see the call coming through, am thinking of flashing cognition if I cant get this resolved....
Any ideas?

Bad flash or you restored apps and system data. Never heard of that on 6.4.

Yeah, I've been having a similar problem. When somebody calls me, my phone rings once or twice, then the signal inexplicably disappears. The caller gets some att message that the network is down, but I never had this problem before.
yeah it's a common occurrence if you restored system data
so when i did my titanium backup i should of just restored user apps but nothing else??
So is there any way to fix other than reflashing?

Missing apps+data only.
Reflash. Sorry.

hmmm... I followed a vid on flashin cognition to a tee.
It was a 3 part video...cant find the link right now,
but several ppl said to follow it exactlly for flashing cog or serendipity, and in the vid im sure the guy said to restore all user apps and data which is what i did...
so next time just do missing apps and data?
I think i might just reflash and not restore anything backed up, if i dont restore backup files whats the worse that could happen? just have to setup apn, widgets, contacts and apps n crap again? or is it a step i must do?
just want to be able to receive calls again and not screw it up the second time, other than the one ring then dropped calls everything works great
Can I restore my contacts? I'd hate to have to find all those phone numbers and type them in again.

Sync to google, then re-sync when you flash.
i reflashed serendipity and this time only used titanium backup for missing apps and data and my calls are now working fine.....
My contacts are gone tho, and i dont have them setup in google to sync with, is there a contacts file in titanium that i could restore???
thanks

Ive never once had a problem with restoring contacts, just go into titanium, find contacts in the list and hit restore
should be called [CONTACTS/CALL STORAGE], just restore that part and all should be fine
Thanks, I synced my contacts from Google, and everything was fine. Now, for some reason, contacts crashes whenever I try to open it, and I get "android.process.acore stopped unexpectedly".
After I rooted, im not receiving any text messages. But i know i can send messages. I could also make and receive phone calls. Ive tried using a sense rom to update prl and profile which updated but still not receiving text messages. Anyone have any ideas why?

Try sending the text 'Allow all' without the parentheses to 9999

Tried. Didnt seem to have worked. any more suggestions?
If the "allow all" text didn't work, and using a sense rom to update prl/profile doesn't work - I would suggest downloading the RUU and reverting completely back to stock. See if it works then, if it does root with z4 or w/e you like and go back to the rom/nandroid you had before.
if it doesn't work call sprint or bring it in to one of their stores
Also, just wondering; you do have plenty of free space on your phone right? People seem to get really weird problems when their phone is running low on internal storage.
And do you use google voice for voicemail?
And what, if anything, did you do at or around the time it started acting up? (ie installed new apps, flashed new kernel, etc.)

Question1: Yeah i have plenty of space no apps installed.
Question2:Yeah i use google voice. but is not set up right now since i just rooted.
Question3: First noticed no messages being received when i rooted i believe.
Guess illl try to the RUU and see if that works.
Used RUU. Still not being able to receive messages. going to have to contact Sprint.
Try useing a different RUU if your going to doit again, see if that works...just a thought. Later

I have been having problems receiving texts as well ever since I installed a new ROM (this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090234) 2 days ago.
All functions seem to work fine, including outgoing text messages, but incoming do not work at all.
I had been running Cyanogen Mod 6 for about a year without any problems except speed, just wanted to try a newer and possibly faster ROM. I did have issues whenever I would get a "low space" indicator but that doesn't seem to be the case with the current issue.
I am using Google Voice for voicemail.
My service provider is Cellular South, btw, not Sprint.
Ran the RUU but still didnt work. so i updated to newest build and still didnt work. still havent had a chance to call Sprint.

Problem Solved. Since sprint merged with google my settings where changed and were set to receive text messages to google voice and not my phone. If anyone else has this problem just go to your account in google voice settings and make sure that theres a check mark next to receive text to phone. thanks to all for the help =)

Glad you got it working

That didn't work for me
Of course, I'm not on Sprint, but Cellular South. Still no joy on my end. I actually reverted back to my previous CyanogenMod via Nandroid, which WAS receiving text messages just fine, but now it doesn't work either.
I have the original Cell South 2.1 RUU I could use if necessary, but hoping not to have to do that. Looking like I might have to, though.
Finally got it up and running.
I was about to run the 2.1 RUU but then remembered I made a Nandroid backup of my 2.1 Sense-based config before the first time I rooted so I restored to it and dialed *228 to download the latest updates. The texts then started working, so then I reverted back to my Nandroid backup of my new ROM and it worked like a charm!
