[Q] Windows Mobile 7 on Moto Droid: Is It Possible? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Is this even remotely possible? I love the look and feel of windows mobile 7 but I dont wanna swap over to it. Is there any way to make my droid look like windows mobile? Ive tried the Android phone 7 but it just replaces the icons, it doesn't give the animated messaging/phone/email apps and whatnot. Any suggestions?

wp7 is all qualcomm ... no TI required.
get the certified wp7 for TI then may be..

Hmm.. any ideas on how to do that? Would I need some sort of system dump or would I need to just Google it and hope I get lucky?

Lol it would be much more than that. I think you soul ls have to write drivers fire ti hardware.

Gah. I wish i could. But i dont have the time nor talent to do it. What about just the animated apps?

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-news/90684-theme-windows-phone-7-launcherpro-layout.html
This is all I've heard of so far as to getting a WP7 look on android.

Yeach. I downloaded a huge icon pack that has all the icons in it and use dv. I at least want to get the downward page scrolling. :/

Lookout or Other Virus Protection Really Needed?

use common sense. dont flash **** that you dont know what it is or from someone that isnt respectable. Thats also what the superuser.apk app is for to let you know what app is requesting superuser (root) access, then you can either deny or allow on an individual basis or on a permanent basis.
I don't know about the virus protection part but lookout is great if some tries to take your phone. mine was taken last Thursday and it was recovered the same day thanks to Lookout, and it has a nice backup feature to it too.
Hi,
Noob here.
I currently running my HD2 on Darkstone Froyo, do I install the Lookout program on my Windows or Android software?
I'm assuming Windows, right? since currently I manually load Android.
Incase my phone is stolen & shutoff, at somepoint on start-up it will load Windows and pin point it.

That would make the most sense to me. If you have to manually load Android then Windows is where you want it. You should probably ask this in the HD2 section though. This really has nothing to do with the Eris, and not completely an Android question either. The question is specific to people that dual boot Windows and Android, so the guys over there are going to have a lot more accurate information. You may need to have it installed to both Android and Windows, they will be able to help you out more.
I swear by lookout, not so much for virus protection, but for lost device locating and for the backup feature. It's all free and right now I believe it's unlimited. It only does photos, but still it's free and automatic. I recommend it to everyone. I just got my wife to install it on her CrackBerry.
Yeah like others have said the virus protection might not be needed. But the rest of the features are awesome and make the free app worth getting.

I bought a legend because of it's specs, screen, finish (aluminium casing),it cost way less than an iPhone, and finally because of Sense. The only reason i wanted to see would it work is because im sick of Google waiting to open the Paid market in Ireland (i know this is the case in alot of other contries aswell)

The HTC Legend has simular specs to the iPhone and you cant put the compare the Nokia 3310 in any way to the HTC Legend. As s7yler pointed out it the iPhone has been ported to Android. Im sorry if i took 2 minutes of your time but i was just curious if it would work, or if we could see it in the future! Hell i haven't even rooted my Legend yet! So thanks for your reaction, as i said i was just curious.

true even android can be run on some of the WM devices, because of the boot process, and phone spec. But iOS has completely different boot system/process though its not possible to run it on other devices (for now) , besides have you seen iOS run on any other devices then Apple's ? don't thinks so mate..
Also one big thing to remember...
The only reson android runs on ipod/iphone is because android is open source... and that is more easy to handle and port (Not that i am saying it was easy for them to port Android to the i devices as apple hardware is also keep as close source) then a closed source system as iOS....
It will be the same as porting Windows 7 to ARM or PowerPC cpu.... not something you can do without having access to the source code of windows...
Hmm i have run MAC OS on a pc so it is possible tbh

to be nice i wont say how many ways that statement is wrong...
but most of osx IS open source... NONE of iOS is open source...
And the only reson it is possibel to run osx on a pc is because the basic part of osx is open source and that is the kernel so it can be modded and rebuild to work on diffrent cpu's....
I know there are bin patched versions of the mach_kernel but they are never as good as the one that they make when apple release the source and that normal happens 14 days after the os update...
(to end this with a statement why i can say all this i can tell you i have been a active osx86 user the last 5 years, been really involved in the help channels and know a lot of the devs)

There is a solution to paid market not available. When I had android on my Diamond I used it for a while and the paid application were still unavailable in canada at this time so I made a little search on this and I found something.
There is an application that can make the market think you are from UK or US and then you have acces to all the paid application. You still need to pay but you have acces to buy them at least.
I don't remember the name but it was something like "market enabler". Sorry I erased all android data of my phone cause there is no more development in this direction and GPS, bluetooth and camera were still missing. I can't even think of living without google maps with AGPS and speeking while driving is illegal over here unless using a bluetooth headset or an hands free system.
Good luck with that.

Can we remove the Bloat?

All im looking to do is get rid of the bloat apps that the X comes with. Even if we cant have custom roms, can this still be done? Im coming from an Omnia and i know the only way to get rid of the useless stuff was to flash. Does this work the same way with Android?
Yes Yes i have never had a Android phone before. Very excited about making the switch once the X is released
You will need root access and then use adb to remove apps.
Custom Rom on Motorola Milestone
How to load a custom ROM on your motorola milestone via the unlockr site on youtube was posted yesterday by sjones765, so there's still hope for us. I'm not allowed to paste links so this was the best I could do.

Well that's definitely good news... looking for it now...
*edit*
That's not what you're looking for. That's just about Nandroid backups - not ROMs. Nandroid backups are just a backup of your System, Data, etc. It lets you manipulate your current system but not flashing a ROM built from the source. (No update.zip's)
A noob on Android
Thnx for the edification Adam , went back to the unlockr and they said it was only for unlocked GSM phones. Thought maybe it was something we could use . Have a HD2 myself and with these forums help I've turned into a flashing junkie, easy with WinMo. I got alot more to learn.
I would also like to know if we can tweak the rom that Motorola gives us with the phone and then put it bake on with the proper signature...would this be possible???
No, not without some kind soul at Motorola giving us their key.
What particular do you wish to remove?
NFS shift can be removed.
Amazon mp3, Blockbuster, and City ID can't be easily removed.
I think I will just keep Skype Mobile.
To be honest, and this is my first android phone, there doesn't seem to be much bloat. I've pretty much ignored all of the motorola stuff and deleted all of the supplied widgets, replacing them with android ones. The only other stuff on there is a few apps. There isn't even any verizon stuff preinstalled, thank jebus.
I like City ID (very handy), and Skype mobile is useful sometimes. The blockbuster and amazon mp3 apps don't hurt me.

Yeah, I kind of agree. Outside of CityID, there's nothing I really hate and want to get rid of. Will I ever use Blockbuster or Amazon MP3 store? Probably not, but it doesn't really hurt me to see them on my app list.

City ID keeps popping up and asking me if I want to pay for it. I'd like to remove it, but don't see an option for that.
Is that even legal for them to install an extortionist virus on our phones without any way of removal?
I'd rather pay the dev who gets root on this phone.
Here's $10 to anyone who roots the Droid X.

Ahh, Amiga...good old days indeed! True preemptive multitasking OS, intuitive GUI in Workbench, and the graphics and sound fidelity... mmm... in 1987! Microsoft could not boast of that complete set of features in a consumer OS until Win 95. After my C64 I briefly had an Amiga. Then I moved to the States and got an Intel 386 box running MS-DOS and Win 3.1. Faster chip, more memory, and more hardware flexibility, to be sure...but the OS was a giant step back.

Amazing droid3 hacks?

hey i noticed how ios has amazing hacks once you jailbreak it. things that you didnt even know would be possible with the device. are there hacks like this with android? i love my droid and wanna see everything it can do. post your top hacks to help me out :]
Search the word "root" or go to the android development area of the D3 forum and your mind will be blown..
i have steeldroid 3.0 its great. i mean things lik cydia for the iphone, where its a market that just features thousands of user developed mods
Ha! Oh yes my friend. We have "root" our jailbreaking term, and much more. We have more stock that we can do that you cannot do on a jailbroken iPhone. But yes, to theme it and have super user access you need to root.
Definitely look into rooting. just know that 1) it voids your warranty if something gets messed up(but same with jailbreak of iphone anways so who cares) 2) RESEARCH before your start messing with things and read up on things because i can tell u from firsthand experience, your going to brick your phone if you do not put some solid time into research. i bricked my phone because i just wanted my phone to look cool and i didnt care about the effects it would have. I flashed a "non flashable" zip on my phone and that was the end of that haha. I am by no means a pro. I only recently got into the rooting of the phones this past year and a half or so. But XDA is a great way to learn what you dont know already. I learned almost everything on this website. The people here are extremely knowledged(a lot more than me lol) and someone will always be there to answer questions you have. Once you root.. a whole new lifestyle emerges
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
jailbreaking is nothing compared to root acess
acess to system files basically able to modify anything you want. ios has "live wallpapers" once you jailbreak not! more like looped mp4s. android is open source has widgets flash. ios doesnt compare.

You can find most emulators on the market or online. I have a nintendo64, gameboy color, and gameboy advance emulator I found on the market.
We also just found out about the camera app rom the Atrix. If we replace our camera app with that one, everything about the camera speeds up.
Its also all about looking in the right place for stuff. Instead of having Cydia, we have XDA.

Here's you answer. Flashing ROMs and Rooting is like jailbreaking. I see no purpose for rooting unless you want to flash a custom ROM.
Rooting also allows you to use apps that need to be rooted, like Titanium backup and one of those screen shot apps.
As for hacking after rooting? I have no idea. Just install personalization and productivity apps.
Many apps that would be in Cydia are already in Google's Market since it is not as restrictive as Apple's. You can find console emulators there. For phone specific tweaks and programs this forum is a good place to check. Its harder to find hardware tweak programs since there are so many Android phones and only one iPhone. But for software there is a lot out there, custom stuff and beta apks if you want to try them.
I really don't think there is much you can do with iOS
I mean yeah there's some customizing
but I've never seen a fully customized ipod or iphone

I don't think so. I think there are many customizations on the hacked iPhone because it's restricted some features in the first place.
I think to you Android doesn't have any customizations because there are so many customizations in the first place without the need for rooting that you're convinced that rooting it doesn't do much at all (besides custom Roms).
Call it an illusion?
Otherwise show us some things the jailbroken iPhone can do that a non-rooted Android device can not.

barrelroll 3d [the ability it has to switch animations without having to flash]
cydia elite pro theme [compare that to a normal iphone theme. they can change their signal bars to be wateva symbol or picture, color of their time, how many icons on the screen, everything, without having to flash their device]

Try LauncherPro by Federico and change the transition effect to whatever you like.
Graviboard
Here are some similar stuff: "Shake Them All!" by YOUGLI and "Seeds of Life" Live by We Like CAPS!
Cydia Elite Pro
The hard way: flash a custom ROM or design your own ROM
The incomplete way: download a custom launcher like LauncherPro, or some apps that appear in the notification tray like Quick Settings.
The best way: create demand for it, start asking for it, petition for something like Cydia Elite Pro.
BTW, with LauncherPro you can: change scroll animation, set number of columns/rolls/icons, change your dock at the bottom, hide notification bar on top. And LauncherPro is only one of many launchers.
Furthermore, believe me when I say it's possible. There used to be an app for Windows Mobile to modify the icons and appearance of the notification tray on top of the screen. I think that if Windows Mobile can do it, then Android can do it. So what can you do? Talk to the person who developed the Windows Mobile app and tell him to join Android development. As for the name of the app and the developer; I don't remember who made it or what it's called but I am not lying to you.
What you've asked for are 100% possible on Android. What you need is patience and to be able to ask for it.
Sorry Dri94 but why don't you just use your Droid 3 for a couple of weeks and test and try everything instead of comparing everything with the i*hone. When I switched from Symbian to WinMo 6 I did the same.
If you're worried about having to "flash the device" to get custom features then Android is too advanced for you, get an iPhone. All those Cydia tweaks do is change little pieces of Apple's crappy ass launcher. Flashing a ROM gives us an entirely customized and optimized version of Android. There's hundreds of system wide themes you can apply with Theme Chooser, which is built into CyanogenMod.

As for the name of the app and the developer; I don't remember who made it or what it's called but I am not lying to you.
What you've asked for are 100% possible on Android. What you need is patience and to be able to ask for it.

THanks you helped alot ! this is what i was looking for. Well im a photo editor and a java programmer, ill see if i can start my own work on creating in depth themes like that, and ask people here in the community for help. People here seem to be geniuses at coding. its really cool to see!!!

If you read, instead of being douchey to the iphone, you woudl see i already flashed my device, its not too advanced for me. I keep getting talked to dumb because i use the word iphone, its not forbidden and its a good device. Android is better but its dumb to say iphone isnt good at all, and to treat me like im dumb because i like both devices... its just an inconvience if im walking around and need to flash my device just to get different things. i often try 20 different things before i choose one. CyanogenMod is still in alpha btw. when it comes out then i will definitely use it tho. it looks awesome

Also, I tried to remember the name of the apps that I used to tweak the notification tray, but I just can't find it (not even searching by history on XDA). If I remember the app, I'll tell you and I suggest you contact those developers. Based on my experiences as a consumer, some developers do listen.
I have both iPhone and Note 3
lifehacker (dot) com/5916593/ forget-android-the-iphone-is-a-better-phone-for-hacking-tweaking-and-customization
This link sums it up. I literally have more tweaks and customizations on the jailbroken iPhone than I do with my rooted Note 3. QuickDo, reveal, bitesms, phantom (for snapchat), pandora downloader, mewseek, codescrambler, cyueye, f.lux, flagpaint, folderenhancer, rageboard, quickphoto, locationholic, luna, octopus keyboard (blows any android alternative away) protecti, spotdict, springtomize, and zeppelin.
I love the note 3 though, hands down better in terms of everything. size, speed and specs. I just think that the Cydia/Jailbreak community is much more integrated and tighter. Jailbreak is easy to get rid of and go back to stock without having to worry about any KNOX flags being tripped etc. Simply restore with iTunes and that is it. I would like to see some of the tweaks I mentioned and maybe have a more centralized repository, especially for us new to android from ios
