FROYO update with OCLF = Broken SGS (Help!) - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was stupid enough to update with OCLF installed and running. After updating my phone started up and i'm stuck at the "Touch the android to begin" with a bunch of "sorry" error messages popping up about the android.process.acore has stopped working kinda thing. I have tried recovering and still nothing.
Please, please, please help! Got the SGS as a recent present
I'm with vodaphone if that helps?
Thanks!!

Go into recovery mode (vol up + menu button + power) and do a factory reset.

hmmm
thats weird me and my friend both did this. and he got the error messages too. Couldn't do anything at the start wizard.
His didn't have the 3 button reset so he went onto http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
and rebooted his galaxy with the sdk tools into recovery mode. and did the factory reset from there.
ARE YOU SURE u did the factory reset right? cus it SHOULD work

You are going to need to reflash your stock firmware using odin. Recovery mode is not going to help you at this point.

Newbie needs help !

Hi all
Hope someone on here can help with this
Just got the SGS and i updated the firmware to I9000XXjM1 via Kies which all seem to go well until i rebooted my phone and now it just comes up with errors (you know the one in a blue box saying Sorry unexpected error) everytime i try to run an app ! Ive tried a factory reset via the one in privacy settings and the one on boot up by holding volume key, home and power but neither have any affect what so ever.
So i had some help over on samsunggalaxysforums.com to reflash the phone which i have done but still no joy its still exactly the same as before the reflash but the strangest thing is that the phone is still exactly the same as before the reflash i.e its still got all the apps that i installed, still got wallpapers i downloaded, still trying to sign into facebook, its as though the reflash hasn't done anything
Completely baffled now !!
Would really appreciate some help
Thanks in advance
Anyone ?

[Q] Help me,please

I updated my galaxy with KIES,and after restarting my phone go to logo SAMSUNG and vibrate every minut. And then is dark screen.
I can`t go into recovery or download mode.
What can i do?
First of all you could have it posted in QnA
Second, use search.
And third -> Go to recovery mode (vol+ + home + power)
do hard reset and wipe cache.
Report if it helps
Of course you will lose ur settings, accounts...
Maybe try first wipe-cache only.
I think you didn`t read my post carefully, I wrote that I can not get into recovery mode.

3-Button-Combo Bug? Why you haven't fixed it before flashing another firmware?
You've bricked your Phone.
U have usb debugging on? If yes try 'adb reboot recovery'
If no download mode, no recovery... Samsung only can help.
Hey guys,
I posted in a thread in Q&A.

I just want to be clear ...
So I last night I flashed JPK, PDA/MODEM/CSC with 512pit installed latest oneclick lag fix 2.1.1, SGS tools and other basic apps. Was running perfect all night except that RAM seemed to be eaten up easily.
Then this morning Advanced Task Killer Froyo Beta started acting up. So I tried a reboot and then I got this black screen issue.
Tried reflashing JPK again. Just successfully flashed JH2 but still the black screen.
Recovery/Download mode work. With 2.2 recovery mode I was getting SDCARD connect errors on screen, but since JH2 I don't see them. Tried wiping cache partition, and factory reset. Still black screen. I've tried without external SD and SIM and just recently with external SD.
In this JH2 recovery mode "update media, finished" and Apllyting MultiCSC works properly too. When in recovery mode, Kies tries to recognize it, but boot/blackscreen I get nothing.
Is there anything else I can try? I have read through this whole thread, but it's a lot to read and understand. Anything with ADB? When in recovery mode ADB shell returns a device not found

can you go as past the boot screen?
are you able to issue commands?
I can't get past the boot screen on either FW
there was a topic in the Dev forum with some people that were able to successfully come back to 2.1 after flashing 2.2
but i don't remember the tittle of the topic
they originally had the same problem you have reported
if you can find it, then you'll be able to use the same methods they used to come back to a funtional 2.1
I've looked. I tried going to 2.1 but it's the same issue.
New thin though. I now have a image frozen on screen of a box with an arrow coming out of it and the android standing next to it.
What does that mean?
How you get there?

You can't get to USB Debugging unless your phone is working.
It's my issue too, but I at least have the 3 button combo.
If you got debugging mode turned on in settings:
On a PC download android sdk, open command window in tools directory...
type "adb reboot recovery"
But I dont think it may help at all, its just to make u step forward
If you dont have debugging mode turned on in settings:
Only samsung.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S Froyo Upgrade

Yesterday i upgraded my Galaxy S to Froyo 2.2 using kies. The upgrade went fine but the issue is whenever i boot up the phone after a boot it gives force close errors. I have wiped data partition and cache without success. How can i resolve this? Will I have to downgrade? If yes, then how?
Regards
Have you tried wiping data/factory reset via 3-button download mode (by holding volume up+home and then pressing power button until it starts up)?
Same here, did data/factory reset via 3-button mode and now its perfect. Did loose all apps mind you, but who cares
My own rule of thumb is that i dont wipe cache or internal sd (using the recovery vol up+home+power) after an update through kies.
I do it before the upgrade.
Works like a charm.

Hi,

Edit:
Had the exact same thing happen to me, but its just a bad flash.
Download the JM6 zip (in the development forum) and flash it via Odin. after the device has rebooted, if the previous apps havent been deleted, go into recovery and perform a factory reset and reboot again

Read my above post. Go into download mode (volume down + home + power) you'll still have the same image but the phone WILL be in download mode. Then flash your previous firmware and you're sorted.
Sent from my GT-P1000
You probably got that by messing with the kernel. Fund the zImage from the firmware, extract it with a .tar extractor then use something like heimdall to flash the kernel and it should work.

Hi. I'm looking for solution for my problem but nothing has helped me. I cannot restart mu GTab or put it in download mode. I always land into Android system recovery <3e>.
My problem: I cannot restart my GTab anymore. It started when I wanted to do a backup with ROM Manager. Unfortunately EURO TAB isn't supported yet. Then I want to find out whether nandroid backup is possible. From ROM manager I booted into recovery. But there isn't nandroid backup. And now I cannot boot GTab anymore. Every time I restart it brings me back to Android system recovery <3e>. I would be grateful for every solution.
Help please

Having the same problem too... anyone can help?
If you see Phone-!-Pc on the Tab screen it is the download mode.
You can reflash it using Odin, however, you will need to do full Rom flash. I had similar problem and solved it by replashing.
I followed the latest guide published in this forum and Roto-JME rom with reformatting of internal sd.

Hey guys,
I tried to manually update my tab to Gingerbread today via Odin, but it kept hanging on select partition (I discovered I used the wrong PIT for the firmware I was going to flash, but as I didn't select the firmware yet that shouldn't be a problem). At last I decided to quit Odin (which might have been stupid...) and try it again. Then it kept haning even earlier, so I tried to restart the device in download mode. However, whatever I try it keeps giving the Phone ! PC sign. If I try to just boot, if I try to go into recovery mode or if I try to go into download mode. I saw a lot of possible ways to solve the problem, but my PC doesn't recognize the tab anymore. If I connect it, it does give the "usb device connected" sound, but there is a popup which sais "USB Device not recognized. One of the USB Devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message". I already tried to reinstall the driver but it doesn't work. Also Odin and Heimdall don't detect any device.
Does anyone know a solution for this problem? Maybe taking the battery out? (for which I have to buy a new triangle screwdriver, so I need to know if it could possibly work first. It takes some weeks to order such a thing I think...)
EDIT: I played around a bit with the drivers again, and suddenly both Heimdall and Odin recognized it. However Odin stopped recognizing it again. Then I pressed "read PIT" in Heimdall, which worked. After that the device started booting up to the Samsung logo animation and then powered off again. Now it doesn't do anything anymore, not even showing the Phone ! PC screen. I'll charge it overnight (maybe it's gone empty during the process), so I hope that helps.....
In some strange way, the phone works again..... So never mind my post above.

Did you update this way to official ICS?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25947847&postcount=4
If you already did above, then try this:
0. Disconnect USB
1. Power off
2. Hold vol+ & home & power, let go of power once you see Samsung logo
3. You'll be in a special recovery mode. From here you can choose factory reset.

Yeah, I thought maybe you skipped something. I had CheckROM v6 on mine, it's was gingerbread rom. I did a PC Odin upgrade using the stock ICS, and everything was still there working. I did do another factory reset tonight from the settings and not in the recovery menu. Could it be a corrupted download of stock ICS? Some people were saying if you had a custom ICS before, this method won't work. Are you able to put back stock gingerbread?
I have this same problem. Cant get past samsung logo. I tried flashing several times, did factory reset, just wont work. I flashed using heimdall, not odin, would that make a difference?
Flashed back to 2.3.6, that works fine. Tried reflashing official ics, same problem, stuck at samsung logo. Factory reset in cwm does not work. Any ideas?
Hey buddy, I had the same problem tonight when I tried to restart my phone after a build.prop update - changing the wifi interval from 15 to 120... doh!
Got stuck at the boot screen and so out of desperation I decided to wipe, it didnt work. I was still stuck.
So I flashed XXLC1 (Open Euro) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 with PC Odin and it came back ok . I lost root though but thats no biggie, at least I have a working phone now.
Hope that helps you. Good Luck!
