Did you try installing bootstrap?
I have tried installing bootstrap and nothing works...i tried easyroot to unroot it and that didnt work either...its like its bricked...help please
I definitely have the bootstrap installed. I have superuser permissions on it. I have tried to unroot and root again. No matter what I do every time I attempt to reboot into recovery the phone just does a basic reboot.

I have tried to follow the steps given and I have had nothing but problems...I have used terminal emulator and typed in "su" and it responded back with permission denied....Superuser.apk had disappeared from my apps upon installation of fission rom after a data and cache wipe. I have tried to unroot my DX from easyroot and it says unrooted and restart phone..I do that and I am still rooted...I even went on my computer windows 7 64bit and used DroidXRoot to unroot it and it says it was successfull but it didnt seem like it was. I then rerooted it and superusers.apk was not in my applications. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!

not sure why you're tryin to unroot.
superuser is in the market and it's in the /Fission/Addon folder on your mem card. so just install it.
then uninstall bootstrapper. reboot phone. then reinstall it. open it and try it out, and it should ask for su permissions.
or
start over fresh and do an sbf, root, install bootstrapper, install fission 2.1.

Hi alll,
I have a rooted (i think) HTC Legend. I have completed step 1 of the root but had errors with step 2. Now I want to install clockwork rom manager so I can install azure.
But when i download azure using the rom manager app (and after flashing clockwork) it asks me to press OK for a reboot but nothing happens. I have also checked the recovery that I have and it is the one installed as part of the root.
I have tried downgrading the recovery to an older clockwork version, which works and then I installed the latest clockwork again, but i still have the recovery from the step 1 root.
How do i get clockwork recovery installed?
You mentioned errors with step 2.
Did you stick a freshly formatted SD into phone instead of goldcard??
Sent from my Legend
did you downgrade before rooting?
Check your root.
Install a terminal emulator from the Market, if you don't already have one.
Fire it up, type su. If you don't get an error about permissions, then you should have root.
E.E.
chances are, if it did not reboot your system, your not rooted...
Hi all,
Seems if I am having nearly the same problem. The Clockwork Recovery is always freezing when I try to install. So I downloaded the Terminal Emulator from the Market, but when I try to run: "Applikation Terminal Emu (Process com.android.term) has been closed unexpected. Please try again."
SuperUser Permission Reuest also doesn't work, there is happening just nothing when I try to start. Btw thats the same headline what I am having when freezing while installing clockwork recovery.
What went wrong while rooting? Can someone help please
I had some Problems with step2 btw .. because my Legend is the only hardware to get access to the SD Card. So i restarted the phone between step1 and step2, used it as harddrive just to format the SD Card agaein. The I jumped back and started and finished step2 just fine (thats what I thought )
I have put together some steps to take your fresh KA6 2.2 Official update and add Root and ClockworkMod Recovery. It may look hard, but should only take a couple minutes.
This is without ODIN or ROMS.
Steps:
0. Have yourself a T-Mobile Vibrant and PC Running Windows.
1. Use SuperOneClick (latest) to root phone. When you run the application, click the first button on the left and wait for the process to complete. Details will be scrolling in the middle window.(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682)
2. Use a file manager (ROOT EXPLORER) or adb with root access to mount /system/ and remove bloatware (SLACKERRADIO and AMAZONMP3 and such) from /system/app/
2a. TOTAL NOOBS: Get SUPER MANAGER from the market (FREE). Then grant it root by going into SUPER MANAGER and selecting File Manager > [Menu BUTTON] > Setup > Enable ROOT function. Then go up levels, the top button on the file manager which will take you up a directory, until you get to / and scroll to the bottom and select [system]. Then select [app]. Then click [Menu BUTTON] > Switch System to R/W and press R/W. Scroll down and long press the slackerradio.apk to delete. You can do this too amazon market to delete and other useless apps.
3. YOU NEED STEP 2 TO DO THIS STEP! Install Busybox from Market and run Busybox Installer to ensure its properly working and the latest is installed.
4. Run SuperOneClick again to place phone into shell root ADB (Second button from the left). Allow the process to run and then a pop up will say something about rebooting the phone. DO NOT DO THIS, continue on to the next step.
5. While in shell root from the previous step, run (3e) to (2e) modified recovery script. The instructions are simple. Download, unzip, and run the batch file found inside. This is ran from the COMPUTER NOT YOUR PHONE. Use the menu system to complete and then reboot as recommended. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423).
5a. NOT NOOBS: you can copy over the recovery yourself to /system/bin as mentioned by some commenters. If you do not know what this is, then ignore it.
6. Remove any update.zip files from /sdcard/ and also remove any ClockworkMod directories using your favorite file manager or by mounting to a computer with a wire and activating the drive for My Computer. This is the internal one, not external.
7. Use ROM MANAGER from market to install ClockworkMod Recovery and reboot. This is free to download. When you launch, select the top item to install the recovery and then a menu will pop up to choose the phone you have. Happily select Vibrant. Once that's done, select reboot into recover right below that.
8. Re-install packages and it should reboot. You can navigate the menu using VOL UP AND DOWN and power to select.
9. Re-install packages again and it should boot into Clockwork Recovery. It should change form BLUE TO GREEN
ALL DONE.
That should do it for ya! Let me know if it worked out. Please follow all steps and don't cut corners.
Should you need to get back to ClockworkMod Recovery, you can use "adb reboot recovery" and re-install packages, or reboot into recovery with ROM MANAGER.
Edit Rev.a: added a step (6) Made the instructions more precise and added additional steps to clear up some confusion.(1-22-11)
Edit Rev.b: Added step 2a from request. root explorer is not free so use super, that works too. (1-24-11)
Edit Rev.c: Added more detail to the steps and added supplemental info for replacing the recovery with the modified one. (1-27-11)
Edit Rev.d: Super1Click has updated, so latest? works.
Side note: I do step 4 because from my experience, I had trouble getting the modified 3e script to get root. Figured might as well just give it root to begin with.
Side note: Yes I am aware that there are other methods and different ways. This was the noob way for me to convey it to the masses. I still do appreciate all feedback regardless of what it is. Thanks!

Yea I know, but I wanted to find a way without ODIN.
added ur blurp
Reinstalling packages does not seem to work for me. Every time I click it and it reboots it keeps going into the samsung recovery menu... Help?
Does it give an error for signing or just looks like its working then reboots?
Looks like it works and then reboots
I didn't do this step though, would it affect anything?
2.Use a file manager or adb with root access to mount /system/ and remove bloatware (SLACKER and AMAZONMP3) from /system/app/
Double check if there is a update.zip and clockworkmod folder with a zip in it on your internal memory. I think the external card changed directories with the 2.2 update.
EDIT: infact, remove any update.zip and clockwork folder from the internal memory and run ROM MANAGER again and fresh download the clockwork 2.5.1.2. then check and confirm its on the internal. should be /sdcard/
once its confirmed there, then try again to reboot into recovery with rom manager

I would highly suggest doing that step. The system is full to begin with. Use Root Explorer and grant access, then mount system into r/w and remove the stupid stuff. You should do this to get Busybox on (AS IN BEFORE YOU INSTALL BUSYBOX)

Awesome! Good to hear. This is my first tutorial and I'm stoked that its working well for others.
I've been an XDA visitor since my AT&T Titan WM6 days. I've done alot of flashing and modding since then and have always been able to find solutions without asking until now. This clockwork recovery issue is kicking my butt.
I am having trouble with steps 4 & 5.
what are the specific buttons to press on superoneclick in step 4?
How exactly do I use the file 3(e)_recovery_installer?
Thanks for any help.

4. Run SuperOneClick again to place phone into root shell ADB
For this step, run SuperOneClick from before, the same you used to root. The second button says "Shell Root". Click that Wait for it to say you have shell root until you reset.
5. Run (3e) to (2e) modified recovery script (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423)
Just download the attachment in the first post and follow instructions. Its fairly simple process. Keep in mind, this may not work unless your phone is shell root from step 4
Thank you Nothingness. Cleared it right up. Worked perfectly.

What do you mean safe mode? What I would do is (since you're on cm7) is download and install es file explorer or root explorer from the market. Go to applications in the settings menu and move all apps back to the sd card, then open ESFE (give it root permissions for cyanogenmod in the settings...) or root explorer and go into /data/app and backup ALL apk files by multi selecting them all and copying them to your sd card. Then I'd flash clockworkmod recovery v3.0 + and then wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe factory data/reset, format system, boot, data, cache then install cm7 v 7.0.2 and gapps reboot into the phone and then once you get it set up again, use cm7's default file manager to install all your apk files again. THEN! open adb shell or your terminal emulator app and type this:
su (if using terminal emulator)
mkdir /cache/download
chmod a+x /cache/download
chmod ug+rwx /cache/download
then go into your market and read and accept the terms of service
then once you open the market it should have ALMOST all of your apps you have gotten listed (my market doesnt show everyone because i have about 30-40 apps I use).
This should fix it. If it doesn't then open ESFE (after giving it root permissions in the settings again) or root explorer and AFTER opening the market for the first time. Wipe the market's data in the /data/data directory and look for the vending folder(s) and delete those. Then reboot recovery and wipe cache, and then open the market again Should fix it so you have most of your apps showing
Have a nice time on CM7 v7.0.2

you probably held the menu button while it was on the bootanimation witch will make it go into safe just reboot it and you should be fine.
yes phones do have a safe mode much like a pc does so it makes it eiser to get in and do a reset if somethings screwing up.
the first time i experienced this was on nfx stock apps2sd i accedintly held the menu on boot up and it said safe mode on the bottom left corner and i was like what the hell is this so i rebooted and it was fine.
I've read the guides, tried manual and the simple download from the Android Market. Here's what happens:
I've rooted my Thrill with SuperOneClick 2.1.1. It was a successful root from what I can tell, it added Superuser into my apps, and I was able to download Rom Manager from the Android Market.
If I try using Rom Manager and click "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" It appears to install. But when I hit "Reboot into Recovery" it just reboots like normal.
If I try to manually get into recovery mode by holding volume down and the 3D button it just boots into the stock recovery mode.
When I try to manually install Clockwork and copy recovery.img to /data with cmd I get this:
failed to copy recovery.img permission denied

Thanks for any help, I'm hoping it's just a small little step I missed.

This is covered in the cwm thread in development section you need to use a file explorer that has root access and change permissions to the /data folder. You can use es file explorer, its free. Open it go into settings then browse as root... not really sure exact steps but they are in the came thread.
O my such a small step I missed! Thank you! Ill try this later today.
Permissions of /data are set to R/W but I still get the same error..
I'm starting to wonder if the cause of this is because I tried using Rom Manager to flash clockwork, THEN tried the adb method. Maybe it already being there is causing the permission denied?
edit: so it looks like it was as simple as me looking over the permissions and thinking I saw everything was checked, but really the two checks from the left under "other" were grayed out lol, checking those fixed it.

The easiest way would be to open the "Terminal" (if not installed -> this is what you're looking for) and type 'su'.
If the su binary exists and works you're most likely rooted.
The build string of 2.1.1.A.0.6 means you got the genuine Sony Ericsson Android 2.1 series ROM.
Android 2.1 ("Eclair") - 2.1.x
Android 2.2 ("Froyo") - 2.2.x
Android 2.3 ("Gingerbread") - 2.3.x
Finally, yes you need to install a custom ROM in order to run Android 2.2 (i.e. FroyoPro 2.4 by lrakkarl) or Android 2.3 (i.e. GingerDX by doixanh)

Type su and press enter (the button bottom and right in the keyboard) the $ icon will turn to # if you are rooted and it will tell sth like "access denied" if you are not.
If you have superuser and you haven't downloaded from market you are rooted.
If you want to know how to install a custom rom just use the search button and you will find a lot of threads!

No, I was talking about these ROMs (at the time of writing) here:
FroyoPro v2.4 by lrakkarl
GingerDX v022 by doixanh (Recommended)
Note about GingerDX Downloads:
The download links in doixanh's post are dead at the moment. Click the Link in my signature for GingerDX downloads ... but read on first.
Now, as for xRecovery:
To make it easy for you. Click the link in my signature and hop into the "Recoveries" folder. Download the "xRecovery_Installer_v0.1.apk", copy it onto the SD card of your phone (connect in USB-Storage mode and copy the file).
By using a File Manager like Root Browser Lite you then install the APK from your SD card.
One it has been installed you will find the "xRecovery Installer" icon in the list of apps - tap it, follow instructions to install xRecovery.
Once you installed xRecovery continue like this ...
Download GingerDX v013 AND GingerDX v022 as well as the ModulesStockKernel AddOn (you find everything in my MediaFire folder).
Copy all three files onto your SD card.
Once the files are copied ...
Reboot the phone and keep on pressing the "BACK" button once the "Sony Ericsson" logo shows up to get into xRecovery.
In there you select to flash a custom zip, navigate to the GingerDX v013 ZIP on your SD card and flash it.
Once that ROM has been flashed reboot.
Once the "Sony Ericsson" logo shows up again keep on tapping onto the screen to get into ClockworkMod recovery (do NOT boot up yet)!
In there you do almost the same as before ...
Select to flash a custom zip, navigate to the GingerDX v022 ZIP on your SD card and flash it.
Once the flash has been done you select to flash a custom ZIP again and flash the ModulesStockKernel ZIP.
Once that is done you select "Full Wipe (Factory Reset)" and then you are free to reboot into GingerDX v022.
In case of questions, post.

Everytime I've used SuperOneClick its has installed busybox as part of the rooting process. Just try rooting your phone again and put the output from the log in this thread if you're still having issues. This is normally a very straight forward process.

i removed busybox(from market)from my phone and rerooted ,succesfull but than i went to terminal emulator and type su ......no #!!!!!!!
I am going to reroot one more time if a failed i am going to factory data erase!
I'd say re-root your phone with SuperOneClick again. Once you believe that it is rooted, go to the market and search for an app with "root" in its name (e.g. something like "root memory manager" - Or any program that states root access is needed). Install the app and then load it up, it should then popup asking to allow superuser acsess, click "Allow" - The App should load as intended.... This means your phone IS roooted! (Click yes on the popup to allow root access too the app, job done!)
ok i am going to try that but now i must go!
seems like you have to reroot it.
pay attention to the installation of busybox:
if this dont fix your problem then as you said do a full wipe and try again!
@mario1024
The xRecovery Installer (the APK I recommended to you) installs everything you need - the xRecovery Installer will put busybox, chargemon and xrecovery.tar into the system ... you, of course, need to have root.
If you have problems rooting with SuperOneClick ...
Download Flashtool v0.2.9.1 (again, see the link in my Sig and hop into the "Flashtool" folder).
Boot your phone, enable USB-Debugging, connect to phone to the computer in "Charging mode".
- Start Flashtool
- Press the "Root" button
A automatic reboot will follow!
Once the phone rebooted...
Connect in "Charging mode" again.
- Press the "Ask root perm" button and look at your phone.
You will get a popup from Superuser to grant su permissions.
Confirm the request!
- Now click the "xRecovery" button to inject xRecovery into your phone.
Done - rooted and xRecovery in one go.

No, there's no alternative to xRecovery.
EDIT: Not entirely true ... there's the x8toolbox by puppet13th that's able to inject Dual Recovery (xRecovery AND ClockworkMod recovery) - though you need root for x8toolbox to do its job.
Anyhow, since you are trying for quite a few attempts now: To be on the safe side, as the thing that happened was not the intended outcome, try to restore back to plain Stock ROM and re-try from there.
Using a clean Stock ROM may lead to what we want without troubles.
