Does anyone know how I can change the lock and unlock sounds on my phone? I found The correct sound format for the phone (.ogg) so I put it them on my phone and then using root explorer dropped and replaced them over the factory ones...but didnt work. It weird because it I click them it will play the sound like everything is correct but just wont work. I made sure that I have the screen lock sounds checked in my settings on my phone.
These are the files I wanted to use:

you just can switch Lock.ogg/TW_Unlock_Glass.ogg file located system/media/audio/ui folder
and reboot
edit. it's case sensitive!!
The name of the files are case sensitive, when you want to overwrite the original file it should follow the same. for example if you copy unlock.ogg it doesn't work it should be Unlock.ogg with capital U. give it a try

ok guys.... here is where im at... i wanted to replace the camera click sound to the sound of the camera from texas chainsaw massacre.... i just like the way it sounds... i downloaded the file, converted it to .ogg renamed it camera_click.ogg but i am not sure what to do from here. i know i need to unzip the apk, replace the file, zip it again, and sign the file, but i have no clue where to begin on that. any help would be appreciated guys!
PS- i attached the .ogg file just remove the .zip to listen to it. also, if anyone just wants to try to tackle job that would rock as well
where did the ogg come from? (as in what location)
You should just be able to push it back using the terminal
cp /sdcard/nameoffile.apk /new/location/

i want to try it, but im too chickensh** to try it right now, got class in the morning and i dont wanna spend tonight wiping my phone and setting things back up if it doesnt work right lol
question... once i edit the files i need to, i zip back up and it is named as zip... do i just change .zip to .apk and voila its changed and able to push to my phone or am i missing something here?
so i got the file replaced, but when i try to push/install back to my phone through adb i get install parse error. i tried using stericsons autosign util but no luck getting it working on my computer at the moment. if i upload the zip of the camera with the file replaced can someone sign and upload it back here again so i can use it? I would appreciate it.
EDIT---I got it signed and installed, but none of the sounds from the camera app play when i take a picture. Any idea as to why this may be?

Don't zip it. Open the apk with winrar and drag and drop in the new sound, it should remain as an apk. At this point you can try pushing it as it is. If it doesn't work then sign it, and make sure the method you're using works for apks (some are only for update.zip). If that adds a .zip on the end, remove it.

Yeah, I'm 99% sure that the length is the problem, just due to the way the app is programmed to load sounds. Wouldn't hurt to make it the same bit rate.

I had made some custom ringtones thru iTunes and a ringtone app. They show up under Menu/Settings/Sound/Phone Ringtone. Most show up on the sd card under media either Ringtones (a folder I created for the iTunes one) and media/audio/ringtones.
But when I go to system/media thru Root Explorer, only the stock ones show. Using eVils 1.18 rom.
How can I delete the ones under Menu/Settings/Sound/Phone Ringtone? If I can't see them thru root explorer. Or, am I looking in wrong place?
Ken
Files in the /system/media folder are the system ringtones. The ones that you saved are on the sdcard under /media.
The ones you see under settings are all the ringtones from both the system and sdcard.
I personally don't use any of the system ringtones...so I delete them with Root Explorer. But, to see the effects...you must reboot. At this point...you'll only see your saved ringtones when you go back into settings. Hope that's what you were asking to solve.
Thanks SiNJiN76,
I now understand.
Problem now is I have some ringtones in Menu/Settings/Sound/Phone Ringtone that don't show on the sd or root explorer. They don't even have the right song tied to the title. Almost like they multi duplicated.
How can I delete them. My guess is I can't unless I restore.
Thanks,
Ken
I'm a bit stumped here. Maybe use the search function on Root Explorer for those file names? I know that I often overlook the search function all the time. Maybe the app that you used is somehow populating the menu with those ringtones hidden in its own folder somewhere? Hope I've been able to give you clues to solve this mystery of yours.
No problem,
It is a wierd one, I have 7 ringtones titled Hotel California that play Gypsy. Not sure how they got there or why there is 7 of them.
They only appear on the phone dropdown menu for ringtones, nowhere else.
I'll try the search.
EDIT: Search found them. Deleted, rebooted, gone. Thanks for the tip. It is a forgotten function.

when I try and delete it says I can't because the file is system read only file. Checked properties, but it doesn't show that (like a normal computer property list). So how do you change this so I can delete the stock ringtones which I never use?

Be sure to use a file explorer that has root access. If you are using the latest version of root explorer, it asks you if you temporarily want to mount as read/write (something like that). Once deleted restart the phone.

NV. Misread. Ha ha. You must have been editing your post while I was posting.
Hi guys!
First off sorry for making a new thread about this. I read 3 or 4 on the subject but Im still having no luck.
I dont want to have to mute the volume everytime I want to take a photo
so I prefer changing it in the system.
My model is a Korean Note so that "could" be why I cant diable the shutter sound.
My phone is rooted and in Astro file manager, I went into the appropriate location and added the extension .off, .bak, .backup I tried all three when I tredi to rename the Shutter_01.ogg, and it still doesnt work
Any ideas? Thanks!!!
Try renaming the "ui" directory. If that works, then you'll know it's one of the other OGG files in there. Then if that works, look for something camera-related. I think different ROMs use different sound files.

Which file explorer are you using? Even though your Note is rooted, the file explorer you use still has to run as root (e.g. Root Explorer).
I think in my ui directory, I have a few sound files beginning with "camera". You could try renaming those one at a time (if you have them).
delete Shutter_01.ogg at system/media/audio/ui
edit: sorry didnt read all your post and if u deleted that file it shouldnt give any sound while taking photo, strange :/

oh that worked. But what file should I delete to remove that short beep sound when I take a picture? The shutter sound is gone but not the beep before
I found how get boot sounds on my Revo with BrokenOut. Here are the steps I used.
1) Find whatever music file you like (should fairly be short)
2) Convert it to an ogg file with your favorite music editor.
3) Rename the file you just created to VZW_PowerOn.ogg
4) Mount System as R/W if is R/O
5) Put the VZW_PowerOn.ogg file into /system/sounds/power
6) Reboot
Please let me know how works!
Thanks
Here is a screenshot while in Root Explorer.
It didn't work for me. I skipped Step 4 - I was able to create the /power directory and rename the .ogg file and put it in there, so I didn't think I needed to do Step 4. Is that where it went wrong? Let me know, as I think it'd be great to have a boot sound!
I added a screenshot to the original post above while inside Root Explorer.
This is for Broken Out. If you are using a different rom I can't help.
Another problem could be that the sound is too long. I would keep it under 15 sec.
Make sure the sound plays correctly on your phone before restarting.
Have a look at the screenshot. Make sure the sound is in the correct location.
Hope this helps!
works for me.

I am on BO and using Super Manager I do not have the extension of for power that you show in the screenshot.
I can get system/sounds/effect. It shows LowBatteryM3.ogg but does not show a power option. Any thoughts?
Just make the necessary folder and put the sound inside.
Need help updating
I would love to be able to update my revolution from gingervolt 2.0 to Broken Out Revo but unfortunately every link to the vz7 rom takes me to a dead end. This is becoming very frustrating, could someone please provide a link to download vz7 that actually works?
I'm trying to change the UI sounds like the touch sounds and the lock/unlock. I've replaced them in system/media/audio/ui but they aren't changing. Any ideas why they won't change? Thanks.

Make sure they are properly named and have proper permissions. I have changed many sound on my phone also make sure they are .ogg format. Also you should rename the original file to add .bak incase you want to revert back, just drop the added extension.
Here's the site to convert to .ogg

Yeah even when I do all that it doesn't work.

Ah. Looks like I'm replacing the wrong sounds. Unlock isn't the unlock sound. Silly me.
