[Q] My HTC HD7 - Signal problems - HD7 General

Hello,
i recently purchased my HTC HD 7 from o2-uk (PAYG); Happy as Larry with it!
The only problem is, i don't get 3g signal, i get it very rarely in the middle of town centres etc.
I have unlocked the phone (htc imie unlock request type) to try it with my '3' simcard. Now i am definite that this sim card gets 3g signal in set places, and in those set places in the HD7, it doesnt get 3g signal
The question is, is my phone faulty? I from a friend that they have had to send theirs back because there is a problem with some HD7's.
After e-mailing o2 they said that i couldn't return the phone for a repair because unlocking the phone broke the terms and conditions.
"Tariff transfer and Mobile Phone locking
13.1 If you wish to transfer to another O2 tariff, please contact O2
Customer Service, for applicable qualifying criteria and charges
13.2 Your Mobile Phone is likely to be locked to the Network. If this is
the case, you must not insert another operator's SIM card into the
Mobile Phone without an unlatching code (which is not your PIN code). We
will on request provide an unlatching code after a qualifying period.
Failure to enter the correct unlatching code may result in your Mobile
Phone becoming permanently blocked. We can accept no responsibility for
Mobile Phones blocked in this way. Contact O2 Customer Service for
further information on the qualifying period, applicable conditions and
charges. This clause 13.2 does not apply if you have purchased a SIM
card only and, at the time of purchase of the SIM card, you are
connected to a network other than the O2 Network."
Looking through the quote they sent me of the T&C's i can not see where i have broken them as it says
"you may not insert another network providers sim card without the unlatching code" and nowhere does it say that i should get that code from o2.
Anyway, my question is, shall i try to dispute the fact that they owe me a fixed phone, or will there be a software update that could fix my problem
Torchzack

Make sure you choose P&G in Connection Setup

That's the first thing i did because it wouldn't even connect to the internet, however there has been no improvement.
I am going to my local o2 shop today to see what they say.
Hopefully be a replacement phone and i can use a smartphone that actually has internet on it!

postpaid 2 prepaid

I have a xda11s i have used the sim unlock tool it works but its not leting me phone out or letin me get incoming calls i think it is that i am using a pay as u go sim on a post paid phone is their any way i can get it from postpaid 2 prepaid
thanks
I don't think that sim and/or phone can be prepaid/postpaid. This is GSM netowor invoicing system, and has nothing to do with phone nor SIM.
Insert your SIM into different phone and check, if you have same problems. If so, call your operator.
I use Cingular Go (Prepaid) with my SX66 ... no issues at all. You may have some issue specific to your sim (it may be corrupt or damaged). Just my thoughts on it.
it not depends on payment type...simlock means, that the phone is coded that it'll accept sim from the network provider who sold the phone...

3G not working...

Briefly, I have had a few issues with my device. One was the inability to register my S/N on HTC's EU site. Several other reports of this have surfaced as well. That is being addressed through MobilePlanet's very helpful rep James. Glitch on HTC's database apparantly. The second, as Dan mentioned, is my phones total failure to see the 3G network. I now know why...
I spent almost an hour on with AT&T's data support and the guy said the reason was the failure of my devices IMEI# to register the devices hardware. There seems to be no hardware profile for the TyTnII ansd therefore it comes up as an "unknown device" in their provisioning system. I confirmed this on my visit to the store this afternoon as the rep there showed me the screen and sure enough, it comes up as unknown, and the setting for this selection is GSM, not UMTS which all of their 3G phones are set to. He said, your device "does not exist" in a valid profile as a UMTS device and therefore will never be able to see a 3G signal even if I was sitting under a 3G tower... He showed me his phone which is 3G capable and id did indeed have UMTS and a valid hardware profile.
So, looks like I am SOL for 3G unless MP can help. Not happy tonight... I am going to speak with MP again tomorrow or Monday, and see what they suggest, if this can't be solved, I may be returning my new baby. 3G was an important selling point 4 me as I do a lot of data xfers.
BTW, I'm in NorhtEast NJ within a known 3G area. area.
hummmmmmm??? granted i'm in dallas, but, i'm on AT&T and i just popped my 3G SIM (used for a 3125) into my Kaiser and i get 3G with no issues. i would have tried the ATT guy's SIM in your phone (and vice-versa) to validate the profile issue. you didn't mention this, but i assume you have a 3G SIM , correct? i'm interested to hear if other ATT users have had this problem....what about trying a new SIM or one from a friend that has 3G?

Yes, that will work. Per AT&T data support, since mine is an unlocked unit with an IMEI# not in ATT's system, it will never be able to do 3G. Everyone that did get it to work just switched out their existing 3G capable sim to the new Kaiser. I came over from Verizon, so unless I buy a cheap 3G ATT phone, I'm out of luck.
Switching the sim for a new one did no good, same IMEI#, so no help.
Bill
I made the mistake of giving at&t my new IMEI# when I went from the 8525 to the Kaiser. Now my phone profile is set to GSM only since it is an unknown profile in there system. I will either have to buy a cheap 3G phone and use that SIM and IMEI# so there system thinks I have a 3G phone or return the Kaiser since I won't be able to get 3G. Right now it is not an issue since I don't live in a 3G area. hhhmmmmm

There is no need for 3G SIM card. Any card should work. I'm using old AT&T Blue SIM with no problems at all.

True any card will work. Did your old phone have 3G on it already when you swapped it?

Bill will test it tommorrow when he borrows a persons sim who has 3G. If it works then they are correct.
You got a pretty good load of BS from the AT&T guy. All you need is a 3G capable phone and the right provisioning to get access to the 3G network. Signing up for a MediaNet, MediaMax, or PDA plan should so it. YOu should NEVER give them your IMEI # unless it is an AT&T phone. Cuz at that point, if there are any issues that require deviations from their "scripted" support, they will say that's the issue. Unless you happen to get lucky and get a real technical support rep.
Just tell them you got an aftermarket unlocked Blackjack and you want the 19.99 MediaMax 200 plan. If they ask for an IMEI number, tell them that shouldn't matter. You can then make any changes to your plan online if you'd like. And that should get you access to the 3G network.
Thats the problem. Talked to several CSR and they won't change the provisions becauses we did give them our IMEI numbers already. They got us there but there are workarounds and lesson learned.

Not so -- my last two phones (Kaiser & Wizard) have been unlocked & not registered with AT&T, and I get 3G HSDPA. However, I don't have (and never have had) a data plan -- I pay $0.01 per KB for data a la carte.
I have a suggestion based on what i'm facing: try disabling the HSDPA in settings and reboot (it will ask you to reboot anyway) then see if you have 3G.

That is total BS sounds to me you dont have the right settings on your phone. Did you use the Network wizard to set things up for you? that might be the problem if you did. I have AT-T and a brand new Kaiser direct from HTC and have no no no issues what so ever with 3G or HSDPA i also think i am getting a little a HSUPA here and there
FYI and a request for some assistance
I use quite few different phones and one day my account froze on me. I had been using a palm treo 650 because my kaiser was out of battery.
when i reinserted the sim into my kaiser days later phone worked but no data no sms worked again. in any att phone all shapes and sizes. I thought it was from the treo because i used the data no problem.
its a company acccount need password to talk to csr at att.
after researching and seeing this thread I retracted my steps
the only other thing i have done is reported an imei on my account for a tilt i needed to unlock for a friend before there was an unlocker.
I believe the imei on file controls my provisions.
Provisions
the only solution to no data on phone that was working is provisioning a pit stop to a service center.
Is it possible to create a solution or is it totally a carrier fix at this point? Is there any other way to adjust provisions with out a walk in or call?
FYI
to change a reported imei number simply call 1-(916)-843-4685 and have them update your device to what ever imei you want them to have.
Note once they update the system make all your changes for rates online the only info att has is what is provided at point of sale or givin by the client
this is just some info to add

Can't connect to internet through 3!! Help!!

Searched and searched but can't find anything about this. Due to living in an area with poor mobile reception (except orange but their data rates are extortionate) I've decided to trial some PAYG sims to see which will be usable. I am getting an excellent reception on the 3 sim but the roaming triangle appears at the top of the screen. I think it is roaming on the orange network. Thing is I've just payed £5 for the internet add on but I cant actually connect to the net!! Any page I try and load it just loads 1 byte and then stops. I've gone through the automatic setting and also tried it manually. Tried switching the phone settings to WCDMA but then I get nothing at all!!
Can anybody please help before I go INSANE!!!!
I use Orange and pay £5 for unlimited 1900-07:00 & weekends and then a maximum of £1.50 per day upto 25mb downloaded.
Is that what they told you about charges?
A further update on this issue. Having read a thread on the 4win forum I decided that it may be a dodgy sim card as i had purchased it off ebay. So today I toddled off to the nearest 3 shop for a new sim card. Whilst in there I decided to show the guy (who had never even seen or heard of the kaiser) the problem I was having. Would you believe it, it worked spot on, presumably because the shop was located in an area recieving a 3 3g signal. Thus it must indicate that you can only get on the internet in 3 service areas and not whilst roaming on other networks. Can anyone confirm if this is actually the case?
nope, I use a PAYG sim and it works roaming or not, use it for direct push and nmotes and all works fine. Using the £5 internet bolton, and faked the kaiser as a Nokia N95
Flubster
On Three, when my TYTN II flips over to GPRS or a little triangle (EDGE?) (and presumably at that point I'm roaming on orange at that point), I find I can't get anything downloaded either.
I wonder if there is something in Three phones that allow them to work on roaming?
The little triangle indicates that the phone is roaming on another network. I believe it's Orange at the moment. It used to be O2 and by 2009 it will be T moblie. I've still had no joy rectifying it anyway (although I am trying!!)
Latest update:
Emailed 3 customer service last night and spoke with them today. The lady told me that there was no way I would ever be able to access the internet on a none 3 branded phone (so God only knows why they sold me the £5 internet option). I explained that I didn't need a free phone or anything off them just a sim only contract that would enable me to access the internet. Having been told that this was absolutely not possible (believe me I tried) I had no alternative but to request a PAC code. I still refuse to believe, however that 3 would turn a perfectly good potential customer away just because he didn't want one of their phones?! It just doesn't make any sense!!! Barring any further developments (hopefully someone on here knows something I don't) I will have to turn to the dark side and go to Orange (
Deleted Deleted
I have an unlocked kaiser. i have a three Payg sim and a contract orange sim.
3sim works fine on net and mail for 3network, on roaming gprs net doesnt work but mail does with same connection.
Orange sim works fine for gprs on both net and mail.

Turbo Sim success unlock D3 Subsidy-locked

Hello!
Well, after so may time since I bought my phone I finally today was able to make my D3 to make/receive calls and sms.
So I would like to share my experience so may be helpfull to another friend around here, since by today, is the first time that could be confirmed that a subsidy+locked D3 is unlocked by a Turbo sim (the info around is about D2G that was the info tha I was following in order to try another turbosim after my previous failed attemp with other turbosim version), and my phone is in original Veri$*n version 590 rom.
So, in order to be detailed and helpfull:
My D3, was and until today, Subsidy+Locked after try 2 codes that was sold to me form an internet code seller well recognized and after weeks of try the other codes providers over the net, ALL of them have the same codes. If this is You case, You like me are in bad luck and by now seems that Turbosim is the only hope.
Seems that if the D3 was activated over Veri$*n network, None of this codes works because appears that Veri$*n change the internal code OTA at the time of first activation, so if You want to have a real unlocked D3, buy for one that NEVER will be activated so very probably you could unlock it by internet sellers codes or buy for a D3 that have been really UNLOCKED with a proper code of Veri$*n.
The version of turbosim that I already bought was exactly this (Ebay # Item number: 270686865877):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/27068686587...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_4125wt_1398
and I prepare my phone with this steps in order to get it working:
1) Made a factory reset form settings
2) I choose to root my phone and then made the fix for the Wrong UMTS signal indication
follow the info on this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326310
is Yellow transparent very thin and flexible and the package is ORANGE with a YELLOW big spot in front with the title: "Sim Unlock Card SmartPhone" (beware of the version because my previous turbosim that failed have the same title BUT was BLACK color with a Round Rubber cover over the chip and came in a BLACK package with the same title in RED characters and this BLACK turbosim DIDNT WORKS!), only the Yellow works.
By now I found in the seller store that It now have a new version that seems the same color but said 2011 version (the one that Iordered was 2010 version, but I almost sure that I received the 2011 version, but since I not sure I ordered both versions as spares, since during my tests I was almost sure that I damage my turbosim, but lucky was not), The Yellow turbosim package states that is compatible with 1500 diferent phone models, and that have capabilities to allow 3g data and fix to won't be out of signal when travel from one cell tower to another, so said that have 99% signal back automatically.... well, I will see in the followinbg days...
3) Then I put my local sim WITHOUT turbosim, and boot the phone (if your phone locks on android screen, bypass it by touch the 4 corners of the black background,so in the below corners of screen, just above the "buttons")
4) Go to wireless networks and set the phone for GSM/UMTS service, automatic and make an apn with the name only (in the original Veri$*n you will be not able to change mcc and mnc numbers since if You change when You save the phone delete the apn instead of save it)
5) Turn off, then remove sim and carefully put the turbosim in place and the slide the local sim over and in position (the gold rivets goes UP making contact with local sim contacts). I was in need of ligth bend over the steel belt of my D3 in order to allow put the Turbo sim with local sim above in position, AND in my case I slide the turbosim from botton to up and the sim in the other normal sim insert directin SINCE THE CHIP is somewhat tall for the steel slot of sim so, I prefer to do anything but force my turosim since it is fragile.
6) Turn on the phone and then the screen may change to tell your about autorize data roaming and I suggest You to allow it, in order to easy test of the turbosim connection and after 2-3minutes the network may be available.Try to make the process in a zone that You may be sure that have a good signal coverage from provider antennas.
7) The only issue by now is that since I not able to change APN mnc and mcc codes I not able to get any data connection, so I wonder if some friend could help me clarify if I flash another rom diferent from original Veri$*n, may be posible that I could change APN settings and save them to test if could be available data connection.
Please, excuse me by my long post, I hope that I dont bother, but I would like to share all the info, since I didnt like the short posts that have short partial info since makes the whole answer a ping-pong of posts.
Hope that may helps and best regards!
How do we know that this isn't some way to get people to buy your fake lock code.

well, if You may simply check on this site, you will found a lot of my previous posts about the troubles that I have with my D3, and in addition, I found ofensive Your suggestion because I never said that I sell anything, so you put conclusions over me and my post.
To friends around here, well, I continue my testing, and the happyness dont last too much... the main trouble is that the signal lost is NOT really recovered (as same in the D2G case). So,meanwhile, the phone is in coverage, at least voice and sms work fine, but as soon You move from your place and lost signal from the cell tower that You register at phone turn on, it lost signal and the only way by now is too put the sim on another phone and reboot, then move the local sim to the D3 with turbosim and turn on again, and it will be working again... BUT what a [email protected]!N in @ss!!!
Crap, of course the only real solution is have a D3 unlocked with Veri$on code in veri$on network coverage or unlock a D3 that never was activated over veri$on with internet sellers codes.
Any help will be welcome.Thanks
Best regards to all.

maybe this prog. can be helpful to change mnc and mcc, give it a try..
I have now droid 3 on the way to my country.
Seller say, that the phone was never out of box and never was activated.
So this phone is unlockable ?
The bootloader on the d3 is still locked and I'm not sure if anyone is working on unlocking it because of the bootstrap/ safestrap workarounds

This discussion is in no way related to the phone's bootloader lock but rather the phone's subsidy lock (meaning that the SIM tray is locked to Verizon's/Vodafone SIM card and will not accept any other SIM).
Back to topic, thank you so much xaser for your findings. I'm only having 2 problems right now:
1st: I can't get rid of the R in the signal bars, so the phone thinks it's roaming when it actually isn't. I made sure I wasn't paying roaming charges (you can never be sure) by calling my carrier and asking about it, but apparently it's just the phone thinking it's roaming.
2nd: When I get to choose my network operator (settings / wireless and networks / Mobile Networks / Select network ) I can only select 2G services which to me sounds like I won't get 3G at all. This isn't a major problem for me since I don't have a data plan, but it will be an issue when I decide to sell the phone.
Also, I would like to ask if anyone can confirm that the device can ONLY be unlocked when connected to Verizon's network, for I have tried with 2 different unlock codes here in Argentina but had no luck with them (making me turn to the Turbo Sim option).
I would also like to note that the SIM model that Xaser suggested didn't work for me, but instead this one did
I hope the thread revival helps people under the same circumstances.
I'd suggest finding a way to get the phone back on Verizon temporarily so that a valid unlock code can be used. This would be achievable by finding a trusted friend with an account in good standing with Verizon, a line which has been active for longer than six months, then have them put the D3 on their line and get the code. They can easily switch back to their phone after unlocking the D3. I'm not sure if Verizon will require the D3 be on the line for six months, but I'm sure some sweet talking would help. I've heard some cases where people get their phones unlocked after a month or two, just because they are nice to customer service ;-)
Now, about some other things talked about here: it depends on which frequencies or 3G bands your carrier uses if you want to get the D3 to work on 3G. I don't know the names of them, but the D3 gets AT&T's 3G bands and 2G of course, but isn't compatible with T-Mobile's. If you look those up and compare them to your carrier's bands, you'll know whether you'll get 3G or not.
I'd like to share my own small note and ask a question too. My D3 is unlocked by VZW and works on T-Mobile, but it loses signal randomly (like it forgot my previous selections for preferred operator, and it always shows that operator will be found automatically, which makes it not work) and sometimes it has signal but no 3G. It could be from changing towers as mentioned above, but I'm still trying to figure out whether this problem is caused by my messing with APNdroid (which is used to turn off UMTS data connection in instances when it isn't necessary, like when connected to wifi, by changing APN settings), or if it has to do with the SIM moving or being bumped, or if it's simply resetting after I cycle power. I'm used to turning my phone off then back on whenever it starts lagging or having other performance issues, but I'm wondering if that may be causing issues with my network connection or settings.
If anyone has more clues or ideas, thanks. I hope my perspective has helped here as well
Guys I just had a friend who for a Verizon Droid 3 from The US... It was locked but had it unlocked here in my country via some "code" he bought... saying it is working perfect now unlocked...
Does it work that way or not... cuz seems the Verizon phones have lots of issues when it comes to.unlocking...

Well I don't think I will be returning to the US any time soon, maybe around the end of next year. And the few friends I do have in the US are on Sprint so they wouldn't be able to give me a hand. I just want to know whether it is necessary to be within Verizon Network in order to have the phone code unlocked or if one can unlock it regardless of coverage overseas.
Also, regarding 3G, I hear what you are saying but my point is that since I am using a Turbo Sim to unlock my phone I am unsure whether the Turbo Sim will give me issues to get data at 3G speeds. The Droid 3 does indeed support Argentina's 3G bands (UMTS 850 and 1900).
Thank you all for your input.
TurbiSIM does no longer unlock my XT862. Used it successfully for about 3 months. It started with data communication errors for about a month.
I noticed that every time I went abroad and used the phone (even in flight mode), I had to reset it in order to unlock it with Turbosim. Now, total failure...
Later edit:
To my surprise, it works again! But with another SIM from a different service provider. The one that used to work is no longer working with TurboSIM.
Turbo sim works in my case
I had the same problem - hardlocked droid 3. I have tried all the way but there was no solution arround this. finaly turbo sim was the only way. now Phone works perfectly. no any problems at all.

[Q] Can't connect to mobile network

I bought an HTC One that was locked to Telus. I eventually SIM-unlocked it, and it worked fine on the Bell network in Canada. I travelled to the US, and it roamed find on AT&T's network. I installed cyanogenmod while I was away, and upon returning to Canada, the phone refuses to connect to the Bell network.
I can scan for mobile networks, and Bell is listed, but when I select it, I get "Your SIM card doesn't allow you to connect to this network"
The phone is also periodically popping up a "Managed Roaming" notice that says "Network with Limited Service found. Do you want to initiate a Network Search?" -- which just finds the same mobile networks that I found in manual scans. And again, trying to connect to Bell's network fails. Asking the phone to automatically choose a network also fails.
Bell reports that my SIM card is "healthy" in their systems, so they're blaming the phone. What can I do to restore mobile service? At this point, I can only make emergency calls and use wifi -- which is not really what I want from a phone.

Well, it turns out they don't tell you if the IMEI has been blacklisted until you specifically ask them about it. Looks like I bought a stolen phone - whoops. I've filed a police report, maybe I'll get my money back - but what I really want is the phone to work
Sucks. Still it for parts. Not much to do there

I originally tried to get the unlock code from Telus, which the CSR apparently thought was "fishy." (They wouldn't give it to me, and I bought one later from a third-party) So, on nothing more than a hunch, they reported the phone stolen, blacklisting it from all Canadian carriers. I'm not even a Telus customer and they still managed to **** me with a cactus because that's the kind of thing they like to do. GREAT!
In any event, we got it figured out, and I'll be back in business by tomorrow.
