I do not know much when it comes to hardware of computers but im looking at this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200543755584&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Just go to the bottom of the page and change around the hardware then click built my configuration.
Thanks
Also i will not be doing much gaming but i would like atleast a quadcore 3.0ghz processor and i already have a decent graphics card so i will not need that. Im trying to spend around 500-550$ if possible
You do realize you need an OS, right?
And please, if you want to put everything together yourself then just go to a computer shop, tell them what you want and they'll do it. I've seen many people come with fried boards come to the shop I work at because they tried to do it themselves.

i added a video card for ya if u wanna play games ...
cheaper housing [same power supply tho]
smaller hdd [if u cant fit on 500 , u wont fit on 1000 , trust me on that , its all matter of cleaning up after urself]
newer/better mobo [direct performance boost]
stripped from dvd writer [my comp hasn't seen a dvd drive for 5 years , nor did i ever need one]
not a bad deal i got ya there if u consider i added a $140 video card , a better mobo and came out only $96 more
edit : just saw ya dont need a video card ....

this how it changes ,
half generation better cpu
two generation better mobo (nforce 6xx >nforce 8xx series)
and a nice quiet cpu fan which will make ur days pleasant

Takes a few hours to get used too, after a few weeks you will be like a pro with it. its more comfortable as you dont have to reach out with your right hand and having backspace and enter in the center is not hard to get used to. also switching between regular qwerty and this is a breeze, im on my laptop right now and typing fine

Its just sinking in for me.. im kind of bummed about it.
The measly 4GB on the diamond with NO means of expansion is not enough.

No.. I absolutely detest the iPhone.
I already have my diamond, but tonight (as I put loads of music on my device) ive been thinking about it more and more... why didnt HTC put at least 8GB in it or add a Micro SD slot.
Other than that, I absolutely adore my diamond. Its a fantastic device and a great upgrade to my HTC Touch.
The whole 'mine is bigger than yours' thing doesn't bother me.
It's a phone, not an entertainment system for me.
I always carry a usb drive and am rarely far from a real pc.
When I ordered it I hadn't noticed the lack of card slot and I've only ever had a 2gig card in my previous smartphones. Maybe I just don't understand the concern to have so much on a media player but then again I did used to buy C120 tapes for my walkman

I cant remember the exact figure but it would add several mm to the device to put in a MicroSD slot so that's the main reason they didnt. There may also be power savings and speed improvements but i beleive the size issue was the most important.

Turns into one too you try and do anything clever on it ;-)
I'm syncing my diamond to my iMac(itunes) using missing sync, so I'm not really sure whether this is possible using media player on windows, haven't been using windows for years so I have no idea as to it's playlist capabilities...
I've got two playlists that I'm syncing (everytime my diamond connects, basically every night) the first one I add music to as I please (songs I have to actually add to the playlist)... The second however consists of songs played less than three times... I have a pretty large library and my diamond pretty much always have music on it that I'm not tired of, hence I find the 4Gb quite sufficient. This is also available for videos, or video podcasts (if you use your diamond as a video player)
They'll comeout with one with more memory, until then, go to www.modmyifone.com:)

I absolutely agree. Everyone knows that the Diamond has 4Gb and is not expandable. Pretty pathetic really if they buy it and then realise they want more space.
I have stored 100+ pics, 15 hours of music and installed all programs in the internal storage - and I still have 2,4 GB free.

Not really. Its like anything else, you buy it thinking it'll be fine - its only when the space runs out that you realise you want more.
And no - dont go suggesting the iphone as an alternative, to me its a compromise. I want a kick ass Windows Mobile device. The diamond is damn near perfect apart from the storage issue. Curious HTC went this route as
1) Flash memory is very cheap. Hardly any cost difference between 4GB and 8GB
2)A Micro SD slot will not impact size that much
Do any of you think there will be any third party solutions (adaptors of some sort?)

The forum is for trying to solve a problem and sharing information.
Moaning - perhaps understandable to a certain limit.
Now, you know there is nothing you (or anyone else can do) about the 4 GB internal sotrage that you got with your phone.
If there is a new version of the diamond, with more memory or an external card slot.. someone will definitely share that info.
Unless that's what you were doing, I don't think that moaning is going to get you anywhere or achieve anything.
An exercise in futility.
If you just want to share your opinion, there are plenty of places where you can do so.
Doing it on a forum where people are looking for solutions, not exactly the best approach.
Just my view

Not really - there are workable solutions, for example someone mentioned ORB.. plus I'd like to get into dialogue about the possibility of adaptors..
I wont be dictated to about what I can or cannot talk about.
I mean a thread dedicated to wallpaper on the diamond (Which is near 5 pages long) is more redundant than this one, yet I hear no complaints about that.

for $290 thats not bad at all, seeing as when they came out they retailed for around $1200. you could potentially upgrade the memory to 4gb and then youd have quite a descent machine on your hands for the price you paid.

How do I know how many slots I have available for RAM, and what RAM I exactly need? I am kinda new to computers but I know there are different types, like there is not just 1 type of 2gb DDR2 RAM..
What you have there is a business laptop. It has an Intel integrated GM965 chipset with integrated video (it sucks but does the job. Don't expect to play Blops at full visuals). Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-6400 or DDR2 PC2-5300, max 2Gb/slot. It has 2 slots for a maximum of 4Gb
The 6910b is a stalwart laptop, able to take a good bit of abuse. Just don't expect it to be a high-end (or even mid-range) graphics lappy
Yours truly,
[HP engineer]

I want to buy either a new laptop or a new desktop for gaming. I want to run games smoothly and maybe even use it for some ps2 emulation. Could someone suggest either a laptop or desktop? I heard Alienware is expensive and over-rated. I have about $1000-$1500 to spend on a new machine. Initially I was going to get a laptop but it seems like I would be able to get a more powerful desktop for the same price or less. Please advise.
Alien ware is over rated yes, try Msi for gaming laptops, and yes of course you will be able to get a more powerful desktop than laptop for the money , eg. I spent near that, more or less on an i7 2600k 8gb ram and an Msi 560ti, if you can get a laptop with similar specs that doesn't cost over at least 2000 you have found a bargain but you won't lol
Desktop will be the best for gaming. Build it yourself for the best result. Get a big, inexpensive case for starters. Make sure it has a good airflow. Other than that, you should really look up www.techpowerup.com for the best advice on which piece of equipment to buy. It'd be good to know your budget too.
My budget is anywhere from $1000-$1500. I'm not skilled enough with computers to build one by myself though.
Hmm... I suggest that you head on to techpowerup's forums. If you are as polite as were here, I daresay that you'll get a lot of answers and even some help in selecting builds.
As for the actual building of an entire PC from scratch, it is not as hard as it is made up to be. There are a lot of guides (which I never use because I've been doing it since I was eight).

I could always help you out with that! If you'd like me to set up a newegg cart build for your price range, I'd be glad to. I'd also be able to help you out with the building process, which is quite simple really. Think of it as a giant technical lego, most things just snap together. All you need is a little common sense and technical knowledge.

Yes, i think you shoul try this. You will save some money or maybe get a better computer. Is really easy to build a pc.
Ok, I could make this go on and on and on but I'll keep it short.
I have a lenovo T410 and LOVE it. Luckily, being THE IT guy, i get pick of the crop when it comes to getting a computer. I keep it civil and dont go over 1200.
I am looking at another lenovo (dont even try to dissuade me) and cant decide between:
X1
X220
T420
T520
Ultimately, its just a size difference as these are the configurations I would go with:
http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Sho...+t520&Sku=12866514+12594117+12618756+12570377
I know the X1 has just one slot of RAM and that would hurt, and I was thinking of getting an ultrabay adapter for another 500GB 7200 RPM drive that I have laying around.... so the X1 would be just because it seems like an INCREDIBLE combination of power and portability (and while i think the "thinklight" is the bees knees, a backlit keyboard on a lenovo would rock!)
I know some models have the IPS display as an option but I'm trying to keep the $$ reasonable so that i can continue my annual upgrade
So, given that i lug my laptop around daily and toss it in and out of my bag and carry it by one hand too often for my directors comfort...
What pc do you have experience with and think would better suit a guy that supports 5 worksites and has a VERY busy lifestyle and uses the laptop for work during 9-5 and play (portal 1/2, halflife deathmatch, whatever) afterhours.
I really think i could pick any of them and be happy.... just want to be VERY happy with my decision. .... i am completely stuck at this point...
Thanks guys!
Smallest display saves money for upgrades. Smaller display means lighter and more portable for work. Haven't seen any that you want, but for IT work laptop. I'd go small and fast.
Just get the one you like the physical look of. Lappies are waaaaaay to commoditized by now.

No, yes, no ...
Desktop and Laptop thread? You can't have missed it?
I have never heard of changing a video card on laptop. It's like built in feature and look that you won't find anything on the market that fits GPU for laptops. You could of course buy a graphics card and connect it via usb but from what I remember It was very expensive and was only given support to some intel cpu's
Better luck asking here.

I've done it several times. It all depends on the laptop and wether or not you can even access the Videocard. Most high-end Asus laptops can easily be customized.
Best go to a computershop if you've no experience with it yourself, it isn't always easy.
