[Q] Wifi turns off when screen goes off how to fix it? - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i am really annoyed about my X1 because whenever i download a video from a site i leave it to download but my wifi keeps turning off when the screen turns off and my download just stops. Is there anyway to make it so wifi stays on or keep my screen permenantly on?
A question out of this topic
1. What is android and what benefits do i get from it?
2. What is 1% battery increments i don't get what it is or what it does?

Purchase program Sreen Off
Hi,
You can change in settings to display never turns off, but you battery will loose to much energy, or purchase Sreen Off program, you can find it on google or on Microsoft Marktplace.
About question 2: with this increment you can see battery change 1%, like 91%....90%

Hi, install hTorch, I have the v3.2 version and it has a button to turn off the screen.
Very useful feature, I'd like to be able to access it from outside the program, like giving some parameters to the exe. If anybody knows how to do this please can you explain?
here's a pic:

Get Advanced Config. With this software it is possible to change the settings for Wifi so the connection keeps active when the device goes to stand by.

You could never put the phone in standby on wifi on the heremes. I *****ed when I was new to hermes and was told that is to save power. I dont remember about just turning the backlight off though.
Yes its a really ***** PROBLEM!!!!
I am pissed off... you cant image .....
Other PPC can do this.....
- Disable autoPower off in POWER OPTIONS.
- Toggle SCreen
And wifi keeps conected and ON but with TYTN2 i am not ABLE TO THIS !!!!!!

sucks, but I am not surprised
I had the same problem when streaming. When I lock the screen with the power button on my treo I'd lose the stream. But this doesnt happen if I use scrsaver.exe from PHM. I posted it here in post 2 http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=139884 just change the extension to exe of course and run the exe on the ppc
It turns the screen off and locks the buttons. On the treo you would turn the screen back on with the center button on the 5way. Hope this works for you. Its been a jewel for me.
its to save power. using wifi uses SO much power and its impractical. I have yet to see a PPC that does NOT do this. Some "seem" to not do it but i assume that it just "keeps the connection active" and when it does re-connect back up it continues to send data, but gives a false sense of it being on (correct me if i'm wrong)
simple soloution: Connect the AC adapter to your TytnII and the screen backlight may turn off but the device will remain on (you can still see the screen) and thus keeping your connection. Not the ideal, but a 4hrs battery life with wifi on? not my idea of a good idea
Edit thingy:
Btw its not a huge bug .. very misleading topic title!!!!

From what I read it IS a huge bug, and.... you're wrong
Just kidding, but WiFi is supposed to suspend when device is put in suspend mode, sure. But of course not when just the screen is turned off. And every ppc should act that way..

I believe you can toggle this behavior with START/SETTINGS/CONNECTIONS/Wireless LAN/Power Mode and slide towards "Best Performance".
I noticed this on my Sprint Mogul while I had it. Funny thing was after a clean phone boot it wouldnt always behave according to where the slider is (even tho set at best bat life it would still stay on sometimes when screen timeout, I don't believe the kaiser/tilt does this), but going into the settings and moving this slider would make it behave accordingly.
Good luck.
I'm seeing the same thing. On my TyTN, I used to use MortSaver to turn off the screen but leave the device and WiFi running. Since I switched to a TyTN II, WiFi turns off when I start MortSaver.
Cranking up the WiFi power options to max performance does not seem to help.
This is not about standby mode - we all know WiFi turns off there (even if we'd prefer that be an option too, of course).
If there a fix for this issue?
I think something could be made via reg editing, but since I don't own a kaiser...

Any tips where to start looking?
yep, in the registry
just kidding, check that key, lot of parameters to play with.. Their names sound just like what you're looking for :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\TNETWLN1\Parms
note that TNETWLN1 is the name of the WiFi adapter, so it may not be the same on kaiser.

The relevant key on the Kaiser would be:
HKLM\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms
(somehow it scares me that I know that from the top of my head )
I was sure TCPMP screen off option was working ( keeping WiFi alive )... after awhile ... it failed too.
sorry

Sadly doesnt work for me. At least the green LED blinks for a while in standby mode but the device becomes pretty warm and the Wlan says disconnected if i turn on the device again.

TyTN II waking randomly

Hey everyone
Has anyone else noticed that their TyTN II wakes from standby when switching between GPRS and 3G. At least I think this is why mine appears to wake up randomly! It will be sat on my desk in standby mode and then the screen will switch on and the signal strength bars will move.
I've checked to make sure nothing is running in the background and performed a soft reboot.
Any ideas?
Hi
The Kaiser does turn on at least once every hour (some house keeping tasks), and will turn on if the mobile signal is lost. However these on's are in unattended mode which means the device appears off to the owner so the screen will not come on.
If you have some software that likes to do work or updates the today page for example, that software may be detecting the device has turned on and in order to get your attention or just through bad programming, issues a power announcement to say turn on proper, hence the display lights up!
Regards
Phil
Thanks for the info, I'll have a look what I have on there and try and isolate what is causing the power ups.
Cheers for the help.
If you have sprite backup installed with the auto backup on low power option that causes occasional power ups to enable the power check.
I may have solved this issue. After uninstalling enAlarm the phone, no longer appears to be waking. I'm still monitoring it though
i have the same problem when im signed on to AIM. Once i sign off it stops waking up, but if its on it'll wake up every 5 minutes or so, and it is in fact annoying. Havent found out the solution for it yet so i just dont really use it that often

it's when a friend log's in or out of AIM.. it's a paint, rediculious and ATT refuses to get rid of OZ messanger and use a real one.
here's the kicker. it supposed to use TEXT , but when a friend logs in or out, the message is sent to your phone, and then DATA brings up the list..
STUPID and ignorant of ATT but,. big companies do what they want!
I have been having the same problem as well. I just installed this DeviceLock program:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305402
If you enable the "Lock on Wake" option, the device will be locked when it wakes up, so the backlight stays off and you won't call anyone by accidentally hitting buttons.
Also, I ran across this related thread you might want to check out (basically talking about the same thing, but for the Tilt):

Searching for an application that keeps the light on

Hi guys,
does anybody know an application for the Diamond, that keeps the light on for certain programms? I´ve got the prob, that I´m using many Nav-Software on my Diamond. But the only programm that can keep the light on and prevent the Diamond getting into "sleep-mode" ist TomTom.
Now I´m searching for a programm, where you can for example click checkoboxes for certain installed programms where you don´t won´t that the light goes of.
It would be fantastic if there is anything like this software for my diamond.
To understand my probs. I´m using my Diamond for a flight navigation software an for me it is a huge problem when the light goes of during a traffic pattern before the landing
Thanks

Go to Settings => Power.
There you'll find Yoda... err sorry, screen power off settings. Disable every power saving measure you find there and your screen will stay on.
Yes I know.
But to disable power saving does not solve my problem. Because then the phone stays on. For ever. And when I quit my application, the light stays on.
So I´m searching for a program that keeps the light on during an application. And when I quit the application it should go in "normal" power saving mode.
I´ve tested a little bit the last days but when I leave my phone in the kitchen and had the energy saving off, the phone stays on after a missed call and so the battery is empty on that evening.
So not a good idea.
Any others?

App to log devices activities?

Hi, my phones screen keeps turning on in the middles of the night and just stays on as it is in the charger.
I dont want to change the settings, but I want to know what is causing my screen to turn on.
Is there some sort of logger that I can look at later the next day and see what activated my phone out of sleep mode?
Thanks
my diamond comes on every night at midnight. Been wondering the same
my vogue and diamond do the same
Wasnt this a problem touchflo (tf3d) ? Try doing a search... someone else has this problem before, for sure.
i think its start>settings>today>items tab > uncheck today timeout

[Q] Nook screen turns off when charging

My rooted nook screen keeps turning off while charging, and I can't find the setting to disable it. I have it configured so wi-fi turns on and off with the screen, and sometimes I'd like wifi on in the background to download or do other things. The only way I can do that now is to remember to keep touching the screen every few minutes.
Any help?
I use a widget from the market called Screen ON widget. Just have to tap it to keep screen on. Works great.
Sent from my hacked nook color.
There's an app called 'Setting Profiles' which works well for this situation. The free version allows just one rule which should be fine if this is all you need it for.
Thanks for the response guys. I actually do use Setting profiles, which is what I use to turn the wifi on and off with the screen. I just haven't figured out how to configure it to keep the screen on.
I searched for 'Screen on widget', but I got 3000 hits, and couldn't find it.
