[Q] Camera drivers in userspace ? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Hello,
I am considering to buy a Motorola Defy and would love to know what the chances are that the HD 720p Video recording capabaility can be ported from the Milestone 2 to the Defy.
My understanding is that the Defy has the same chipset OMAP 3430 as the Milestone 2 and therefore should be able to do 720p.
However the kernel is signed and cannot be changed. Therefore my question is: Is the 720p capability implemented in the kernel driver of the camera or in some userspace drivers ?
Thanks for clarifying.
Cheers
Geejay

about the qualcomm 7200 chipset (noob asking a non-noob question)

first pls check this site out
it has the specifications of the chipset that the kaiser is using
http://www.cdmatech.com/products/msm7200_chipset_solution.jsp
my question is
duz it mean that, our kaiser has the potential to do whatever it says there on the specs?
like the 6.0MP camera and the 30FPS video?
gurus, pls enlighten me
Yeah, probably it can do all those things.. but first we need to wait for those guys at HTC figure out how to use them.
Meanwhile please sign the petition and do whatever you can to get those guys to fix this

no it doesnt mean we can magically have a 6.0 MP camera or 30 fps video, but the playback of video could be greatly improved by getting decent 3d acceleration drivers, which HTC has yet to provide.

Oh, I thought he meant 30 fps video playback, not recording.. my mistake sorry anyway, wouldn't harm to get everyone's attention to the acceleration drivers right?
It does mean the chip supports reading image data from a 6MP sensor. It is up to the manufacturer as to what size camera sensor they actually include (in this case 3.1MP). So, no magic software update to 6MP. As for 30fps video recording, if you are talented enough programmer, you might be able to figure out how to write an app to do it. The 30fps simply refers to how often the processor can get data from the image sensor. How many frames a second you can actually record, and at what resolution, is limited by programming skills and the relatively low performance of an ARM processor.
Why is'nt 30fps video recording possible? The only limitation is hardware related, which our hardware supports. The fps isnot related to the cam unit as far as I know. Previously on my ROKR E6 and my W800 I've increased the ps from 7 to about 20. I apologise if I am wrong, this is my first week with the Kaiser and still learning , first week with any windows based phone and I'm loving it

[Q]I9000 camera 1080p recording

Hi
Read that the i9000 hardware can encode/decode 1080p video.
and that the camera is capable of this.
is there a camera apk that has this?
what is involved in making one?
or is this just impossible to accomplish?
i dont think the phone can handle filming at 1080p in my opinion. 720p is awesome anyway even more so on a phone...
One thing i do know is that i can stream HD (1080p) movies from my pc to my phone and that plays perfectly..

Yea, heard that too - Galaxy Tab with the same hardware can handle it, but some kernel drivers of Galaxy S doesn't support it... Thanks to Samsung
is there a dev around that could say what kind of drivers are needed in the kernal?
maybe we could do something when the S2 comes out.
would a nice addition...

with android 2.3 and 2.4 it can handle it.
What's the point on that;It would capture 1080p in too low frame rate.

Like marcodoncarlos stated, the tab can handle it with the same hardware (30fps I think) so our phones would be able to handle it just fine if given the proper software.
mem write speed will creat problems

Who wants 720p video recording aka hd recording on droid 1

just asking a question

That is impossible, as the version of DSP in Milestone/Droid OMAP chip only support encoding/decoding up to 720x480 (some ppl say it is possible to squeeze a little bit more resolution, but no more than 800 and so colums and max 480 lines), and even a highly overclocked ARM CPU is not capable of encoding 720p video in real time.
Im guessin youd have to use one of those special lens add ons hes probably talkin bout

[Q] How to restore 24fps camera to custom mods?

After searching I could not find an answer except some threads about making the 2x 30fps.
So I just got the 2x, Rooted,
Installed temasek's KANG BUILD P204-36
Then ironkrnl
everything went fine
The camera has a few modes but they are all 30fps or 15fps. Is this a property of the Rom or Kernal? Or will installing a new camera app resolve this?
I need native 24fps for my workflow, not 30fps converted to 24fps, it was a selling point for me.
I could probably figure out how to assemble a new kang build I just need a few tips on which drivers would be needed for 24fps if it is the rom. Or can I just push the new old driver straight to my phone?
Hi,
Because of Nvidia drivers being closed sourced, CM develepors are not able to make the CM camera behaviour as how the stock camera behaves.
If you want 24fps, use stock rom with stock camera app. Even with that the 720p is at 30fps. Only 1080p is 24fps.
I heard Nvidia is releasing its drivers source codes soon.. but from what I heard, it's for ICS.
Good luck.
Cheers.
Optimus 2x (P990)
GR5 + RC11-R + PPv10
OK so back to a stock rom then until ICS gets here, thanks for the reply
After you gave me the right terms i found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159404 but it doesnt look like they got anywhere
what i hate about cm7's video camera is the much lowered fps during low light.. IT SUX!

Porting Adreno 200 Libs from Sony Xperia tipo

Maybe it is possible to port the Adreno Libs from the Tipo, which will be released in the third quarter 2012 (Tommorow the third quarter begins )
with Android 4. This would probably give us HW Video encoding / decoding. So my question:
Is it possible?

It may be possible.......let's wish for the best
Sent from my X8 using Tapatalk 2
We need OpenMax Codecs (sorry if wrong spelling) for hw encoding, not Adreno libs
