Somewhere in inetrnet some say that there is the hardware for FM radio and requires only an application to make it work? Fact or fantasy?

The Snapdragon chip has FM in it.
But the Liquid doesn't have FM, dunno if it's disabled or took out (hardware)
So what I read is not a fantasy, I hope someone develops a utility that allows us to use it!
I think its the bluetooth chip that have FM receiver, not the CPU.
Check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=608340
If Bluetooth chip is same then Liquid should have radio and since F1 has radio and F1 and Liquid hardware are pretty much the same, I think there is big possibility Liquid to have radio, which is disabled.
Also I have seen in a dump from HTC Espresso a radio application.
Look at this:
http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon-and-Software-Solutions/BCM4325
I wonder then why FM radio is disabled and the bluetooth is 2.0 instead of 2.1??

bluetooth might be because android just started supporting bt 2.1 in eclair (who knows if updating the radio will make it work in 2.1 instead of 2.0)... fm radio who knows...

It occurs to me that we are experiencing growth Andorid day to day, who knows if in a not too distant future we will also see an application that runs the FM receiver
Exactly, giving the limited resources Acer has to making Android phones (probably just ramping up), they decided to skip on developing software drivers for the FM radio since they figured most people will use 3G streaming. but I like FM radio since it uses way less power and for those who don't have a data plan to burn through. Hopefully someone is able to write software drivers for the FM radio.
Some notes on this subject:
1.Acer has little to nothing to do to get the FM working, it's broadcom who makes the bluetooth (and thus FM) driver. What Acer has to do is only a GUI, which isn't hard to do
2.Nexus One has the same chip (ok, not the same, but they share the same driver), and doesn't have FM enabled either, that makes me think their might be some problem somewhere. (but the previous posts stating that using FM on a recent smartphone is unusual seems like a good guess.)
3.I've seen linux FM drivers for BCM4325, in Samsung Galaxy ROM (It's the btld daemon)
The thing is that this driver is fully closed source and doesn't use the bluez stack (linux bluetooth stuff), that's perhaps the reason why Acer and Google decided not to use it.
Anyway these chips are used by N1, Samsung Galaxy (I7500), iPhone 3GS, HTC HD2, HTC Touch Pro2, well, all brand new shiny phones, so it's likely someone of these developers will get something at some point
Does have milestone same chip?
Any news on radio fm recevier on liquid??

No, milestone have TI wl1271, we have Broadcom bcm4325
an fm radio would rock my world...any news
do you say FM radio!!!!!
If yes, is it possible somehow to enable it....because I realize games,mp3 and chatting doesn't mean entertainment for me on the road.....
I've heard bradcomm released data sheets for their liquid bluetooth chip...
any news on this topic, or fm is just too simple ?
and what about terrestrial digital radio (sorry, french..) ?
can it be supported or received at all by our phones ?
may be it need new hardware ?
well, i'm glad to wake up this thread, as i've got some good news
i'm not able to use it myself, so i'll wait for others or the release of the thing in question.
No more waiting, here it is : fm is coming to our liquids

Looking for an application that transmits from phone to fm radio.
I don't believethe phone has an FM transmitter, even if you did find an app for it, it wouldn't work without one.
For my FM needs, I acquired an FM transmitter that plugs into the headphone jack.
Do you mean have your phone play fm radio? If so try cherry rplayer.

people have asked about FM support (either receiving or transmitting) but it's a null point.
The eris has absolutely no way of communicating over FM signals.
well, not including external addons of course.

if rooted, every phone can have fm support through the Bluetooth. but receiving only atm
Hello
i've read that MIUI was able to bring FM radio onto Nexus. Is this possible also on MIlestone? Or this will never happen because there isnt teh appropriate hardware on it?
Thanks
I've searched repeatedly this sybject.Milestone has a chip with bluetooth fm radio and wi fi in it.But as far as i know milestone lacks the fm antena.
But the headphones can be used as fm antenna right?
I believe you could get it to work if you solder the traces from the wireless chip to the headphone antenna. It works on the Droid because they are already present, but the milestone is missing the required circuitry.

Not possible.
The Milestone is missing some key components.
FM Radio development is missing! that's a killer feature, i use it every day in wm
second that!
For me, personally ... after I got new toy, my Xperia will be just an FM radio .. an expensive FM radio ..;-)
I do not need Camera or GPS because my Xperia will be staying put on the table to listen to radio and receiving messages from Skype messenger (always connected to WIFI).
But I think someone can get other HTC FM radio Android application and use it in Xperia .. please someone get that for Xperia, thanks.

yea, in italy free wifi wasn't legal until 2011, wifi and 3g coverage is really poor, 3g dataplan are very expensive and not for rechargeable SIM (in italy we don't use subscriptions)
FM radio, is free, and works everywhere!
I think that FM APIs are still unavailable to 3rd party developers.
I dont know how is this dont for xperia but this is the way on htc desire... :
Click / tap on the arrow to the left of the phone on the main screen and you will get a list of applications.
You have the FM Radio icon in row 4. Tap on it and listen to radio. Do not forget first to plug some headphones (any they do not have to be original) .
Maybe there's another phone that uses the same FM chip and for which there's working FM radio app?
I agree - FM radio support is essential. Without it users who would like to listen to the FM radio still will be forced to switch to WinMo.
Not everyone has Wi-Fi access to use TuneIn Radio and not every FM station has streaming broadcasts.
Motorola CLIQ XT is Android smartphone which has FM radio and uses MSM7201. Maybe someone could port it's FM radio app to X1?
i tryed to port libs and FM Radio apk, but it doesn't work , i tryed many other apsk, but still no luck
Just keep trying, please. There must be a way to make the radio work.
Download applanet that have fm radio apps.

hey guys,
someone got fm radio working already?
I tried applanet, but i get connections error.
I also got a fm radio app, but it doesnt work for me. it says "FM Radio is being launched, please wait..." forever, and nothing else happens.
any help?
FM Radio driver is not implemented on the kernel, i hope alex (sp3dev) will work on it
does mi 410 has a fm transmitter .... as i cannot find abouts it chip ....... also is their any software for it .. i couldnot find any soft in the market

He mean FM radio transmitter, not receiver. Which you can transmit your music being played trough FM radio transmitter and received by any other device with FM radio receiver (usually using FM radio in the car).
actually fm transmitter & receiver are on same chip nothing work as a single component..
the thing is that we don't have fm transmission app.
i would search for a third party one & let you guys know if a found one..

is it? that would be very nice if we get a third party application
Its not possible by an app. Coz. Its not coded into android system libraries & not possible to design a specific for different model as they have different antennas of soc chip

Are you sure that we have FM transceiver in our device? And in the same chip? It's great if we have it, since their technology is quite big different, but very possible to integrated in one chip.
I interested, may be you already knew what chip is it (chip type)? Maybe I can use it in my hardware project. Thanks.
My Spirit FM app is reported to be at least partly working on X6 u9000 now
See this for some details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19588094&postcount=1648
Latest test package is here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/5381ub38p0a1uym/Spirit_FM_Radio_v111122.apk .
I don't think I can even get one of these phones here in Canada. Maybe I
should ask Huawei to send me one...
--------------
I think the FM is in the main Qualcomm SOC (chip). It's almost impossible to find any information on this chip, except for the code in the Qualcomm Code Aurora FM app.
That code DOES support transmit, but I have no idea if the X6 hardware can also handle transmit.
Among the many, many hundreds (or thousands?) of Android phones out there, only a few support FM transmit in the hardware. AFAIK this is only a few made by Sharp for Japan domestic use.
So I'm EXTREMELY pessimistic that this phone could support FM transmit. I think it makes FCC etc certification more expensive and it takes longer. But who knows...
AFAICT only this phone and the X5 use this Qualcomm Tavarua FM.
@mike
i just downloaded ur sprit fm radio .... can u tell me how to config it ¿
