I personally use XWJPA
It's compatible with many mods at present and stuff seems to be really fast.

Hey guys...
what is the last OFFICIAL firmware from samsung?
i'm exausted from flashing roms....i want one stable and OFFICIAL....
i tryed the JM8 and i found a funny bug: sometimes i see notification of download fail.......with random applications.....that i didnt download before..... on every reboot a lot of new applications from all the world fail to download on my sgs -.-' (yes i did a data wipe factory reset)
i tryed the JPH and it's good...but i noticed, after had installed all the apps and my stuff, the wifi doesnt sleep when screen is of....so i try the Ryanza trick editing a db file..... (i did it before so i did it in the right way..) and after that my sgs is stuck at the booting with the S ..............so i need a wipe data..but i'm boreeed....
what rom can u suggest to me? any official good rom?

apparently they released the JH2 again but including a SPL fix, so people already on JH2 will need to flash back to JG8 or something, then flash forward to JH2 again to get the new SPL fix

I'm from Australia and my official Rom is DTJG4. This is the unbranded Rom as compared with the Optus version of the i9000.
from Italy, last official fw found in a galaxy i9000 bought by me last week is JM3. It's pretty solid with minimal lag. Gps is not good as it is in JM5 and over, though

If I remember correctly This bug is not because of the JM8 as I remember other people having it after they came from nexus phone 2.2 froyo to samsung 2.1 eclair roms you could be having a similar problem were you using Froyo rom before you flashed back to Eclair.

Best modem for Spain js8

Hi guys I can't really seem to decide about what modem to use here someone recommended the bujp5 but I have really bad signal on wifi which I use the most. Thoughts?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Jpy,jv1 or jq1. I'm now on jq1 and evrything running ok( batt life, signal, wifi). Try one of them or go to htcmania galaxy s section and you'll find a threat about that
any updates about which one is the best modem for spain right now?

[Q] I9000XXJP0 phone needs I9000XXJP0 firmware?

I have a UK T-Mobile unlocked unbranded Galaxy S (Froyo) which reports the following details:
PDA: I90000XXJPO
PHONE/MODEM: I90000XXJPP
CSC: I90000OXAJPO (KOR)
Does this mean that I need to find/use a "I9000XXJP0 version" gingerbread ROM file in order to flash gingerbread? Or could I flash some other Europe version e.g. I9000XWJVB gingerbread ROM?
I was surprised that this question is not covered in the various gingerbread flashing threads that I have read. No doubt I have missed something that will be staring me in the face once someone points it out..
Anyway, thanks in advance for any advice.
If you don't want to wait for the official update for your phone you can absolutely flash any of the gingerbread roms on this website. Just be sure to read the instructions carefully.
Btw, the gingerbread rom for your phone won't be JP0, that is a froyo rom. They change with every update.

You can flash any firmware buddy no problems, it doesn't have to be country specific. However flashing a country specific modem will most likely have an effect on signal, call.quality etc. Check out doc's thread as I think there is a good guide there.

Thanks guys. Erm so, if you were me, what do you think my best bet is? I'm thinking of flashing what I have found as being the latest offical build of 2.3.3 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011901
Modem on that is XX same as my current firmware. Do I need to care about the CSC or anything else? (FYI I've updated my original post above to give the full CSC)
Cook up a rom in doc's kitchen. You can have a very good stock rom or a really good custom one.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Wow, romkitchen.org looks very interesting. However, it says "Install from a 2.3 ROM" so I guess I would need to upgrade to 2.3 before being able to use it, which is a bit strange as upgrading to 2.3 is all I'm trying to do anyway. And it says it beta, so I think I'm better of using the ROM in my post above?
Yes, you have to flash a stock 2.3 rom first to get the bootloader update. They are all beta version of gingerbread. Even the ones that got pushed out recently aren't as stable as the 2.2.1 roms.
When I go to 2.3 it will be from the kitchen for sure.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
OK. Well, this story has a happy ending. I've upgraded to 2.3.3 (XEE version) using a guide that someone in the romkitchen irc channel linked me to.
hxxps://docs.google.com/document/d/1KePMB1QUUb_fMhY-RbX_vZEMJGTzpKLZNp6cZ2uOGe8/edit?hl=en&pli=1&authkey=CPPth-IF#
As it says in the guide, all I needed to do afterwards was reselect my provider via the APN settings (easy peasy, just selected "T Mobile" from a short list of UK providers).
Cheers for this post to all who replied - just got a Galaxy S too and wasn't sure if there were any caveats about flashing to a ROM with a different ID than your current one aside from normal GSM radio band for picking america vs rest of world etc.

Weird Firmware update?

Hi guys put my phone on kies today and a new firmware version is ready to download came up..
i thought yes i have somehow got gingerbread..
when it completed it says froyo 2.2.1 firmware version what the hell is this??
My phone is in the UK on Three network i900nejs2
there are many versions of 2.2.1 maybe you just got a newer version.
there is a way to spoof kies into making you get the very latest release. or you could just flash gingerbread yourself through Odin.
or try one of the many many custom GB ROMs
how do i spoof?
and does it matter that my phone is network locked to three?
can i debrand it or watever?
Simple answer its 3 Uk latest update to 2.2 .1 comes after Froyo 2.2 .
Some put it out others have been very late .
jje
We will be seeing parallel versions of 2.2.1 and 2.3 for quite a while....get used to it. Not all carriers will be so anxious to send out gb to the masses, and many are still on 2.2.
Remember we may be champing at the bit for gingerbread, but likely the reaction of John and Judy Averageuser will be "Dammit....ANOTHER update!!!???"

ICS 4.0.4

Guys I'm going to update my note with ICS 4.0.4
As at now there are two version issued by Samsung. which are XXLRG and DXLR2.
I'm bit confused which one shout be the best.. (I'm not sure is there any differs..
Please give some ideas..
Updating with stock 4.0.4 the difference will usually be the stuff like modems, kernels etc with the rest almost same. Just change the csc based on your location to use kies for further updates(just in case).
Does the new 4.0.4 updated still having the EMMC brick bug ?

Your answer is in this post by programmatix:
"If you are from South East Asia, choose DXLR2, else choose XXLRG. DXLR2 contains keyboards (Swype and Samsung Keyboard) that support languages like Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia and etc.
The cons of choosing DXLR2 are as follow:Contains a lot of junk apps in System\App. However, they won't be installed if the CSC you've choosen doesn't include them.Themes found in XDA might not work and cause boot loop because most themes are made for the "XX" region.
The pros of choosing DXLR2 are:Contains the South East Asia languages. Can be used for warranty claim purposes (for South East Asia users)."
