Is this developement related or should this be in the QA section? I do think it belongs in the QA section. Next time post in the correct section or post will get reported as spam lol
1. Search dude. This is one of the most obvious questions I've ever seen asked here.
2. Read around the forums before posting, that goes hand-in-hand with searching...
3. Post in the right friggin' section. You have a [Q] in your tread title which means it's a question, which is fine, but its not a "Captivate Android Development" question! It belongs in the Question and Answer section. (which is amazingly obvious, it's not like they hide it from you around here)
4. The answer to your question is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 which you didn't even need to search to find, its on the first page of the Development section which I know you looked in because you posted here.
*sigh*
The kid has two posts total. He is obviously new to the forums. So stop just repeating what everyone says. He doesn't need four people to tell him its a question and should be in the Q&A section. Don't act like its outrageous for a beginner to do something like ask a question in the development section, LIKE OMFG JESUS!! Sick of the clutter from all the questions yea, but also sick of reading all the bash posts towards people that are fresh to the forums. You were once a noob too!

I have to agree with this 100%. When I first started I didn't even realize I could search the forums or threads. Instead of someone pointing out to me there was search and explain how it works I was unbelievably verbally beaten to a bloody pulp about what an idiot I was. Even today I was taken to task for a post that cites a measure of rom's performance instead of the accepted evaluations we see day in and day out-fantastic, great, best, unbelievably fast. To me the true evaluation of a rom has to be functionality and some measure. If you do not think Quadrant scores, net speed tests and Lin pack scores measure performance tell me what does. I understand e mail works, videos play, I can make phone calls etc. That tells me how the rom functions. How do you measure a rom's performance other than to say fantastic, great, good etc.? Tell me.
All the "this is in the wrong forum, dude" posts are not about development either, so you're all off topic.
Spend less time bashing, and more time helping the new forum members.
The internet doesn't need more assholes, just more manners and good examples.

So just because someone is new to the forums we give them some leeway because they can't READ? Seriously guys it doesn't matter how new you are, if you have a question, put it in the Question and Answers thread. Almost every website has a search function, they aren't hard to find, so that excuse of "I didn't know" is pretty bogus.

How hard is it for a moderator to do their job and move the thread to Q & A or to delete it?? If they did you guys would have no argument that it "pushes" the other threads to page two. I still don't get it......Seems to me like ppl are making a big deal out of nothing.

when you are reading these forums every day trying to see whats going on in the dev world, all you see on the front page are [Q] threads, posted in the wrong section. then we have to filter out all the BS and try to find useful info, when it should be right there, easily accessible, which is the point of breaking up the sections of the forums....
it's clutter
and the mods do a good job of moving them, but the n00bs come in here and post the BS so fast, its impossible to keep up.

Installed JF 1.5 (cupcake) and myfavs are gone. Is this normal as NOT part of the build?
I would like to get back if possible.
Also in the brouser auto-rotate was possible in JF 1.42 r33 and now its not working at all and landscape is not a feature under settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
TIA
Please, please, please read and search the existing threads (in this case the JF 1.5 thread) rather than starting a new thread.
In general I favor creating a new thread when you have a specific question for anything, the exception being about about the custom ROMs. The convention here is to keep the ROM discussion to the ROM thread and it does cut down on the noise in the forums.
In this case both of your questions have been answered on JFs 1.5 thread (multiple times)

Sorry but I do have a life and I don't always the time to read thru 28 pages. If I have the time I do search and read!!! I'm sure you never started a thread with a question that has been already answered!!!
Anyways!!! Thanks for the links!!!
Might I humbly suggest if you do not have time to search and read then wait until you do have time? Everyone here (with the possible exception of myself) has lives as well and would just as soon not have to do others work for them.
It took me longer to type my post than it did to search and provide you the links. In the time it took you to do your posts you could have gotten the answers yourself.
And yes I have asked questions and had it pointed out to me that the question has been asked before and been provided a link to the answer. However I have never posted a question on a forum without first searching as thoroughly as possible. Never. Probably why I have to ask very few questions.
Regardless of how u feel I'm sure this thread will help others.
Again, Thanks for the links!!!

This is a process informally called "lurking", which could be better described as "doing your own goddamn work instead of making other people do it for you." Unfortunately with the widespread attention xda has gotten lately, the ratio of the lazy to the productive has risen significantly.
OP: You don't have a right to run JF software (i.e. it is provided as-is), nor is anyone obligated to provide you troubleshooting. If you don't have the time to read through the sticky threads, then like JP said you should find the time or learn how to better use the search function.
This thread had the opposite effect of helping me... it falsely got up my hopes that the MyFaves app is available, which I previously believed it to not be, having read the rom threads....

I as well thought someone added myfaves.apk to jf1.5 and re-signed it.
The JF cupcake 1.5 is an ADP version, which by default doesnt include myFaves. You can always wait for another update.
Hope that helps
You know what's even more annoying than someone not searching? ...
People who act like forum police/moderators and jump on the posters back with rude comments and a holier than thou attitude.
Instead of writing paragraphs about how YOU would post- maybe you should either not write anything at all, or, gasp, be curteous and friendly- help someone out, then kindly point out the search function if necessary.
What a concept.
Yeah, some of these threads get up to 200+ pages, with thousands of posts along with it, even a search will bring up a lot of posts. Not all of us have the time (as we work, or go to school, or have lives outside of the internet) to sit down and read through all of them. So it would be easier to answer the OP's question, and just end it there, then to tell him to search and complain like your on hormone pills, haha
But back to the OP question, any T-mobile apps will not be present in an ADP build. We just have to wait until someone gets a hold of the T-mobile build. So until then, just flash back to RC33 if you need myfaves.
You can auto rotate the browser (although other apps will use this function as well) by going to:
SETTINGS > SOUND & DISPLAY
then under "Display settings" make sure "Orientation" is checked, then your browser will rotate.

I just answered the OP's question, so the thread should have no further discussion unless he has more questions. All questions can not be answered with the information found in the sticky threads, so there are people like me, and many other people in these forums who are more than willing to help out another person trying get things running smoothly. If you don't have anything positive to say to the OP and get them going in the right direction, just let other people help.

Silly of me to think that WE ARE ALL HERE to help each other instead of acting like we are the sh!t and know-it-all's!! Ever try to read 5 pages of a thread using your G1 let alone 20+
Remember where you came from and how it felt not to know things and how it felt to be overwhelmed by all this info and how to apply it. Maybe then you will NOT act like a-holes.
I vote we all complain that proprietary, crappy T-Mobile software don't exist on NON T-Mobile builds of Android. You know, the way it's been since ADP phones were released in 2008. Oh yeah, and we all need to keep acting surprised when they continually don't show up in ADP builds. I think that's best for everyone.

Sorry, you're completely right: There's no point to having stickied threads or search buttons. Everyone should just start a new thread whenever they have a question, regardless of how many times that question has already been asked. Catering to the newbies who are too lazy to use forum tools and letting them overrun the forum is the best thing for the forum. I have seen the light!
postscript: sorry for bumping this failure of a thread, but newbie spam like this is choking out the real purpose this forum and I feel like unless someone takes a stand, [email protected] is going to lose relevance (assuming it hasn't already).
I was kind of hoping this thread would just die away once it left the front page but since it is back...

We are here to help each other. The first step in that is following, or at least considering, the rules set forth on the forums. They are here to help make the forum better. The first 2 are:
1) Search first
2) Be polite
Call me a know it all if you like. It does not change the fact that I am gently (and politely) trying to get you to do what is helpful to everyone on the forums. The vast majority of users here can follow these rules, why not you? I have not called you any names nor denigrated you in any fashion. I am simply asking you to be considerate to other forum users and mindful of the rules. By posting threads like this you generate noise in the forums that makes it harder to find new/original content. This is not an end user forum but one dedicated to technical users capable of researching answers.

No need to read 20+ pages, “search this thread” works just fine on the G1. It is easier than posting as a matter of fact since you do not need to login and requires less typing.
Remeber YOU DONT HAVE TO REPLY, period!! No matter how you feel, YOU DONT HAVE TO REPLY.
In case you cant read, YOU DONT HAVE TO REPLY.
Spanish: usted no tiene que responder
German: Sie haben keine Antwort
French: vous n'avez pas de réponse
Italian: Non si hanno per rispondere
You are NOT obligated/required to reply to anyones thread.
If you want to help then do so, if you dont then dont.
Again THANKS for the links!!!
Now please be a grown up and let this die I already got my answer
While it is sometimes said in an off-putting manner, the forum rules clearly state that you are required to search for the answer to your question prior to creating a new thread. If a search does yield the answer(s) you seek, then find an existing thread related to your problem.
For example: There are several active threads related to Cupcake, so you could have posted in one of those, as opposed to creating a new thread.
Thank you for your understanding. Thread closed.
For noobs : Before posting a question, read this thread then if you're still in the dark ask here!
Please don't start a new thread unless you haven't found a satisfying answer here.
Welcome, and enjoy!

This is actually a really good idea but...
If you want to get a thread stickied (sic) then you really need to have some usefull information in the top post and reserve some below. This way you can maintain it to bring the good stuff to the top as it is added.
A 100 post long thread with maybe 5 bits of usefull information dotted through it really isn't helpfull. Forum search feature or not.
Yea...I might have left a few empty post...
I just thought that a thread like this just for questions wouldn't need that...It's not like you're gonna have all the questions on the first page or smth... It things would have gone well... it could have A LOT of questions...
Great its a sticky so lets see if this works........

Not the right criticism. It seems the point of this thread is not to be an encyclopedia of newbie answers (plenty of resources for that, especially mapledouglas' great web site), but rather a place where any newbie can ask a question that's been asked 100 times elsewhere, and find some generous soul to answer it. So newbie's shouldn't have to read through all the posts, just go to the end and ask the question that's nagging them!

most of the latest versions that are out right now are sable enough to use right now for me. Everyone so far seems like they have text problems. I get about 50 to 70% of my texts. I can text my phone using AIM on my PC and only get a few of the ones i test. Also you need to make sure you follow all the steps so you have a working version. If i were to run a Hero build right now I would run Drizzy's Elite v0.5. With 32mb swap and 40 swappiness. That build over all to me feels like the most sable and I can run with more then 5 widgets and get no lag at all. This is also the build that I have ran for more then a few days. Just wait for the Devs to put out a build based off the Hero 2.0 dump. Texting might be fixed. Until then I would tell you to use CM builds.

Questions go int the Q&A section... Does it ever stop? And please search. Android has been out for a while so it's almost guaranteed that any question you have was answered at least 15 times.
atleast someone has had the sense to reply nicely and with being a jerk, no offense there dude but you came off a big ignorant right away with a reply of " Really... Reported. "
like how rude was that, could have just said that " hey this has already been asked and posted ina thread, please close thread and ask there.. "
and said that that was against the rules and be lucky to get a warning,
instead you reply harshly... how is it you expect others to learn, if you do not give a hand once in a while, you started off in same spot at one point im sure...
we all have.. try bein a bit nicer sometime, you never know who you might piss off... might have more experience then or i combined, ... lol, never know..
but anyways, yea try searching next time original poster, makes things a bit easier when you read up once in a while... trust me i know good luck, i use stable CM 4.0.4 over any hero out there, to slow right now on a G1
Reported? Sheesh. No offense, and I fully understand that this guy is really not trying too hard, but I feel his pain. Every Hero ROM thread claims that it's rom is the best and most stable and best for everyday use and fastest and all that jazz, but a clear report synopsizing all the salient features of ALL the major builds would be incredibly useful to myself and I'm sure many others. Anyone up for the challenge? And don't refer me to the various databases which are incomplete at best. I'm really looking for a major review here. Maybe one of the review sites? Except all they seem to report on is the Market Apps and basically ignore the rooted development community.

The way I started on this forum was just search and read stickies bc I was too scared to post due to all the flaming for people who ask repetitive questions and threads in the wrong forum. I learned how to do pretty much everything I needed to learn without posting 1 comment for 6 months and only started posting to help people when they ask question in the right section or already in a thread. well i remember when i tried to flash my 8525 i was confused and didnt understand. some people mayb not fully understand things and want a real quick answer. its natural for ppl to want the easy way out. and people have different ways of learning. some ppl can read and learn, some learn visually, some learn from direct feedback.
exactly well put there thR1ll... i am very well knowledged in many diff cellphone areas, ive unlocked many personal handsets over the years, unlocked and relfashed roms or whatnot over various diff providers, and types.. eg: CDMA, GSM, TDMA... nokia's, moto's, iPhones, HTC's, and i did it all from learning, reading, asking questions where and when needed... i was never rude, never impolite, but yes sometime even asked a few dumb one's myself without looking first... lol but yea, point has been proven, to next time post in proper section of forums, and for post repliers., to look it upon yourself to be a bit nicer, as you had to once yourself ask dumb things

True but that doesn't change the fact each and every member should follow the forum's rules and guidelines despite how impatient or type of learner they are. I guarantee that if this thread was posted in Q&A you'd see a couple "use search" posts but not to the extent of possible flamage here seeing both "use search" and "post question in Q&A" lol.

well maybe so... jaaron.. but you could have gone about it in saying such instead of issuing a report so sooon, without advanced notification to the poor guy, thats all im saying, not bein a jerk, but specifying you have probably made a mistake yourself a few times getting ahead of where you were
I want to know why people are so impaitient to get a perfect hero! It takes time and still we won't have a perfect hero!
Drizzy
Isn't the actualy Hero itself semi-buggy still?

If you can't read even the title of the first three threads on this forum, you deserve to be reported... also, continually answering these questions in the wrong forum only encourages more of this kind of behavior, post in the right forum, and you probably won't get "jerk" answers... or be reported for that matter... also, the mods have requested that we stop answering these questions in the wrong forums, so really, reported...

damn you dont gotta be a douche... i didnt mean to piss anyone off. however i have asked this before in Q&A and got no answer. i just need someone experienced to give me an answer. the radio had been installed before, and i needed to flash death SPL for them. thats all......

Unfortunately, most of us don't take people posting in the wrong section the right way, and tend to be douches

Honestly, most of the time you have to wait 20 minutes till you get an answer in Q&A in my experience, just be patient and don't make un-necessary thread in a forum that's about development.
EDIT: He isn't being a douche, he's being a person who actually respects forum rules, it's like laws, but of course like in society we give you people second chances and refuse to flame too badly
leave it all blank
So I'm guessing if I don't get a response from a company I can just barge into an office and grab someone to talk to me about my problem?
Just let this thread close please.

actually i posted the question in Q&A about 2 weeks ago and it got buried inside of 20mins. and all im asking is for a simple answer, i could have had it answered by now with the amount of nonpoint comments and trolls visiting this.

did it for you
Well it's pretty much your fault, as you should have known this would've happened on ANY forum.(unless it's some Religious Forum)
But, fine I'm feeling generous today. You only need to wipe and flash the Death SPL, not the radio as that could potentially brick the phone.
so basically
1.wipe phone
2.flash death spl
3.flash rom
Have fun breaking more forum rules, sorry mods for this thread.

what kind of logic..... whatever this is just becoming troll bait.
if someone would have had the decency to answer my question to begin with and not flame all over the place like a bunch of immature morons, this would have been done already.
sorry for posting on your rag day, but just change your tampon and if you dont have the answer, dont clutter it with pointless posts....... talk about let it die, just let this get one good answer and the thing would have been deleted by now.

I only use iTampon's sorry. And the logic, since when is the internet logical?
Anyways, if you are absolutely SURE you have the radio, flash the spl.

well you could have just as easily given me the answer i needed and mods would have erased this. if i had the ability to erase it myself i would. and if people would actually answer things in the Q&A section i would have gladly posted there. but its overfilled with idiotic questions that have been in the FAQ for years now. mine however has not been stated on the forum before. as i am experienced with forums and unlike many others here i know where the SEARCH button is.
but after searching through many separate forums as well as googling it, and still not receiving an answer, i figured posting this directly to someone in the direct developing community would give me the most experienced answer.
thank you for your time, and go douche somewhere else.

This is the problem. People ask the same questions over and over and it is extremely annoying to have to sort through all of the nonsense. This is impossible to solve since most of us are selfish and want what we want. The answer to your question is in the threads about upgrading the SPL.
malaeus said:
First things first, i know this should go in Q&A, however in my experience not many devs frequent that forum. so i would pose my question into the dev forum. MODS feel free to remove this thread after i have received an appropriate answer, thank you very much.
i have read all the wonderful posts about Hard SPL and haykuro's death SPL.
i have successfully made the transition to haykuro's death SPL myself, however. a friend of mine has a G1 as well, i have rooted their phone. and put the latest cyanogen mod on it. i have NOT updated the SPL for cyanogen (because it was optional, and they didnt want a chance of brick)
NOW they want me to try out a new mod for them on their phone. this new mod requires the death SPL, however they already have the LATEST radio 26I.
am i able to simply flash the new haykuro death spl like anything else? with no issues seeing as how the phone already has the latest radio (thanks to cyanogen build)?
i cant risk bricking his phone as i have no cash to replace it.

I don't wish to offend anyone here but, as a senior member you should have guessed this thread would annoy quite a few people. The fact that you're aware that this was posted in the wrong forum is probably worse.
This is the exact reason a QnA forum was made, to stop this forum getting cluttered with questions.

then post in the right section already! or kindly pm someone! or just google it! You don't pay for our help so we don't care if you leave the forums!
So I think I'm doing something wrong.
I made a Nandroid backup in Recovery mode, and thankfully I did because I tried flashing a theme and I got boot loop. So I went back into recovery mode, went to Backup/Restore, Restore Nandroid, and selected the latest backup I made. It goes through the process of restoring (with the flashing dots at the bottom) and says "Restore Complete". I then hit back, and select Reboot Now.
Then it hits the fan. I get stuck at the green "HTC" screen. Nothing happens at all. I let it sit for half an hour and nothing. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? I don't know what to do any help would be really appreciated! Thanks everyone.
Brian
Try doing a full wipe from recovery and then restoring. If that doesn't work then you will probably have to reflash your rom and redownload your apps. BTW this should be in Q&A. Hope this helps!
Hah, that did it! Thank you very much for the quick reply greatly appreciated!
WOW..i think yo u should be banned! Really did you not even bother using the search button???? i know there are plenty of threads about this, and this is a question not Development! READ THE RULES AND SEARCH FIRST!

calm down. just report the thread as in the wrong section. we were all noobs at some point and there's no sense in getting angry at people who don't do things 'exactly right' according to your standards. Chillax breh.
Look dude, they guy asked a simple question and I provided a simple answer. To be honest, you've been flaming every single person that posts in the wrong forum, not to mention you are being rude about it too. You haven't contributed anything but negative comments. I'm here to help in any way that I can, even if my help is being put towards topics in the incorrect sub-forum.
To the OP, the only thing you've done wrong is misinterpret what "Development" means. Please post in Q&A or general so this jerk will leave everyone alone.
</RANT>
I admit yes im flaming people lately because im tired of people not paying attention to the rules or even bother searching the forums(like this person). This is a very basic and known question if they would have just searched.
I dont care if they are new or not if they didnt see the HUGE STICKY THREAD saying dont post questions in this section, then something is wrong, either they need glasses or they are just plain stupid. i would be more then willing to contribute if the thread is posted in the correct section and if they had bothered to even search beforehand(which its obvious this person did not).
Questions belong in the Q&A section not in development. you guys can call me a **** or watever but im just tired of going to the development to see multiple questions of the same crap. If they bothered looking or searching also i wouldnt be such a pain. Just cause you guys think im being mean doesnt make the forums become less cluttered up also. If you let 1 person make a Q&A thread saying oh its ok he is new then there will be 50 more threads of "NEW" people doing it. Im sorry but rules are rules.
MODS i apologize for being like this

Banned for being new and wanting some help? I agree, it should be under q&a but give the guy a break
Sent from my HTC Hero running froyo: take that, Sprint!
+1 Imp - I agree - wow - all that hostility over someone needing help and being new! yikes!
