I have installed the Kernel SpeedMod K9A on my Galaxy S.
The GPS receipt is complete down, I think in the beginning with the speed Kernel (i1-2) the GPS receipt was fine.
The LBSTestMode show under „Get position test“
DOE: 1 Azimuth: xxx
System: 11:53:52 on in 2010-11-27
Elapsed (Sat): X.xxx (second)
No Satellites are found.
If I wipe the phone, the receipt is again fine.
Then the LBSTestMode indicates no entry DOE.
If I Recovery my Data back via Restore Mode, the error appears again.
I already try JI6, I followed "xda-developers - View Single Post - GPS still not working after JI6 Update- Please help", I used FasterFix for Europe settings in gps.conf- nothing.
Can anybody help me without: “so, make a wipe”
weird , i also installed K9A and didn't wipe a phone but the GPS work fine.
i use DXJPA.

Like this comment, my GPS works fine using DXJPA+K9.
SpeedMod lagfix and GPS performance.
Old thread but I just found it while searching for information on the issue I will describe below. Maybe this has already been addressed elsewhere and if so I apologize but I could not find info on this anywhere.
It has to do with SpeedMod Kernel, the lagfix options and GPS performance.
I am running on Doc’s 9.6.6 ROM, XFJS5, JPY modem.
Until yesterday I had SpeedMod 13KA with the tweaks (first 4 enabled) and lagfix (first 3 on ext4 the loop ones on ext2; no system conversion and Bind_data=false). My GPS reception was horrible – loooong times to lock and very inaccurate, jumping all around the map, lagging behind and loosing signal easily.
Yesterday I swiched to SpeedMod K13B, I enabled the tweaks and default lagfix but without touching DATA_LOOP, CACHE_LOOP & DBDATA_LOOP settings. These remained “=false”. My GPS performance improved miraculously! Lock in fewer than 10 seconds, accuracy 5-10 meters.
This morning I put data_loop, cache_loop and dbdata_loop on EXT2. GPS performance was terrible again. I used GPS Test and I could only find 1 (one!) satellite in over a minute of waiting under open, clear sky. I then disabled all the LOOPs again (all “=false”), and behold! I could find 7 satellites in less than 10 second, locked on 6 of them in 12 seconds and on the 7th in less than 20 seconds. Accuracy was 5 meters.
Do you know why this happens?
Today I installed the K13E version on my stock Froyo 2.2.1 device and I have the exact same problem:
The GPS device will just find 1 satelite and no fix. I have only replaced the stock kernel (J5) and haven't applied any lag fixes yet.
Does anyone perhaps know of a fix for this? Could anyone maybe explain how and where to set the abovementioned changes?
Many thanks in advance!
Maybe it is hardware related. Try this?

I am trying to get a solution for these 3 problems I am facing with Doc´s 7.6.2.
Maybe it is not a big deal to make it a perfect ROM but these 3 topics are annoying:
I wrote the same message already in Doc´s threat but no answer at all. in 5 min 10 new messages so nobody really takes care for a new question
Hi Guys,
Some problems I do have with the 7.6.2 and for sure I am not alone with these errors.
1 From time to time high energy consumption but sometimes not - this is crazy. One thing I realized when alarm is switched on for all weekdays then it sucks almost 20% in 5h - just in standby mode. Whats wrong here?
2 GPS signal is bad. When you using this tracking tools eg. cardio trainer it looses half time the GPS signal. Was definitely not with older ROMs.
Is that the modem version?
Is this part of the kernel?
3 Bluetooth works but whenever activating and deactivating getting a stupid message about an opp bla bla.
What is wrong?
Who can help?
Thanks

quite alot galaxy s users have reported issues with the gps reception i used to think its just a driver issue but upon reading into it would seem its related to the antenna. The wifi also suffers from this problem for me it does anyway. you can try out gps booster lite from market it does help outdoors to get a faster fix as for battery issues well im not so sure you would prob better asking in that thread if your still not heard try sending a pm that should work. good luck

1.) Turn off your lagfix, run stock RFS see if you still get the issue.
Do a fresh install dont add ANY apps other than stock, observe for 1-2 days of battery usage.
2.) GPS is a hit or miss, hardware is broken.
3.) Never had issues with BT, I use it on a day to day basis to pass around files at the office.
Are you using one of those OC kernels? Or any of the suggested kernels for the matter? I was using Super Optimized Kernel for a while and the battery drain was outstanding even on the non-OC versions. Switched to SpeedMod 300hz. Haven't monitored the battery though but it seems better with normal usage. Also, what lagfix are you using? For a time I was using the Ext-4 Overkill lagfix from the ULF and I noticed considerably less battery life.
As Earlz suggested, try disabling lagfixes and tweaks and monitor..then if it is better than before perhaps using a different lagfix would be a solution. Try switching up kernels (remembering to disable lagfixes prior). Try running different launchers too. I'm no expert on how these things work and affect battery life, but this is all based from personal experience.
My GPS never worked from the start no matter what firmware/ROM I'm on so it seems to really be a hardware issue as EarlZ mentioned. If the problem came about after flashing 7.6.2 then try reflashing to stock firmware with repartition and installing 7.6.2 again after clearing cache and factory reset. Somehow that (having a super clean install) usually fixes random problems I get with any ROM. I'm not certain if it will have any affect on GPS performance but it's worth a try.
Bluetooth is still working fine for me. Perhaps the aforementioned clean install advice I gave could remedy this.
Hi there, i rescently installed DJP5 v8.0.1 . And have some problems with it. When i'm making call i hear the other side perfect, but they dont hear me well. Is it some issue with the ROM or ? Have someone else experienced similar problems?

There is investigation on that one...
For now, it seems to be a modem issue from the stock modem of ADJP5
Flash another modem seems to fix this issue

Please post your GPS Lock Speeds (how long it takes approx. to get a lock) and how accurate (meters).
In addition, i would love it if you could post what ROM you are on, and any fixes you have used.
I have been ROM hopping and trying various settings and things. IF I ever do get GPS signal in GPS Test, it's never more than 2 Satellites, and that's like after 2 minutes. And I have only ONCE had Google Maps actually accurately keep track of my location.
Last question, when I ODIN Back to the original AT/T Stock, does the ENTIRE phone get reset? Modem, baseband, GPS firmware, etc? Cuz on both stock 2.1 and 2.2 i cannot get ANY LOCK EVEN IF I LEAVE IT FOR 10 minutes.
My main concern is GPS, I want a good lock, within 10, even 20 meters is okay, I have seen it done on YouTube before. I don't care so much about speed and battery meh. Anybody have good ROMS that have a high success rate of GPS lock-age? Again, once upon a time on like 1 ROM i got good GPS, since then, no luck. I have tried all the fixes on the internet / settings changes, etc.
i get a lock withing 20 seconds with 15 (often)-5 (rare) meter accuracy. running 2.2 i9000 froyo rom with jk3 modemand setiron kernel
Iget a lock within 10 seconds with 5-10 meters accuracy. Tracking is e excellent too. I got this by using the JM9 GPS files. I posted a lot about this in the Axura thread. Check it out. Hans is actually using it in his next release as I did extensive testing with only positive results.

how do I check my gps speed?
So here's the deal, and sorry for posting again on GPS matters... Thing is, my GPS was really good on Juwe's 5.0 JVP with Semaphore.
(Before this I did the usual stuff - GPS bend-the-contact hardware fix, GPS aids, calibrate the compass, even Nexus S binaries - I got really good navigation with JVP)
But now, after JVQ and JVR, it's completely shot to hell. I went through many ROMs with different kernels, but it just doesn't maintain a lock, and when it does (for like 4 seconds...) it's usually with 30 m accuracy ( -> useless).
What's weird is that I usually get 5+ birds, with SNR over 28, usually around 35!!
I'm on Jetpack 3.1 with Semaphore 1.5.0, OCed to 1200 MHz, and UVed ( - really stable and fast, no FC, no reboots).
Can anyone offer some insight? Should I just go back to JVP?
Thanks
Sorry to hear this bud - I'm having the same problems and did same stuff - i.e. hardware "fix" and tried many roms. So many in fact that I have no clue as to what "helped" and what was just pot luck.
GPS on this phone is undoubtedly broken and widely documented as such. I even bought an SGS II and sent that back because of similar problems. Samsung don't give a rat's ass about this issue and it will get "fixed" in their future phones by mere coincidence (they get a decent chipset and/or decent programmer to write quality drivers) rather than any effort on their part. HTC manage outstanding GPS on all their phones in comparison to Samsung. Shame HTC don't do Super AMOLED.

When I was on samsung roms I found that the GPS in JVP/Q/R was a lot worse than froyo. It only started maintaining the lock during drives when i used hardcore's T22 kernel with KC1 modem (for the 850 band in Canada).
Maybe try a different modem. I've heard that JV1 modem is better for GPS than JVQ, JVR modem. Just flash via ODIN.
Try GPS Status on the Market. There you can download GPS Assistance data...
Calibrate your compass with it and, the thing i've done:
Goto into /root/etc and edit your GPS.conf file to your actual position in this world.
Mine is europe.pool.ntp.org
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
- the modem has slight impact of gps performance - have not noticed diff betwen jve(jv1) and jvr
- the gps.conf tweaks does not affect gps much
- the firmware itself contains some files that boos significantly gps performance (snr, ttff, birds count) those are few files here and there on system that all together makes gps working ok. that is the case in jvp jvq and jvr - still gps likes to travel own way sometimes (google navigation tested and other apps like my tracks)
DO NOT USE ANY OF THOSE WONDER/PAID APPS FROM MARKET - MORE OR LESS A SCAM TO MAKE YOU PAY THE MONEY FOR APP
if you have problems with gps on jvp/jvq/jvr that means:
- your theme/rom maker screwed up those importnt files
- your firmware instalation is not correct
- you have some hardware issue -> use warranty to replace faulty unit
this is how gps behaves not even under clear sky but at window

@The BigX: thanks, been doing that since Éclair
@$omator: I always try to flash ROMs and kernels properly (flash stock first, etc), and all the Roms I've been using have been pretty flawless in everything else but the GPS... Thing is, in GPS Status or GPS Test I get pretty good locks, even when driving (SNR over 30 for most of them, even 10 m accuracy).
It just seems like... Google Maps or Navigation don't access the same data or something, and it takes forever for a ****ty lock that lasts 4 seconds and is accurate to 50 m.
Gonna try Aura tomorrow.
Thanks for the help, guys.
was using google navigation as a car navigation, phone 'was' on front windscreen
lock was fast and more or less acurate - with problems on roads with woods around (that was very lol when i enetered the forest fix was going from 5 to 50 meters) - but 99% of time stayed on the road wo problems
it is well known problem with the chip used in sgs1 - same one is used by various devices like apple and htc ones with same ****ty results on all - so most likley the chip is just crap=)
Hi people!
On my Galaxy S i9000 I have on Juwe 5.3 (JVR) with Semaphore 1.6.0.
I have the following problem: my GPS works (good accuracy and locking speed) only when the screen is on. As soon as the screen goes off, I lose the fix and precision, while using tracking apps like Runkeeper or My Tracks and diagnostic ones like GPS Status.
I've tried to force the CPU on 1000 MHz with Voltage Control but the problem remains so I'm guessing it's not a performance issue.
Any ideas?
Everything else works fine.
Thanks!
The same happens on my phone (albeit w/ CM7), but I don't mind, since that would eat the battery. I can see how that would render certain apps useless, though. I've used a few ROMs in my day, and never noticed GPS staying locked while the screen was off. I'm interested in how you'd achieve this as well.
Hi.
Yes in fact when I was on stock the gps worked as expected but I was on froyo.
Than I updated to a beta GB and then to Juwe.
I'd prefer not to put a froyo rom just to test if possible. I'll wait for someone to come with some idea
Thanks!
Some updates:
- It seems not to be kernel releated (tried with both semaphore and CF-Root, will try also TalonDEV)
- Not rom releated also (from Juwe JVR to Simplicity JVT, passing thru stock JVT).
Any ideas?
Is there someone whose GPS stays locked even if the screen is off?
Thanks.
Interested as well. Anyone?
Hmm, my gps would always lose lock if i turned off screen (froyo too).. thought that was normal behaviour
i thought that depends on the app. navigon has a setting which says to keep gps on or off when minimised.

Probably this is right. Should be app-related.
I used to have a lot of GPS problems, but I solved them connecting GPS for the first time with WiFi on google maps, after that, GPs worked great without wifi being necessary anymore.

It seems that also other phones are affected by this problem/feature, after the update to Gingerbread.

My Original Post:
Phone runs hot. No deep sleep. High cpu usage from AndroidSystem app. Sometimes screen doesn't turn off after pressing power button. Phone runs slow.
All of this happen after any GPS data request from any app that can use device only gps data.
When GPS is off with a fresh boot, there is no problem.
When gps is turned on but not any data requested from it, there is no problem.
If you turn on device only gps and start using a gps app. CPU usage goes abnormally high and never falls down even after force closing the gps app and gps itself. Only a reboot turns the phone to normal.

I've rebooted several times after installation and didn't give up in first boot.
I have CWM Official v6.0.4.5 as recovery.
Tried different governors and schedulers. No luck.
I'm using the phone with CM 10.1.3 Stable & WWJB_v009_anykernel-20140429 and I don't have this problem with it.
GPS apps never use high amount of CPU and when you turn off GPS apps, CPU usage falls to idle levels.
I've flashed same WWJB_v009_anykernel-20140429 kernel over a fresh CM11 M10 install and gps bug is still there.
I think this is not about kernel or rom but something different. I can't move forward from Jellybean.
Any idea what's causing this?
Any clues, ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

Update: I still have this annoying problem and I'm trying to solve this.
I need you to test this on your devices and tell me the result. Please.
How to reproduce the bug
1- Prepare your SD card with the custom Rom(Kitkat or later preferably with built-in file manager to install apks) to flash and apk files of F-Droid Satstat, CPU-Z for monitoring the cpu load.
2- Before flashing the rom, REMOVE your SIM card. The important thing is, do not let the phone go online after the fist boot. I will download the Agps data immediately and it may work without problem.
3- Flash X-cm12_1_1-20161131-ufoFILES-p880 or any other Rom which is 4.4+ or later. I've tried many and all of them have this problem.
4- After the first boot,(ignore the no "sim card inserted restart" notification just touch some where out of that box) install satstat and cpu-z.
5- Turn on your GPS if it is off.
6- Launch the GPS test app satstat. It will try to connect to GPS and Glonass satellites (if you have a v20 baseband) It is not important to keep the app running until you get a lock just wait for 15 seconds.
7- Close the gps app.
8- At this point you should be seeing a serious lag. Pushing the power button won't response. The phone won't go the sleep. If it does, it won't wake up easily. You will be pushing the power button several times to make it work. Battery will be drained fast.
7- Launch the CPUZ and watch the CPU load and frequency. One or two cores will spike up and down constantly and the cpu will stay at 1000-1500mhz forever.
8- There is nothing to do but restarting the phone. Sometimes my phone gets totally frozen before I'm able to restart it from the power menu. After the restart it will work normally. Provided if you keep the gps closed and not requesting info from it.
Could you test this please?
Problem solved. Temporary solution.
My description from CM11 Official thread:
Finally, I'm happy to clarify that both assisted and device only gps is working excellent!
After many sleepless nights, I've found what's causing the problem in my device. I've gone over 15+ custom roms and different kernels. I've changed baseband and custom recovery to only get despair.
The last thing I did before abandoning everything.... has worked.
Assisted GPS has to go on-line at least one time.
I'm not sure about the logic behind this but I can't believe how such a simple thing caused this trouble for me...
I don't have a data plan right now so no there is no data from cellular. I generally use device only gps outside. I've never used this rom with assisted gps when outside. I didn't get a chance.
When at home, I flashed roms with "device-only gps" testing in mind so I didn't bother connecting to wireless.
I tried this just with 20150524 and nothing else. (gapps, kernel etc.)
Enabled high accuracy mode on gps and connected to wifi.
Launched GPS Status & Toolbox app and at first, cpu usage was high but after the first fix, it's reduced to normal. I exited the app and cpu usage fell to idle as it should.
Switched off wireless and switched gps to device-only. Rebooted. Launched the GPS Status & Toolbox again and now it's working normally under device only mode. Other applications also working good.

Fused Location Provider, responsible for managing different data sources for providing geolocation data, manages the assisted or device-only gps itself. When you enable GPS, it switches the gps mode to high accuracy itself but if you hadn't gone online before with using assisted gps, gps is always stuck at device-only. I think that creates the high CPU usage.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! I wanted to change custom ROM because of this, and you saved me from doing it! So, if I understood correctly, all I need is to enable High accuracy mode, launch "GPS status & toolbox" app (or can it be any other gps app?) and restart after the app gets a fix?

You need to let the device to download A-GPS data from internet. GPS status & toolbox does this easily and you can see the "a-gps age" at the app screen as how old your data is.
Once you get a fresh a-gps data, the phone won't stuck at high cpu frequency when gps is enabled.
I 've found out that after "a-gps age" goes over 20+ days, something happens to the gps, and gps usage starts to cause high cpu usage and frequency stuck again. You have to re-download a-gps data to solve this.
I don't know why but gps in this device is not a true offline gps.
I've already described a temporary solution to my GPS bug.
I'm still trying to find a lasting solution.

Thanks to @oF2pks , I think this may be ril/baseband problem.
Here is another thing:
When I check the "Settings/AboutPhone baseband" it shows L6260_modem_sic_02.1233.00 but If I disable SIM PIN lock and restart the phone it shows LGP880AT-00-V20C-EUR-XXX-OCT-07-2014.
According to oF2pks, a healthy phone should always have only one baseband reading under Settings/AboutPhone baseband.
Sorry for the late answer. I didn't give up and still working on my issue.
For easy describing, lets say State X to the the high cpu state which is causing general slowdown, stuttering, lag and freezes for my device, which occurs after GPS usage, without any data connection after fresh rom install and that kicks in again any time if you are not online with the phone frequently.
After many flashes and tests I found some interesting things.
- In State X, the phone actually goes to deep sleep BUT you have to wait for the 1 minute screen timer and don't push the power button to send it to sleep. After waking it up, cpu is still stuck.
- p880-ota-eng.nmf26qz never displays L6260_modem_sic_02.1233.00 but still falling to the State X.
Only custom rom working without State X problem for me is the cm-10.1.3-p880 stable.
I tried:
Switching cm-11-20160815-NIGHTLY-p880's com.android.location.provider.jar with cm-10.1.3-p880 stable's. → Result: State X
Switching cm-11-20160815-NIGHTLY-p880's telephony-common.jar with cm-10.1.3-p880 stable's. → Result: Error at start-up
add line to getprop file: ro.ril.def.agps.mode = 0
→ Result: State X
Switching cm-11-20160815-NIGHTLY-p880's lge-ril.so with cm-10.1.3-p880 stable's. → Result: State X

- With CM10.1.3-stable, first boot after the rom flash(without sim card) baseband shows L6260_modem_sic_02.1233.00 but in the second boot with sim card, after the very first initialization with gsm tower, it shows LGP880AT-00-V20c-EUR-XXX-OCT-07-2014 and stays like this.
- With my current daily drive cm-11-20160424-NIGHTLY-p880 + WerewolfJB kernel V10
Without sim-> LGP880AT-00-V20c-EUR-XXX-OCT-07-2014
With sim-> LGP880AT-00-V20c-EUR-XXX-OCT-07-2014
Sim with sim pin lock-> L6260_modem_sic_02.1233.00
With different roms, sometimes baseband switches from LGP880AT-00-V20c-EUR-XXX-OCT-07-2014 to L6260_modem_sic_02.1233.00 after gsm initialization.
In one situation, after all the tampering, I flashed CM10.1.3-stable again and this time it was stuck with
L6260_modem_sic_02.1233.00 and never showed the LGP880AT-00-V20c-EUR-XXX-OCT-07-2014 but no State X
With my daily drive, I also checked both states with sibor's Getril. md5sums are the same.
I'm adding screenshots for them.
I think, maybe baseband display is irrelevant with my issue.
Also did format via recovery cleared your previous rom specific settings?

All settings clear but I'm not sure abut default gps switch behaviour. Maybe it's irrelevant too.
Somehow gps switch remembers it's old positions.
Today on single(/primary_multirom) rom I have same kdz designation v20D while booting airplane or sim-on.
But on 2nd/multirom I have the difference (due to primary fake transition via kexec ?), AND the gps is working fine : airplane boot (+FasterGps) + Satstat OK and deep sleep after OK.

My current daily drive does not have the State X rgiht now. It will stay like this for a while without internet connection, but after some time, something will trigger the State X again and there are two solutions:
1- Don't enable GPS
2- Connect to internet and update the A-GPS data.
Did you check CPU usage after GPS use?
Mine stays at 1000-1400mhz with one or two cores.
IMHO you should pm @Demetris about V20C because he was the one who did cover v20c-2014 :http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=2727 ; also he's OP for alternative http://forum.xda-developers.com/opti...grade-t2919195 (and many more...)

I did the CSE flash method of Demetris for the V20C 2014.
I'll ask him about this gps issue. Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm also adding my getprop result for you. From fresh CM10.1.3 stable.
The biggest deal breaker for me with this phone was the "temp_throttle_skin" (around 40°C) temp limit. It's a real pain to have and the main reason of general slowdown.
At least I can deal with this GPS issue from time to time when it needs correction.
My aim here is to create some consciousness about this elusive issue for the fellow O4X users, so some unexplained battery drain issues may be resolved or dealt with by the user.
I wish everyone a Merry Xmas and a happy new year.
@KSH2014 , can you check few more:
-is imei/software = printed imei under battery
-is GPS OK with cm10's original kernel
-is GPS OK with lg JB v20c
Within hidden menu in lg JB, I remember bunch of options (GPS ?), and you problem could be somewhere in it, maybe @RuedasLocas could help you to re-settle this hidden menu

I've been busy lately.
- imei matches.
- GPS is OK with CM 10.1.3 Stable release with it's own kernel.
- GPS was OK or I think so with JB V20. I have to check it again.
I'm planning to record and upload a video to show the problem.
