Is there an app that activates the GPS via text? Incase my phone was lost...
Thanks!

As far as I know there isn't one but I just leave it on since it doesn't use power unless an app calls it.

Good to know...thanks!

Droid Commander lite in the market claims to do this.

This is very easily done through the app called TASKER.
Set up a profile, when Messaging is active, it turns the GPS on, give it a 30 second wait command, and then apply your next action. It sounds complicated, but its actually very easy to use.
Tasker is def my all time favorite non-root app. Its possibilities are endless, truly.

So does anyone know of an apparently that will change settings of the phone depending on where you are? I would love to have my phone go to vibrate mode with sound off when I walk in the door to work automatically.

Yep ditto
From a phone on an app
Tasker does everything but put your phone in your pocket before you leave the house...I think. Now that I think about, you might be able to do that too......BACK TO THE WIKI!
Just wonder if there is a way to lock out certain apps like vzw nav and vcast? I wanna give my tab to my going to 9yr old step son for his birthday. There is no CC attached to his Google so that is safe, but I know the vzw crap will get tapped if I don't lock it some how. He loves words with friends and angry birds.....hey he is learning how to spell better! Any help would be great!

Buy App Protector Pro. There are several like it on the Market, but that's what I recommend. Let's you lock whatever apps you want and toggle it on/off with a widget. I use it on my Tab anytime I'm handing it to someone who wants to play with it.
Cool thanks!

install titanium backup PRO and freeze these apps.
So I had my bionic in my car mount and received a text message. The phone then preceded to read it to me.
I haven't seen this anywhere but is there a way to gain this functionality when walking around?

Settings text to speech and accessibility should help and handcent sms allows only text message readout on the press of a button if memory serves
I kind of wish I could disable this feature.
It kind of got me in trouble one day

I can imagine....
I went through the settings and there isn't anything there to configure when its available.
The Casio G-Zone Commando has a "read out" app that will read any unread messages when you press the app icon. I have looked for the app but can't find it. If I'm able to find a Commando ROM ans extract the apk, do you thing it would work? Hmm, I guess I know my evening.
I have never liked things like handsent or third party apps that do what I already have a core app to do. It just seems like bloat

I agree but they work well as a temp fix until you find the solution
I think this would be a pretty cool thing if I could get it to work.
It didn't take me long to find a commando system dump, but a couple of hours later I am no closer to finding the apk.
I would GREATLY appreciate any help. On the commando there is an app called "read out" and it has the same icon as the text messaging app. If you touch the icon it will read your unread messages to you.
I figure (total guess) that it is interfacing with the picotts.apk like the bionic does in car mode. The bionic has the picotts.apk already, so I want to try installing the read out thing to see of it works.
Does anyone know what the read out apk is named? Or if this would work?

Give me a link to what you are working with and I will take a look, but I am no dev so no promises
Also this seems to work well https://market.android.com/details?id=de.exesmobile.messagereader

I saw there were a couple of apps, what I liked about this was it's almost more of a widget. Nothing opens you touch it and it reads. The down side to an app is if I have to open an app to use it I might at well read the message myself.
I appreciate the help. I know I probably sound like an idiot

So I was able to check out a Commando and the "read out" is a 1x1 widget, not an app. The commando is the only phone I have seen this on.
Is there a chance that the pico apk is different on the commando and has that widget? If so can I install that version and have it work?
I like the widget because I don't want every message read out. I don't see the point in a seperate messaging app, because I could just open and read the message. But the widget I could find useful if I'm on Bluetooth or busy with something and don't want to stop and read. Just tap the screen and continue doing what I'm doing!

Unfortunetely commando forums are few are far between and not a lot of help.

Sucks. Any devs got some free time, and want to work on something a little unique?
So you think that's it, its a different Pico apk?

Check out VLingo in the Market. It has a setting that will read your SMS messages for you. There is even a handy widget to turn it on and off.
I like Car Dock Home v3 for full customizing and use Tasker for everything. It would be trivial to create a task that says to read an incoming text out loud based on docking status or location or time or whatever, and even automatically respond.
Hi all.
I have a Dual brand receiver in my car, and one thing it did with my old blackberry and even droid 2 was when I pressed the talk button for the radio, it launched the voice commands on my phone. That seemed to go away with the droid 3. Not sure if it was a moto thing or gingerbread thing.
My question is, does anyone know of a script or app to kind of get this functionality back? Kinda defeats the purpose of hands free if I have to grab the phone when driving.

Ok let me ask this...
How do I programmatically look for a keypress from a bt device?
Is there some code I can run as a script to return the keypress I am looking for. If so I can then just do a listener script that waits for an on press event for that key and just have it launch voice search.
Sent from my DROID3 using xda premium
So I got a key event app that shows button presses and low and behold, the one butto in the car makes no impact on the droid 3. So I wonder what made the other phones, noteably the berry, listen for it?
Is there something I can do to open up the range of bluetooth, e.g. via the stacks sdk?
I really would like this functionality back tbh.
Can any devs weigh in?

Is there anyway to adjust the app and create a toggle on and off for hourly vibrations within the app? This app has everything id ever want except that.
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
You could do this by sending an hourly notification via Tasker, and an app like Pebble Notifier or YaNC, that accepts tasker intents for custom notification. Then to toggle it, you could trigger the tasker profile for it using the tasker integration with Glance.

Also on Glance - my weather on the face isn't right but it is in the Weather folder. I'm using a Galaxy S5. If its right in the folder but not on the face I'm lost. Location is obviously right. Wadda ya think?
I have gotten rid of Glance as being too hard to manage. I now have a face I designed on Canvas that works with alot less maintenance than I found necessary with Glance.
