[Q] Camera malfunction - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
after reading about various topics i decided to root and lagfix my Galaxy.
Nevertheless, i am now experiencing camera issues.
At first, when starting the cam app, the camera was working until i tried to take a photo. When the photo should have been taken, an error message is shown saying "Warning - Camera failure" (in German: "Warnung: Kamerafehler". Not sure it's like that in English).
I was reading about various possibilities and tried to update the cam firmware via entering the code, downloading the most recent fw for the camera and applying it.
Well downloading and installing seemed to have worked, it shows that i need to reboot my phone. So i pull it off and on again in order to reboot it.
When i am entering the camera app now, the Camera wont even preview your current viewing direction, but immediately crashing after some short time with the same error message as above. I cant even press a button, they just dont react before the app crashes.
So the update seems to have screwed up everything.
What can i do now?
regards.

Help Please!! Incredible S Camera fatal problem!

Hey guys,
Not sure anybody met this problem before.
My camera just happen to restarting when I open it. Last time it works fine and now it's like this. I didn't change anything in the system or install any software. Just restarting. To be specifically, when I entered the camera, camera vision shows, then screen black after 1 second and vision comes back. It repeats again and again. But, if I switch to cam record during the vision appears, the cam recording function works good.
Not only the camera app, but other apps involving a camera function like barcode scanner, google shoppers, the camera restarting again and again.
Anybody knows what's going on?
Doesn't sound like software problem. I suggest take it to the service center for replacement.
My camera has stopped working all together, every time I open the camera or camcorder app, it quickly flashes the icon and then either returns to the home screen or it hangs on a black screen. Although our problems are different, I wonder if other people are having troubles with their cameras. I have done a hard reset and it still doesn't work, so mine also seems to be a hardware issue and I will be returning mine shortly, perhaps you should do the same.
stupid question probably: have you tried a reboot? and i mean a real reboot.
Disable the fastboot or pull the battery, maybe it helps maybe it doesnt.
If thats not going to work i would say: factory reset and if it still doesnt work its time for the service center.
it can also be that there are some faulty images/files on your sd-card so if you have a spare, try that one
I had the same issue with my camera, starting with the logo and then only black screen. Other apps using the camera like Barcode scnanner had the same issue. After contacting HTC they told me to remove the battery for 30s and then reboot. That did the trick for me and the camera went back to normal.
Came across similar problem with a HTC desire, turned out to be the sd card having a fault! Not sure why but when replaced SD card the thing worked great as it should. Just a thought for you but a hard reset and battery out for a minute or two could help.
Ty for the tips guys, will remember them, I learn something new everyday in here haha.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Try resetting the camera to factory default....
wipe it !!!!!!!
I had this problem, but restarting it solves it.
i think i know how 2 fix it...it is a weird roundabout solution
-goto ur gallery
-select the latest photo you have taken from your camera(or basically any photo taken from your mobile will work)
-here`s the tricky part...long press the photo, and select "show on map" from the menu
-let the mobile take its course using the maps installed on ur phone(it should take 2-3 mins max depending on ur speed of course)
-u r DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! the camera should work just fine now
***** what happens is that the photo tries to tag itself from the location involved which sends it 2 a continuous loop hence the camera stops working*****
if any queries,PM me

Works but only 1 time...now the front camera can't function
wipe and install new rom
if software problem
Boot into recovery
wipe cache and Dalvik Cache & reboot
If it is a software problem, ie. if it was working earlier, should revert back to working condition!
Old thread, I know, but might help someone
Cheers!
try removing battery for 30secs, then reboot
Did anyone get a fix for this problem?
My camera has now stop working and I can´t get it to work again. Help Please.

[Q] Camera not working

Hello people.
I have a big problem, I have a note galaxy about 8 days and it stopped working the camera. Nothing appears when I open the camera, just the screen goes black and does not appear anything, sometimes appears an error message and sometimes recording appears The image of the camera for about 2 seconds and closes soon after and error. I'm still in version 2.3.5 possou and how little time he has not even put a firware no official or custom, or is he zeroed in ta This requirement rom.
I wonder if anyone ever had this problem here, if this can be a problem system or physical?
Still not done anything, just gave a reset, but did not work. Anyone have any solutions?
: Confuso:: Confuso:: Confuso:
Just update to ICS rom and check with the camera, if its the same then you might have a camera hardware failure send it to service center
good as I said before, once in a while the camera shows a picture but then immediately closes, ie the camera is working, looking more like a ta sw error. Today when I get home I'll try to upgrade to 2.3.6 as it is in 2.3.5, do not wanna go to ics. but someone there had a similar problem?

Front Camera Crashing

Hi, just received delivery of Moto G 2 Gen. (2014). Tried testing the phone everything works fine except the front camera. When I launch the camera app, I'm able to use the primary camera as usual, but when I try to flip to front cam to use it, the app crashes with error message " Camera Error" "Please restart camera". When I tap Ok and relaunch it, its the same issue again. I tried to clear the app data, force stop it and even factory reset it.
Also tried updating the camera app to the latest update available version 3.3.20.8 but the issue is still there. I tried installing "Retrica" camera app and was able to make the front cam work only for a flash of second and it didn't work again.
Is this a glitch in the camera app or the software build or did I receive a defective device? Please let me know if I have to go for a replacement or shall wait for the software update. Any input or help is appreciated.
Attached a screenshot of the error screen. Thank you.

Front camera working flawless here! Whether your error is a software or a hardware failure is hard to say. My hunch is a software error: the driver of your front camera isn't running well. But as said, that's just hunch! You said you already did a factory reset of the whole device? Maybe you can add a logcat, so some developer can look into it (I'm not so good in reading logcats).
Otherwise I'd return my device and use the warranty to get a replacement!

"Can't connect to camera" - Nexus 6 error with Lollipop 5.1

My Nexus 6 is unable to start the camera. The google camera app hangs when it starts and nothing shows up. Earlier the camera used to open but it lagged a bit when HDR was on. Now the camera isn't opening anymore. The other apps like Instagram that use the camera are also not able to open it. The app opens up and hangs, nothing shows up just black screen and sometimes the message "Can't connect to Camera" appears. This issue came after 5.1 and I also had buzz launcher installed once but then I removed it. The phone is less than 7 months old and I bought it online from Flipkart (Indian e-commerce site).
What I've tried:
Forced stop the app (Google Camera)
Cleared cache of the app
Booted in recovery mode and wiped cache partition
Factory reset the device
Nothing worked for me, I tried these steps one by one and then tested the camera but it is still not working. Please help me with this, I paid a lot of money for this phone on my own and it feels really bad and annoying that the camera isn't functional anymore.
Thanks in advance.

You could try a different camera app.
Camera FV-5.
Camera is a nightmare
Here's my issue with the camera:
I've been on lollipop for a while and I haven't had a problem with it, until the camera decided to take a vacation on me. When it comes to taking pictures, the phone crashes and an icon shows my battery is dead, this happens on a full to half life, so I'm not sure what it's trying to pull here. I've cleared and cleaned the phone, my last option is to reset, though I have a feeling this won't work, since I'll still need the latest android update, so I'm back to square one.
The latest issue Is when it comes to uploading pictures, the phone crashes with the same error sequence.
And the finally issue is the sound the device makes sometimes with the camera. Which is curious because I am careful but it looks like I'm having issues from different sources. I'd like to rule out the software side first.
For the time being, I've disabled the camera completely.

From the Google product forums it looks like a failure of the camera app to close properly after use.

Either by use of a 3rd party app that uses the camera or the flashlight. Also it seems that using face unlock can cause the issue.
That being said, and you've reset the device... Have you tried the camera right after the reset (without 3rd party apps)?

Yes, I tried the camera just after the reset and it did not work. I think the OS should be responsible to handle the apps and how are they being closed. Google is not working upto the mark on this. I still need help

Sadly, it seems like you have 2 options, sucking it up and installing another camera or RMA the device.
I wish that wasn't the case for you, I'm disappointed too. I love this phone.

Extreme lag when using camera, eventually leading to "could not open camera" error

Extreme lag when using camera, eventually leading to "could not open camera" error
I'm quoting this from Reddit because I am having the exact same problem:
"This randomly started happening about a month back. My front and back facing camera would lag intensely while I try to take a photo. When I move my phone around while using the stock camera app it would show everything in a frame by frame motion. When I go ahead and switch over to video mode the app freezes and then eventually crashes. This problem also happens in my Snapchat app. After either the camera app crashes or the Snapchat app crashes it causes extreme system lag and I can't use my phone for about 20-30 seconds. I have tried factory resetting my phone and it worked like normal for a few days and then the same problems started to occur. I have also tried clearing my cached data. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?"
I'm on Chroma (4/5 build, 'stock' kernel, no xposed) and the person that posted this on reddit is completely stock.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
If it's happening on both a custom ROM and stock ROM, it's a hardware problem. Call Motorola.
The same happens to my nexus 6, under 6.0.1.
I don't think it's hardware: try using it on safe mode (when turning it off, push and hold the power off confirmation on screen). You'll notice that the lag in the camera app is completely gone. Any thoughts?
Safe mode certainly wouldn't hurt here, and it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong, and not the last either.
This only started happening with marshmallow for me. It was really noticeable too on Android N preview but it seems to have gotten better now. Idk, but I hope it will be fully fixed by the time N is officially out
I have this issue also, my camera app is kinda unusable, with all that lag and glitches, but it works awesome in safe mode... Did anyone found fix for this?
DUmb question...how do I get to "safe mode"?
I still have the problem with the latest Android N official ROM after flashing and clean install. Before I had the DP5 but unencrypted & it was a little bit better. Any solution / ideas?

Hold the power off popup instead of just tapping it.
