Old original post this one which had no replies. Samsung apps have TekTrak - which sounds as if it should do the job. However you need to log in to the TekTrak web site to compete everything - and surprise - not yet available for Android. So anyone got a good alternative?

my lookout mobile security.
that's my favourite, there is a free and paid app,
you can turn on gps - track it down and wipe / lock device, make the phone scream a loud siren noise which can not be turned off - all from the my lookout website
Also there is an option in the app which stops the app from being un-installed
and finally it also acts as an anti virus - which scans every new app installed, and allows you to backup your sms / contacts
i highly recommend this app - the free version gives you all of the above

Actually it is available for Samsung through SamsungApps. I just downloaded it and completed the registration through the app. Works great for me. Really good app.

I have tried over 20 apps and today found the most amazing tracking and recovery application. It's new and absolutely free. There's only one thing that I'm worried about and that's if the developer will have access in the phones once this gets installed. Look for it on the Market. Name is "Android Lost" by Theis Borg
Features:
* read SMS inbox and sent
* wipe phone
* lock phone
* erase SD card
* locate by GPS or network
* start alarm
* send SMS from web page
* message popup
* forward calls
* remote install
* phone status: battery, imei, etc
* remote SMS alarm
* remote SMS lock and unlock
* start stop GPS
* start stop WIFI

The built in app is the best as it cannot be switched off without a password and it cannot be un-installed. The tracking part is restricted in some countries but the remote lock and wipe is universal. You can set it up from the phone the trick is to press the back button to switch the keyboard off and this reveals the Register button.

Lookout and "Where's My Droid" works great!

App to delete all data on phone if lost?

Hey guys, I was wondering if there was an app that would delete everything on my phone if it was lost or stolen. Or at least something to logout of all my account. My concerns are of someone having access to my email, ebay, amazon, etc. Thanks.
If you got/get the Verizon warranty plan it comes with some of the features you are looking for... although they could still just take the memory card out, but at least they can't just go into your logged in accounts.
Mobile Recovery is an application included with Total Equipment Coverage, at no additional cost (data charges may apply for the download and use of Mobile Recovery). Mobile Recovery allows you to:
Locate a lost device (location shown geographically on a map)
Sound a phone alarm to find a lost device
Remotely lock a device to secure your data
Remotely wipe a device’s contacts to protect your privacy

EDIT - Never mind, apparently the Thunderbolt is not supported yet. Sorry for the incorrect info. Slackers!

I use Lookout, the free version has the following features:
spyware and malware scan/protection
Locate device (uses the phones GPS
Scream (when you login on your PC this feature will sound off a very loud annoying siren from your phone)
Backup Device
The paid version $2.99 per month or 29.99 per year will allow you to lock the device or wipe it completely.

This is what I have on mine. Awesome app, you can locate via gps, make an alarm go off (great if you can't find your phone), lock your phone, wipe it.
Can I transfer seekdroid to future phones?

[Android 2.1+] Root Call Blocker - the only real call blocker

MOD EDIT: links removed
Root Call Blocker
Feeling paranoid? Reject calls from both unknown and blocked numbers! Unlike all other apps calls are rejected before your phone begins to ring!
Fahrbot Mobile are happy to present Root Call Blocker, the only true call blocking application available on Android.
Unlike all other call blocking apps, Root Call Blocker silently blocks calls at a system level, even allowing you to chose a network state reply.
**NEEDS ROOT**
Current features:
- Your phone never rings
- Reject calls from any number, including those with "blocked" network ids
- Reject wildcard numbers
- Hidden mode (removes app elements until secret code is dialed)
- Scheduling
- Choose a network reply (Reject, Alternative Reject, Slow Reject, Fast Reject or Dont answer)
- Block SMS
- Store or delete blocked SMS
- Use profiles to merge different black/ white lists
- Detailed logging
- Rejected call/ SMS notifications
Root Call Blocker is in Beta, and we invite everyone to download and try out the app! However, the Pro version can be used to donate as we phase out the Beta.

No it doesnt. Your ignorance is damaging our reputation.
Does it work like the stock android call blocker ??
I mean beep sound should be played instead of the "Person you are trying to reach is busy ".
Great app!

Great app, already paid for the donate version. I also paid for another call blocker in the past (around €5) but it turned out to be crap. Great work, some more features would be cool but blocking couldn't be better.
Having used modified Sony Ericsson W595 and K800 to have the "black list" patch, I was wondering if there was something similar for Android.
I installed the beta version onto my Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro, and glad to report it does work from testing from my other phone. The Mini Pro is using an O2 SIM with the voicemail disabled. The phone used to test was a Sony Ericsson K800 that has an Orange SIM in it, and these are my findings:
Call block:
Reject: rings once then disconnects (drop call)
Alternative reject: appears to answer (phone used to call seemed to have "connected" - however the other person would probably get the hint and put the phone down after a while)
SMS block:
Currently I have only tested the "block and save" - which still allows you to view the text that was sent. However, be advised that delivery reports were still allowed to be sent to the phone that sent the SMS.
As I said: I have not tried the other settings.
There is no sign of any missed calls or SMS received in the call log/inbox (which I think is a good thing).
Overall I am impressed with this app. Nice work
There's a bug with alternate reject in the current build. We will be fixing it shortly.
For now, a ittle update with new help files...
Save for the option to hide itself, how does this differ from Easy Filter?
Not trying to be a pain, Im just wondering...
Try the beta and find out... all i can say is that is much more powerful. Faster blocking, more options, less system footprint, native code... the list is bigzorz.
i really like this app, it works nicely on my Nexus S and my Desire HD as well
bought your screenshot er before and this now! thanks!

LED Flashlight for Revolution

Hi guys,
I've just released Tiny Flashlight v3.9.8, which has full support for LG Revolution.
You can check it here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.devuni.flashlight
Works good, thanks. Was looking for one that worked on the Revo the day before you posted this.
Works well, thank you.
Thanks doink, I've been waiting for this update. Been using Tiny Flashlight for months on my fascinate and love it.
downloaded last night when i found that tesla flash light would not work... love it...
Why so many permissions for a flashlight app?
NETWORK COMMUNICATION
FULL INTERNET ACCESS
Allows an application to create network sockets.
PHONE CALLS
READ PHONE STATE AND IDENTITY
Allows the application to access the phone features of the device. An application with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like.

Did you read the developer's description of the app?? Wait nevermind, I know the answer.
But if the mood strikes you, click on the link in the first post and expand the description.
Quoted from Android Market app description:
"Permissions:
============
Why Tiny Flashlight needs so many permissions and how are they used:
* TAKE PICTURES AND VIDEOS (CAMERA permission)
- In order to start the camera led (flash) on some devices, Tiny Flashlight has to use a small part of the camera hardware and it needs this permission. Don't worry, I'm not taking any pictures or videos without your permission. Tiny Flashlight is just accessing the camera led (flash).
* CONTROL FLASHLIGHT
- This is the old method of accessing the camera flash on Android 1.5 and 1.6.
*** As you know, Tiny Flashlight is free, but also is one of the best supported apps on the Android Market. Currently, this is the only app that supports almost all devices with camera led (flash) and fully supports all versions of Android (1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 3.0). This takes huge amounts of time and effort and in order for Tiny Flashlight to remain the best flashlight on the market, I have to use ads inside it.
The following permissions are required by Google's own ad provider (Admob) and Millennial Media (the biggest independent ad network). Both are respected industry leaders.
* INTERNET
- Used to load ad info from their servers. Nothing more.
* MODIFY/DELETE USB STORAGE
- Temporary caches some ads on your SD Card. This is another method used to save bandwidth.
* READ PHONE STATE AND IDENTITY
- Some Motorola devices have factory bugs. These devices don't have unique IDs and this became a problem for ad networks, because they can't function without it. There is a workaround for this problem by using the PHONE IDENTITY permission. This permission is used only for getting a unique id. Nothing more."
Have it and love it! Thank you!

[APP] SwitchMe Root Profile Manager needs INCS testers please!

Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on some roms have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, be sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,
others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
Why is this functionality useful?
Privacy - the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.
Testing - if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.
Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.
Speed - the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.
Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.
Market link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.switchme
The Lite version allows the creation of two profiles, enough to test on.
Screens:
Just started to test it, created 2 profiles : one main, one for testing the switching. After first switch, loading circle started, remained stuck for 10secs (same happens when switching back), then restarted. New loading screen showed up, first load took about 5-7mins. After all loaded, switchme requested SU perms and new google account interface started.
One possible bug i noticed, usually when new google account interface starts, the mobile data service is started so you would have connectivity. This time it didn't start (i had it turned off in profile 1, then switched to profile 2). Although it works properly, it just didn't start at first startup.
All my installed/downloaded applications are not included in the app drawer, so that works nice.
But a drawback i noticed. If the app is focused on the privacy part of sharing one device, gallery pics&videos are accessible from both profiles, so you might want to think of a way of restricting pics&vids accessibility only to the profile that created them (big challenge from my point of view).
All default installed application seem to work without a problem.
One strange thing i noticed, our custom ROM has Beats audio included - in profile 1 (my default one) switching Beats audio on/off works, but on profile 2 (newly created profile) switching it off makes it stuck on off (switching it back on has no effect on audio).
As i don't have a necessity for this app to run it as a daily profile switcher, can't test more in-depth scenarios, but if you want something tested/have a scenario, write it up here or send a PM. Good luck with the development.
Using Nik IncredibleS Trinity SensationXL4.0 ROM (2.3.5 android with 3.5 sense) with included 2.6.35.14 RCMIX VIVO kernel (with my HTC Incredible S S710e).
SwitchMe 1.2 has been rolled out and now includes a lockscreen replacement:
1.2
Added lock screen for logging in and out
More stable Fast switch implementation
Reworked UI colors
Now, its very important that we get some feedback on how this big new feature works, so please read up on it in the help and post your thoughts!
1.2.2 - HOTFIX 2
Reworked widget on qHD+ displays
Fixed widget text on HC and ICS
Fast switch improved on older devices
So guys, anything to report?
1.4.3.7
Fixed device specific switch screen crashes and issues
Fixed UI bug in switch screen preferences
If anyohe had problems with superuser before, this should fix them. Please let me know if that is the case, its important we get some feedback here!
Anything to report regarding yesterday's release?
By the way we released a new app today some of you might also find useful, you can find it here:

PLEASE CHECK IT OUT AND BE KIND
Touch Blocker Beta - a simple but useful app that makes holding and using your device easier

- create dead zones where touches do not register
- filter the screen when reading in low light
We are already in a relatively stable Beta release - whats left now is adding new features and making it all look pretty. You can follow this process at the thread here.
Please be sure to write suggestions - we are looking forward to engaging the community and building a useful and nifty application that many will enjoy!

1.5.3.8

Fixed many device specific issues from user logs
- Only bug/or maybe a feature I noticed is The app itself have different settings between logons. I mean If I optimize in one logon, I must made the same changes in other account too. Its sometimes frustating.
- And the setting "logout automatically" not worked correctly. When I speak to someone on phone and proximty turn of the screen, and I remove phone from my ear, It shows the logon screen, everytime.
Seems like everything worked flawlesly. But I have a question. What happens if I uninstall the program?

Lets use our brains to think logically. If it was possible to disable any security by calling the phone, what would be the point of any security at all?

Best Anti-Theft App for ur precious Z1

The other day, I read a post by a user who lost his new Z1 in a shopping mall. So I just want to know, what would be the best app to track your Z1.
In India, I have preloaded apps like Mcafee Security, X Alert for Xperia, Android Device Manager. Also play market is flooded with many tracking apps. But my concerns are :
1) What if the Sim is changed ?
( since you don't have new no, you can't send sms commands..do we have a tracking app which can also notify the sim change)
2) What if GPS and 2G/3G connection are off ? ( I usually keep them off to slow battery drain)
3) What if the thief is a pro ( n also follows xda :laugh: ) and flashes a New rom.
I am ready to root my device for the sake of security and can also buy a pro version of any app to ensure safety.
P.S. : In India, you can easily lose a phone in metros, malls, buses etc. So believe me, I'm not paranoid my concerns are very much genuine.
i agree with the OP .. even i would like to know and do the same
I use Cerberus. You can use it on 5 of your devices for one license I think and it's cheap. It's also light, no anti virus bloat. Just tracking. Can monitor for sim changes. Also has root features like uninstall protection.
I've been using it for a few years now. Once off payment. No subscription
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
If you have root on your phone Avast has a really nice feature as it allows the Anti-theft to be installed in the root of your device. You can also prevent third-party from accessing the setting etc etc. + all the standard features. It is free so give it a shot.
No chance

Most anti theft software will work up until flashing or phone is put into airplane mode. What would be clever is if said anti-theft software turned off airplane mode to call home every hour or so. As most task schedulers need root to do this the only thing I can suggest is that you invest in a Bluetooth headset. Negating the need to take the phone out of a secure place in your pocket. Would you feel better losing a headset over a phone?
Google also provide anti data theft function to wipe the phone if you trust them.
Not sure if you have insurance in india but in the UK if you lose your phone. Just IMEI block it and make an insurance claim. At least the phone is not usable once you report it lost or stolen obviously other aspects can be used.
If you want security then encrypt your storage and pin and sim lock the phone. It's not perfect but if someone is hell bent on trying to get access to your data you have a better chance of wiping it before they can try to unlock. Don't know what the lifetime of decrypting a storage card is but there are some things you can do in Android that don't require extra apps.
I would recommend Macrodroid Pro Edition
With the Macrodroid Pro Edition you can create a macro (a script with a set of instructions to be run when a certain condition is met)
This macro could respond to an incoming SMS containg a specific text like: "locate" , or could run with a timer (ex: once an hour/once a day)
and you would make a macro that simply:
-turns on wifi
-turns on mobile data
-turns on gps
-wait 20sec before next command
-refresh the positioning data
(it means that the phone will try to locate its own position using any of the above methods and respond with the most accurate location it can find)
-wait 20sec before next command
-Send the info via email to your account (or back to the phone that sendt the locate SMS) (i find sending to email safer)
(here you can repeat the refresh if you want to make double sure that you'll get a result)
(here you can repeat wait for 30/60sec)
(here you can repeat send to email)
-wait 20sec before next command
-turn on flashlight
-turn the volume to FULL for all types of volume
-play a sound or melody
-turn the screen on
-lock the screen (key lock)
-delete the incoming calls list
AND IF YOU MAKE ANOTHER macro YOU COULD LET THAT macro RESPOND TO SMS "locate and delete" AND PERFORM ADDITIONAL TASKS LIKE:
(-delete sms from specific contacts)
(-delete all sms andcall info)
(-move files into hidden folder (ex pictures) )
(-run another macro or program like dropbox or google+ to take remote backup of your pictures/recordings/sounds)
(-run commands to reset the phone to factory reset) (PS: this step will remove/uninstall macrodroid and prevent you from retrying to locate the phone)
So that even if you loose the phone, you might be able to save your memories and render the phone useless for the thief !!
And that should work wonders... You can find examples of macro's on macrodroids forum, and in the app itself
but for an advanced macro like this one would be, you would need the pro version in order to add all the needed macro-steps
And you will need ROOT access to be able to turn on the GPS (i recommend using "kingo android root" to root your Z1 phone)
and to get to some of the special features that can only be accessed on an rooted phone, i really recommend rooting your phone for this! )
This is what I do track my phone... and it works... as long as the phone can be reached using an sms or a phone call...
You could also force the phone to run this everytime it is being shut off (normally, but not with the hard-reset: power+volume up)
so to add another layer of protection...
or you could define that if the phone is not near a known location at a given time, then it should run this macro...
if you know that you're always home at 5pm or at work from 1pm to 7pm...
so whatever day the phone is in a different location than expected, at a given time, it will track itself and send an email with position data..
All this should add quite a good option for tracking your phone...
It is not 100% safe regarding to the thiefs that turn off the phone, or reset it... but then again... what is?
