so im really confused im not sure what the difference between all of these are. i get froyo is the new os and speeds up your phone. im on rogers and i hear the new update is coming soon so im thinking i will just wait. is 2.2 gonna fix the problems that people are solving with oclf and cognition? what does the oclf exactly do? once it is done i have to update my os manually after that dont i? same question for cognition, is one better then the other?
im sorry i have searched alot and im still confused so any help would be great. if i do update to 2.2 is there any reason i should further update it by adding oclf or cognition or would it be pointless, can u even add them if you are using 2.2 or can it only be done in 2.1

Not sure what you mean.. OCLF is an acronym for one click lag fix.. which the name should be self explanatory. Cognition is a captivate rom created by designgears.
There are many lag fix tools - OCLF is one, Voodoo, etc. No one knows what an official Froyo (2.2) release will bring - or what it will fix.
If you do go to a 2.2 release (which could be a beta, Cognition, or something else) you will have to decide if you also want to install a lag fix. Some ROMs include them, but install is a second step.
i understand
what oclf is but like does the cognition rom do more then what oclf does. people talk about there benchmark score after they install ryans oclf. does cognition do the same thing and add more features. is cognition better then a oclf
OCLF is obsolete and never did much more than artificially boost benchmark scores.

Hi Everyone,
i'm pretty much new being a Samsung galaxy S user (but proud to be )
anyway, i've seen more than 6 version of Froyo 2.2 already here inside the forum but i really don't an idea which one is the best or latest (faster, stable etc)
i've installed Froyo 2.2 XXJPM with Odin and it's working ok~ but still a bit slow and buggy'-Jumpy when sliding within the Menu pages, no idea how to fix...
anyway, any idea which version will work the best for me or i should wait for the original-official one which should come out in Nov this year?
appreciate your comments folks.
thx!
Yanir
I use the stock Froyo JPM with the 336meg memory and universial lag fix, DAMN THE THING FLIES! I'm also using the ADVANCED JFS setting for universial lag fix. I highly recommend you just leave your froyo Stock and do what I did. The 336meg kernel also has busybox and root as standard. But hey, If you want to try roms then make sure the new roms have the universial lag fix in it as i notice a few already do. Also the extra 36megs of ram helps a lot. seriously
thanks!
can you share a link for the guide etc?
appreciate that mate!
Yanir
Or go with Doc's and Kalpik's ROM.
thanks Soniboy84

Please post a link to both the universal lag fix and the 336mg kernel.
I'm on Jpm with oclf and it's still pretty laggy
I have the samsung captivate at 2.1 and it is rooted and has sideloading enabled where I can install non-market apps from my usb card. I want to update to Froyo 2.2. I have been reading but getting different answers about rooting and sideloading Froto 2.2 original leak. Also I have backed up my phone.
1.Can Froyo 2.2 original leak be rooted and sideloaded with this file?(superoneclickv1.5.4)
2.Is this the file for the original Froyo 2.2?(I897UCJI6-OCD-REV02-Low-designgears)
I want to say this is my first android phone and these things are nice. I used to only use windows mobile phones, but now...... hello android.
I would like to say thank you to all the people for the guides and help that make it possible for me to play with this fun phone.

To be honest, I think the latest cognition ROM is way better than the leaked froyo. Faster, smoother, just better. And cognition of course has sideloading enabled.
Coginition question?
I read a little about the coginition roms. They seem really nice but could you answer a few questions.
1.Can you start out with the lastest rom first?
2.I read that it is really hard to go back to your original flash enev if you have a backup.(I did make a backup.)
3.I am not being a smartass but, could you please answer my first questions in my first post please.
Thank you for replying so fast.

Yes that is the leaked JI6 Froyo firmware, and is also one click odin.
Thank you
Thank you for answering my question.
If i was you I would leave 2.1 and add side loading, lagfix remove blootware and you got a pretty good set up, I have flashed most of the Roms here and I wont say with one is the best becouse each one has it flaws and I think just the leaked Frito has the most bugs tho design gears is basing his cog on it so he fixes stuff as he goes

Thank you for your reply. Which lagfix would you recommend?
Hey guyz, im new to android world so id like to introduce myself shreddd ... im a software developper so as soon as i get confortable with android i will be developpin some apps . (android sdk is already installed on my eclipse hehe)
Alright so there is my situation.
I have a captivate i896 just rooted it the hard way. Ive search the forum a bit and im going to put cog froyo on my phone. My question is : Ive read about lag fixes specially voodoo lag fixes wich seems efficient and i was wondering if i should install that lag fix before or after flashing to froyo 2.0 ?
Since froyo rom could overwrite everything it could be useless to install the fix before , but since this fix it format the sdcard it could be usefull... anyway you tell me hehe
If I am not mistaken the latest cognition has voodoo built in, it will install automatically.
yessir you put cog on your phone VooDoo is not only initiated but also it will be rooted happy flashing!!
Sent w/cog v2.4 using smoke signals
Please don't post this in Development.
Sent from my Captivate.
On some roms especially i9000 based you have the option between like 5 or 6 lag fixes

Hello everyone. Yes I know everyone is saying "oh god not another random shutdown thread!" Hehe but believe me I am not one of those that goes on here and just decide to post up a thread and not do any researching! I have been diggin my freaking eyeballs out by staring at over 50 plus pages of forums on here and on google! So far no answers
I believe the problem started ever since I upgraded to the leaked Froyo 2.2 of designgears and rooted it. So far I have not installed any apps such as task killer or anything that could cause this problem. I found out this morning by waking up and my phone is not on after charging it. Alot of people state they are fine with the leaked 2.2 and that it is not froyo thats doing this but then a lot of people also said that the leaked froyo 2.2 has a problem with the power management and is a bug.
I am literally about to go blind if I keep on reading any more threads, well not blind but will get a horrible migraine headache. Now can someone point me to the right direction to what I need to do?
Should I restore back to 2.1 eclaire using Odin's one click method and then do the over the air update from att? Would that fix the problem or do I need to return the phone, which is unlikely because no one is claiming it's the phone. Plus I just literally got the phone like a week ago brand new.
Please help me out and other newcommers to the android scenes Thank you for your time!!
This is a known issue with his oc/uv versions. You can flash back to stock using the One Click Odin and the try one of the non-oc/uv versions to see if you have any better luck.
I'm on the non-oc version of Perception 8 and do not have the charging death trouble.
Thank you very much for this reply. What is oc/uv version mean? Can you elaborate more on it? I will try to revert back to stock 2.1 eclaire but I really want to have the froyo on this phone cause I heard it's much much better?!? Will Perception 8 do that or is it just a simple theme/UI change? I was going to try digigaff's rom and the cognition rom but will that make my phone a froyo or it's still a eclaire?
Oh btw, I also read that you have to use odin to flash to stock rom to use those, does that mean I have to flash back to 2.1 anyways since froyo is not supported?
Edit 1: This is the digigaff rom that I was talking bout, but I noticed he mentioned it being oc also, which I think isn't good to do on these phones bc of the back being metal and gets hot?
oc = overclocked
uv = under volted
No I wouldn't think overclocking would be a great idea. I mean, what kind of applications are you running? It's not like we're trying to solve world hunger or launch the next rocket into orbit. Applications run just fine @ 1ghz. Anyone that tells you any different is probably running an application that is poorly coded.
Perception is based on a Bell (Canadian) I9000 Froyo Rom. Cognition is a great way to get Froyo on your phone as it is way more user friendly. I started with the Cognition roms when I started my flashing.
Just remember to read as much as you can about the rom you want to use, have backups of applications and data (most use Titanium Backup) to restore (not system data as this will cause problems) after you flash and have a good plan on how to recover when something goes wrong. We've all had to flash to stock and start over again at least once.
Good luck and welcome to the forums!
I see so perception is build on the froyo core, but I have to make sure I have to flash back to eclaire 2.1 before flashing back again to the perception? So the leaked 2.2 froyo on this site as well as all the other sites are a result of a oc/uv "beta'' copy and not like a official release?
did you check out digigaff's rom to see if it's ok to use for the captivate or would that rom oc it?
Okay, so I've done rooting my Cappy with ECLAIR.UCJH7 update. I've also done with the lag fix from the Market. Now, what I want is to flash a new Rom. I'm somehow caught up in the middle of Cognition and Perception, I don't know which one do I use. Can you help me out? And if possible, steps on how to apply/flash it. Do I need to restore my phone to default? Thanks and sorry for too many questions.
first thing you do is get rid of that oclf. It uses a dangerous method to make the phone APPEAR faster in a quadrant test...without ANY real world improvement. Cognition is the most popular, closest to stock build. check it out here. My preference is the leaked froyo with a few tweaks heres a look at cognition http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786532

So you would recommend Cognition instead of Perception? I've read somewhere that there are lots of bug on the cognition. You think I should remove the lag fix?

Ryans oclf=REMOVE NOW! The latest version (2.3 beta 8) of cognition Is built using a kernel as close to stock as possible as i understand. It also comes with the voodoo lag fix. Voodoo is a legitimate file system restructure that produces elevated quadrant scores AND real world results http://project-voodoo.org/lagfix this comes with the latest version of cognition in the link i sent you

For cognition i cant say for sure. there should be instructions on the link i sent to you. I flashed the initial 2.2 froyo rom....i dont want to give you any false information.
You're using a Froyo rom? But have you tried cognition before?

Hmm. So the bluetooth will not properly work when I flash the rom that you use? And is it okay to flash the cognition when I'm on the updated ECLAIR? The UCJH7 one..
Correct. Bluetooth will NOT work. Its recommended to flash back to stock..although im not sure if its required in your case...this may help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
