Has anyone else noticed that audio and video aren't in sync? Or is it just my phone?! Literally, in every video i play audio is a fraction of a second out of sync when compared to video. Tried with 720p, brrips 720p, dvdrips, and even ordinary hdtvrips, and it happens in every single one of them. Also happens when playing games. Is there a fix?
experiencing the same problem
Yes I have the same problem like you. They aren;t synced on froyo, but in eclair was everything ok. Any solutions?
So far, i haven't found a solution... It really sucks, can't watch anything.
Same with mine. All Video worked perfectly with Eclair. Now with Froyo almost every video I play the Audio goes out of sync. You can actually hear the audio is slowing down and the voices sound stretched.
Also found no sollution yet. Must be a bug with this release of the firmware.
Very frustrating!
BTW this is what I have:
Firmware Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: I9000XXJPP
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 ([email protected] #1)
Build Number: FROYO.XFJP7
Here is what I recorded with my phone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsRzM_w0SZ0
Low quality setting to verify that the hardware can cope with the video acceleration. Still this problem occurs.
this is s%$$%^
same problem. could any pros here plz enlighten us?? i loved watching movies on my sgs...now...sigh T_T
Having the same issue on my Samsung Galaxy 3 (Eclair: I5801DDJG6).
Tried various encoding tools but no success...
Still looking for a solution.
Still nothing? I have same problem on my Galaxy 3 i5800... There has to be a solution...
Anyone found a solution to this ?
Seriously planning to sell my brand new galaxy s now.
Its unbearable.
I have the same issue. At first I thought it was just avi files, but then I realized that it was a problem with all video, including youtube. Really wish there was a fix...
really interesting!
I just tried myself and there is a lag (out of sync).
it could be:
1) A codec issue (depending on wich rom???)
2) A sound treatment issue (maybe something like vodoo sound???)
3) Kernel?
4) Rom?
Let's investigate a bit more, would you mind to give full detail?
Mine:
Doc's Kitchen JS5 9.6.6 - speedmod K13C
2.2.1
I9000XXJPY
2.6.32.9 [email protected]
I don't believe the rom or kernel matters. I have this issue sine day one. And I've used many roms and kernels and I still have the delay.
Samsung engineers are stupid to say the least if they haven't noticed it themselves. And Samsung is stupid to release this phone with this bug.

To do a fix you need to get some informations to target the problem, the more data/background you give, the faster it'll probably be fixed.
Is this affecting all the camera software found from the market or just the stock camcorder?
This is really annoying. Last night I was filming a a live performance by a band and the music is noticeably out-of-sync. This was not the case with Eclair
Anyone asked if SuperCurio can help with this?

I asked supercutio about this but he didn't have time to think it over. He is busy with nexus kernel.
I didn't find any camcorder app in the market so I don't know if its a stock app issue.
I'm sure it's Froyo's fault and not a hardware issue but I doubt Samsung or Google will ever address this annoying bug.

I have the firmware related sync issue which was not present in Eclair. This makes.me really sad as I'm on my way to visit India and would love to take some HD videos there. Now I don't have the time to go back to Eclair to fix this issue so is there anything I can do after the trip to fix thesync? For example, if the sound is constantly lagging 200ms I could easily fix it but if the lag is varying in time I don't think there's much I can do. Anyone know better?

Time to replace my old HTC Diamond isn't ? On paper, the Galaxy seems by far the best option. However, users complain about GPS, which is very important to me, and lag which is quite annoying.
Are those problems solved when installing Froyo ? I don't mind modifying the phone as I have been doing it for a couple years with the Diamond.
The next best option seems to be the Nexus 1. I really don't know what to do !
Comments ?
The GPS problem is not fixed (at least for me) in Froyo JPK. If GPS is a key feature for you I would advise to wait for official Froyo to see if the GPS is fixed, or, alternatively, buy a different Android phone.
The lag problem is not fixed either, however you can root the phone and install Voodoo or one-click lag fix and that does fix the lag.
I love my Galaxy S but if GPS is really important to you then it is not the phone for you.
for me neither of the lag fixes actually impact on the day to day use of the phone, it still lags.
Yes my quadrant scores are a hell of alot faster but in real life the homescreen with widgets open still stutters
I am in the same boat currently, im impatient, but luckily in the position that if when froyo arrives it solves the issues, i can always go and purchase another SGS
There are numerous users who have experianced hardly any lag and good GPS performance, i unfortunatley am not one of those people no matter what rom i use

as for lag, real lag fix eg voodoo makes it fine for me, but froyo currently does not fix lag. Maybe final.
With the Galaxy Tab Froyo released and open source code as well we might see better fixes.

I do have a sgs phone without lag and gps do work.

GPS is fixed with JPK.. it locks in less then 3sec. even got a look inside in about 5sec.. big improvement.
Problem is not the fix but the accuracy.
Keep in mind, everyone is testing with beta releases. The final release might change everything..

But realistically, we have no way of knowing for sure..
GPS works like a charm on jpk here, I've been to several addresses this week already!
Lag, .. what lag? oh the occasional 1 or two second waiting for an app to open that happen once or twice the week? Not a real turn-down though =/
And within the -4 weeks of abusing jpk i had maybe twice or trice that it was very sluggish, pretty much locking up or freezing up,.. while acting normal later on.
Happy about it, but it's missing the finishing touch i had in the original rom (certain options)
jpk+oclf
Thank you all for your interesting comments. Mike, your GPS tracks convinced me. I understand that not all SGS have the GPS problem but I don't want to take the chance and get a bad one. I ordered a N1, which is back-ordered for about 2 weeks - if a fix comes for the GPS before I receive the N1, I'll cancell the order to get a SGS.

Has anyone else experienced this?
After the Froyo update on my S, video playback has become jerky at times, to the extent that the video stops but the sound continues. This never happened before....but it returns to normal after about 10-30 seconds.
I'm playing back xvid and divx avi files, approx 700mb.
Can anyone help please!? it's getting really frustrating!
Yeah I have also experienced it. But not in all videos. In mine it is just minute that is for about a 2 seconds and it becomes normal. I am slowly coming to the conclusion that I am better off with Eclair.
My videos are fine, but MP3 playback hiccups...also apps force close all the time, even mid-call at times...Eclair was better, 2.1.1 made it bad and 2.2 has made it worse
Galaxy S flashed through Odin...unrooted..don't know if I ought to risk rooting it..any suggestions?
I have the same issue..already did a post about it.
did u guys restore apps/system using backup?? as far as I know this could be the issue.
I will do a reflash from scratch this weekend and try videos on a fresh install.
I am convinced that this is one of the issue. I had flashed a custom rom froyo and I have also flashed through kies hack JPO. In both versions of froyo, I have the same issue. I have not restored any backup or anything.
yeah I just upgraded to asian jpd via odin was on stock optus rom. Hardreset etc. lagfix fixed via z4mod rooted. Experiencing the same jerky video playback with standard divx videos. Tried another data wipe but problem persists.

Did you find any solution to the problem.. me too stuck with the same issue..for me mkv's play good, without any issues..but if its avi back comes the jerkiness..
at least i'm not the only one....
I'm still having problems and I had to give up watching somethign on the way to work as it was so bad and kept saying "cannot play this file".
I started from scratch, done a factory reset after upgrading and it hasnt fixed the problem. Also I've tried to close down all programs before watching something and even clearing the RAM, but it makes no difference.
I'm getting really annoyed with it now! Does anyone have a solution? Anyone!!?

I guess it not just the galaxy hardware but other as well... maybe it froyo.
None of the players could help, but yxflash. The main problem with yxflash that together with smooth playing it produced significantly lower quality of video-rendering.
Anyway I've managed to solve the issue. The steps were:
full reinstall of official android 2.2,
hardware reset,
microSD card formatted,
the video converted with Movavi Video converter into Ipod preset or what ever your device needs. That's all.
Dear all,
I noticed my phone has an issue and I think this may not be rom / kernel related, so I would like to ask here.
My phone is running fine every time after booting up, however after running for a random period of times (say 2 - 7 days), it cannot play any media files. I can't play youtube (it said the video cannot be played), can't listen to mp3 (music player reported unsupported codec), ringtone disappeared (phone don't ring if i get call) and other apps failed in similar way. A reboot can solve the issue.
It is a bit annoying (especially when you when to play something and you suddenly identified that you need to wait for 5 min for a reboot), does any one experienced similar issue?
To clarify , I am running darky rom with darky kernel 1.0, however I had this issue for a few months, I was using super optimized kernel and had the same issue as well.
Same here. i'm running Darky's 9.4 but I don't know if it is related to this rom.
I don't remember that I had this problem before.

Another one running Darky rom with a problem .

I have this problem.
(dark kernel 1.4 and darky rom 9.5)
I get this occasionally and I'm on stock 2.2.1. It's a massive pain in the arse. I thought maybe it was something to do with my external micro sd card but I formatted it and waited hours to copy all my music to it again and I'm still having problems.

So quite a few of people having this problem. Did anyone of us find out the root cause? And what's the reason that others do not suffer from this? This happened on Darky, Super Optimized Kernel, Speedmod, Stock Rom...
Some experts can help?
Also know this problem. Had it on stock and some custom roms too. Tried nearly every kernel ever available for our phone but didnt help. so it really maybe some strange Hardware issue...just speculating but when did you guys get your galaxy? cause mine was one of the `first generation` got it immediately when it was available here in germany in june/july 2010...perhaps this got fixed by Samsung later on

I've seen another thread were someone said it was called by the twitter client. They have updated the official twitter client recently, and I've not had the problem occur since. Although, it may be too soon to tell, it used to happen to me very regularly.
And just to followup, the problem hasn't gone away with the new version of twitter.
So, I'm not sure of what is the cause (or solution) to the issue.

Nope, i though you are talking the twitter update around 1 week ago. I just found that twitter have a new update today and never tried it if it fixed the problem. The change description do mention something similar, fixed a bug to skip music player while updating.. not sure if this is really the case.... need to test now...
good topic
I'm going to get rid of the twitter app then to see if it helps as updates don't seem to have done anything and I reformatted the sd card again and stuck everything back on there today and not only did it happen again, it's getting worse! Not only could I not play any music a minute ago, a load of my apps had vanished too! I assume ones that installed to SD by default rather than the phone storage.
If this sorts it out I'll be very happy. Twitter's crap anyway.
I've been having the same problem for a while now. I have just uninstalled Twitter and will see if that helps.
Basically all media stops working. Can't even record anything with the camcorder app. Nothing plays back. No youtube, no camcorder videos, no nothing. BUT arcmedia will open some videos sometime. HMMM weird, because other video player apps don't seem to be able to play them.
I'll give an update later today if it works. Videos normally stop working after only a few hours on my phone.

Do you guys have 8GB or 16GB models?
I've only come across this once and it was on a stock 16GB, one of the early ones, started about a week ago...upgraded to JVB seems to have solved it for now, time will tell.

So here I am, another noob with a question
The problem is, I'm using third different ROM(used MiniCM6, Stable 2.2.1, currently FroyoBread) on my X8, and they all seem to have the same problem. For some odd reason my sound is ahead of my audio when I record a video . At first I thought it's just a problem of one ROM, but when I tried three of them, and they all got the same problem, I started wondering, maybe there's a fix for that.

Hello everyone,
3 days ago ICS upgrade "finally" arrived to Egypt and i upgraded my galaxy note OTA, after upgrading it was a little laggy and i did not find the S-Note app some people suggested to reset the device and this helped a lot, i also installed Go Launcher Ex and the note became very smooth, then after recording a video and when playing it back i got shocked by the very poor sound quality, i tried to record only the sound using sound recorder, still the same very poor sound quality, then i started to search all over the internet for a solution, the only solution i found is to downgrade to GingerBread, isn't there any other "real" solution for this problem.
Thanks.
the simplest way imo would be to find better app on the market, some apps provide more settings, like output first, sample rate etc., theoretically higher recording quality should reduce hissing...
my personal choice, after trying several, was Easy Voice Recorder Pro (cheap, simple but configurable and i like the interface), but it's all a matter of taste

Thank you p107r0 so much for replying, the sound quality was perfect before upgrading to ICS, i am wondering if the audio gain options has been altered in ICS, if so how do i change it to match GingerBread's options instead of downgrading to GingerBread.
Thanks.

I'm sorry, the suggestion provided was somehow beside what you were really asking, and as to this I don't know, and cannot check, having switched to CM9.
Still, sometimes, it's easier to deal with symptoms first (e.g. replacement app), and treat the underlying reasons later (or not at all, depending on free time)
Does anyone else have this problem??Maybe it's because you did OTA while people suggest using ODIN.
I found some people on youtube complaining from the same issue but there were no solution, i waited too long for ICS now i am very disappointed
I solved it
i managed to try my luck with the settings and searched for any audio related options and found these:
1- Settings > Sound - tried every thing with no luck
2- Settings > Accessibility > Mono audio "Unchecked" - tried to check it and surprised as this worked for me and the recorded sound is now working as it should be
the strange thing is that i tried to uncheck this option again and compare between the two condition and surprised again that this issue is gone forever.
is there any explanation for this? and should i check "Mono audio" or leave it unchecked?
Thanks.
I am still having the same problem, even after following the above steps. Is there any other solution available to rectify this issue? Please help. God Bless.
