[Q] video / audio out of sync

Has anyone else noticed that audio and video aren't in sync? Or is it just my phone?! Literally, in every video i play audio is a fraction of a second out of sync when compared to video. Tried with 720p, brrips 720p, dvdrips, and even ordinary hdtvrips, and it happens in every single one of them. Also happens when playing games. Is there a fix?

Yes I have the same problem like you. They aren;t synced on froyo, but in eclair was everything ok. Any solutions?

So far, i haven't found a solution... It really sucks, can't watch anything.

Same with mine. All Video worked perfectly with Eclair. Now with Froyo almost every video I play the Audio goes out of sync. You can actually hear the audio is slowing down and the voices sound stretched.
Also found no sollution yet. Must be a bug with this release of the firmware.
Very frustrating!

Low quality setting to verify that the hardware can cope with the video acceleration. Still this problem occurs.

Tried various encoding tools but no success...

I have the same issue. At first I thought it was just avi files, but then I realized that it was a problem with all video, including youtube. Really wish there was a fix...

I just tried myself and there is a lag (out of sync).
it could be:
1) A codec issue (depending on wich rom???)
2) A sound treatment issue (maybe something like vodoo sound???)
3) Kernel?
4) Rom?
Let's investigate a bit more, would you mind to give full detail?

I don't believe the rom or kernel matters. I have this issue sine day one. And I've used many roms and kernels and I still have the delay.
Samsung engineers are stupid to say the least if they haven't noticed it themselves. And Samsung is stupid to release this phone with this bug.

I think it matter, the bug appear only on 2.2.x

I have it in 2.2 and 2.2.1. Official roms and custom roms.
I use the latest speedmod kernel

I have the same sync issue! A quick goggle search shows that many other people are in the same boat - yet there does not seem to be a fix anywhere ! Very sad...

To do a fix you need to get some informations to target the problem, the more data/background you give, the faster it'll probably be fixed.

Is this affecting all the camera software found from the market or just the stock camcorder?
This is really annoying. Last night I was filming a a live performance by a band and the music is noticeably out-of-sync. This was not the case with Eclair
Anyone asked if SuperCurio can help with this?

I asked supercutio about this but he didn't have time to think it over. He is busy with nexus kernel.
I didn't find any camcorder app in the market so I don't know if its a stock app issue.
I'm sure it's Froyo's fault and not a hardware issue but I doubt Samsung or Google will ever address this annoying bug.

I have the firmware related sync issue which was not present in Eclair. This makes.me really sad as I'm on my way to visit India and would love to take some HD videos there. Now I don't have the time to go back to Eclair to fix this issue so is there anything I can do after the trip to fix thesync? For example, if the sound is constantly lagging 200ms I could easily fix it but if the lag is varying in time I don't think there's much I can do. Anyone know better?

[Q] Multimedia Playback Failed after running for a few days

Dear all,
I noticed my phone has an issue and I think this may not be rom / kernel related, so I would like to ask here.
My phone is running fine every time after booting up, however after running for a random period of times (say 2 - 7 days), it cannot play any media files. I can't play youtube (it said the video cannot be played), can't listen to mp3 (music player reported unsupported codec), ringtone disappeared (phone don't ring if i get call) and other apps failed in similar way. A reboot can solve the issue.
It is a bit annoying (especially when you when to play something and you suddenly identified that you need to wait for 5 min for a reboot), does any one experienced similar issue?
To clarify , I am running darky rom with darky kernel 1.0, however I had this issue for a few months, I was using super optimized kernel and had the same issue as well.

Same here. i'm running Darky's 9.4 but I don't know if it is related to this rom.

I have this problem.
(dark kernel 1.4 and darky rom 9.5)

I get this occasionally and I'm on stock 2.2.1. It's a massive pain in the arse. I thought maybe it was something to do with my external micro sd card but I formatted it and waited hours to copy all my music to it again and I'm still having problems.

So quite a few of people having this problem. Did anyone of us find out the root cause? And what's the reason that others do not suffer from this? This happened on Darky, Super Optimized Kernel, Speedmod, Stock Rom...

Also know this problem. Had it on stock and some custom roms too. Tried nearly every kernel ever available for our phone but didnt help. so it really maybe some strange Hardware issue...just speculating but when did you guys get your galaxy? cause mine was one of the `first generation` got it immediately when it was available here in germany in june/july 2010...perhaps this got fixed by Samsung later on

An old Nokia trick may work . Delete your MP3s .
Load only a few MP3s to phone and see if it works .

And then??? next time when my cars engine does not work i will follow your tip and try to remove all my seats and move back my drivers seat only to see if it works again...
Sorry but i dont get your point...i also have completely formatted internal and external sd several times for different reasons and the Problem still occurs. In addition this is not only for mp3s but also for recorded vids etc no matter were i store them

I've seen another thread were someone said it was called by the twitter client. They have updated the official twitter client recently, and I've not had the problem occur since. Although, it may be too soon to tell, it used to happen to me very regularly.

And just to followup, the problem hasn't gone away with the new version of twitter.
So, I'm not sure of what is the cause (or solution) to the issue.

Hi, where do you find the post also mentioned the same problem?
I am having the problem regularly too, after updating the Twitter client the same problem still happen yesterday, the phone run for around 2 days after last reboot.

Nope, i though you are talking the twitter update around 1 week ago. I just found that twitter have a new update today and never tried it if it fixed the problem. The change description do mention something similar, fixed a bug to skip music player while updating.. not sure if this is really the case.... need to test now...

I'm going to get rid of the twitter app then to see if it helps as updates don't seem to have done anything and I reformatted the sd card again and stuck everything back on there today and not only did it happen again, it's getting worse! Not only could I not play any music a minute ago, a load of my apps had vanished too! I assume ones that installed to SD by default rather than the phone storage.
If this sorts it out I'll be very happy. Twitter's crap anyway.

I've been having the same problem for a while now. I have just uninstalled Twitter and will see if that helps.
Basically all media stops working. Can't even record anything with the camcorder app. Nothing plays back. No youtube, no camcorder videos, no nothing. BUT arcmedia will open some videos sometime. HMMM weird, because other video player apps don't seem to be able to play them.
I'll give an update later today if it works. Videos normally stop working after only a few hours on my phone.

I've only come across this once and it was on a stock 16GB, one of the early ones, started about a week ago...upgraded to JVB seems to have solved it for now, time will tell.

16gb model, I've had 3 updates, and none have fixed the problem.

[Q][i9000] Custom Firmware?

I have the 16GB Vodafone UK Galaxy S. Today I was in a city trying to use satnav and it was rank rotten. So I thought I'd see if an upgrade would do it. I was using the very first Froyo that Vodafone came out with - I upgraded to that and hadn't upgraded since. I did have it rooted and 1 click lag fix was on it.
I upgraded to Gingerbread just there, sadly I had to do a factory reset, however it's all working.
I have realised that if I am going to put a custom firmware on it then now is just the right time to do it.
Is there one out there that's stable, and an improvement over the Gingerbread I'm using? Particularly I'd like it to fix the lag (if that still needs fixed) and even better would be fixing GPS/Satnav.

Pinpong blockbuster rom - ticks all your boxes. Get faster fix from market.
Your gps will never be 100% satisfactory in the city, in fact it will probably always be poor - no matter what custom rom you use.

Have you think about CM7? Great Rom, works well on my phone, and add many new things.

Well, I managed to get it on. Booting up is weird though, it looks for a long time as if the screen is broken, but eventually ti comes on to the Blockbuster lock screen and then everything is fine. It does seem faster - but I'll only really know when I get to one of those situations where I feel the phone is frustratingly slow.

Time allowing I'll give the other roms a shot, although this Blockbuster one does seem to be good enough for me.

Sadly my phone now reboots constantly. it seems to do it when the screen locks

Check you got the installation right for that rom, maybe you had to flash a jvp stock first or some similar omission?

Sorry to hear you're having issues. Try flashing to a totally stock JVQ first (with repartition) once you've backed up, then if you don't like that, try a custom ROM. I don't think many JVQ custom ROMs are worth trying if you want a taste of custom ROMs. Better to try CM7 or MIUI for something fast and different.
As a side note, the best tip I've seen for fixing the dreadful GPS we have with the i9000 is to buy a Nexus S or just ANY other phone! Yes, some radios appear better than others, but nobody can prove anything and it's almost all subjective feedback. A drop in the ocean of improvement needed for satisfactory function. If you must use it, a bluetooth GPS receiver and 3rd party navigation app seem the best way to deal with it.

I've now stepped away from Blockbuster. Even doing the a perfect install it crashed often and repeatedly. I did try upgrading to the very latest and that crashed several times in the past hour. Part of the problem was the rom starts with a lockscreen that has a messaging unlock on it, but it isn't set to an app that comes with the rom, so it reboots every time. Sadly that wasn't the only problem, as I was still getting loads of reboots.
So that's out of the way.
I'm now a lot more comfortable using Odin so I'll be able to try other options. I'll try the other two suggested in this thread first of all.
Next to test is CM7.

CM7 aborted. Instructions are incorrect, the file they say to download doesn't actually match the instructions so that's out. Plus it clearly states it's not suitable for day to day use... so I don't thnk the time in working out how to fix it is justified since it looks like it wouldn't be useful.
I'm going back to the original question in the thread, to say that I'm looking for something stable. I now think that a custom rom is not the way to go. However some modifications may well be.
Can anyone suggest some kind of lagfix/speedup that isn't a complete overhaul like CM7, Blockbuster etc, that is very stable and that'll make my phone faster?
Edit : Part of what I was doing to install Blockbuster was install Speedmod kernel. So I've gone and put that on, and used the clockwork mod to root it, and also convert to ext4. I think things are looking pretty fast so far. I'm not sure if there's a lagfix for this, but I'm quite comfortable just now footering around - unlike the complete rom I don't feel out of my depth. So I think I'll be ok for now.

[Q] Camcorder problem with Mintberry and Cyanogen roms

Hello everyone,
After lots of searching and no solution, I decided to post the problem here.
I have been using Cyanogen mods for the past couple of months and I am pretty happy with it. It's fast, reliable and generally stable.
The same I believe also for MIUI and derivatives such as Minberry, Galnet etc.
I haven't able to pinpoint the exact time this problem happened, but I believe it started after the 7.1 update.
Since then, HD video on ALL Cyanogen roms I have tried, is choppy and terrible.
I have tested Cyanogen roms, MIUI, MIUI US, Galnet MIUI and Minteberry. I have also tested in combination with Platipus kernel, default kernels and glitch kernel. I have also tested with various radios. I have tried several different apps for video recording.
Still I get the same, choppy, laggy and generally frustrating video recording functionality, when I use HD recording.
I don't know what else to try. I am currently running the latest Mintberry 1.11.18 and the latest glitch kernel and I am having the same problem.
The weird thing is that, my brother also has the i9000 with Cyanogen mod and he doesn't have this problem, camcorder on his phone works fine.
I have tried going back to stock roms and Darky's, but I have found the sluggishness and speed, more frustrating than the camcorder not working.
I have read that this is a common problem with Cyanogen mods, but I am not sure that this is the case. I mean, why is there a problem on some devices and on others there is no problem?
In any case, has anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?
If I am not able to solve this problem, I will eventually sell the phone and buy something else. I like MIUI and the Galaxy S in general, but not being able to record my little daughter while she grows up, beats the purpose of having it
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all im having to post here because i dont have permission to post in development thread.
I have been using cm9 for few days went from build 5 to 7 yesterday and i have an issue with both builds, after a while my sound just goes i cant hear phone calls youtube videos or games sounds. As far as i know all sound has gone even woth volumes turned right up. I have searched the forums and cant find anything on this issue, anybody else have it/know how to fix it. The only way i can get sound back is rebooting. Any helo much appreciated

was it working fine on Sammy's ROM?

yes i have never had an issue until using cm9. i think the microphone stops working too. i think it maybe when i try using the spirit fm app would this make sense? im not going to try the app now and see if it happens again. i thought that app should work?

Well, i think that's not a hardware issue to be worried about & don't mess with unknown and bugged up apps .
Why not try a re-flash (wipe cache & factory reset ) of BUILD8 ? If that doesn't also solve the issue then try Odin re-flash back to 2.2/2.3 and then again CM7.1 [with a Modem flash] to CM9 ?
