Mic issue, people can't hear me :/ - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a captivate from att. I one clicked odin'd to the leaked captivate froyo rom. And flagged the sentiron kernal I think its called. Ever since my mic hardly works and people say they can't hear me. Not too sure if it's the ROM our the kernal, any ideas?

its the kernel combined with the JI6 modem. flash a new modem i9000UGJK3 to replace the JI6 modem.....
if you read the sticky in the dev section about modems, you would see that you cannot combine i9000 kernel and captivate modem....

Porting a ported I9000 rom to the Vibrant?

Hey everyone, first off I understand that flashing a rom built for another device is asking for trouble or a soft-brick, in where odin would come into play however being that these I9000 roms which have been ported to the Captivate have already been modified, how difficult would it be to port a ported rom to the Vibrant. Is this even unheard of? Insight would be very much appreciated... Thanks!

In theory it should not be hard. You would need a re-oriented kernel for the vibrant though. As well as a modem that works with the vibrant. Basically I can take just about any i9000 rom unpack the zip, replace the kernel and modem, repack, flash. The re-oriented kernel fixes issues with the buttons not matching. If rhett are none for the vibrant then I would say no. there are no i9000 ports on vibrant? If there are you can likely steal the kernel from that rom zip drop it into the rom of your choosing.

Well the only recently ported rom out there soft reboots sporadically for an undetermined reason... I scour these Captivate fourms (the wife has a Captivate) and can't help but realize the development here has seen some huge strides in way of porting roms...
I am planning on trying something soon then to see if I can make progress... Just wanted to see if I could pick some brains...
Thanks again!

If you flash an i9000 ROM/Kernel untouched on the Captivate it will boot/work just fine, but the screen is rotated 90 degrees, the home/back button are incorrect, and bluetooth/sound are messed up.
I imagine it would be similar on a Vibrant.
Yeah I am wondering now how I could obtain a reoriented kernel for the Vibrant.. Kernel development for the Vibrant seems to be slow at this point....

You mean you wait until you get a soft brick before resorting to using Odin? Blasphemy!
Lol, you know what I mean!

It looks like the buttons are the same. Maybe the Captivate kernel would work. I'd give it a shot, but you never know what would happen.
Odin is such a nice luxury.

eugene373 already did this with xcaliburinhand's help https://github.com/barakinflorida/Vibrant-open
i9000 and captivate have 90 degree rotation issue, keymapping differences, and bluetooth issues
i9000 and vibrant have same orientation, but GPS and keymapping differences.
9 times out of 10, "porting" an i9000 ROM to another SGS device would just require replacing the zImage with a "reoriented" one as long as they have the same functionality.
Yep, I am working up the courage to try something...
Thanks for the input!

It's VERY easy. Download the modem you want and put it on the root of the SD card. Make sure the modem is a CWM flashable zip. Reboot into CWM, install, then reboot. All done. Depending on where you live, will affect which modem you should use. If you're in the US, JK4 is a VERY good one.

Can I install Voodoo on Stock Froyo KB1?

Is it possible to do? I noticed if I go to the Voodoo website (http://project-voodoo.org/download), the most recent edition for Froyo has a file name of: GT-i9000. Which means it is for the i9000 not the captivate, but is it safe to put on the captivate? I'm confused.
I'd like to use KB1, but the most recent Cognition 4.3 has some issue with sleep death that is scaring me away.
Thanks. XDA has helped me a lot by the way.
Why don't you go into the development section and use the pre compiled kernel that's already made for your phone?

Yes it is possible you just need to get the one meant for the i897 go to the Dec sec and search up I'm using the exist kernel which has voodoo included

[Q] SGS Vibrant I9000M upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.4!

Hi,
Is it possible to upgrade with the recently leaked European Gingerbread 2.3.4 image to the Bell's Vibrant I9000M?
I'm currently running Froyo 2.2, firmware UGKC1. Have downloaded the official 2.3.4 from samfirmware.com and already rooted and unlocked my phone.

It is... i would suggest going this route instead of through the one from samfirmware.
I use darky's ROM. I upgraded to 10.1 (it is 2.3.3), then recently upgraded via CWM to Dark Core 2.7.3 (which has the 2.3.4 GB firmware). Beware that the core is beta at this time, and so far in 2 days i haven't had any real issues on my phone.
www.darkyrom.com, then check the forums.
We are quite in Sync. Co-incidentally I upgraded to Darky's ROM(10.1) about an hour back. I'll give a try to the Beta now. Pls do share your experience with the beta overtime.
Thanx

So far so good... other than my battery. Although i do have a momax 2700mah battery, it only lasted 30ish hours before it died... including using superpower to manage night time usage. I should be getting more than that with this battery (and i have done the reconditioning with the battery since i got it).
Even with 10.1 i got a day and a half or so... but the half day doesn't work for me as i need it for a full day.
Now that i've done one round of recondition on my battery, i'm anxious to see how good the battery will last now.
10.1 works with the JVP kernel fine (at least some of the features for it). I had to upgrade gtalk to the video talk version myself though (although i'm sure it'll be included in the next darkyrom).
Let me know what you think of it...
Hey guys i am also on the I9000M through bell and would love to get the gingerbread on here but the last time i tried i couldnt connect to my 3g for wireless and i couldnt call out or recieve calls please tell me the guide you used because man that gingerbread was fast and smooth.
Right now heres what my phone status is
Model number GT I9000M
Firmware version 2.2
Baseband version I9000UGKC1
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #4
Build number FROYO UGKC1
Thanks in advance for any help
ps my phone is already rooted
you can get gingerbread, but you need to take the extra step of flashing the kc1 modem, or do the 850 band tweak on a euro modem

I could say after if you using Odin.
But before starting ask yourself what do you really want....
Just the 2.3.4 stock or a custom rom (like Darky's), rooted?, Aply a new theme?
