I have tnt lite running on my gtab and I was briefly able to use Smart Keyboard Pro but the option has since gone away. It shows up inthe keyboard list but it wont enable any alt keyboards.
Does anyone else have this problem? I really dislike the tnt western keyboard.

I have the same problem with TnTLite 2.02, which it will show on the IME list but can't able to enable it.
I same a similar posting on the TnTLite
To enable the keyboard u can't install u have to manually put them in the system/app folder set the permissions and restart. They will automatically be enabled, I tried a non compatable keyboard and got force closes but I was able to set it as an input method
I manually moved the Smart Keyboard Pro APKand the EN dictionary from /data/app to /system/app, changed permissions to 777 and rebooted. Then used Titanium to uninstall Tap n Tap Western.
Worked like a charm! I'm typing on SKP as my only keyboard right now. Works soooooo much better than TnT.

Smart keyboard pro is multitouch enabled. Its by far the best overall keyboard... features vs performance.

Sorry for a noobie question but how do you set permissions?
Hey this process worked for the wiimote for TnT lite. I moved the wiimote apk using root explorer to the system app and now I can use the wiimote.

Did you try Swype over your Keyboard?
I seem to recall that one of the issues of making swipe work was the tnt keyboard style.
Edit: Just found the apk and installed with lib... didn't work
Didn't wanna try the change on build.prop either... not sure gonna change the tnt 2.04 as it is running smooth atm.
Hopefully someone smarter than me will try to fix it.
SKP works great btw. Didn't uninstall yet the TnTKeyboard but I freezed it on TB and it works the same way.

Oh really? The only reason I was sticking with Zpad right now was because of the Wiimote. I think I am going to switch over to TNT lite again now. It just seems faster at the moment. I love having so many choices for this device.
Does voice input work for you on SmartKeyboard?
Hello,
I was successfull in installing Smart Keyboard as suggested earlier in a post but I can not see "voice input" button on my keyboard. But I can on my Samsung Captivate for example.

Looks pretty nice - you can have it turn on when you pair with certain BT devices (like your car) and you get a nice interface for use in a car.
It is supposed to be in the market now:
EDIT - not in the market yet - maybe because of our build info.
EDIT AGAIN - the fine print now says only Nexus1 and Moto Droid - so here it is for the rest of us:
Confirmed Working now - thanks to majkeli and TheMaginator below:
1: Install com.google.android.carhome-1.apk
2: Install this CarHome Launcher (first rename it to end with .apk instead of .zip)
All i get is install blocked. Im rooted even. Cant seem to find any 3rd party install settings on froyo?
Mine installed fine, but it's nowhere to be seen in the app launcher. I also noticed that on the installation complete screen, where you usually have the "Done" and "Open" buttons, the "Open" button was disabled and greyed out.
When I attempted a second install, it noted that the app was already there, and installed again, with the same results. Interesting.

Im not doing something right. Changed the launcher to .apk but it keeps the zip look. Is it supposed to change or something because I can't install. So I just installed better keyboard and I went to enable it and Im getting a message that says "This input method may be able to collect all the text you type, including personal data like passwords and credit card numbers. It comes from the application Better Keyboards. Use this input method?"
Should this be something I should be worried about?
No. That is the standard Android warning when installing any keyboard.
Anyone know if Swype is working on here yet?
Can't get alternate keyboard to enable
After I get an alternate keyboard installed, I can't get the checkbox to enable. I get the warning described above but then the keyboard doesn't enable and doesn't appear as a choice when you do the long press and select input method.
I have the same problem with an IME for pen reader. the main justifyer for me to purchase this tablet was to take notes at work but I can't get teh app to work... I am just waiting for 3.0 and hoping that it will evolve...

I was able to get SlideIt to work by installing it and then copying the apk file from /data/app and pasting it in /system/app. Then make sure to Mount R/W in the system folder and change permissions of the copied apk so that User is read/write and Group, Others is read only. Mount R/O. Now reboot. It should work now.
I am using TnT 2.2. There shouldn't be any need to enable it in the settings either. It will act like a system keyboard and will always be enabled. All you have to do is change input method by long tapping on a text box and selecting the newly installed keyboard.
I have tried this with a couple of other keyboards and it didn't work. Swype just says that it won't work with the screen size of the device.
I read this in another thread somewhere here. I can't take credit for this. Hope this helps.

From what I can tell, ES File Explorer can't see stuff in /data unless it is started AFTER the phone is rooted. Maybe the same goes for iFileManager.
So what I do is use z4root to get temporary root, kill ES File Explorer, then start ES File Explorer again. Then it can see /data.
Hope that this helps.

Did you copy the .apk into apps and install it? Try uninstalling and reinstalling it afterward, then selecting it from NookTools.
U have to use nookcolor tools
Nook Color via Xda App
I had a similar problem and found out that the keyboard apk file has to be in the system/apps folder but usually gets installed into data/apps.
If that's the problem, you can move it with adb or buy Root Explorer which makes it much easier.
Mobileread forum for the color nook (developer's corner) has a thread entitled
"How to get Gingerbread keyboard?"
I can't post the link directly because I'm new to this forum.
Thanks guys, I'll try that!

I have gotten all the custom keyboards I tried, working perfectly. Presently using SwiftKey. You just need to move the apk file to system/apps, set the permissions similar to other apks in the folder and then install that apk from there. After that you need to reboot, otherwise the keyboard won't show up on Nook Color Tools. After booting, open NC Tools and change the keyboard.

were you able to get the word suggestion to work with swiftkey? I installed and chose it as my keyboard in nookcolor tools, but the word suggestion doesn't work.
1. Change input method to any other keyboard.
2. In the /system/app folder, delete Swype.apk
3. In the /system/lib folder, delete libSwypeCore.so
4. In the /data/data folder, delete the com.swype.xxx folder
5. In the /data/dalvik-cache folder, delete the [email protected]@swype.... file.
6. REBOOT OR IT WON't INSTALL PROPERLY
7. Install and run the swype beta installer and follow the on-screen instructions. Installer link here http://db.tt/cD8HXlI
You also can rename the files to .xx.bak so you have a backup. This works 100% for me on Com Rom 2 after just installing today so I don't know how this will work on systems that have been used daily for a while.
I take no part if none of this works and permanently deletes swype from your phone. Your own fault.

I completely agree with you, its a complete improvement from the last version. The word suggestion window is gone and moved to a frame above the keyboard, word prediction is way more accurate, swyping is more accurate, etc.
I'm a big swype user, so thanks for the instructions...may give this a whirl.
Where can I find the swype beta installer?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App

The biggest change (other than tablet support) with Swype 3 isn't even the much improved suggestion window or the faster and more accurate swiping: it's that Swype now does predictive tapping too.
No more need to switch between Swype and the stock keyboard or SwiftKey if you aren't in a swiping mood. That's why their tagline for 3.0 is - and I'm not making this up, just watch their promo videos - "Stroke it AND poke it."
So what color is the new swype?
Edit: My sywpe expired so im being forced to update. Instructions worked perfectly thnx.
Thanks for the instructions. Worked perfectly. Now to get used to the slightly different interface...
Thanks for putting this little tutorial out there cuz after updating to UKB2.1 the swype keyboard stopped working
I admit I might not the most brainy person when it comes to this
Had a heck of a time figuring out how to remove those system files... finally resorted to Root Explorer (paid app) to remove these files (I am sure there was a way to do it without, but I refer you to the above comment)
For some reason the swype beta likes to be authenticated twice...
and after the second authentication process, I made sure to reboot before using the keyboard...
so far it is working and I like the new keyboard... (I had better since it would take me another whole afternoon to figure out how to install the old swype keyboard)
thanks again and keep up the good work

Glad you got it worked out, but wanted to let you know not to feel bad about going to root explorer. You will likely find that you have a lot of uses for it - there is a LOT that goes on round here that having root explorer makes life a lot easier to follow...
Enjoy!
I just updated to 2.1 and my swype crapped out on me too. I've tried everything to get it working, but nothing works.
I've been trying to delete the swype.apk and other files instructed here, but they won't delete. 'don't have permission," "read only" or "Cannot Delete." I'm using Root Explorer too, and trying to switch Mount r/o to r/w, and it won't change! Someone help me! I'm going through Swype withdrawls already!
What program is everyone using to locate and delete files?
BTW, I've switched keyboards before I try to delete, still no luck.
neotrixy,
i remember having similar difficulty
try changing [mount r/o] button before you select the app you want to delete,
couldn't find a another protected system app to delete to try this again, but I was able to switch the mount button back and forth by pressing the grey button at the top of the screen
hope this helps
ps- i did find that someone posted a swype fix in the UKB thread (not sure if it works)... it is way back in the thread... but i had already switched to beta before i found it
No, i think already mentioned, for whatever reason, the button won't change to r/w. It's stuck on r/o. I don't know what the problem is, I've never had a problem like this before.
Thanks for the help though!
Any other ideas?
I think i got it fixed...I downloaded a newer version of Root Explorer, and it let me change the r/w.
Thanks guys!
ok,
It sounds like your Root Explorer program has not been granted superuser permissions yet.
I can't remember when it asked for those permissions, check in your superuser icon to see if Root Explorer is listed in there and has a green circle next to it.
I have been looking in looking around in the Root Explorer menus but don't see anything
I hope it is as easy as clicking the allow button in superuser, if not my other thought would be to uninstall and reinstall Root Explorer to see if it will ask for superuser permissions when you open it up.
good luck
Yes
Thanks for your help. I was so frustrated with Verizon having made that (or so they thought) permanent. That is so stupid they want their people stuck with an old version. Appreciate all your help. God bless in Jesus' Name.
So I somewhat got Wiiremote support on the Vivid. I extracted the Bluetooth.apk from a Cyanogenmod rom.
1.) you need to have a odexed rom (I used rumraider b3)
2.) install the attached file by putting it in /System/app (i put it on my sd card and used root explorer)
3.) install Bluez IME and the HID addon (google it )
4.) follow the IME's instuctions and select Wiimote (HID) for the device.
known problems:
lights continue to blink, it's connected and won't turn off but the lights blink instead of show the 1
use at your own risk, this worked for me, no one else has tested it. Let me know how it works for you

i'm not sure you can try? i don't see why it wouldn't.
The HTC Sense bluetooth apk is the "roadblock" for pairing the remotes. swapping it out should solve problems for all the pairing problems.
You know, I never would have thought of trying this on my own. I've got a bluetooth device that won't sync properly with anything stock on the vivid but I had GB ROM that I think used the telstra bluetooth stack that worked perfectly. Since going to ICS it had stopped working again but after reading this post I decided to pull the Bluetooth.apk off that old ROM and it works perfectly again.
Thanks for the tip.
Is this possible on the new stock ATT ICS rom? How can I backup or get the original installer for bluetooth on this rom? Thank you.

You can use a file browsing app like Root Explorer.
The Bluetooth.apk will be in system/apps. Mount system to R/W
move the original file to your sdcard somewhere.
And take the one posted in op's post up above.
And paste and install it in system/apps.
You need root permissions to do this though. Good luck.

it has to be put in the system apps folder because that's where the phone looks for the bluetooth support. also it needs some elevated permissions and isn't made to comply with superuser.
you can make a backup just in case
Had it sync fine the first time I tried it, and then my dad called and my screen off profile was too low so my phone restarted lol. Now I can't get it to sync again! When I Activate Bluetooth with Bluez IME selected I get a "pairing request," and if I choose it from the notification menu it says to enter a PIN on the phone and device (which I can't because you can't enter a PIN on the wiimote, plus the IME isn't touch input anymore).
My steps:
Activate Bluetooth
Scan for devices - Nintendo RVL-CNT-01
Select Device Driver - Wiimote (HID)
Select IME - Bluez IME
Anddd the wiimote just times out. Any insight?
try uninstalling the apk that you installed via installer (not dropping in system/app) if you haven't already
then maybe try reinstalling bluez IME?
i wish i could be more help!
